For you to ask for a $ 2 Million dollar loan you have to be worth that atleast.
Nope, like here in the US there are business loans anywhere from $500k and up in the millions that I know folks have taken with as low as a $20,000 deposit. Not all banks offer and not everyone with $20k qualify but some do and get it.

Costain had new management plus Shoreline who bought out Costain UK and became majority owner. They went thru a massive overhaul hence the quick growth this yr.

I still haven’t gotten a satisfying answer to one question bugging my mind. Supposing your stock broker fails to meet the 1 bil naira capital base by next yr end, and your stocks are still lodged with him, what happens to the stocks since the broker will not be allowed to trade on them forthwith
asking same question,
but i think the best strategy for now is to stay with firms attached to banks(to be on a safe side),because they will surelly meet up with the required capital.
expect a lot of PP's and IPO's from most brokers in 2008,to be the rat race.
it is a pity no clear inform is coming out from NSE,concerning this recapitalization issue.
Hence the BGL PP grin wonder who all is buying that one, if big folks like BGL havent reached that one comfortable, folks with smaller brokers be careful. Hope its a smooth transition that doesnt affect the market too much

Easimoni, this is kindda confusing. I thought you guys had earlier put a sale recommendation on CILeasing?
which is why he said he wasnt able to get it, folks all tied to nab it, price went up, he wont get it at the current price. No longer a viable option in his opinion, hence the post.

@wanajo, I have enjoyed some quick profits from unity bankn so you can understand my belief, got in at 5.50, got bonus, sold at 8.08 three months later.

As for the chain in NBC, NBC owns a substancial stake in Beta glass, AG Leventis of course owns a majority of NBC shares and so the all attend the same meetings.
Thanks so much for the connection here!

got it at N16.7 previously

Lets put it this way throw in a couple of thousand pounds and wait till when it comes on stream in '09 and hopefully they will do a PO and knowing the psychology of the market you can expect an over-subscription and you can sell your private holding to the highest bidder just before they go on TS(if i'm that lucky to time the market correctly) hopefully i can afford to tie down about two thousand pounds till then.

Back in '05 they were going to do the PP for a minimum subscription of N1M then but not sure what happened

If they do a PO for a refinery (they have to because they need the money!) that's already in production and making money i expect that to come a lot more than the N100 per share for the PP they are doing now and we are talking a timeframe of less than 18 mths

I'm assuming my permutaions are correct
true true, if u have the money to tie down , and if u think the rewards (% of gain) outweighs the risk.
a better option would have been for all of us to have purchased Oando when it was in the N78-80 range for months cheesy even in Nov and turn around and sell it now for N110 in less than a mth

I have actually been thinking about this refinery business since i first heard the gist in '05 but come think of it i don't think it would be any worse than our 'national' refineries
True true, our obsolete national refineries cheesy
still have my hesitation though from an insider's perspective I guess, but like everything I'm sure folks will be ok for short term, but long term is another ball game.

BTW:Read that Orient refinery (hoping to be first refinery in naija) is doing a private placement of 50kobo ordinary shares at N100 per share and the minimum application is for 1,000 units(a lot cheaper than MTN grin grin grin grin) and UBA Global Markets are the finacial advisers. The refinery will be producing 55,000bpd and hoping to come on stream in early '09. At least since it's privately owned we would not have to put up with the horror stories we have had with our 'refineries

The offer closes end of December
Hmmm Orient's management is very questionable, not the MD but there are other factors (that I wouldnt be privileged to discuss on here) that would make me very hesitant to throw in money there.

For those interested in how moving averages can be used to determine buy or sell signals, read the investopedia article below. Focus on MACD. Then let's see if anyone can program these indicators into a spreadsheet based tool.

http://www.investopedia.com/university/indicator_oscillator/default.asp
Hey Oga Easimoni, I tried to do this for my Nigerian-German Chart and plotted the Buy and Sell points, and so far so good for me, got it pretty good. I'll try it with my other ones. I've attached some of my spreadsheets below

From the last 100days
BUY: approx N13 (early aug)
SELL: approx N17 (around aug 20)
BUY: approx N15 (around 1st week sep)
no sell signal yet

For Diamond Bank, I had entry price at around N17(around 1st week aug), with no sell signal

For CI Leasing
BUY: approx N4.8 around aug 12
SELL: approx N5.5 around aug 24
BUY: approx N5 around oct 19

kai did CUTIX own, I bought/sold at wrong times sad
BUY:1st few days aug around N10
SELL: N14 around aug 20
BUY: N12 around aug 27
SELL: N22 around sep 21
BUY: N8 around nov 15

Please which equations do you use to determine if it is a buy or sell?

Is there any visual observation that can suggest either?
Got it from this site
http://www.willowsolutions.com/tips/tips_2002_11_1.shtml
Calculating Buy and Sell Signals

We used Excel’s IF and AND functions to calculate Buy and Sell signals based on whether the instrument’s closing price crossed above or below its exponential moving average. Although it may appear complicated, the formula to calculate a buy signal is pretty straightforward. If yesterday’s closing price is less than its EMA and the current closing price is greater than its EMA then it would indicate the EMA crossed to the upside and the price action would generate a buy signal. If these conditions were met, then the word Buy appeared in the cell. If they were not met, then the cell remained blank. The buy signal formula is:

=IF(AND($F8<$I8,$F7>$I7),"Buy",""wink
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 4:37am On Dec 05, 2007
Hey Folks, I created some spreadsheets (used an example online), same as pumping just posted, with SMA and EMA for couple of stocks

Also created equations that tell me if its a Buy or Sell based on EMA

This one is the one for Diamond Bank

I used cashcraft for price info, and then make sure to reverse the columns (sort in ascending order)

appears accurate but who knows, feel free to criticize.
BusinessRe: Hot Stocks That Will Make You Rich In 2008 by Naijadr: 7:41am On Dec 04, 2007
folks dont overlook Costain and Nigerian-German, those are my top 2 shares in my portfolio.
With Costain, I'll be using the rights offer and buying more during PO, and I'll be selling some post TS
Nigerian-German is just an exceptional company, got in at N16, went up to N26 a week ago or so, now its N25, if ever it drops to N20 or even N21, I'll get more!

I've my bank stocks, but these 2 companies given their strong level entrepreneurial management, low corporate debt-equity ratio and their unique industries. Nig-German is following a high-tight flag pattern which is rare, so I'm expecting at least a 200% increase in the next couple mths, based on other stocks that have followed this pattern. Wish I got more than I did.
Shoreline Energy has really infused energy into Costain and I know in 2008 once they get their oil gas sector intact, it can only get better

FYI, just my own opinion said in faith, I'll let u know once it becomes my reality cheesy

Kai 25% a month shocked, omo u might just have to reduce that amt quite a bit and extend it to say 25% in 3 mths or 50% in 6-9mths. If we all knew what could get us an easy guaranteed at least 25% EVERY mth, we would be dumping our money there cheesy

http://www.proshareng.com/myproshare/portal_news.php?id=3292

i think something smells fishy with these extensions guys.
it is gradually becoming "culture" to have P.Os oversubscribed and should this not happen, people start extending dates so they can say that investors are really keen on their shares. Further delaying allocation and listings of the shares
(Fidelity recently did the same with their offer).
these institutions then turn around and say they can only absorb 125% and return monies back after tying up people's cash for months on end with no interest (except to the CBN of course)

this is a major moan from AKtopgun!! cheesy cheesy cheesy

postulate if u please
Haha its like competition on who can oversubscribe the most cheesy Actually I think most do it so they can increase demand for the stock so once cap is released, share price goes high.
How far with your wife? I trust she had a safe delivery right? Congrats o!

I have just sent out by courier my application form for joining UBA NRN. You must be pretty impressed with them. Who is your account manager or will it be different for me 'because I'm in the UK? How long did it take them to open your A/C. I am planning on doing the PHB PO through them.
Great. They open up the current/checkings acct 1st, and did that for me within 2 business days. You fund that, and at the same time they open your CSCS acct. Ubaremit has limit on how much to send to your acct the 1st time, its $1k, and you cant send 2nd one(they increase it to $2k then) till 1st one goes thru (takes 2-3business days)
It might take about 2-3 weeks for it all to be ready, hope Xmas period doesnt slow stuff down. They are pretty efficient with email, I sent an email today regarding mortgage info to my NRN rep at 5pm Nigerian time, and he replied immediately and fwded to mortgage unit who replied by 5:15pm Nigerian time! Here I was thinking i wouldnt hear back till Monday. I handle all transactions by email and usually exchange at least 1 email every day or other day with the rep.
My rep is Mr Temitope Afeniforo, he handles the US, for all of Europe its either Ms Nwadike or Ms Okiei. The NRN section is small but they do a good job, its a huge way of the bank raising capital so customer service is at its best.

Please is the price chart a representation on furture prices or a chart of the share's past prices, seems to me that its a chart of past prices,
prices from last couple mths till now, it benefits me for the purpose I use it for which is to figure out the pattern and notice the volume, if high then try to find out a reason, why are people buying or selling now? or what made them do that b4 in the past

All,

God bless all the people who have been providing excellent analysis and advice on this forum. Does anyone have any experience with the Bank PHB Diaspora account? I learnt that it is similar to the UBA NRN account which has the stock brokerage feature.
How is their service and is it comparable to the UBA NRN?

If you had a choice in both the UBA NRN and hte PHB Diaspora account, which would you select?

Thanks
I dont know about the PHB one, I know someone on here, I think user "NBA" mentioned a delay in opening their Diamond bank one. Really u cant go wrong with UBA, given its stellar reputation as one of the best banks in nigeria. In addition to brokerage services, NRN offers the Mortgage aspect, 11% total interest rate, 20% down payment, giving up to $350k loan.
I am glad I went that route.
I notice Bank PHB has too many clauses to their loan, person has to less than 50, nowhere near retirement, and its not even tied to the diaspora acct.

You're very correct my brother.Even here in Canada most Nigerians do not no anything about stock market in Nigeria.

Most of them don't even buy POs talkless of trading on the floor. I have tried on several occasions to encourage some of my friends to invest in NSE but they usually end up telling me that everything in NSE is fraud.

I know that very soon, they will CATCH THE VISION when the results start rolling in.

Peace.
Yup here in the STates, my friends must have thought my father owned the NSE the way I was going on about it all yr. Couple of friends joined once they saw I got in, and a couple more are sort of waiting around, hoping to hear me make some claim of great profit so they can join, which is funny because what worked in 07 isnt going to work in 09, the sooner u start, the better.

Sorry men, i've been around.Just reading the thread.

I watch the Monday to Wednesday trend and choose between Thursday/Friday.
Still place your bids for the price you initially set(not higher) for monday. If it drops, someone is selling and you'll get it.
hey FO2 I think the UBA price will be about N51-N52 Monday what do you think? That still appears to be a good entry range

@ yodiyokun, thanks much for posting that, someone posted it this morning and separated it into 3 books zipped file, but I also like having it all in 1 file.
FatherOF2:
Someone else noticed a relatively cheap price on both and moved in.Thursday's/Fridays are attack days.
Still watching UBA.Waiting for that closure date.
I placed an order, and being that I use UBA as my brokers, I am confident that they purchased it for me today! Cause media gave too much coverage about end of yr reports, wouldnt be a surprise that its starts going up Monday due to the demand.

Mr. Risky:
I MUST TELL YOU my brother that Nigeria market is very deep. The POs are being oversubscribed because information about the functions of the NSE is still very scanty to many, many people. What I mean is this, MANY NIGERIANS think you can only buy shares when there are POs for sale. I can tell you that no fewer than 20 of my colleagues are still complaining to me how they missed the First bank PO, and when I asked further I realized that many had thought that one can only buy first bank shares only when it is on 'SALE", i.e. PO. And there are many, many people in that category. The last one I spoke with was a lawyer, when I told her that you can buy and sell shares even within three months, she exclaimed. She had only just been buying don't even know that the certificates are important documents. She said she was told that shares are for long term, say 10 to 15 years! And after such a long time you can go to the bank and tell them "I have bought your shares, please check your register and they will give you the money back'. Omaseoooooooooooooooooo
I actually agree!! I know folks who bought offers from 10-15yrs ago that are only now going to find out about their certificates. Many people arent aware of the secondary market and most cant meet the minimums of the big brokers, so they see the POs as their only way of purchasing. Many Nigerians do not understand the market or anything other than depositing money in the bank, we have a long way to go. Plus like was indicated, provides opportunity to stash off laundered money as well.

Obajana Cement IPO will be survival of the fittest!! grin I need to contact my friend who works very closely with that section to see how far with timeline again, I wont get left behind tongue
