Nairaland GeneralRe: Very 1st Time You Fired A Gun by nanaboi(op): 4:39pm On Aug 13, 2007
Well like I said, it's some sort of research I'm doing

Truth is I'm trying 2 write a story about a young guy caught in the campus violence web. And I have what u might call a writer's block - run out of inspiration/ the right descriptions.

So anything u say here about a gun will help, especially if u're a graduate/undergraduate of a Nigerian university, or u've been in any state similar 2 the one I've mentioned.

your target need not even have been human.
Digiman:
Any way the first couple of things that strike you are the recoil and how loud it is shocked, and oh yeah its not easy to get your taget without aiming properly, its worlds apart from the stuff you see in movies.
Thank u a lot 4 this response. It's brief but will help a zillion
PoliticsMore Kidnaps In The Niger Delta by nanaboi(op): 11:53am On Aug 10, 2007
Kidnaps have been going on in the Niger Delta. Speaker of Bayelsa State house of assembly's mum got kidnapped the other time. She was about 70. It took a whole week - if not more. The kidnappers demanded a 50 abi na 60 mn bail which the guy denied paying.

Then recently, the deputy speaker's son or so

I said something the other time and some people didn't find it appropriate 2 post such a thread. I asked what this whole thing can be called since people always say it's the Igbo man that's most greedy of all the tribes in Nigeria.
Nairaland GeneralRe: I Would Love To Know Your Choice. by nanaboi(m): 11:07am On Aug 10, 2007
I'd love 2 c um, Jaybaby & Ice - know if they're as alive as they sound
(hope they're both girls o)

Then 4 some strange reason, Orikinla - from a distance tho - I'd like someone 2 point him out so I'd be able 2 say I've seen him

Music/Radio1st Time U Sang On Stage by nanaboi(op): 4:30pm On Aug 06, 2007
Prior 2 that day, it had been just responsorial psalms in church, solos or stuff like that
The BS about that performance wasn't that it was my 1st time, but that I wasn't prepared.

It was a duet wit my bro - a real pushy kinda bro - and we wanted it 2 be a short medley, u know, flex voice a little, exhibit modern melisma and all

O boy, we don reach there, mic no good 2 start with and we didnt rehearse remember -
freestyle.
Ok

We started with "Silent Night" but like unlike we plan'd, we didnt get 2 do anotha one. We flex flex flex, modulate modulate soteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
mic spoil, scatter our voice wey we don already wear out with keyz that were inaccessible 2 our voices.

Bottom line, we messed up. And 2 think of say my bro attracted a lot of his friends (some of them real good singers) 2 watch us - chai!

The very next day, I had 2 leave skool - I just travelled home 2 hide my big head a while.
And tho there were later nice encounters on the stage, man, the 1st still tastes bitter.

Tell me about urs abeg

PoliticsNiger Delta Topping The Charts In Greed/corruption? by nanaboi(op): 4:41pm On Jul 26, 2007
It had always been "Igbo this" and "Igbo that" ; everybody talking about how greedy and corrupt the Igbos are when money's the subject.

Well, what do u think of the harvest of kidnaps that's now common talk in the Niger Delta? They kidnapped whites and were dubbed "militia", now that they're kidnapping their own - the wealthy and any available close relatives of such - what are they going 2 be called?
What wit the whooping sums demanded as ransom

U know the part that pisses me off? These guys have the highest number of lazy, jobless youth. Yea there's a big unemployment problem in Nigeria, but these leeches are "settled" by government, all companies in "their land" - international and local; yet they go about kidnapping 4 huge ransom.
Somebody give this thing a name I can undastand
RomanceRe: How Did It Go Sore Wit Ur Best Friend? by nanaboi(op): 4:15pm On Jul 26, 2007
Weel the intention was that we all share HOW it happened, not just say how we felt when it happened.

It could even a back-in-skool gist. Could be ur ex - the one that u thot was a friend, not the one u was just getting freaky with.

So can someone share?
Music/RadioAny Piano Tutor In Aba? by nanaboi(op): 5:14pm On Jul 23, 2007
I'm in Aba right now, and will be till I leave 4 service in September, hopefully. I was wondering if I kud meet a piano tutor in Aba. I don't have a piano - that's a fact 2 consider.

I know more than just a lot about R&B, but I actually started with hymns and classicals. So if the tutor is a church pianist, it's kool with me.
My e-mail: kool_like_water@yahoo.com

Joseph, hope u undastand - that's if u read this - proximity matters 2 me now. Thanx 4 ur reply. U might be my last resort.
Music/RadioRe: Illmatic-greatest Hip Hop Album by nanaboi(m): 4:56pm On Jul 23, 2007
A rap album does not make hiphop rather its an element of hiphop
I totally agree. But u should also note that rap is like the core of hip hop. Not every hip hop is rap, yea, but certainly ova 80% of hip hop is rap( correct me if I'm wrong).
And tho not every rap is hip hop, when u talk Nas, u're not talking much else xcept Hip Hop.

ladebi:
You can say illmatic is the greatest rap album, but which is not true.
Everybody has a right 2 their own opinion. If u agree wit me on that, then u agree someone can disagree wit u absoluteli on this one.

And like I said, in talking about Nas, please say hip hop and not rap, because if u simply say rap, then the 50 cents and all otha "rap artistes" might defile the category so much that Nas' ethereal hip hop will not condescend 2 fit in.

As 4 Illmatic, if I lose 2 copies of it, I'll buy 6 so I'll reduce any chances of not having it drastically, whetha or not it's the gr8st.
And tho I also feel Jigga like I feel my heartbeat, I can't help the fever "Ether" gives me.
RomanceHow Did It Go Sore Wit Ur Best Friend? by nanaboi(op): 4:40pm On Jul 23, 2007
Looking back now, I doubt if she was realli my friend. But I was very fond of her, & I guess she was fond of me too - @ least well enuff 2 creep wit me now and again.

Ok that day, I visisted skool. I'd graduated then. She had this room-mate - a friend of mine too. Both of them were there that day, with anotha girlfriend of theirs. None of them knew she was running stuff wit me - it was strictly b/w 2.
Then this framed picture of her and some guy caught my eye. I knew that frame when it contained a pic of just her. I asked naturalli, and it was her friends that told me it was her "homeboy".

I wasn't mad, but I wasn't happy either. I teased her around a lil bit, and she kept saying she'd talk 2 me later. Damn that talk. What was there 2 say? Why hadn't she told me all along when we spoke on fone? Y did I have 2 hear from her friends?

I didn't tell her when I was leaving the next day, and tho we've spoken now and then on fone since then, it's nothing like it used 2 be. I'd mo easily bang my head on the wall than call her these days, cause it's all sore, our friendship.

Can we hear urs?

I was thinking. I still I'm thiking what the reception will be if I imbued R & B, maybe Jazz or Afro in a remake of Sullivan & Gilbert's Trial By Jury

I really love that opera. I know most of the solos by heart; I learnt them in my when I was 14 or 15. Anyway, that'll be after I have made a mark in the industry.
LiteratureRe: What Difference Is there in hiphop's language with those of Literary novels? by nanaboi(m): 2:38pm On Jul 16, 2007
@Ndipe
There's something else I would like u to understand. There are just some situations that cannot be said to have been mirrored properly without at least an ounce of profanity.
For example, any work that tries to recapture certain scenes of war atrocities might as well be described as weak if it fails to create the right imagery.
Though I personally loathe the reality of the day: profanity, I loathe even more, works laced with "catcalls" as it were, "where there should be thunder". I'd go with apt representation any day.

@ author

I just sent u a mail. Hope u read it and reply either on this thread or thru e-mail. Even if we can't arrange 4 my lessons 2 begin, I'd really like 2 c u play.
Besides classical music, wat otha genre of music are u into? I undastand calssical folkz find it hard 2 condescend 2 any otha genre that's not as "pure" as classical music.

Depending on ur response, I'll mail u soon
PoliticsRe: N300m Bridge Collapses In Enugu by nanaboi(m): 12:32pm On Jul 12, 2007
It's not entirely a question of foreign construction companies over local ones. It's about how much of that whooping sum was actually put 2 use which is a problem with the government that awarded the contract in first place.

A foreing company would definitely charge more than a local company so that by the time they're done settling 'the powers that be" they still have enuff 2 do the contract 'fairly well". It's not always the same case with local companies.
Out of the 300m, u can bet far less than 150 was put 2 use.

I feel ur pain. But wat I'd have loved u 2 do is highlight the "foul" parts of the works u claim u read, or partially read. Reason is because they might not necessarily be as offensive as u think. Some other critic might see it differently perhaps in relation 2 its relation 2 sorrounding text.
U know grammar is not just about the words, it's also about the harmony of their combination.

So if he wasn't in Baltimore, his comment wud be illiterate 2? How much sense does that make? I mean, we all love and play muzik well here, so just coz u probabli were so broke and illiterate (not like u sound any improved now) while u were here does not mean everbody still in Nigeria is that way.

SO PLS LET NONE OF Y'ALL SAY SH*t CUS DEM 2 DUDES, ARE YA
BEST RAPPERS FAVORITE PRODUCERS SO JUST RESPECT THAT .
That's not the point. Everybody in here knows both of em and how good they are. Question is: now they got beef, who d'u think is better anyway?

And yea they all have their unique elements, but if people prefer one 2 the otha, it means that his element is better accepted or loved, and not that the otha is actualli not good or worse.

Besides, everybody has their taste/opinion, so if mine is Tim, then dont diss that. Hope u'll rememba that.

Personalli, I dig Timba. Scott? He's gonna have 2 do mo than the regular - my assessment, that is - 2 compete Tim.
Tim's nowhere on the regular. I think he's run the entire gamut of wat good production is about - hit songs, nu rhythm, funkified ol' skool plus, EVERYTHING ELSE!

viee:
the concubine still remain the only Nigerian novel i can't get tired of reading!
it is so well written and the story so fantastic that you can so easily indentify with the characters.
That's my description of Helon Habila's "Waiting 4 an Angel". I just love that novel like Adichie's "Purple Hibiscus". I wouldn't mind a waka-pass role in any of those 2.

If 6 years were 2 return right now, 2day would'a still been a thursday. Okey would have left my house with some friends, disappointed that I wasn't ready to go hang out like we'd been doing for the period.

He would'a said "you're a bunch of disappointments" at the door, and I woulda laughed.
Then I'd have called after them from upstairs "I'll meet u guys in school around 10 or 11!"
And the response would follow,"Suit yourself!"

Then later on, 2ward evening, he'd leave the company of some of our friends in school for home where he'd soak otto (like I heard he did) and then go down 2 the nurse who'd been giving him injections the whole week. That's where it would happen:
that his vision was blurry after the injexion; that he was having a fainting feeling; that , that he was , dead.
