You wanna know why? He is still sulking after learning that our very own Yaradua beat him to it by issuing prompt condolence to the Jackson family on behalf of the great Federal republic of Nigeria. |
Watch several Nollywood movies and you will be appalled at the frequency (to monotonous levels)some phrases are deployed. Some of these are "for crying out loud" "you can say that again" "Aks" for the English word "Ask" Which other ones jar your ears? |
banal |
The yardstick for competence in a language is whether or not you can seduce a girl/boy in that language. Ask yourselves what language do Nigerian students use in their most intimate moments. If it is English and it is verifiable, then they rare competent in it. Forget about grammar, spelling etc, we have technology to do those. |
The last time I checked, English was not a Nigerian language. Fault them for speaking bad Hausa, Igbo or Ijaw. but certainly not for misrepresenting (in spelling or otherwise) the queen's language. |
Isn't SHOW ME HEAVEN, starring Kate, Iyke and Kalu the best of Chikere's movies. The storyline is superb, the acting excellent and action devoid of cliche coincidences that Nollywood movies survive on. |
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I will like to know why we always make noise about Nigerian-messed up leader being snubbed and Ghana is being this and that. What has Nigeria achieved in yearsssssssssssssssss? Nothing. It is sickening this whining and crying about Nigeria and yaradua are not invited to this, to that? WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE> NIGERIA STILL REMAINS A GREAT COUNTRY, HER SHORTCOMINGS NOTWITHSTANDING. QUIT WHINING!!!!!! |
Mwanamiwa's scanty grasp of the complexity of Ikomi's argument would be laughable if it was not for the seriousness accompanying her protestations. Unless she is performing a kind of patriotic mission against what she sees as an unfair attack on Kenyan women's choice of protest tool, she needs to be reminded that for eons now women the world over have fought against the formulation of their worth as sexual objects who exist at the pleasure and gaze of men. Such formulations have denigrated the intellectual capacity portion of their potential. That well educated women should think hard and arrive at an affirmation of what they have in solidarity fought against the world over is not worthy of the kind of angst that Mwanamiwa seems to feign.Notice how it quickly fizzled out before it even started. What indicators were noted for its success or otherwise, the world is still waiting. And what a name, Mwanamiwa simply means a child of sugarcane. Will the next protest summon the women's ability to allow partial sexual encounter bereft of the sweetness that usually accompanies it. Mwanamiwa should tell us. |
Sambili to explain Hey’s Sh1.7m pay By NATION Team Posted Wednesday, June 10 2009 at 22:30 The Kenya Government has two weeks to explain why national soccer coach Antoine Hey is earning a monthly salary of Sh1.7 million, approximately US $ 23.000 despite the team’s poor run in the on-going World Cup cum Africa Nations Cup qualifiers. Related Stories Hey delays trip over Sh5m salary Speaker Kenneth Marende directed that Sports Minister Prof Hellen Sambili makes a ministerial statement in Parliament on June 24 explaining whether it was the German government or the Kenya government which was footing the coach’s hefty salary. This was after Ababu Namwamba (Budalangi, ODM) sought a statement on why the coach was receiving such a huge salary when the team’s performance was poor. Harambee Stars is currently at the bottom of Group B with no point after losing its first two matches, 1-2 to Tunisia and 0-3 to Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Sunday. Mr Namwamba demanded that the minister explains how the government plans to meet the coach’s huge wage bill in the event that he was not being paid by the German government as previously thought. He criticised the team’s performance saying it did not justify the coach’s huge pay. He also asked the minister to justify why the taxpayer should continue shouldering the tactician’s huge pay when we could easily employ a qualified local coach at a much lower salary. Responding, deputy PM Musalia Mudavadi promised to have the statement tabled in parliament on June 24. |
Repeat after me,"Omar Bongo cannot die" He was designed to be a leader for eternity. How dare you say he is dead? |
Amadu says Nigeria did not play up to par and concedes they were lucky to beat the Kenyans who had superior physical fitness, (read on) http://www.234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Sport/Football/5422974-147/Amodu_admits_Eagles_were_not_convincing.csp |
Posted by: chisco My opinion is that the team should be selected from the Eagles that featured in the Ireland and France friendlies. What do you think? You don't get good result by assuming games can be replicated uniformly from one to another. The coach should size the Kenyans, know their selling point and cash in. I hear they have one deadly striker who plays in Europe-Oliech or something. As for whom to play. No stunts coach!!! |
@ C2H5OH Sorry to burst your bubble. It's not going to happen. Don't be so sure. The same was said about Obama. You saw what happened. |
Why are we even accommodating the thought of Kenya playing competitive soccer against Nigeria. Those guys know only marathon. No skill in soccer. Nigeria 5-Kenya 0-1 |
So Obama was not enough. See link: http://www.diasporamessenger.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=122&Itemid=203 A Kenyan running for California Governor - 2010. By Diasporamessenger 05/23/09 In following the footsteps of President Obama, a Kenyan and a resident of California has declared his candidature for the Governor of California. Here below is his statement and appeal for help and votes. California Governor - 2010. Joe and Alice Symmon My name is Dr. Joe Symmon and I am running for Governor of California. I am a moral voice of change, hope and destined for greatness. What is critical to human progress is vision — seeing a future that is achievable and worth attaining.“Without a vision and sound judgment, people perish”. California’s political change is long overdue. And this is our moment to bring that change, to restore hope and reclaim our Golden state for ourselves and our emerging generations. When I am Governor, I will deal with issues affecting us today with high integrity, wisdom and leading boldly by example. Our economy will thrive, our schools and teachers will excel, and our universal health care and environmental systems will work. Static and status quo style of leadership in Sacramento will go. It is time to break the cycle of failed policies and politics. I am a visionary endowed with freshness and new ideologies. The issues that unite us are far greater than issues that divide us. As Governor I will pursue and implement these issues: 1. Integrity – the Governor will lead by example. The way I carry myself in private will be how I will treat others. Asserting the Golden rule at all decision making process. The immediate result of following the Golden Rule is that I will be treating other people very, very well. "And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them." I have personally practiced this rule since my debut into politics in 1979 and during my tenure as a Graduate student president in 1984. 2. Moral, virtue and family values – I am married to one wife for 33 years. We have raised three biological kids and are now raising almost 200 orphans with a full-time staff of over thirty. We provide them with a home, food, education, clothing, health care. By so doing, we have ignited an unstoppable hope and destiny. Giving them an opportunity for better and responsible citizenry. A Governor ought to rule his house well before he can aspire for public office, and this I have done. Solomon said “when the righteous rule, people rejoice and when the wicked are in authority, people mourn” This is our time to turn the page. 3. Economy – Ending economic instability requires a true break with the status quo. It will not happen in the course of “business as usual.” My plan is to unite the leaders in Sacramento so that we can have a simple majority rule to pass the budget. Partisanship politics will be a thing of the past. I have no intention to raise taxes. My giving back plan will be rolled out in my first 100 days. California will attract businesses that migrated in the past to return, and existing businesses shall perform better. This will boost the creation of new jobs. 4. Education – Our high institutions of learning should be well equipped to carry out research that will advance modern technological and social changes in every sector of learning. We’re experiencing cutbacks in almost every department and eventually affecting teaching profession and trickling down to students’ performance. As Governor, I will employ a team of technocrats and professionals to change the system. Teachers should be paid well and every effort made to motivate and retain them on the job. College students should have sufficient grants to keep them focused more in their studies rather than have them work two or three jobs. Many have snoozed and died on the wheel working multiple shifts. 5. Environment - We should harness the sun and the wind to produce sufficient energy to run our vehicles and industries. And we have plenty of both here in our golden state. We should reserve and recycle all that water that runs to the Pacific from rainfall and our snow-capped mountains and utilize it to run our technology. Southern California fire season can be a thing of the past if we can use this water to plant trees that will in turn bring rainfalls to change our dry landscape into forests and run arsonists out of business. 6. Health – every citizen should have access to affordable and reliable health care. I will guarantee affordable, accessible health care coverage for all Californians. More so for our senior citizens should enjoy their golden years in our golden state peacefully. I wholeheartedly support and would adopt Obama health-care plan. 7. Immigration - to solve the challenges we are facing in California on immigration issues, I will pursue genuine solutions daily. I will be committed to ensure that immigrants are accorded the same respect and legal status like every one who have come here to seek an opportunity to better their lives. And quoting President Obama “they have come here for the same reason that families have always come here--for the hope that in America, they could build a better life for themselves and their families.” Legal residency for all immigrants shall be my priority. My sincere Appeal: Your Prayers first, financial support, Your Vote, mobilizing others to vote for the moral voice of Change, a Voice of Hope - Our Destiny to Greatness. A win for Dr. Symmon is a win for us all. Thank you for your support. Dr. Joe Symmon, P.O. Box 390, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739. www.drjoesymmon.com http://www.diasporamessenger.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=32 |
It has to be Tontoh Dike (what a lady),and Rita |
Could it be a case of "sour grapes" of sorts. Even if Van is a bad actor and there may be some truth in that, it is ironic that the comment should come from a fellow actor. What happened to fraternal or sororial bond in Nollywood? |
@tpiah The U.S.Government mentioned four qualities that informed their choice of country, namely, democratization, development, good governance and social inclusion. These are qualities Nigeria lacks, resulting in a plethora of domestic problems, which have made her unattractive and unsafe for citizens, manufacturers, and other business investors. Denials or re branding gimmicks will not make Nigeria reclaim her “giant” status. Only marked imprimprovementssafety and security, in crime reduction, and in the delivery of political goods, schools, hospitals, roads, electricity, etc, can achieve this objective. You are right. My emphasis is on several points: Nigeria is not as bad as some posts suggest. How else do you explain CNN's focus on the large swathe of returnees who, face with the economic down turn in the west see hope in Nigeria. Two, Obama's reasons fo tfor choice of itinerary and NigeNigeria'sgress (albeit a slow and painful one) should not be seen as mutually conflicting. the only catch, and a catch it is, is the denial of any request from president "go slow" that he honors Nigeria with a visit. Listen folks Nigeria remains the giant that it is with or without patronage. How about that? |
Why are we so critical of our country. Yes there are faults that can be corrected, but god! Nigeria is still Africa's second largest and most successful economy. Politically, Nigeria has contributed to peace maintenance that any other country I know of in Africa. Obama is not going to Ghana to spit Nigeria. What Nigeria has achieved in spite of her short comings are independent of Obama. I recently read somewhere that Nigeria remains the number one destination of foreign investors. Let us be proud of this and stop whining about another president's itinerary. |
He is unfair to his Kenya (ancestral association) and Nigeria (Her role in stabilizing Siera Leone and Liberia), the two leading Anglo-phone countries in Africa. The outrage in both countries is warranted. For some time Ghana has irreparably assumed the status of IMF and World banks experimental specimen with very little to show for it economically. Take a trip to Tamale and Paga and you will realize that Ghana exists as two countries: the effectively marginalized north and the prosperous south, hardly the exemplar of good political economy. |
Have you noticed that of all the West African Countries from Guinea to Nigeria, it is only Nigeria (perhaps Togo and Siera leone) which is controlled by the Hausa-Fulani hegemony. Less so in Ghana, Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast, Liberia and Guinea. Why is it so considering the head start that proximity to the Atlantic and the institutionalization of modernity by colonialism bequeathed the southern shores. Is it because Nnamdi Azikiwe and Ironsi gave Nigeria a false start? |
CHINUA ACHEBE WOLE SOYINKA MURTALA MOHAMED KEN SAROWIWA OMOTOLA JELADE EKEINDE ADEBAYO |
So we have many Nigerians in Newzeland. Hail Naija |
As things stands now in Africa, Ghana is a shining example and a beacon of hope to black people all over the world. The whole continent is afflicted with decrepit infrastructure, corruption, ethnic rivalry, and the likes but the most dangerous of them all is electoral fraud. From Pres Obama's native Kenya to Zimbabwe, Nigeria to south Africa, none has been spared the scourge of electoral manipulations. But Ghana was chosen solely because of the maturity of its democracy as signposted by its superior electoral processes. It is an indictment of other African countries were elections are a do or die affair That is the real reason why Obama is visiting Ghana Did you also know that Ghana, YES Ghana has very beautiful and intelligent women? There are a legion reasons why Lagos cannot be the number one preferred destination to anybody let alone Obama. |
