The Bauchi State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a car snatcher, Ahmed Mohammed, who made away with his employer’s Toyota Highlander in Maiduguri, Borno State. In a statement released today, February 27, 2024, by the command's spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, it was revealed that Ahmed Mohammed, 29 years old and a resident of Polo High-Court, Borno State, was apprehended at Bayan Gari Area of Bauchi state. He was found in possession of the stolen vehicle, a white Toyota Highlander with registration number ABC-65PK. Ahmed Mohammed had been employed as a driver by Damuli Investment Company Ltd., a company owned by his secondary school classmate in Maiduguri. His motive for stealing the vehicle was to sell it for a sum of two million Naira (N2,000,000). This money was intended to pay his house rent and reconcile with his estranged wife. According to SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, "On the 24th February 2024, the operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) attached to Bauchi State Police Command acted on Credible Intelligence at their disposal and arrested one Ahmed Mohammed 29yrs ‘M’ a resident of Polo High-Court, Borno State." The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, psc, has ordered further investigation into the matter.
