The immediate past governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and the immediate past governor of Cross River State, Senator Ben Ayade, have been ranked first, second and third respectively on the list of former governors who left high domestic debt profile for their successors.

Senator Okowa was the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, while Wike is currently serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to the data released by a data tech company, Statsense Consult Limited, popularly known as Statsense, Okowa left a domestic debt of N465.4 billion for his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori, while Wike left a domestic debt of N225.51 billion for his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Ayade left a domestic debt of N204.05 billion for his successor, Bassey Otu.

There was confusion on Friday in Kaduna when police operatives dispersed members of the Shiite Islamic sect, who were on procession to mark the International Qud’s day in the state capital.

The commotion which turned violent, made traders to close shops while people were seen running for safety, as gun shots were heard coming from the ever busy Kano Road axis.

An eye witness said the Police attempted to disperse members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN) known as Shiites, who were holding a procession and had gathered around Kano Road, Ahmadu Bello Way Kaduna.

“There were casualties on both sides, about 2 Shiites were feared killed. Some police operatives were also wounded. They were rushed to the hospital,” he said.

According to spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command , ASP MansIr Hassan, members of the IMN turned violent when the police approached them, leading to some arrests and the recovery of weapons.

Residents in the affected area were panicked and remained indoors while the confusion lasted.

Professor Dauda Nalado, a member of the IMN said the Quds day is celebrated annually during the month of Ramadan.

President Tinubu, during a Ramadan Iftar gathering with traditional rulers and religious leaders at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, March 28, delivered a poignant message to Nigerians, urging them to refrain from cursing the nation and instead focus on changing bad leaders through the democratic process.

"The love of the nation is in your hands. Pray for our country. Educate our children. The sermons we preach to the members of our churches and mosques are important," President Tinubu expressed passionately.

In a call to action, Tinubu emphasized the power of the vote, stating, "Do not condemn your own nation. If a leader is bad, he should be voted out in the next election." Drawing on Yoruba wisdom, he added, "As a Yoruba man and as our fathers will say, ‘no matter how slippery the bottom of your child is, you must leave the beads there.’"
