Manjiro thanks so much for that excel file
bigjay that NSE data is amazing thanks much
I'm going back and forth btw Aptistock and Metastock, like koksieboy stated, I like that expert feature that just reads the chart, but still trying to get a hang of it all.
I usually have to convert it to metastock format using its converter that comes with the application. I use excel format and convert it to Metastock EOD format, have u tried that pumping?

I have been to 4shared.com and traderji.com (Indian stock market forum) but can't find the Equis Metastock thingy. If you have downloaded it please send it to me at jazzyjay6789 at hotmial dot com. Thanks
hey bigjay its too big to email, tried it, its listed on 4shared, just checked again, its under "metastock", enter that in the search box.
I'm using version 10
let me know if it works, if not I might have to upload it to one of the sites.

If you can download and install 'Aptistock V1.12' It has more charts than you would 'ever' need. The help section also presents a general guide to interpreting the charts. It's 'wicked'
yup yup, plus big jay, if u can get Equis "Metastock", I find it even much better, its supposedly a shareware, but can be found on 4shared.com , file downloading service for free, found it thru the indian stock market forum
it not only gives you the charts, but also offers interpretation as well right there on the charts with their experts commentaries
its like the software for stock market tech analysis

I have installed Aptistock, however, I am having difficulty feeding data to it. Talk me through this please

Thanks
Thanks, pls let me have the data from aug, most kindly appreciated, my email is docwealth at gmail.com
In regards to Aptistock, it can get tricky, my data was in excel format so I had to convert it to ASCII (text).
Click on Tools, then data downloader, select import and then at the top click on browser then select your text file, and then click on import.
Let me know if that one works for you
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 7:57pm On Dec 28, 2007
For RSI I use Aptistock or Metastock to easily compute that way I can see the graph, it basically does the work for u. Aptistock is free, google it and download, very nice.
Does anyone have in excel or text format data for NIG-GERMAN, CI-Leasing, UNIC or any from 6mths, I've for NIG-GERMAN but its only llike 2 mths worth since 28th oct til now
My broker just got more NIG-GERMAN today at N24.99 (sigh) I was hoping he'd have gotten it yesterday, and CI-Leasing for N8.02
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 1:54pm On Dec 24, 2007
NIG-GERMAN at 24.99, I should be happy but I know its just vol pushing the price, it'll be back to N23 thursday. Its always on the high end on mondays
CRUSADER has broken the N6 mark!! its at N6.21, even me that picked up 3weeks ago at the high price of N5.01 has gained 18% after fees

@person searching for woman, try a diff hook, I'm female and that one wey u write sef even if u pay, she go still run, must be a joke.

realize that POs are usually oversubscribed, so if you are lucky you'll be able to get 300k worth with the rest of your money being refunded after months interest free
@Pennywise, u take a N1mil loan, put it in Zenith bank PO, well guess what, you'll prob get like N250k max worth of shares alloted, but you prob wont get refunded funds till say sep 2008
basically if you take a loan, your best and only bet is secondary market!

Yes oooo, I use UBAS, as of yesterday I asked my relationship officer for an update and all she said is "I'll let you know when its done". Am I not supposed to know if what proportion (if any) has been bought. I am just worried that I might end up not getting it and at the same time miss out on other good entry prices.
since the mandate was for 20k based on my experience what happens is that I wont be surprised if they might have purchased it all but the relationship officer is waiting for the broker to alert him/her. Did you put a price limit on your order? If you didnt, next time do so it'll help.

Not quite sure, but i imagine working hrs are very slow this time of yr. My rel officer emailed me today and i was surprised to see he was working sat b4 christmas. At this point, u prob wont get an update till monday or thursday since tuesday and wed are holidays.

@All

Do you know why it is taking my broker more than 5 trading days (and counting) to get 20K units of Bank PHB from the floor. Is it to be expected or are they being lax about it?

Is it better to cancel this mandate and substitute it with FCMB (or any other stock?)?

Replies please
given the dec season, not surprising at all. If its UBA which I believe u use, they prob already have purchased some gradually, but prob havent got all 20k units just yet in which case u wouldnt be able to cancel the whole thing.

@invisible, u'll be surprised just how many people read this board, dont be surprised if it moves up grin

hey naomi, I think the best thing for you to buy on the secondary market, for which you'll need a broker. I take it you are either in US or Canada, so this thread here would be beneficial
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-79353.0.html
I'm in the US and use UBA NRN's prog cause it also lets me have a bank acct as well as a stock broking acct

dont be so quick to get private placements or public offers as the latter tend to be oversubscribed, and they keep your money interest free for months even if they have to return it

http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/businessnews/2007/dec/21/business-21-12-2007-001.htm

Does this mean that UBA is going to fly beyond my reach? If CDB is actually buying into the bank,
UBA was going to do good without this news, its not anywhere near its fair value of about N62.5, so I wouldnt hold off much longer, its not dropping any lower than what it is now.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Banks, Stockbrokers, And Services For Nigerians Abroad by Naijadr: 7:35pm On Dec 20, 2007
@Rob-roy you can transfer money back but in order to do so, you have to also open a domiciliary acct in addition to a current/checkings and capital market acct. The minimum to open the dom acct is $1000, but all you would need to do is deposit that to open, but to keep it running all you need is $10

fee is 0.5% on withdrawal amount plus 5% VAT on that commission fee plus $25 telex fee
so withdrawing $1k cost about $30 or so.

I've not done it just yet but thats how my relationship officer explained it all. So far so good for me and my people with UBA NRN.

@DisGuy, I personally think NYC office is much slower, when I opened mine sent mine directly to Temitope Afeniforo, he is one of the US reps in Marina headoffice in Lag. DHL was expensive at $120 or so, but within 3 business days it was at his desk.
NYC can't open acct they've to send it to Lagos who opens it so I figure eliminate the middle man. Takes about 2-3weeks to have your capital market acct open and ready to go.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 5:42pm On Dec 20, 2007
ngegy I agree, I bought mine at N50, and if I had more capital now would get more. I calculated the fair value of UBA to be around N62.5, so this is a case of it being seriously undervalued. Given their new products and in a bull's market, it could very well get as high as N65-68 before settling down.

Diamond Bank appears to also be seriously undervalued, I've its fair value as calculated to be about N37, in which case thats double what it is right now.

if it had been used to build Natl stadium would that be better?
why do people always jump up and shout when any money is spent in the church
more space to bring in the masses is the way I see it
there are only so many people they can feed, why only feed when u can teach teh person how to fish. After all it is God that maketh rich and He addeth no sorrow to it, and God has given us the ability to have wealth

if you yourself raised that much and wanted to use it to build your mansion, does any other Nigerian citizen have a right to criticise you?

wonderful words my people! this is a wonderful thread, thank you everyone I know 2008 will be a blessing. Thanks to this thread, I can now do fundamental analysis and technical analysis. I know some secrets/trends on the market that I cant read in any newspaper! There is so much to be grateful for, keeping things in perspective, we thank God for life going into 2008, I pray that health will be yours because your health really is your wealth! Without that, then all this will be unnecessary, and the real healer is God. So seek Him 1st and watch everything else fall in place, even your portfolio will overflow.

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2008!

@ Naijadr, I agree NGC will go down a bit before firming up to 28, but remember that they don’t always release their results in time even as their yr end is December, their normally release full yr results around October the following year. Can you wait it out till then?
That is why I would have loved to play Diamond and UBA short time before getting back to NGC.(will sell now after doing a 150%) and will be back into NGC. Only thing that worries me is the stock is not very liquid, took me almost two weeks of harassing my broker before he got me around 50k units. Can I still get it easily?
Remember the market itself goes on a bulls run 1st quarter, so NGC might benefit from that. The stock is very illiquid and so my units are small, but I really do see it getting to its fair value before Oct, prob sooner. The whole vol issue is like a double edged sword, doesnt take much to push it up, but its also hard to offload without affecting the price.
Diamond in the next 6mths will def be a beauty to watch

UBA is such an innovative bank, they always have something new come up from their NRN accounts now to their UBA Prestige Bank that was announced yesterday should be able to raise much capital market and bring in more funds. Its come down N2 since I purchased mine but I'm excited about seeing where they'll be a yr from now

Both diamond and NGCare in my horizon also, buy I think Diamond will be better considering their expected Q3 & Q4. As for NGC, I am feeling the current price is very close to the target fair price of around 28 naira. Not too much space for profits if you ask me.
based on trend and market, NGC will prob fluctuate between 21-23 for rest of Dec, even with the fair value being N26-N28, it could very well get to N28-N30
If someone is able to get it now at N21, that would be a N7-N9 gain for every stock, even if someone gets 30,000 units only, thats still a N210,000-N270,000 gain, about 40%.
solid management, great comp, great fundamentals, easy to predict
got some at N16, getting some more now

Please what is the minimum required to open an account with UBA Stockbrokers?
since your location says US, if you are going to use UBA Stockbrokers use their NRN program for US, UK and Canada, that way u get the max benefits from it (bank act, option for home mortgage etc), thats what I do. Here's their website for more info
http://www.ubaplc.com/newubaplc/defaultNRN.asp
one of their US NRN relationship officer is Temitope Afeniforo, his email is temitope.afeniforo[at]ubagroup.com

@RoughCut thanks, the software download page wasnt going through for me but I like the whole idea of not having to manually enter my data. I have some pretty good TA software, good ol MetaStock that most use (I found link to download it from Indian stock exchange forum grin ), there's Aptistock which is free and great, I am using both now but manually entering data is tiring.
Fundamental analysis is great, it lets me know if comp is solid
TA tells me when to get in, and sometimes all things being equal when to come out
media like newspapers, intuition, nairaland, proshare, businessdayonline and other sources fills in the missing gaps and brings it all together

na wa all of una saying delaying it till 16, 18, I dont get it oh. I think the sooner you have your children with financial knowledge the better. 18 ke? even 17 sef is just about an adult jare, and many of us at that age were already living thousands of miles, oceans away from the parents. I think you even start the concept of putting away when the kid is even 5 where they learn to save a penny a day. Instead of just randomly dashing your kids money for stuff, make them earn it by doing chores in the house.

watched 20/20 news prog on ABC recently and this blk kid here in the US was already a millionaire by age 17. If u dont cultivate that mindset for them, I dont care how early u start investing for them, even if its worth $1mil by the time they are 21, they'll not be able to take it and make it work and grow for them!!

easimoni abeg would it be too much to ask you for your volume file you are using that your coworker gave you. I've been doing a lot of copying and paste from fsdh securities, but even for 1 company, its taking me forever to assemble my table <symbol>,<name>,<Date>,<Open>,<High>,<Low>,<Close>,<Volume>

another alternative is to start from today with cashcraft as they provide that everyday, wish the had it available in their database all in same file, where its just copying and pasting once, not in random bits.
I've a 2 wk info for NIG-GERMAN that I fed into couple TA softwares I found on web, had equation in excel initially but omo I study medicine no be engineering grin so once I found the software that does it ALL (RSI, MACD, Wilder's DMI etc), fashied equation.
