Car TalkRe: Kia Rio No Get Airbag???(with more pics) by NaijaEcash(m): 5:24pm On Apr 20, 2010
Indeed knowledge is power. I feel sad that Nigerians often get cheated because we have leaders that simply do not value human life as long as the life we are referring to is not that of their family member.

Due to high level of ignorance, Nigerians take a lot of risk and do things that are often consider as social suicide by other nationals. This thread is indeed an eye opener that we are being cheated and our lives are being risked. I won't blame Kia, rather I will blame our leaders who have failed at their responsibilities and the dubious businessmen who are exploiting the lousy system we have in place to make money at by sacrificing human lives.

Nobody will consider this thread a light joke if we are to have someone who was saved from death by airbag posting the shocking story here.

Even though it is the responsibility of our government to ensure that international best practices are followed by importers. I will not deceive myself, I will rather get myself well informed and take personal precaution so that I will not become part of the statistics.

Kudo's to the starter of this thread. Even if it is only 2 people that have gotten educated, that is 2 lives preserved.

Kudo's to Sienna for spending time to explain things in layman language.

Thumbs down tongue to SON for failing in their national duties even though they are feeding fat on taxpayers money cry

Enough of all these noise. We want RESULT period. The man on the street without university degree knows the difference between a Governor that was a THIEF during his tenure and one that impacted life. However the Nigerian elites wants us to believe that such can only be determined via some rigorous and endless legal interpretations. cry

PoliticsRe: Is It Illegal To Carry A Laptop? I Was Arrested For Carrying One by NaijaEcash(m): 5:27pm On Apr 08, 2010
A friend of mine had a similar experience. He was harassed for carrying his official laptop home. The policeman was asking for the receipt of a laptop that was over 5years old. The guy had to part with some cash before he was released. His presentation of the company ID did not help in anyway. Since it was getting late, he felt it is better to "settle" rather than go with them to the police station, where he may be detained overnight. cry

The police force seriously need to be informed that carrying a laptop does not make one a criminal or fraudster, afterall, SCAM can be committed with smartphones! Or are they also planning to start arresting those that use smartphones? shocked

This is totally unacceptable.
Now that a policeman (someones father, husband, brother) has been slaughtered, what does the IG have to say?

BusinessRe: Help! Debit Transaction Notification >> 155,000.00naira by NaijaEcash(m): 1:08pm On Mar 22, 2010
Here is my advice even though some may consider it an epistle from the stone age!
1. Tell your banker you don't want all your accounts tied up in an ATM card. Any account containing huge fund should be detached from ATM.
2. Only keep an amount of money you are willing to loose in the account that is attached to ATM. cheesy

In my own opinion,i will rightly put it dat self employment is d way out,now come 2 think of it u hear bank mass sack here & there,do u know that these family men & women who have a lot a responsibilites, some after being layed off by these bank can never ever be employed or under-employed.pls self employment will do it. I have changed my mind 4rm studing economics now to computer engr.what do u think about that,
shocked Hey buddy, you missed a vital point. Entrepreneurship is not the same thing as self-employment! You need to get your information right. Entrepreneurship is about acquiring assets that generate passive income! Real entrepreneurs can start with paid employment or self-employment. However, eventually, they build a system that generates income without them being tied down in one spot to monitor or run it!

So, brother, there is nothing wrong with you studying economics or computer engineering. However, you need to study FINANCIAL LITERACY! You need to learn how to Mind Your Own Business!

I strongly suggest that you start your FINANCIAL LITERACY course by grabbing Robert Kiyosaki's book, CASHFLOW QUADRANT
! That book is an eye opener, trust me. I wish you the very best! Cheers.
PoliticsRe: What If Yar Adua Was Not In The Ambulance We Saw by NaijaEcash(m): 4:42pm On Feb 25, 2010
Those desperadoes should be sued for kidnapping the President. I'm sure Yaradua is not aware of what is really happening. It is time to go to court and get a court order to compel Turai to show us the President irrespective of the President's state of health. Nigerians deserve to know, enough of the deceit.

I have the same fear too. Those desperadoes are capable of anything because they consider us gullible shocked

Why are these people making a laughing stock out of Nigerians. It is ridiculous that the President is being treated like someone that is kidnapped. How can they imagine that he will be "the commander in chief" via proxy. God forbid. It will never work.
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Will Handover To Jonathan - Special Adviser by NaijaEcash(m): 9:34pm On Feb 06, 2010
shocked The special adviser just refute this on NTA news. He claimed he never said so huh

I'm really surprise at the sudden turn around because I heard him earlier and what I understood from his statement was that the President was going to transmit the required letter. I guess the man is under pressure to swallow his earlier statement. God help Nigeria.

If you can't afford to get genuine software installed on those computers before they visit, then your best best is to install Ubuntu or any other Linux Operating system on them. As a corporate entity, you won't be spared for using Pirated Software. You were even fortunate that a surprise visit is not what you got.

True Federalism is the way out. If Nigeria divides, it will simply disintegrate until you see FAMILY members taking up arms against each other because of resource control.

For those assuming that there is unity among the various ethnic groups, you are dreaming. You need to visit the Niger Delta region to understand first hand the kind of hatred that exist among members of the same ethnic groups simply because of MONEY!

Our society has lost its core values. Brothers now take up arms against brothers in the same compound because of oil wells located on the land they inherited from their father. This is not hearsay, it is the ugly truth I say in one of the Niger Delta States.

So perish the dream of getting Nigeria problem solved by creating Northern Nigeria and Southern Nigeria. If we ever go that way, we will need to have a country for each able body youth that is capable of carrying an AK-47 gun.

I pray for true Federalism. I pray for good leaders who will indeed serve the society instead of demanding to be served. Good Leaders will make Nigeria a Great Nation!

entrepreneurs build empires and in a country like nigeria, their bestest of leuitenants will forever be second fiddles.good example,a guy starts a business in 1980 and though small it begins to make sense especially after lasisi a very trusted second in command joins the venture putting in toil, blood and sweat like he were the owner of the business, however he only has an ond from yabatech.

Bimpe, our entrepreneurs first daughter is born in 1983 when ground still never level and they live around mafoluku in oshodi.fast forward to 2000,some zenith bank chick sees the business potential while luring our oga for his account seeing his turnover is in the hundreds of millions but sitting pretty in afribank and so she tells some pwc alumni about creating a business plan for oga meanwhile they now live in gbagada estate and bimpe just finished from airforce and on her way to a university of london college after a levels.lasisi still very faithful.

the pwc guys package the company tight for a hefty fee ,oga ships his account to zenith where he gets more money to expand his business, but the restructuring introduces more educated, younger and technical savvy people but since lasisi cannot be sacked ,he is made purchasing manager while he has a lot of superiors in his reporting line to oga.

2009 bimpe is through with  uni and masters and without thinking twice her dad makes her the e d operations.thank God she is brilliant and has been well schooled because her first management meeting outlining her vision for the business silenced all wagging tongues.

lasisi felt left out and frustrated especially as he knew all that was to know about the business and could never work for a girl he attended her christening.not long after he announced his retirement which made our entrepreneur who by now is a billionaire both happy and sad.happy that bimpe would have easier passage, sad lasisi was part of his success story.however blood is always thicker than water and so lasisi was paid off and started a rival business at almost 55.

lasisi is not hungry but after a few deals on his own he came to the conclusion he had wasted the last 15 years of his life.if he had ventured out earlier maybe at least one of his children would have had the privilege of a private university education talkless of schooling abroad.

steve ballmers and michael eisners are produced by a system which rewards attainment of set goals with part ownership.nigeria is however not yet there and believe me it is a fairy tale existence equating being an agm with job security.

and if you still doubt me,just talk to all the ogas that were recently laid off in all the banks.
@kushe
Thanks for this practical example. Some people are still living in the fairyland.

Hiding ones head in the sand thinking that the truth will go away is simply stupid. You can't MIND OTHERS BUSINESS FOR EVER! Whether you like it or not, you need to learn to Mind Your Own Business. The best time to start is while you are still employed, so that if you loose one month salary in a bad investment or business startup, you will be able to recover. For those thinking that a career in a good company will guarantee their retirement years, they are in for a very big surprise. The earlier you start learning the risk road entrepreneurs take, the better for you.

If you are confuse on how to go about starting a business or the idea to work with, the following article will help you Ten Tips for creating business ideas. Believe it or not, you need to move out of the rat race and stop depending on JOB. You will truly become wealthy when the passive income you generate becomes more than adequate to cater for your living expenses.

One of the big disadvantage of JOB is that the day you stop working, you stop earning! Just think about it. It is better to see your JOB as an opportunity to learn and groom yourself so that eventually you start minding your own business instead of waiting to compete with the children of the entrepreneur that employed you. Kushe was right, blood is thicker than water. You will simply loose out. It is either you are fired or you become tired and retire by yourself. Either way, there is really nothing you can hand over to your own children. Think about it.

I'm passionate about entrepreneurship. It is the way to go!

@all
This thread is really getting interesting  grin

Like I mentioned earlier, one important thing you can do for yourself right away is to get INFORMED! If you think you KNOW when you are actually IGNORANT, LIFE will make you pay dearly for your ignorance.

I am gainfully employed. However, I run my own businesses online and offline. I study books, listen to mentors and I am busy building my businesses so that I can sell some in years to come and continue to earn passive income from those that do not need my physical attention.

One of the people that inspired me is an uneducated security contractor engaged by my company. One day, the guy approached me for loan and before I could ask him why he needed a loan at the beginning of a new month, he confided in me that he needed to expand his business. He went into details and shared with me how he started a small grocery shop and have now rented another one to accommodate his growing small business. Remember, he supplies security personnel to my company. We pay him, he pays them (only God knows how much)

I did a quick calculation and discovered that even though the guy calls me boss, he can actually pay my salary. He was as at the time we were discussing already a major distributor for INDOMIE, COCA COLA  and PEPSI. I was dumbfounded to say the least.

I didn't hide my surprise and I was humble enough to ask for his help in getting introduced to PEPSI.

It is all about getting the right KNOWLEDGE and growing! It doesn't happen overnight and don't be afraid of failure either. Cheers.
CareerRe: How Important Is It To Be On Your Own? by NaijaEcash(m): 1:58pm On Jan 08, 2010
You may be thinking that starting your own business will bring an end to all your financial woes. That is a gross misconception.

While I advise young people to start their own business, as early as they can, I do not subscribe to calling paid employment evil. Like someone already mentioned, it is a matter of time as your business expands, you will need to employ people. So if you are of the opinion that it is evil to work for others, then I wonder what you expect your staff to be thinking of you.

We need to understand certain issues:

1. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. You ask why? The answer is simple, not everyone is ready to pay the price!
Please note that an entrepreneur is different from a self-employed person. It takes much more effort and sacrifice to become a successful entrepreneur than it is to become self-employed. An entrepreneur undergoes training takes actions which an average person consider risky!

Even though anyone can decide to become self-employed, success does not come cheap either. Being self-employed is not without it own disadvantages.

2. Being self-employed is not the same thing as owning a business! For example, a self-employed motor mechanic whose workshop is heavily dependent on him been present to attend to customers does not own a business. He is just an employee. The difference between him an another mechanic working in a corporate organization is that he is his own boss. This have advantages and disadvantages.

However, an experienced mechanic who started a workshop, built a system for running the workshop and employed capable hands to run the system such that he is not physically needed for the workshop to run successfully owns a business!

3. Being on your own means you are saddled with not only the provision of services or products for your clients, but also the management and survival of the business entity. This is not as easy as it seems. It is not easy to be the one saddled with the responsibility of taking day-to-day critical business decisions. I've experienced the anxiety associated with such in a little dimension and I can honestly say that it is not an easy one. It is a lot easier earning a salary than being the one worrying about how the staff salary for next month will be paid on time!

My conclusion is that anyone interested in entrepreneurship should take time to understand what it is all about. Robert Kiyosaki did a good job at explaining these issues in his series of books. There are other books that will also help your financial intelligence if you are desirous of quitting the rat race, e.g. Who Move My Cheese, The Richest Man in Babylon, Think and Grow Rich etc.

If you need my humble opinion or personal help, check me at Nigerian Entrepreneur. Cheers.

BusinessRe: Games That Nigerian Banks Play To Rip Their Customers by NaijaEcash(m): 1:52pm On Jul 03, 2009
The banks are fraudulent, period!!!! They are milking customers of hard-earned money using all sort of gimmicks and excuses. A lot of people are not complaining because the amount involved seems small. But then it accumulates!

All this outrageous and illegal charges didn't start this year. They've been doing it for some years now. I remember confronting my banker about three years ago to protest the charge of #105 to my account. At the end of every month, the sum of #105 was been deducted from my account even though there were no activities. When I demanded to know what the charge was for, I was told that it is monthly ledger fee. To be that was absurd, but there was nothing I could do 'cos the few people I told about it were trying to laugh at me complaining about #105 per month.

Well, the situation has become worse now. My bank charges #7 per SMS. Of recent, I noticed that they sometime repeat the message sent 2ce. And guess what, I get charged for their 'mistake' For example, if I give out a cheque and a withdrawal is made, then I will receive an SMS that withdrawal has been made from the account. That is supposed to cost me #7, but instead of receiving the message once, they send it twice and charge me #14. Then at the end of the month, they send another SMS stating that #14 has been deducted as charges for the month. Guess what, that information has already generated another debit of #7 which will be deducted automatically at the end of the new month? So it is something like an endless loop of charges!
