Identify a NEED then look for a way to satisfy it in such a way that people will be willing to pay you. The idea is simple, but EXECUTION takes effort and patience. Cheers.

The cost of shipping and clearing goods has always been a major headache for Nigerians. Sometimes one gets discouraged because of the exorbitant charges. I really wish the Government will look into this. The only people that seems not to be affected are those who import junks into the country.

Driving traffic to a Nigerian website is a herculean task. Except you are ready to spend money on Google Adword.
Also, like A-town mentioned, Nigerians are secretive, so populating the directory will be another big issue.

Yes, some Nigerians make money legally on the internet (I started earning online in 2008). However, it is not a feat that can be achieved overnight by a newbie. That is the sincere truth. If you are new online, you will need as much effort as you need to invest in an offline business. Beware of scammers that promises you Magic Packages. They are only after your money. I highly recommend starting with free programs and learning the rudiments before investing a dime. Cheers.

I will love to re-emphasize some points that have been raised earlier.

Nobody, yes I mean nobody should decide for you what business idea you should venture into. You must follow your heart, because running a business is an adventure that is not for the chicken hearted. Entrepreneurs delight in recollecting how they overcome each hurdles on their way to success. 

Ok, here are the points I want to re-emphasize!

1. Discover what you are passionate about and then look for opportunity to monetize such! From your post, I can safely assume that you don't want to be a slave to a job. You wish to be free. Well, the truth is that, you can be a slave working for yourself! Sound ridiculous, but it is the truth.
If you build a business on something that you are passionate about, then WORK and PLAY will blend into one sweet activity. Doing any activity just for Money is not the way to go. It doesn't really matter how lucrative the business idea is. If you don't like it, don't go into it. If you do, you will eventually back-out when the challenges start coming up (please, note challenges are part of the everyday life experience of every small business owner, so you can neither WISH or PRAY it away  )

2. Discover a need that many people around are having, find out if people will be willing to pay for the solution. If they are willing to pay, then you have a business idea that you can further investigate.

This for sure is making the process so simple for a newbie to understand. There are several other issues that need to be looked into.

I am shocked about the reaction of some Nairalanders on this issue. The issue calling for attention is not whether Jonathan Elendu is guilty or not. The issue is that the RULE OF LAW is being set aside by those who are supposed to defend it.

If the man has committed a crime, he should be charged to a court of law and prosecuted. Not detained and denied his basic human rights.

I don't know Jonathan Elendu and I don't like talking about Nigerian politics, but keeping quiet about this will encourage the government to continue with such illegality. Maybe someone is even imagining arresting those Nairalanders who have been airing their opinion about political activities in Nigeria.

Nigerian constitution does not permit what the SSS is currently doing by holding Elendu in detention and not charging him to court.

For those who feels Elendu deserve the treatment, I wonder what your opinion will be if SSS were to come after you for posts made by you on Nairaland that is in CONFLICT with Government opinion! Remember Elendu is based in US, some of us nairalander live in Nigeria, so catching up with us won't be that difficult.

If you think you are covered by the nickname you're using, you are making a huge mistake. Anyone online can be tracked down and the veil of anonymity removed. It will only take time and resources. If you doubt it, do a little research online, you will be soon discover that you are not as safe as you thought online!

Two wrongs cannot make a right. If Elendu has done anything wrong, let him be charged to COURT! Period. He MUST be adjudged innocent until proven guilty by a COURT OF LAW!

I don't really see the relevance of the picture to the thread topic. Actually, they make the topic quite difficult to read.

It is hard making suggestion on issues like this without asking questions upon questions. It is very difficult to give a workable advice when you know nothing of the situation on ground and the potential of the would-be investor.

However, since the poster said he is a computer operator, I want to assume he is good in basic desktop publishing. therefore suggest he should conduct a little survey. It is most likely there will be people in the neighborhood who have computers at home and they need an evening tutor. Since he is a computer operator, he can easily share his knowledge for some token amount.

That way, he makes more money to boost up the N4,000 he currently has.

The only issue is: Does he like teaching people?

That is the MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION! The recession affecting America's economy is causing panic in other nations of the world who have their reserve majorly dominated in $ dollar.

This is confusing because other links on this thread goes to the right site. I sincerely suggest that the moderator should educate us what on what the matter is or send a message to the ADMIN to look into this.

If there is a restriction, it should be explained so that people won't assume that their is discrimination in NAIRALAND.

I will still check the blog anyway. At least I can type it directly into my browser.

You really got me wrong  My blog's backlink is not based on Nairaland. You can use Google Tools to verify this. I am a devouted blogger, and I make comments on other bloggers site almost on a daily bases. I also participate in several forums.

It is true that I insert my web address in my signature. That to the best of my knowledge is an acceptable practice among webmasters.

Some webmasters may restrict the permission. For example, a new forum member may be expected to contribute at least 50posts before he/she can use link in signature. It varies from forum to forum. Unfortunately, I don't know what the rule is here. Maybe the moderator of this section will enlighten us.

Please note that I do not know Seun personally, even though I admire him.

When I started my blog newly, I wanted an interview with him. My reason was very plain. I needed to build CREDIBILITY. I am not ashamed to say it the way it is. Every website starts with no rank and zero popularity. So, you need those that are already in existence to give you a recommendation to the search engines and the online community.

NAIRALAND has been online for years and as at then, my website was just about a MONTH old, so I needed all the help I could get. Well, the interview was not successful even though we started it on a good note. The problem was from my end anyway. I had problem with my hosting company, so I was forced to change web-hosting company. That resulted in me loosing my mails and that was it. If Seun is around, you can verify from him. I sure will still love to interview Seun, when the opportunity represent itself.

Well, the good news is, that I still got the result I needed (without the Interview with Nairaland King) because I did not put all my eggs in one basket. I had other strategies that worked out. Now at 6months the website is a Google PR3 site and is beginning to receive attention from the online community.

I am not benefiting anything from NAIRALAND that another member is deprived of. If you need help, simply ask. I am sure there are people here in the forum that will be willing to help you without attaching any string to it.

My position still remain the same. Nigerians need to COLLABORATE online, not engaging in RIVALRY and DESTRUCTIVE COMPETITION that puts us at a disadvantage against other nationals online. It doesn't really matter what anybody think otherwise. United we will stand, divided we will remain UNCELEBRATED ONLINE!

Nairaland Forum has been in existence for a while, and each of us in this thread has benefited from it. I can't fathom the reason why a poster will say that the FORUM is not for BUSINESS GUYS. Please educate me, who is it for?

If you have ever benefited from this place, the least you can do is to leave quietly, instead of trying to steal members from one forum to another.

Akin Alabi has done well in the way he handled the questions thrown at him. He has shown that he is a man of INTEGRITY and he is good at handling people. But note, he never solicited that members of this forum should leave en-mass and come over to his forum. STOLEN MEMBERS don't last!

For your information, you will benefit more if you belong to more than one FORUM. Each webmaster has a vision. The earlier you recognize that the better. Comparing two different website is often a futile exercise.

Never mind the challenge between John Chow and Shoe Money. Those are professional bloggers who have become celebrities. Both of them stand to benefit from the challenge in terms of FAME and MORE MONEY!

I won't be surprised if both of them are having secret meetings and strategizing on the best way to present the SHOW which many unsuspecting fans are regarding as a SHOW DOWN CHALLENGE. Take a que from American Wrestling. It is all pre-determined.

We Nigerians will begin to get better result online, when we learn to CO-OPERATE rather than COMPETE against ourselves. The Asian Webmasters have learned this simple secret and it is working for them big time. They use their population online to drive massive traffic to each others website. They rarely compete or speak against each others site. Rather, they collaborate and use their online population for things that are mutually benefiting. If you doubt me, try criticizing an Asian webmaster, you will receive enough attack that will last you for a long while.

Their fierce competition is to consumer's profit. I look forward to more competition driving cost of communication down and forcing quality service up.

The explanation is fair enough. No hood-winking or pretense. I really with CAC will get computerised. It is quite anonying to discover that unique names that are not being used by anybody still get rejected. They seem to reserve short names for bigger boys while they force poor guys to add un-necessary prefixes such as 'RESOURCES' to names.

I really don't see the reason why they can maintain a centralized database that is easily accessible online. They can sell scratch cards for access fee, no problem, but it will cut off the middle-men catel that are feeding fat on would-be Entrepreneurs.

The solution is available but the will-power is lacking.

The ideas proffered by kenflipper for example will do wonders. But who will implement it. Online criminals are thriving well in Nigeria because the masses are not educated on the ills of such crimes and also there is no database where records are archived for easy retrival.

That is not to say that we should keep our hands folded and watch helplessly. There are things we can do for now.

This thread is a good example. We can educate people by writing and informing them of the consequences of engaging in criminal activities ONLINE.

Too many young people think that they can commit a crime ANONYMOUSLY on the net and go FREE. In reality, it is not. Anyone can actually be located if the need for identication becomes CRITICAL enough to make the COST of such endeavor irrelevant. If you doubt, me make a post about the president of a developed nation threatening to carry out an assassination of his family, you will be surprised how they will trace you to your VILLAGE CYBER CAFE.

Even though we console ourselves with hiding behind proxy walls, every user of INTERNET leaves fingerprints as he/she surfs, and if the need arise, such fingerprints can be collated and used to trace the user.

Let's educate our people especially the TEENS, that way, they will better utilize their time and energy for something productive and legal and still make the MEGA MILLIONS they so desire without engaging in online CRIME!

This is possible, because I a living example. Cheers.

Two lessons from this:

1. Crime doesn't pay, no matter what the excuse is.
2. It is not all about money, spend time with your family, less you make the money and loose your children.

The relationship between father and daughter must have a lot of question marks for her to have the mind to do such evil!

Too many change is not good for branding. It creates a wrong impression to the consumers. That is the truth even though we may not like it. Some people still tell others they are using Econet line up till tomorrow, because that was what they bought! lol

Please don't confuse the NORTH with THIEVES from THE NORTH. These are two different set of people.

There are many sincere and industrious Nigerians born and bred in the North who are genuinely going about their legitimate businesses without benefiting from the looting of the few greedy men who has held Nigeria to ransom.

It will be injustice to label the innocent ones with the insatiable thieves. That will only show us as being insincere in our judgment.


By the way, has anyone bothered to ask, how the south-south oil sector were developed. Don't be surprised that the Northerners contributed their groundnut earnings to develop some of the refineries in the south. Let's deal with facts and figures, not sentiment.

Which way Nigeria? When can we start hearing the truth? Some claim Nuhu Ribadu did a good job, some claim he is a crook! Whether he is a crook or not, I cannot tell, but one thing I know is that through EFCC, he did some good to Nigeria no matter how small that may be.

But

Life without Christ = Crisis

So, it is I that need God, not the other way round. It is a personal choice but one with CONSEQUENCES!
