Travel › Seven Killed In Imo Auto Crash by NaijaCover(op): 3:07am On Mar 17, 2025 |
Seven travellers were killed on Sunday after three vehicles collided at Ulakwo, along the Owerri-Aba Road.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the passenger buses were heading to Aba from Owerri when the collision took place.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer spokesperson for the Imo State Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the accident, saying their operatives were on the ground to control the flow of traffic.
Okoye said, “Yes, the DPO and his men are already on the ground to ensure order, that corpses are removed and the free flow of traffic. We are on top of the situation.”
It was gathered that following the rains, which started just a little after 5 pm in the state capital, road users scampered to beat the traffic associated with downpours.
An eyewitness who pleaded not to be named told our correspondent that the accident might have been a result of poor visibility during the rains and impatience on the part of the drivers.
He said though the road was wide, it had become slippery due to the rains, adding that the vehicles rammed into each other and left seven persons dead in a pool of their blood. Source: https://punchng.com/seven-killed-in-imo-auto-crash/

Crime › Man Killed In Abia Community After Banishment By Kinsmen by NaijaCover(op): 3:21pm On Mar 15, 2025 |
A commercial motorcyclist from Obuoro community in Ikwuano LGA of Abia State, Mr Okezie Onyema Onyendu has died from injuries he sustained after some unknown persons attacked him at Amawom village.
Okezie was attacked on March 7 and died at Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia on March 10, 2025, one month after he was allegedly banished by some members of his community because of land sharing formula.
During the attack, one of the ears of the victim was allegedly cut off, while his commercial motorcycle, mobile phone and the money he realized from his transport business on March 7 were also allegedly stolen by the unknown attackers.
Speaking to journalists on Friday at the Police Area Command in Umuahia where the murder case was reported, the widow to the late Okezie Onyema Onyendu, Mrs Ogechi Okezie alleged that some villagers of Obuoro conspired and banished his husband from the community because he refused to surrender his lands to a distant relative.
“They arrested my husband, banished him from Obuoro Ibere in February 2024, I took him to my own village in Itunta but they still came there and told us to leave that place.
“My husband sued them to a court and the High Court was supposed to sit on March 12 but my husband disappeared on March 7 only for his unconscious body to be discovered with an ear cut off,” she disclosed.
She further alleged that a Chief in Obuoro Ibere community and some other persons had threatened to deal with her late husband, adding that those who killed her husband were also threatening to eliminate her to cover up the case.
When contacted on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka confirmed that the case had been reported at the Police Area Command, Umuahia, explaining that investigations had commenced. Crime › Police Shoot 18-Year-Old Boy To Death In Edo by NaijaCover(op): 8:54am On Mar 15, 2025 |
An 18-Year-Old Boy, Identified As Chinedu Abimbor, has reportedly been shot dead by Police in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the State.
DAILY POST reports that the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, 12 March 2025, at a police checkpoint in the town.
The deceased’s younger brother was, however, said to have been arrested by the police.
The incident sparked protests by youths and the deceased’s family, who demanded justice for the slain teenager and called for the culprit to be brought to book.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz, refused to stop at a police checkpoint when flagged down by operatives.
He said the young man’s refusal to stop angered one of the operatives, who immediately fired at the vehicle, killing the victim in the process.
He also added that the victim’s brother, who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident, was immediately arrested by the police and taken into custody.
“This development prompted angry youths to take to the streets of Ekpoma on Thursday to demand justice for the slain 18-Year-Old,” he said.
The protesters, who also stopped at the palace of the traditional ruler of Ekpoma, HRH Anthony Ehizogie Abumere II, demanded the immediate release of the victim’s brother from custody.
A spokesman for the protesters, who identified himself as Lucky Adaba, said, “We went to the police station to inquire about what could have led to the killing, but the police tear-gassed us and started shooting.
“The police have formed the habit of harassing young men driving cars in Ekpoma.”
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident to ascertain what actually happened.
A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, said the incident involved a joint operation team of security forces and the occupants of an unregistered Mercedes-Benz, resulting in the death of Chinedu Abimbor. Yamu, who issued the statement to journalists on Friday, explained that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Betty Otimenyin, had directed the immediate withdrawal of the three patrol teams implicated in the incident from operations.
He said the Commissioner commiserated with the family and friends of the deceased and “called for calm from the general public, with the assurance that justice will be served in the end.” Source: https://dailypost.ng/2025/03/15/police-shoot-18-year-old-boy-to-death-in-edo/
