Amyfid12: Good morning lovely people. It's been a week i was denied visa at the US embassy in Abuja. To say i was devastated is an understatement. Sorry about the disappointing experience. Visa decision takes a holistic approach involving your Application and your interview exchange. Whilst, I have no idea what you filled on your DS form, I have to observe that your opening exchanges at the interview was awkward. Unfortunately, you met with an impatient VO who was unwilling to give you an extended chance (a lifeline). Your response on "Why The School" was anything but inspiring. The VO easily sealed your faith at that point. You need to shake off the disappointment and re-strategise, ensuring to leave no stone unturned. The situation is anything but hopeless. Best wishes in your future endeavour! Caveat: my opinion is personal |

Brown2Green: The VO has no business with whether your Course is STEM.
The VO's job is to approve or deny Visa based on documents presented. They won't see the bolded. Sometimes you need to read with a discerning mind on this forum. Don't take everything you read here at face value. Some people out of frustration, and at other times very tacitly, come here to make things look gloomy to others. I'll advice anybody reading this to always go for what they want. Refuse to let anybody decide your future for you by a mindless and carefree post. Put in the efforts, do your due diligence. Be thorough...very important! Most people are caught off guard due to half-baked preparations. Get a good school, have ALL the necessary support documents, and prepare to have a flowing conversation with the interviewing officer. It helps to have an interview draft as a useful signpost/guide preparatory to your interview. And when you've done your best, trust God to do the rest. |

Munix: What are you saying bro, are you saying I can't have an Uncle who is not from my father's tribe? If you don't have a response biko leave it
I just want to know if the VO will not be particular about it Somebody is trying to guide you and all you do is go defensive and lash out? Since you have your sponsorship aspect sorted, why bring it up here? Let me not talk about my deductions lest it looks like I'm jumping the gun. |

laboldkid: Very good, however you won't be asked all this questions - don't try to cram this, you won't sound natural. Smile, relax and have a conversation with the VO and you'll be just fine. And what if the VO choose to ask the very questions you'd want him to expunge, leaving out the ones you predicted. My advice to all applicants is to prepare thoroughly and extensively as much as they can; but pay good attention to the more probables. |

Schrodinger22: ...but more importantly, the school curriculum aligns with my career goal and i got interested in papers written by Professor Xudong HE and Professor Geoffrey smith about IOT (Internet of things) which is the branch of telecommunication i’m really interested in
VO: Why Telecommunication Engineering? Me: Telecommunication Engineering is a course i’ve always admired since my childhood, learning the principles of wireless communication is what have had great interest in and am more compelled now that ever with the introduction of IOT and it’s application to various industry which seem to be the new wave right now, FIU is the first school that offers IOT in undergraduate level . . . VO: What’s your plan after the program Me: I plan coming back home to my present job in an elevated position and use the skills learnt to start my IOT company here in Nigeria Your responses are fair enough. Keep in mind that questions begat questions, and be ready to explain the little you know about IoT. I was more attracted when I saw that terminology because it's an exciting area to me as well. |

AgreatMan: TWoods . . . On a very positive note TWoods has an opinion, n doesn't like to stay in the middle so as to "satisfy" all parties. At least, it shows he is no politician, who talks just to keep everyone happy. He is not nice with the truth, which is a rare quality.
Sounds like the kind of guy u need at the half-time team talk when your team is down by 3 goals. Popular opinions r not in your favor but it doesn't mean there isn't a lot of sense in your submissions. Well done, n post again as much as u like.
Perhaps, if we have people like u willing to "trash-talk" our youths to their senses, Nigeria would have been liberated. We are where we are today because all of us are Nice. Your positive notes are the positives I've taken from his posts and if that means "asslicking" to some people, I shake my head. I will always advice the wise to take the positives in his comments and apply to their peculiarities. They will turn out better refined. I am not in anyway egging @TWoods on in his harsh language/tone. |

Johnkay101: Go and sit down, it makes 100% sense to me. It's public forum and not a secret. Even V.O knows that and that's the reason some don't get the visa. 70% of those using Uncle as sponsor, those Uncles will never release the funds for studies. But if you have sure plans to fund your studies and not be out of studies, i will encourage those people and not backlash them. I am not arguing if it makes sense or not (I have no such time with you), I am calling your attention to the fact that this is a public forum and people should be mindful what they post here. Wisdom is very profitable if properly applied. |

Johnkay101: Using a legit bank statement to obtain visa even though the owner of the statement will not release the funds is not fraud if the fellow have legit means to pay the fees while studying. It is in times like this that silence is golden. Please, don't drag the issue further!. Can you just pore over what you wrote up there? Does it make any sense to you? Can you explain to me what MISREPRESENTATION implies in the light of what you just scribbled up there. This is a public forum, please, let's stop washing our dirty linens outside. |

To be frank, you will be denied a visa whether you go alone or not.

Mayorsmart005: This is strange. I suspect it's that V.O. on Window 6. Not sure she was in a good mood. Let the fellow re-fire please. Possessing humongous funding does not seal the visa approval. Candidates need to be on top of their game whilst still banking on the God-factor for success. However, I still recall a certain sworn-atheist here, who boasted about her approval and still got it. Therealjoe1: Please everyone my friend told me about This page helping each other to see we all succeed in going to the USA I decided to create an account to ask and get inquires on if any one can help me in any way or see a way out of this for me the school I initially applied to requested to have 5-7 million ..what I have is 3 million in my GTB ..so please if any one knows of a way I can get up to 5+ million or more just to service the account because I’m due by next month beginning..I don’t mind giving interest after printing out the bank statement please any help would be highly appreciated thanks There's more to scaling the interview hurdles. The bigger challenge is traveling to a "strange" land with paucity of funds and realizing that your problem has just begun. I will advice you sit back here and improve your profile so as to earn tuition waivers or alternatively securing sufficient funds before you dart out beyond the shores. What you've just asked for is one hell of a tall request. Save your self the endless wait for response and begin action on my suggestions. Peace Profound! |

Mayorsmart005: Visa Interview @Abuja Embassy today, May 21.
While the VOs in the other windows took their time to hear what people had to say, before either granting or denying them, the lady in window 6 hardly spent 2minutes before issuing blue paper to people...she was just dishing it out in less than 2 minutes. I prayed not to be interviewed by her. As usual, in less than two minutes, she handed the woman in my front a blue paper and called for the next which happened to be me . . . VO: Typed for a while and said "I have approved your visa."
To God alone be all the glory! I almost lost my breathe at the bolded. It's in you, go and conquer! Congratulations are in place for a deserved victory. It is also instructive to note here that once it is your time, even a sadistic VO cannot stop YOU because "the force is with YOU"... borrowing Shawarma's lexicon. |

AgreatMan: I believe location plays a part. Abuja is a lot more Behind than Lagos, d VOs will not scrutinize people as much as they would Lagos. They might believe those students r a gathering of "big boys n girls." For instance, Abuja police are a lot more respectful because they don't know who is who. My point is, a VO who lives in a relaxed n noiseless environment, Who is not stuck in traffic before getting home will be more lenient than what could be expected of Lagos. The Abuja embassy is in a serene environment with no cars flying here n there, that of Lagos is basically in d middle of a "market." Little things counts too. Everybody dey shine their eyes for Lagos, VOs inclusive.
If your argument is strong, location means nothing. What a comic relief! Baba you're spreading fallacy here. Success is when opportunity meets preparedness. Location doesn't matter once you fail to do your home work. VOs don't care who is who except you have a diplomatic fiat. |

Bricke: On the topic of sponsors, please can someone's elder sister be used as a sponsor without issues? Thank you. Beyond scaling thru visa hurdle, the bigger challenge is avoiding going out of status (being an illegal immigrant) due to insufficient funds and inability to pay up for your program. Think deeply on the future before you. To answer your question, anybody can be your sponsor, but once the identity is not your parent, you have some job to do convincing your interviewing officer. I have a question... are states going to work out a formula or was there a formula worked out by Labour which the States are expected to implement. I ask because during GEJ's era, States were allowed to go and implement as it suits them and the result was that some States paid quite less than the 18k benchmark.
Any agreed/worked out formula? |
