O ti o. For what now? After my commission? I don't receive ANY advice from them. I just issue buy and sell instructions.

I will only expect this from a managed portfolio account.
haha ok I was wondering, how is the online portal? Also do they let you use their address? cause I'm leaning more towards them than BGL because my cousin works there, and it'd be great to have someone on ground.
Actually the 10% is a 10% fees on dividends, have you noticed that, and why is that?

Hope this helps.
for the christians in the house keep tobechukwu in your prayers tonight and this week.
Hey aktopgun, I hope Tobechukwu is alright, but I'll lift Him up in prayer and praise.

@bigjay, wow@ relationship officer, they are usually really good, I think the bad service of the brokers put them in a bad spot, which is why i signed up for CSCS online acct at least for the small one there. I'm going with Vetiva I believe or BGL.
pumping777:
Thanks for this!!! I hope you can make it regular to be combined with the one from kpineo. Please o. grin
Hey pumping abeg does BGL charge you 10% off profits you make annually?

@tonyjon, thanks much for that info, really easy and very straight forward, I can send that one. Why dont they check their emails (thats not good sha, why bother putting email on website) and pls also who do you email that to?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 4:25pm On Jan 14, 2008
@tufe, it takes a few days like maybe 3 or so max for CSCS acct to be opened

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 4:02pm On Jan 14, 2008
@bigjay, I completely understand your anger, and that was why once I got enough money in hand to meet the minimum of the bigger companies now, I'm switching, more than likely signing up with either Vetiva, FSDH or BGL within the next week or so! UBA is good for those who just want to start of, not traders now that u and I have become, you only lose money. No point emailing the brokers, I did and all i got in response to a purchase mandate I sent to them was "Received", nothing else o, not even a complete 1 line! LOL at least the rep officer will give me better response, even ifg its to say I havent heard from the brokers grin I'm still signing my younger sister with them because her stuff will be long term and the N250k minimum is good, but I'm jumping ship with my larger portfolio.

@tonyjon they havent responded to my 2 emails just yet, I hear they don't respond to emails at that general email address huhthat its best to call them, I'm about to just go ahead and call them. I wanted to contact my cousin at BGL who's a manager there for years but I don't like that they take 10% off your profits, pumping or any using them abeg can u confirm that?

@Naijadr, @NBA

Can you give mem your email address? I am interested in the UBA NRN and I have several questions

Thx
sure no prob, its docwealth at gmail.com
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Banks, Stockbrokers, And Services For Nigerians Abroad by Naijadr: 8:25pm On Jan 13, 2008
hey NBA thanks so much! I'm going to open an account with them, is there an email address outside of the info at vetiva.com
I should be able to get my NRN relationship rep to draft a quick letter to them, I'm assuming they'll accept a fax or email from him.
I just really want same day execution, and wouldnt want to put all that money in UBA only to lose hundreds of thousands in profits because it'll take them 2-3 days at the very least to buy or sell sad
Thanks so much for your diligent contribution to this thread!!

Man Jiro:
I am also getting fed up with UBA Stockbrokers too. Imagine, I placed an order on the 13th of Dec. After sending numerous request for update, I was told on the 28th Dec that the mandate could not be carried out because the price i put (max price limit) was higher than the closing price. What? Max price means buy below the Max price stated. Who complains when you tell him to buy something for 7.4 max and you can get it for 6.7? I suspected something fishy happened though.

The NRN service is very good but what is the use and convenience if the Stockbrokers are this bad?
Sad but sounds like something that could happen. Its a big bank so I dont expect great service because of the low minimum. I just set up a CSCS online account, so at least I can watch and see what happens with that one, but I'm taking big chunk of money I'm putting into somewhere else so that I'm not worrying. I'm setting them up for my younger sister just so she can start in the NSE with a low minimum and also have access to their NRN features like bank acct, mortgage and all.
I sent a buy order since tuesday and I dont know if its been purchased and prob wont know till maybe monday, I dont like that, it was N120k but what if that was N1mil or more,
If you can meet minimum for the bigger companies then I'd suggest going with them. The NRN features are great, I needed a bank acct on ground that I could operate with ease from here (helps with relationship manager), plus interest rates for home mortgage is like 8-10% compared to the 17% seen with regular naija banks. Realize its a bank first of all b4 its a brokerage firm, so thats not their main priority, prob best for those who just place order for long run.

Naijadr,

What is the problem with UBA STOCKBROKER LTD?.

Peace.
I want same day execution and thats hard to get, its more like 2-3 days, and I'd like online access to also just set purchase requests and log on later to see that it was purchased. I'm going to be putting a large chunk of money in the NSE so wouldnt want to risk losing just because it was purchased wed when I made request monday morning. I'll still have what I've with UBA in regards to my smaller portfolio and I love the rest of their NRN services. Its good for those just starting off cause of its N250k minimum, matter of fact I'm starting my little sister with them.

@K2really most of all I've heard of Cashcraft hasnt been great, I figure since I can meet the minimum for some of the bigger ones that provide better overall services, I'll just go wit them. Strongly leaning towards Vetiva now
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 5:40pm On Jan 13, 2008
hey crazyT, I would actually pick 1 company and just put the whole 600K in it that way you can maximize volume and profits quicker. The list is great but I really like UNIC because of its great fundamentals and management, I think that it will prob drop below N4 again this week. CILeasing's potential for quick company growth is also good.
UBA is still at a good price too, and will rally in anticipation of march. Its at N51, and could get up to say N65 or so then, that would make you about N150k profit after fees.
FCMB would prob be good in anticipation for rally later in the year like around Sep or so.

@Naijadr
try FSDH,their minimum is 5mill,
talk to them and see whats up.

good online presence and same day execution of orders.
Thanks! I thought of them b4 but wasnt sure if they were N1mil or N5mil, but I'll talk to them and see if they'll be lenient.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 11:11pm On Jan 12, 2008
Hello people, abeg I am trying to get a 2nd broker with online presence( I already use UBA) ASAP, looking @ one with N1-2mil minimum ballpark, my options now are

BGL--I know min is N5mil but I've a close relative there who could prob negotiate N1-2mil for me
Vetiva--appears great, its N1mil, but I don't know why u need an existing customer reference or bank reference
ZSL-- but it appears some folks are having wahala with their online portal plus they are also N5mil

It appears Afrinvest doesnt have a great online portal right now, anyone have any other recommendations?

Looking for 1 of bigger companies, with same day execution and all that, one that is easy for me to open from the US.

Thanks and happy Trading!

hey NBA I'm thinking about opening a vetiva account like this month to use with my UBA one. Please do you have any contacts there, shey minimum is a N1mil right?
Do they let u use their address?
How easy was it to get it setup and send the money
Someone here mentioned something about needing a reference from an existing customer or your bank, why is that?
would I also be required to open up a diamond acct, I kinda didnt want to since i already have UBA,
Please let me know, thanks!
I was also considering BGL because one of the managers is a close relative, but not sure

@all
kudos to all, we are surely going places, you guys all seem like family to me
wanted to ask, does it make sense to enter UBA at this time at N51 huh huh
UBA's actual fair value price should be about N62, so N51 is still a steal, its a no brainer, dont get it, GET IT!

wow now thats a long time, I've had NRN since Sep, it takes about 2-3weeks to open, u can contact one of the US rep officers Temitope @ temitope.afeniforo (at) ubagroup.com to see if he can get u in touch with the European rep officers
he's extremely efficient with email.

anyway it's like father of all is not going to answer me. please my fellow nigerians. i have a portifolio that worth 10m, i used to believe in buy and keep but this year i want trade. the problem is i don't know which one to sell to buy what. i made a mistake last year selling my uba to buy transcorp and i don't wnat a similar experience. i need someone to talk to via e.mail. mine is owotoyin@hotmail.com .need yr assistance
its not that Fo2 is ignoring u intentionally so dont state it like that but u would make it much easier for him or anyone else if u just stated it here on the thread. Its important to realize that people who are offering advice are being kind to do so out of their own free will. If you go through the thread from the last few days, you'll see some great advice as to stocks to get into for both short and long term. If you state ok I have stock A BC D, this is why I think I should keep B and sell C, then someone will prob be able to tell you yes thats a good idea, or if that were me i would do this and that.

UBA Global Markets sent me this on Access

Access Bank Plc: H1 results to September 2007

Access Bank’s H1 financial performance shows a triple digit growth in topline and net profits… The results, for the (April – September ’07) period, revealed a 106.5% (YoY) growth in gross earnings to N23.4bn, while both profit before tax (PBT) and profit after tax (PAT) rose by 126.5% to N7bn and N4.76bn respectively. Consequently, the bank’s H1 earnings per share (adjusted) increased to N0.29 from N0.13.

… but, falls short of management estimates. In our analysis of the results, we observed that the bank’s current run rate suggests an average profit per quarter of c. N2.4bn, which falls short of the estimated N3.8bn. In its 2007 offer prospectus, the bank had estimated a PAT of N15.058bn for FY08 in the event of a 25% oversubscription of its public offer, which translates to an average profit per quarter of N3.8bn.

The result implies a decline in QoQ profit margins. Despite growing gross earnings by 11% to N12.3bn in Q2 (Q1: N11.1bn), net profits declined by 46.1% to N1.66bn (Q1: N3.08bn). As a result, post-tax profit margin dropped by 76 basis points from 27.9% in Q1 to 20.3% in Q2. The slower growth heightens our concern that projections made by management during its last public offering may no longer be tenable.

Access Bank recently announced a 341% subscription of its public offer while subsequent allotment increased shares outstanding to 16.1bn. Following regulatory approval, Access Bank made a supplementary allotment of 4.44bn shares in addition to the 4.72bn originally offered in the bank’s last public offer. This increased total shares outstanding to 16.142bn. Meanwhile, a further increase in shares outstanding is anticipated in view of the bank’s convertible loan agreements and convertible bond in issue which are expected to be converted in FY08 and FY09.

We anticipate stronger growth in subsequent quarters. Historically, most Nigerian Banks (including Access) report better operational performance in H2 Therefore, we expect Access’ H2 results to surpass its H1 performance. In addition, we believe its recent pan-African growth drive (subsidiaries in Sierra Leone and The Gambia) and aggressive retail banking strategy would enable it achieve full year gross earnings, PAT and EPS of N51bn, N12.12bn and N0.75 respectively.

In our valuation of Access Bank, we estimate a fair value of N25.20 in the medium term. Meanwhile, the stock currently trades at 29.9x its 2008 earnings and 2.3x its 2007 book values.

Sometimes I really want to buy and sell quickly, we all know the relationship officers are great but what happens when they get saturated with work. @ wanajo, thanks grin I don already send sell mandate to my broker, that N30 na madness, I no wan get greedy, sold one I bought in Oct, but kept the one I bought at N24.99. Its not much but my eye don already eye another company wey I wan use am for. I dont see NGC dropping to below N23 again sha, so its all good.

I think the market is just reacting, newbies into the NSE were throwing money in blindly to buy stocks (as per Xmas conversations with fam/friends), and the veterans, awon wanajo, pumping, Fof2 and all of una on here were grabbing your profits and running for cover!

Mr. Risky:
Guys let's discuss this. What is helping banks to improve their profitability? Is it their branch spread or their management of the nation's Foreign reserve which too is growing? This can help one too in our projections. N9.1bn and N8.8bn in just 3 months is not little profit for me.
UBA for one I think might be due to their innovative and creative ways, in Dec they just started the Prestige Bank for an elite level of Nigerians (with CC and all), in addition to their NRN sections for Nigerians in the diaspora which was quite successful in 2007 and their e-banking section is fast growing like the rest of the banking sector with even more ATM locations.
Then also look at their partnership with China Dev Bank and their buying of Afrinvest

The fact is the banking sector in Nigeria is playing catch up with the rest of the world, and are fast learning of mechanisms to increase their capital wealth

UBA is still looking beautiful, hmmmm to buy or TO BUY is the question! UBA or Oceanic, what gives oh!

To the newbies, a keyword is patience, I think many come on here and immediately want to even start gaining 100% in 1 mth, one thing that worked for me was to decipher this thread for almost 2 mths before I started investing on the secondary market.
Realize that because person A bought X company last mth and gained 100% from it, that doesnt mean that you will as well, its so easy to do follow follow, and keep wondering why its not working for you.
