A pity one has to take extreme caution while dealing with those with the role of "to serve and protect with integrity".

Sometimes while walking on the road around places like Yaba, I get more really anxious of meeting a stop and search police officer. Those guys will ask you ridiculous questions and make demands just to rob you of your cash.

Sports / Nigeria On A 5-year Project To Build A Great Team by Napolitano(m): 6:23am On Jan 21, 2013

Nigeria, who embark on a new chapter as they seek to return to past glories at the African Nations Cup, are starting a five-year project which will culminate at the 2018 World Cup, coach Stephen Keshi said.

“This is a team that is in a process to become better over the next five years,” Keshi told reporters ahead of his team’s first match at the tournament on Monday.

“We are not looking at this Nations Cup alone but looking at the World Cup in five years from now. That is why we decided to go with some of the younger players in our squad. I have confidence in them, they have been working hard.”

Among the changes he has made was the controversial dropping of striker Osaze Odemwingie, who responded with a series of furious tweets, and leaving out Spanish-based forward Obafemi Martins.

“The youngsters are desperate, they are on fire. It not just for this tournament but it’s a team in a process to become a better side over the next five years,” Keshi said.

The Super Eagles were among the dominant forces in African football a decade ago but their match in Nelspruit on Monday against Burkina Faso in Group C marks their return to the Nations Cup field after embarrassingly missing out on the last tournament a year ago.

That failure led to the appointment of Keshi, who captained the side to their last Nations Cup title in 1994 the year they made a World Cup finals debut in the United States.

“That was a side of character, we played with passion, we loved the game. We were very close, we were brothers,” said Keshi, known as ‘Big Boss’ in his playing days.

“When we were out there we saw nothing that could defeat us. We had the mentality that you cannot beat us.

“Right now, it’s different but it is coming back gradually, we are bringing back that mentality that we used to have. We just need more time. I like what I’ve seen from my team but we need time and patience.”

Sports / Asamoah Gyan Vows Not To Take Penalty For Ghana by Napolitano(m): 2:25pm On Jan 20, 2013

With the AFCON 2013 already in play, Ghanian forward Asamoah Gyan vowed not to take a penalty for his home country again. This was reported in an interview with the BBC.

The reason for the decision according to Gyan was because of his late mother who made him make the promise to her.

"I have decided not to take a penalty for the national team," [Gyan] said.

"[...] I said some months back that I wouldn't take another penalty. Before my Mum died [in November] she told me not to take penalties any more."

Gyan's penalty losses has cost Ghana ernomously in the 2010 World Cup and 2012 African Cup of Nations. He once retired from international football over criticisms following his missed penalties.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Valdez Doesn't Plan To Renew Barca Contract In 2014 by Napolitano(m): 8:37pm On Jan 18, 2013

Victor Valdez, Barcelona’s ace stop shotter has expressed his decision not to renew his contract in Camp Nou. His current contract ends in June 2014. Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has stated that the club respects Valdes decision not to renew his contract. Zubizarreta explained that Barca officials did not have a chance to offer the goal-keeper better terms.

"We were holding the first meeting to initiate the process for renewing Victor's contract. The meeting began with us expressing the club's desire to extend his contract, because we consider him to be a top class goalkeeper," Zubizarreta told Barca TV.

"But before we could make any proposal or discuss anything, his agent said the decision was already made and meditated, and that he will not be staying any later than June 30, 2014. It is an irrevocable decision. We must respect the professional decision of a player who has spent 12 years in this home.”

"With that in mind, we are asking you to continue supporting him and to encourage him as much as you have done throughout his career. He is committed to this jersey until June 30, 2014 and will defend the goal with everything he has and knows.

Reports in Spain suggest that Valdes is leaving based on wages. It was said that he expects pay similar to Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Lampard To Leave Chelsea For L.A. Galaxy by Napolitano(m): 4:47pm On Jan 18, 2013

It has been reported that Chelsea midfielder has agreed to continue his football career with the LA Galaxy football club in the United States. This nod comes as the Blues midfielder was told by the three-time Premier League champions that he will not be offered an extension on his current £150,000-a-week deal contract. His contract expires at the end of the season. Lampard was signed in to play for Chelsea 12 years ago.

"It's all but done," a source in the United States told Goal.com.

Lampard is Chelsea' second-highest all-time goalscorer. During Chelsea's tour in North America last summer, Lampard expressed an interest in playing in United States Soccer League – Major League Soccer (MLS) but admitted that he would wait to see if Chelsea would extend his contract first.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / "Ryan Giggs To Play For One More Season" Says Ferguson by Napolitano(m): 11:09am On Jan 17, 2013

Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United’s manager has confirmed that Ryan Giggs will still be playing for the next 1 year before considering retirement in the club.

Giggs, who made his league debut for the club in 1991, is the only player to have appeared in every single Premier League season . However, at the retiring age of 39, it seems it is high-time the midfielder welcomes the end of his career. Giggs starred in Manchester United’s 1-0 FA Cup win over West Ham on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex said: "He will play for another year. There are no discerning signs of tiredness or weakness in his game, his quality is still there and he has fantastic balance.

"He has the appetite for it and he is just an incredible human being."
Giggs was crowned the Man-of-the-Match in the FA cup win.

“I’m just enjoying my football at the moment and seeing what this season brings.” said Giggs

Sports / QPR Highly Interested In Signing Peter Odemwingie by Napolitano(m): 6:20am On Jan 15, 2013
It has been reported that Queens Park Rangers are highly interested in Nigerian winger, Peter Odemwingie who presently plays for West Bromwich Albion.

Despite initial rejection, the Rangers are expected to return with a new bid for the 31-year-old which could test Albion’s resolve.

West Bromwich Albion has indicated their not for sale stance on Odemwingie. However, with his contract expiring next summer, there might be consideration on the sale of the winger.

It was also proposed that Odemwingie will be offered a £50,000-a-week contract, with an escape clause should they be relegated at the end of this season.

Odemwingie, currently injured, is in no rush to leave Albion, where he seems very happy and comfortable. It is reported that he is expecting to be a father soon. However, the prospect of one final lucrative contract at his age might prove too tempting to turn down.

The Nigerian winger was not listed among the players lined up for the oncoming African Nation’s Cup in South Africa.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Cristiano Ronaldo Says He's Loyal To Real Madrid by Napolitano(m): 11:03pm On Jan 14, 2013
Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated loyalty with the Blancos in a recent interview. He is reported to having saying he has no intention of leaving Santiago Bernabeu anytime soon.

"I want to see out my contract at Real Madrid: I’m very clear about that. After that, well, I don’t know what will happen in the future," the prolific attacker told Fifa.com.

"Am I happy? Honestly, yes. I’m doing something I like, something that I enjoy. I know how fortunate I am and I feel very fulfilled."

Ronaldo got transferred to Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009. His contract expires in 2015. Ronaldo then went on to defend coach Jose Mourinho against recent criticism that has been pouring on him.

"People do protest and you have to respect that, though I think they should be a bit patient with him/ To me it’s very clear that Mourinho always wants what’s best for the club and will fight to the death to defend it.

"All of us who work alongside him know that, but you’ve still got to show respect for the fans’ opinion. In my view he’s the best coach in the world, he’s got loads of experience and has won everything there is to win."

About himself being controversial, he had this to say.

"I don’t know why I'm surrounded by controversy. I can’t answer that question with total certainty, because it’s something I’ve asked myself too. People who know me and those who’ve played alongside me know what kind of a guy I am.

Sports / Racism In Football: Was It Wrong For Prince-boateng To Leave? by Napolitano(m): 8:17am On Jan 07, 2013

Last week, while AC Milan battled Pro Patria, a section of the Pro Patria fans ranted racist abuse on Ghanaian Kevin Prince-Boateng. The reaction got Prince-Boateng leaving the pitch in fury as well as other AC Milan players, which left the match abandoned.

The FIFA president Sepp Blatter however did not agree with Boateng's move. He alluded that there should be better solutions to the issue of racist fans.

“Walk off? No, I don't think that is the solution,” Blatter told reporters in Dubai.

“But the Italian federation have yet to provide FIFA with the report detailing what exactly has happened. I don't think you can run away, because eventually you can run away if you lose a match."

“This issue is a very touchy subject, but I repeat there is zero tolerance of racism in the stadium; we have to go against that. The only solution is to be very harsh with the sanctions - and the sanctions must be a deduction of points or something similar.”

As there will always be misfits and lawless racist fans sometimes, the question lies 'what will be the best solution: walking off, fines or point deduction?'

AC Milan showed support for Boateng by wearing T-shirts 'AC Milan against racism'.
