A 60-Year-Old Air conditioning and refrigerator repairer, simply identified as Najeem, has been reported dead while working at a residence in Ifo local government area of Ogun State.

Najeem, who was climbing a ladder, lost his balance, fell and smashed his head on the concrete floor.

Confirming the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday, the police spokesperson in the state, Omolola Odutola, said the A/C repairer, who came from Lagos, bled profusely and died immediately.

Odutola noted that the occupant of the house, Abraham Popoola, had reported the incident to the command at about 9 pm on Friday.

She said, “On December 13, 2024, around 9 pm, Abraham Popoola, a resident of Adams Ajakaya Street, Olambe Junction, Ogun State, reported an incident involving Najeem, a 60-year-old air conditioning and refrigerator technician from Ikorodu, Lagos State.

“Najeem was working at Popoola’s residence, which is located in a building that is about two stories tall.

“While attempting to refill the A/C gas, he climbed a ladder while holding a small gas cylinder.

“Unfortunately, he lost his balance and fell, hitting his head on the concrete floor, which resulted in bleeding and his immediate death”.

Odutola stated that on the information, operatives from the Ajuwon division visited the scene, took photographs and deposited the corpse at Life Channel mortuary.

Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a husband and wife in a midnight inferno at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, the Ungogo Local Government Area of the state.

The service named the victims as 67-year-old man, Muhammed Uba, and his wife, 52-year-old Fatima.

The Director of Kano State Fire Service, Hassan Muhammad, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Saminu Abdullahi, on Friday in Kano.

Muhammad explained that the incident occurred at midnight on Thursday, December 12.

He said, “We received a distress call at about 01:45 a.m. from one of our staff, Ahmad Abubakar and immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 01:51 am.”

Muhammad said it is a bungalow of about 50 by 25 feet used as a dwelling house, with two rooms that were engulfed by the fire.

He said that the victims were trapped by the smoke from the fire but were rescued unconscious with burns on some parts of their bodies.

He said that their corpses were handed over to the ward head of Rangaza in Ungogo Local Government Area, Muhammad Rayyanu.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation,’’ he added.

The spokesman advised the general public to comply with safety regulations to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspect named Alfred Bassey for alleged lack of care and negligence that led to the sudden death of his seven-year-old son.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday in Onitsha.

According to him, the arrest was in connection with an ongoing investigation of a reported case of the sudden death of a seven-year-old child at a construction site along Trans-Nkisi Layout in Onitsha.

He said police operatives attached to the 3-3 Divisional Headquarters on Friday by 9:30 am arrested the 40-year-old suspect who is a native of Abi in Cross River State.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the father of the victim forcibly took the minor from the mother and has been living with him in an uncompleted building at Trans-Nkisi Layout Onitsha.

“Furthermore, on December 11, 2024, the lifeless body of the child was found in a soakaway pit dug in the abandoned uncompleted building after the suspect left the child for an unknown destination.

“The body of the child was later recovered and taken to the hospital before he was confirmed dead by a doctor,” he said.

SP Ikenga stressed that Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a more detailed investigation.

Two students have lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident in Lokoja, Kogi State.

DAILY POST gathered that the accident, which occurred on Friday morning at about 10am, involved a female student of Federal University Lokoja, Miss Covenant Omolola Isaac, and another female student of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, Abu Taiwo Abimbola, from the Department of Science Laboratory and Technology Student.

Our correspondent gathered that a heavily loaded articulated vehicle heading for Abuja axis along Felele, in Lokoja, lost control and ran into a tricycle popularly called Keke, that was carrying passengers heading to town.

Other occupants of the tricycle were seriously injured.

An identification card of the deceased female student of Federal University Lokoja, Covenant Omolola Isaac, of Department of Geology, was recovered from the accident scene.

According to sources, the bodies of the two female students were deposited at Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, by some officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC.

When contacted, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Kogi State, Samuel Oyedeji said his office has not been furnished with the details of the incident.

He, however, promised to get back to DAILY POST. But he has not done so as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the President of the
National association of Science Laboratory and Technology Students, Kogi State Polytechnic chapter, Comrade Akor Caleb Kelvin, has issued a statement over the demise of the female student.

The statement read, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our cherished member, [Abu Taiwo Abimbola, 2023/HSLT/MCB/087], who tragically lost her life earlier today in a road accident along Felele Road, Lokoja. This devastating loss has left all of us in shock and deep sorrow.

“Abimbola, was more than just a member of our association; she was a beacon of hope and inspiration to everyone around her. Her kindness, dedication, and passion for education made her an exceptional part of our community. leaving behind a legacy of love and excellence.

“As we mourn this heartbreaking loss, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and loved ones. We pray for strength and comfort for them during this incredibly difficult time.

“In honor of her memory, the association will be organizing a tribute and memorial service to celebrate her remarkable life. Details of the event will be shared in due course, and we encourage everyone to join us in paying our final respects.

“Taiwo Abimbola will forever remain in our hearts. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Ondo State Police Command has disclosed that a middle-aged man killed himself and set his estranged wife ablaze in the state.

The Command, in a message on its X handle, recounted how the man invited his estranged wife to their home to collect her wardrobe but set her ablaze, killing himself.

The wife was left with serious burns.

“Mr A was married to Mrs A, but along the line, they had issues that made them stay apart.

“Mr A called Mrs A to come over and carry a wardrobe, when she got to the house, he started with threats of killing himself but later locked the door so that both of them would die together.

“Mr A with the aid of fuel and lighter sets himself and Mrs A ablaze. Mr A died on the spot while Mrs A had major burns, in less than 48 hours, Mrs A was referred to the 3rd Hospital. Stay Away from Toxic Partners,” the message read.

There was tension in the Elebele Community of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, as a 22-year-old man identified as Godwin allegedly stabbed his mother to death over allegations that she hindered his destiny and wealth.

According to residents of the community, Godwin returned to the area a few weeks ago after months of sojourn in Benin City, Edo State.

Some residents said that the suspect returned with strange behavior, claiming that a native doctor had cautioned him that his deceased mother was holding his destiny and wealth.

Confirming the incident, the Youth President of Elebele Community, Precious Okala, said that upon arriving at the scene, they found the bloody corpse of the deceased, while the youths of the community apprehended the killer son.

“We were told that since the boy came back from Benin City, Edo State, he had been behaving strangely. On the fateful day, he was reported to have had a struggle with his mother and stabbed her in the stomach with a knife.

“The boy was heard saying that a ‘Baba’ had told him that his mother was in possession of his destiny and wealth,” Okala said.

Meanwhile, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, stated that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed investigation.
