@Mwanamwiwa
You continue to amaze me,I know thats Luo but you are right,I cant beat that!!(i dont understand)Have you lived in Kenya?

Yes, until Akinyi started flogging my Nigerian brother Chinedu in public for trying to stop her ashawo ways. talk of hospitality: what kind of hospitality is that when respecting investors like Chinedu get humiliated like that and his hard earned property seized. Kenyan ladies have no respect for hard working and good Igbo men like Antony Chinedu. No self respecting igbo man would expose himself to such horror. Don't blame me for relocating back home to Enugu with self confident and righteous Igbo beauties. I regret my days in Nairobi.

In any case for all the superficial beauty and the miniature wildlife sanctuary of Nairobi, Kenya has no place like our own Obudu Cattle Ranch, complete with cable rides.

Wasemaje?

PoliticsRe: Ghana, The True Gaint Of Africa? by naliakar: 2:33pm On Jul 13, 2009
I had written a response but Richyblack thought otherwise. I will try again.

I am in agreement with other posters that the Ghana thing is really overblown. And that Obama's visit will not overnight change  her fortunes as to push it to the number one position in Africa. Give it to them though, they have achieved a level of political maturity that has witnessed peaceful transition of power in the last three elections. But why single out Ghana on this accord when we know that Botswana has a much longer history of genuine democratic culture?
My main contribution here has to do with the economies of African countries and here again Ghana misses out Look, Johannesburg stock exchange is by far the largest in Africa with a  market capitalization volume $280 billion, Second is the Moroccan exchange, with a capitalization $62 billion, third is the Nigerian stock exchange with $33 billion followed by the Nairobi stock exchange with a capitalization volume of $15 billion. Going by these indicators it is clear SA is unbeatable and together with Nigeria, Morocco and Kenya, play in a league way above Ghana. Of these, Nigeria outpaces SA as having the greatest investment potential, owing to her demographic size and local entrepreneurial ownership.
What of influence, political or otherwise, Nigeria has far much greater influence in her backyard and beyond than Ghana can ever hope to have. Nigeria can be listed among those proactive countries that single handedly intervened in bloodleting neighbouring countries to stop mayhem. Ask your question again, and the answer will be clear and certainly not Ghana. NOT BY THE STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION.

PoliticsRe: Ghana, The True Gaint Of Africa? by naliakar: 11:27am On Jul 13, 2009
While is is easy to come up with a name of a country as befitting the title giant of Africa, you may wish to consider not just size in terms of region and demography, but also its influence across the board. It does appear from the postings above that the notion of Africa is restricted to Sub-Saharan Africa. If the choice is be continent wide, then let us start with a few variables.

1. the most stable and active Stock Exchanges in Africa are in this order (1)South Africa (2) Kenya (3) Nigeria and (4) Egypt. Cote de Voire follows with others behind. On this a lone, Ghana appears nowhere as a giant. She holds the promise (very much hyped though) but is still a toddler. In terms of manufacturing base. South Africa still leads  followed by Egypt then Kenya. You will be surprised that aside from the oil industry, Both the Southern and east African nations have more vibrant manufacturing sectors than Nigeria in spite of hers size. has it ever bothered you that the furniture our Nollywood movies like flaunting in their movies including the juice are evidently south African.

In terms of self contained market that sways investment opportunities, Nigeria comes first and is well above most countries in Africa as having the most potentially lucrative investment opportunity. What it need s is a semblance of order. Populationwise there can be no gainsaying that Nigeria leads and Ghana is way behind. In terms of Political influence, Nigeria proved during the Liberian and Siera leonian crisis what a true big brother is all about. Even with our blemishes you cannot push all these under the carpet.
About Ghana. they deserve recognition for learning the ropes of democratic transition well, but the economy of Ghana is nothing to speak about. Political maturity, Yes, but such has been the case from the days Azikiwe and Nkrumah. talk of giant of Africa, leave Ghana out of it and the exuberance of Obama's fleeting visit is not going to make it so abe.

@naliakar You are obviously looking for attention if not you won't mention Fela the way you did

No I am not implying anything negative about Fela. Who would? He ramains a person of great accomplishments, musically and politically speaking. Nut I have traveled a lot around Africa and any talk of music tends to be dominated by Congolese vibes. many know Fela and Femi but would find Franco's or Koffi's music more palatable. This is what I have witnesses and it ain't baseless.

Congo music is monotonous, kinda like a country full of terry g's, lol

Just check any of their videos. there is variety, there is class and above all, their music has a contagion about it that pervades the entire continent of Africa and beyond. Not even Fela Kuti in his hey days or ras Kimono would command half the following of say the late Franco of Ok Jazz or Koffi Olomide. Disabuse your mind of the monotony argument.

Obama hits out at Kenya over corruption

Even before President Obama arrived for his visit to Ghana, Kenya was feeling the heat.

In a meeting with African leaders attending the G8 summit in Italy on Friday, Obama vilified Kenya as a country where bribery and corruption were the way of life and institutions had failed.

Deputy National Security Advisor Michael Froman was quoted by the ABC News online edition saying: "His cousin in Kenya can’t find a job without paying a bribe, and that’s not the fault of the G-8."

And he was not done with Kenya. He added that companies "can’t operate without paying, in some parts of Africa, a 25 per cent fee off the top in bribes".

ABC News quoted the aide saying: "Everyone knows that his father was from Kenya, that he still has relatives living in poverty, and that while he’s President of the US, he feels poverty in a very personal way because of his family situation."

Froman recounted that the President explained that when his father, Barack Obama Senior, went to the US, Kenya’s GDP was higher than Korea’s.

"Obviously, much has happened since then and he wanted to make it clear that the problems that Africans face weren’t just a product of colonialism or past history," Froman said.

At a Press conference after the meeting, Obama said: "The point I was making was that my father travelled to the United States a mere 50 years ago yet now I have family members who live in villages. They themselves are not going hungry, but they live in villages where hunger is real. This is something I understand in very personal terms. And if you talk to people on the ground in Africa, certainly in Kenya, they will say part of the issue is the institutions aren’t working for ordinary people. So, governance is a vital concern that has to be addressed."

Civil society

By bringing up the example of South Korea, Obama said, he was trying to make the point that "the South Korean government, working with the private sector and civil society, was able to create a set of institutions that provided transparency, accountability and efficiency that allowed for extraordinary economic progress. And that there was no reason why many African countries could not do the same."

The US leader said the partnership between governments and the private sector and civil society — whether it is over food security or other development ideas — requires local governments to take responsibility seriously.

Froman recalled Obama saying: "This isn’t a time to make excuses. And that it is important to join together in a clear-eyed way."

When Obama met the leaders of Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Nigeria, Libya and Ethiopia, he spoke about his personal connections to both Africa and poverty, and according to a top White House aide, "you could have heard a pin drop".

After describing a food security initiative that the President and other G-8 leaders have been working on, Obama talked about development and the importance of governance.

The US President, Froman said, pointed out that it was important to think about people on the ground who are focused, not about who is at fault in Africa, but on how to survive, succeed and provide for their families.

He emphasised the importance of transparency, openness, and efficiency.

It’s important, Obama told the African leaders, that development programmes are implemented so they "reach people who really need them, that assistance actually gets to the farmers and the farmers benefit from this".

Several people who were in the meeting said it was a very moving remark and thanked him for sharing his personal story with them. And I think it helped define the seriousness of the discussion and the importance of the subject."

What a great leader we have. See Yaradua's poise in the first picture. And confidence in the second picture. Nigeria shines  on the world stage. I always wonder why the music and the musical craft from a single country should be so good, attractive and way above the notch compared to the rest in Africa. And Congo is relatively poor compared to say Nigeria. Just a thought.
PoliticsRe: Yar’adua Leaves For G8 Summit On Wednesday by naliakar: 1:08am On Jul 10, 2009
I am ashamed at how unpatriotic we are. Our dear leader goes to Italy to represent our nation and all we can do is yelp ungratefully about "yarathis" and "yarathat". Why don't you all emigrate to Ghana if you hate Nigeria that much. Yaradua is president because he was elected period. Put up or shut up but accord him respect by standing right behind him when he confronts the outside world and especially the G8+5.

TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Stars Who Can Make It In Hollywood by naliakar: 12:51pm On Jul 06, 2009
Michelin should be told that if we are to go with color as the definition of African, then the entire region north of Sahel cannot qualify as African. Lots of Arabic lineage and culture. Zimbabwe, SA and Kenya have considerable white populations that have identificationally accepted those country's citizenship. Why shouldn't we call them Africans. You have to be bigoted to dismiss Theron as not African. Are Ethiopians of Amharic or Oromo or Somali descent Africans with clearly different tan and physical features. Stop being foolish, Africa is as multiracial and multicultural as they come.

Back to topic, Nollywood has done great and I can vouch for the popularity of these home videos in most African countries. Some of the actors and actresses from Nollywood are household names in many cities. But give it to the Nigerians, they are good at overexploiting things. Nollywod has lately gone for the overkill with jumbled plots, Plagiarized (from Hollywood) story lines, highschool drama type acting etc resulting in what you might call overexposure of the actors. In quantity they deserve our recognition, but in quality, Nollywood s sinking down fast. Here is the deal, Plan fewer productions of wieldly lengths and top notch acting. Omo, Ramsey, Tontoh and especially Rita and Dakore, etc are all capable of doing this anywhere in the world but with the right visionary grooming.

Mwanamwiwa,

Heko na hongera kwako. Una roho ya uzalendo kweli. lakini sisi wanaija twajua uchumi wetu ni kubwa zaidi kushinda ya Kenya. Ni mpango tu hatuna (kiswahili) otherwise you can get several Nairobi size cities in one state in Nigeria. What you have in thes picture would be comparable to Ikoyi only or Victoria island but not the entire megamoth city of Lagos. It is way above Nairobi.
