TravelRe: 5 Tips To Guide You When You Witness An Auto Crash by nas00(m): 8:44am On Apr 15, 2017
@OP:

Nice attempt.

However, there are instances you MUST touch the accident victim(s) before emergency service arrives the scene.

After calling the emergency service, before deciding whether to touch the victim or not:

1) Observe the victim generally. If the victim is bleeding profusely and you can see it externally, you MUST stop the bleeding by applying a firm bandage as a temporary measure.
It does not have to be original bandage material. You may tear a clean piece of fabric (e.g. Victim's shirt or if you have spare cloth)

2) After stopping visible bleeding, FEEL the victim's pulse (every adult Nigerian should be able to do this ideally).
If pulse is FAST and WEAK or SLOW and WEAK, patient needs very rapid intervention by medics. You must let them know immediately they arrive the scene that this particular victim is in worse danger.

3) Next observe the victim's chest to see if he/she is breathing at all. If breathing, what is the pattern like?
Too FAST breathing indicates trouble and ABSENT or too few breaths per minute (<18-20) also indicate trouble.
You might want to call for nearby assistance to lift victim out, if not breathing well. Lay victim flat on the back, preferably on a rigid board, lift chin up as much as possible, check throat for any objects blocking and remove if there is.
If you know how to properly administer CPR, start it while you wait for emergency service.

If you don't know how to properly administer CPR, the victim might stand a better chance if you leave in a well ventilated space.

Take home point: Your judgement, action and inaction at an accident site may be the sole determinant if victim makes it to the hospital and out of hospital alive or not. It is not in all cases you should not touch the victim. Except you don't know what to do, which I believe is the reason for this thread- to educate people.

Cheers!

If you really digested my post, I even emphasized it. I don't know where you came about "first neurosurgeon in the world". I never said that, so don't be ridiculous please.

The essence of my post was to draw the attention of readers to the fact that a Nigerian lady had already qualified as a licensed neurosurgeon, even though it was not all over the news...and she is the first female neurosurgeon in Nigeria.

How this constitutes an ARGUMENT is beyond me.

A Ghanaian girl Nancy Abu-Bonsrah is making history in the United states after becoming the first black female neurosurgeon at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 30 years... The prestigious program accepts just two to five residents, and is ranked second in the country. Among its most notable alumni: Dr. Ben Carson, who is now the United States secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Nana, who's graduating from John Hopkins and will go on to work in their neurosurgery department, hails from Ghana. She was raised in the West African country until the age of 15, and has been in Maryland for the past 11 years.

Ok. Congrats to her.

Take note: First female to match for neurosurgery residency at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Nobody can take that from the Ghanian lady, but she never even start.

However, this is not strange to some of us because Nigeria already beat Ghana to this years ago.

The first female neurosurgeon in Nigeria presently works at the University College Hospital Ibadan. She completed residency in the same institution, and is a full fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. She is a qualified neurosurgeon.

Go and do your fact-finding. I won't mention her name

I seriously need help with my Honda CRV 04. When i am driving, sometimes i observe that the car is not moving as fast as it should be when i throttle down ( its like something is holding the tyre back) when i stopped to observe the tyres. i noticed that the front right tyre was very very hot compared to the other tyres.
I took to car to a mechanic, i was introduced to and the guy said the master break was bad, i had to change that only to discover that the same issue happened again.
latest discovery is that, each time i notice the dragging and put off the ignition and put it back on, the dragging disappears and the car is free to drive well. This dragging doesnt happen everyday. i have been using the car that way, but scared that one day the ignition off and on trick might fail me.
advice needed please.
grin grin

Sorry, OP, make I laff small first.

How did you measure the differential temperature of the tyres?
Remember when driving, tyres are normally expected to heat up.

But seriously, I think you should consider fuel system or electrical issues.

How does your car behave at idle?
While experiencing this retarded acceleration, has your engine ever shut off on its own OR jerked?

Misfires should be ruled out.

You need to SCAN THE CAR to find out.

@OP:

It is either you are being deceived, or you know the fact but want to deceive Nigerians for reasons best known to you.

Now, let me tell you and other readers who may not understand the sequence.

That picture you captioned 'AFTER' was the child's eye at the initial stages, before the tumor became advanced and the eyeball went necrotic (dead tissue). Your 'BEFORE' picture is in fact the 'AFTER' event.

Again, treatment of this condition is not just surgery. Chemotherapy is the first mode of treatment, to shrink the tumor before surgery to remove it.

And there is NO WAY on earth an already rotten eye can look like what you showed as 'After' again.

What you are trying to imply is totally disgusting and false.

Go back and ask questions before posting pictures in ignorance.

@Miss OP: With this mindset of yours, it is clear you are not yet ready for a relationship, let alone marriage. You don't understand the dynamics.

Assuming this bf of yours has no other girls he is after, he will still dump you with this path you have chosen.

That guy could be stretching you to know the limit of your patience.

Many guys are not that stupid or heartless. No matter how hard, guys would often softpedal and do anything to marry a girl who has proven her maturity, patience/ tolerance and love beyond doubt. These are some of the key virtues guys seek in the so-called 'wife materials'.

Sometimes at the outset, guys are conscious of the bad things they do to you (even if you don't raise these issues). They observe how you handle those situations and judge your acceptability based on that, amongst other acid tests. It is when you have passed that the guy begins to treat you like a queen.

If you can't tolerate him at his seeming worst, you don't deserve his best.

On the converse, guys don't take this kindly when it's the girl doing the exact thing to them.. but i've found out it's a strategy a significant number of guys use.

Before a guy proposes marriage to you, he has tested you in many ways, even though you may not be aware.

Wishing you the best, but you may need to revise your ideas. Otherwise, you'll end up with a pretender that will do all the 'sweet' things you want at the outset but show his true colours by the time you are trapped in marriage.

Change your attitude!

OP: Great thread.

The brake is the most important system of ANY car.

There is absolutely no point moving a car that cannot be brought to a halt, or predictably so. That's disaster.

Therefore, like my teacher would say:

"No matter how expensive a car is, the car is only as good as its brakes"

Everyone should have this at the back of their minds.

Is Total Coolant still in the market? I have searched from Jos to Abuja to no avail
It's in the market, but it's availability appears seasonal.

My personal theory is this: It is less readily available in dry season, when cooling system issues are likely to be aggravated due to hotter weather. So, many more people buy 'radiator coolant' in an attempt to solve issues, thus creating relative scarcity.

There are certain main/mega Total stations, where these products are delivered in bulk quantities. Target these stations, rather than the minor outlets. They are usually more likely to have.

If the main stations don't have when you check, you can get a contact number to make inquiry from time to time. Once they take delivery, go and buy.

It used to be #350 per bottle. Bought it for #400 about 2months ago though. Filled up a drained '04 accord cooling system with about 7 bottles of the coolant.

thefunclubenterprise:
Good morning sir, I wish I had found your thread earlier, I would have paid you a visit with my Honda accord 2007 4 plugs while in lagos. Anyway, I will sure visit once I return to lagos next month.

I am currently having excessive vibrations on the dash board. I guess that's engine seats right?

Secondly, I have never experienced overheat issues till few days back when a friend used the car to go out and called to tell me the car overheated and smoke was coming out of the bonnet. He checked the radiator after it cooled down and said the water was low. I was surprised about this as I always do routine checks on my fluid levels every weekend and the water was topped the previous weekend.
We took it to a mechanic (I never trust mechanics in Benin and always wait till I return to lagos to do maintenance and repair) he said the radiator has "expired" and we should change it to a double cell for 22k. I asked if I can come back this weekend, He advised I can manage it for the week by always filling the water level every morning.

But i noticed something yesterday, the car temperature remains constant without ac, but whenever you use ac during the hot sun it starts rising after about an hour or two ., switch off the ac and the temperature falls back to normal within 10-20mins. Also it remains constant with Ac in the morning and nights, no temperature rise.

What's your advise sir? Do we have to change the radiator or It just has to do with the ac or something

I need a session with you sir when I come back to lagos, I love quality services and people who know their onions and so far you seem so from your replies on this thread.
In addition to replacing your radiator ASAP, as advised by Gazzuzz, ensure you fill your radiator this time with COOLANT ONLY. Most coolants available in the market already come pre-mixed with water. Adding water over-dilutes it. Total coolant is not bad at all... Honda Genuine type 2 coolant is the standard though.

Btw, I suspect you had pockets of air in your cooling circuit when you had the overheating experience.. Plus, water has a lower boiling point compared to coolant. You can only expect a system filled with water to have some evaporation and sooner or later, overheating!

2ndly, the vents on the far left and right for both driver and passenger hardly blows any air out unless I increase the fan speed to the 4th or 5th speed.
Any resolutions
1st issue: Assuming you are having this issue with the driver's side climate control temperature set for its coldest (thick blue), you are LOW on refrigerant. Recharging your a/c system with good refrigerant will solve that.

2nd issue: Your cabin air filter must be very dirty. Replace it and you'll get much better air flow and colder too.

Cheers!

Car TalkRe: Symptoms Of A Bad Or Failing Fan Belt Adjuster (drive Belt Tensioner) by nas00(m): 7:45pm On Nov 09, 2016
CuteTj:
Although the noise comes on when you switch on your AC (its the compressor that kicks to life) but I don't think it has anything to do with the filling of your AC. Its the belt. Either the belt is a bit slack or a bit tight.

When I changed my belt and that squealing noise started, all I did to quench the noise from my belt was to apply grease on the teeth of the belt all through. I did that for 3 straight weeks (once a week) and the noise totally disappeared. I don't know if that is proper but 18 months down the line and the belt is still working perfectly.
Hullo Sir.

Applying grease or oil to your serpentine belt to eliminate squealing is BAD practice.

Reason: You effectively reduce the torque generated in your engine, due to less grip and some slipping. In short, your engine efficiency and that of all other systems run by the serpentine belt reduces (water pump for cooling, power steering pump, alternator, a/c compressor)

The squealing noise you heard might be due to the new belt being too tight or a bit lax. Adjusting the tensioner would solve that. A wet belt may also cause squealing, although that will cease once the belt is dry.

Be safe 'n don't spread bad habits.

Cheers!

Congrats from here too, Sir.

Though, 2 years is not quite a long time. The difference between an engine that feeds on synthetic and that which feeds on mineral shows with time. Say, 5-10 years at least.

That said, your maintenance and use schedule could also make a difference in the long term. So, permit me ask:

1) How frequently do you drain your engine oil?

2) How heavily do you use the car? (E.g. Frequent long distance travels, Use every single day and for considerable time everyday)

Pls whats the recommended tire pressure for a honda crv 08 model and a known maintainance issue i should be worried about just got the car as an upgrade from 04 camry and i im new to it . Tnx
Greetings Sir.

Check the driver's door jamb. You should see a factory label there, that has tire pressure information.

Concerning your second question, I quote one of my previous responses on this thread. Hope you find it helpful:

Regarding availability of spare parts, honda accord parts are readily available at Oyingbo spare parts market in Lagos. That market is almost exclusively for honda parts. Just name it.

Maintenance depends on the quality of car you buy ab-initio. So, assuming you buy a clean title car with good engine, the only thing you should be doing is routine maintenance:

- Changing engine oil and filter at regular intervals. Specified in owner's manual.
- Changing spark plugs at regular intervals (Honda specifies this in the owner's manual). Use recommended izfr6k-11 iridium spark plugs for better performance and longer plug life.
- Let the car idle for at least 5 mins every morning before you drive it out. It prevents engine wear, thereby prolonging engine life.
- Change tires when moderately worn.
- Avoid turning your steering completely to the last stop when making U-turns or sharp turns. This is your best bet to avoiding potentially embarrassing ball joint/ arm problems in future
- Avoid running into potholes as much as possible. You are better off slowly driving through potholes or irregular
- Do not fill your radiator with water. Use radiator coolant and do not dilute (most are already pre-diluted).
- Empty radiator coolant and change with fresh one every 2 years
- You must check your car fluids every morning before moving the car. At worst, every other day. These include your brake fluid, power steering fluid, engine oil level, radiator coolant level, clutch fluid (if manual transmission). You may need to top off once in a long while, but you never can tell if you don't check.
- Check transmission fluid (gear oil) once a while, say every 3-6 months...OR at every engine oil change. You may not need to replace this for years, but it's good practice. It helps you to know when to drain and refill, judging from fluid level, color, smell or consistency.
- Brake pads to be replaced at regular intervals, after noting the average duration it takes your brake pads to wear out (depends on how much you use the car and driving habits)

If you follow these tips, you'll be really glad you did.

All the best.
