A group, Osun Concerned Citizens, on Wednesday, protested the tribunal judgement that declared Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the September 22, 2018 governorship election in Osun state. The group, who barricaded Osogbo, the state capital in their hundreds, included students of higher institutions, market women and traders. They carried placards of various inscription such as: “No To Kangaroo Judgement”, Oyetola Is The Peoples’ Choice”, “Osun Voted Oyetola”, “On Oyetola Mandate We Stand.”Speaking with news men, the General Secretary of the group, Yaya Ademola, condemned the ruling of the panel, describing it as “strange and baseless.“The said verdict, which is a split decision by which a majority of 2 of the 3 members Panel, purportedly declared Mr. Ademola Adeleke of the PDP as winner of the September 22 and 29, 2018 Governorship Election is clearly unacceptable to us and the overwhelming majority of the people of Osun in general and the Electorate in particular.“Our rejection of the said verdict is borne out of the clear fact that it is a thinly disguised attempt at clothing the product of a black-market judicial heist with the garb of legality in the hope that it may acquire legitimacy.Similar news NPFL: Akwa United pip Heartland in Uyo“Notwithstanding the fact that a proper legal response to this unjust verdict has been entered at the Court of Appeal, we hasting to say that the basis with which the majority judgement was made is strange and baseless.“In the first instance, the claim of the majority judgement to declare that the 29/09/2018 rerun illegal, on the basis that only PO and not RO could cancel result in the 7 Polling Units across 3 Local Governments in the rerun does not arise. Neither the PO nor RO cancelled elections in the affected areas. Elections didn’t take place. Where it did, it was disrupted with ballot boxes snatched and carted away with no returns.“In Orolu, Ife South and Ife North, elections were disrupted with no returns. In Unit 017, Ward 5 , Osogbo LG, election did not hold at all and no returns. Under this circumstance, it is a settled case at the Supreme Court in James Faleke vs INEC (2016), that where the difference between the two leading candidates will be determined by the votes of places where elections didn’t hold or disrupted, there will be rerun. This situation is not peculiar to Osun.Similar news IBEDC: Oyetola reopens state institutions days after violenceThe group cited 2011 Anambra Senatorial Election between leading APGA and ACN, 2013 Anambra Guber Election between leading APGA and PDP, 2015 Imo Guber Election between leading APC and PDP, 2015 Bayelsa Guber Election between leading PDP and APC, and 2015 Guber Election between leading leading APC and PDP, as examples. The group insisted that the petitioner didn’t prove that election took place or there were returns in the affected areas, saying “he did not even plead that the rerun is illegal.“How could the Majority of 2 out of 3 deduct votes in 23 units merely for the fact that INEC did not properly fill Form EC8A? How could 23 units of the entire 3,010 could be substantial enough, assuming it is non-compliance with electoral rule for Judges to alter votes of the people moreso, when the Petitioner didn’t demand for it? If it is substantial enough, would it not make better sense to pronounce rerun in the 23 units instead of the algebra, subtraction and addition with which the majority 2 turned themselves?Similar news INEC server allegation: Prepare to face our legal team - PDP fires back at APC“We are concerned and indeed alarmed that rather than adjudicate in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Electoral Act that emphasises Substantial Compliance or lack of it or want of it as the basis for proving the validity or otherwise of the election of a candidate, the majority decision of the Tribunal arbitrarily pitched its tent with the formal irregularity of the failure of INEC to fill certain columns of the Result Sheets even when they do not affect the number of votes scored by candidates! This amounts to a disingenuous working to a predetermined answer. The group said “we shall not rest until true Justice is done in the final determination of all appellate proceedings. Attempts to obstruct our votes shall be vehemently resisted. http://www.spynigeria.ng/2019/03/27/osun-group-protests-rejects-tribunal-judgement/

A mild controversy has trailed a statement made on Tuesday by the head of the Nigeria Police Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU), Mr Yomi Shogunle, who said having sex in the car in a public place isn’t a crime. Mr. Shogunle, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), made the statement while responding to a Twitter user (@Stanley_Moses13) who had asked if it is a crime to have sex in ones car. “Oga Yomi Shogunle please is it a crime to have sex in your car?” the Twitter user had asked the Assistant Police Commissioner. But Shogunle responded saying, “NO. Sex in a car in a public place is not a crime in Nigeria provided; 1. Location is not a place of worship, 2. Parties are 18 yrs+, 3. The act is consensual (agreed to by parties), 4. Parties are of opposite sex.” The Police Officer added that “If threatened with an arrest over above, pls contact the PCRRU”. But a quick look at the Criminal Code Act by SPY NIGERIA indicates that Mr Shogunle may have erred in his claim that having “Sex in a car in a public place is not a crime in Nigeria” Contrary to the assertion by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Section 231, subsection 1 and 2 of the of the Criminal Code says, “Any person who willfully and without excuse does any indecent act in a public place; or willfully does any indecent act in any place with intent to insult or offend any person; is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment for two years”. http://www.spynigeria.ng/2018/12/11/sex-in-the-car-did-police-spokesperson-yomi-shogunle-mislead-nigerians/ |

A few years ago when Tosin got married to her husband, Temitayo never thought there was a tradition in her husband’s village that will soon put an end to their love which many likened to Romeo and Juliet’s. Temitayo is from a royal family in Igbesa, an ancient community in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria. After their not too glamorous wedding in Nigeria, Temitayo, together with his newly wedded wife, Tosin traveled to the United Kingdom in November 2016 where fortune smiles at them in the foreign land. The couple was later blessed with a beautiful baby girl. Their trouble started when they traveled back to their fatherland, Nigeria sometime in 2017. According to a family source privy to the happenings who spoke in confidence to Newsmen, Tosin’s husband’s family demanded that her only daughter should be released to them for traditional ritual meant for any first daughter born into the royal family. The demand, which Tosin vehemently refused to oblige. A decision which was also backed by Temitayo, her husband. Our source explained that, in Temitayo’s family, it is a taboo to have a female child as the firstborn of their male child. That if such happens, such female child must unavoidably undergo a traditional ritual that does not guarantee the life of such female child. That is, such child could either survive the ritual or dies in the process. So, the little innocent girl was requested for the ritual. We learned that all entreaties by Temitayo’s family to ensure the baby girl is released proved abortive, as Tosin was hell-bent, refusing to release her daughter for such blood sucking ritual. At a point, our source said some family members of Temitayo came from Igbesa to Ijebu Ode, where the couple was living after their arrival from the United Kingdom in August 2017. Their mission was to forcefully take away the girl for the ritual, but Tosin stood her ground. In the process, she was reportedly battered and assaulted along with her daughter. As if that was not enough, a male family member of her husband also tried to harass her sexually, our source claimed. “Unable to cope with the assaults and threats by her in-laws, Tosin, and her daughter have fled to an unknown destination since January 2018. Her husband, Temitayo too is nowhere to be found, our source said as at when writing this report” Read More >> http://www.spynigeria.ng/2018/04/24/tosin-a-true-story-of-a-woman-tortured-sexually-assaulted-for-refusing-to-release-her-only-daughter-for-sacrifice-by-husbands-family/ |
A member of the House of Representatives, Buba Jibril, is dead. Though details of his death were sketchy, the Kogi State Government has confirmed the death. A statement by the government said Governor Yahaya Bello expressed “deep shock” over the demise of one of the state’s most astute politician and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Buba Umar Jibril. The Governor described the late Jibril, representing Lokoja Federal Constituency, as a man who “lived in the hearts of his people”, saying the vacuum he left in the state and the All Progressives Congress will be difficult to fill. Bello said: “The late former Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker and a Principal Officer of the House of Representatives was a man of the people. His life is a book for anyone aspiring for greatness to read. The late Buba identified with his people and lived a life of serving the poor in his constituency. “A successful politician, the late Rt Hon. Buba Jibril was a lesson in positivism; a man who chose to take his destiny in his hand on several occasions. “He will be remembered for his astuteness and purposeful leadership as well as his philanthropic life and service to humanity. New generation of Kogites and Nigerians at large will have a lot to learn from the life of the great patriot.” Bello has assured the people of Lokoja that the “departed hero and indomitable grassroots commander” will be immortalized to “keep the memories of his great contributions to the development of Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole”. http://www.spynigeria.ng/2018/03/30/breaking-kogi-federal-lawmaker-dies-governor-yahaya-bello-expresses-regrets/ |
Maryam Sanda, who is accused of stabbing her husband, Bilyamin Bello, to death has granted bail by an FCT High Court, Daily Nigerian reports. Her slain husband was a nephew to former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Haliru Bello. Ruling on her bail application, Justice Yusuf Halilu said the court granted her bail based on medical report which indicates she is pregnant and indisposed. She told a Federal High Court in Jabi on Monday that she should be released on bail in view of her condition. Recall that Mrs Sanda, whose trial started on February 5, asked the presiding judge, Yusuf Halilu, to accede to her earlier application for bail. Joseph Daudu, Sanda’s lawyer, asked that the judge to have sympathy on his client and grant her bail to seek proper medical attention for her pregnancy. The prosecuting counsel, James Idachaba, however opposed the bail application, stating that the claim of Sanda’s 3-month pregnancy had to be proved, as the evidence provided was insufficient. http://www.spynigeria.ng/2018/03/07/just-in-killer-housewife-maryam-sanda-regain-freedom/
