Good win in the end. I thought going to be one of those days. Credit to Mata for stepping up when it mattered. . . again! His goal changed our fortunes. The introduction of Hazard made us even more fluid up front and a win was almost in the bag from then on.

@Ibime,

I watched that Bony video when Tomas Kalas first spoke abut Chelsea buying him in November. He does have balance and technique. Two things I always desire in a player. That said, I don't think you ever watched Kezman in a PSV shirt. He was utter class with insane technique, balance and incredible composure in front of goal. On the big stage it turned out different.

On Emenalo.

This is too much stick the poor dude is getting. If there are TDs that know how a team fits, there cannot be more than a handful of them. Most of them are a step over a scout. Most TDs are employed because of their ability to spot talent and they do just that - lure talent at the best prices possible. Many of them are in fact, HEAD OF THE SCOUTING NETWORK. So trying to scold Emenalo for not possessing skills that most of his mates don't anyway is always a step too far. At least Frank Arnesen didn't. Talking about luring talent. Since July 2011 Emenalo became TD, these are the players he's brought in.

Marin
Hazard
Azpilicueta
Moses
Oscar
Courtois
Romeu
Lukaku
Mata
Meireles
Cahill
De Bruyne
Bamford.

Just before Emenalo,

Torres
Luiz
Benayoun
Turnbull
Zhirkov
Matic
Sturridge
Ramires
Miniero
Quaresma

In my opinion, Emenalo in doing what most TDs do, has done fantastic. Alright, he can do more but so can anyone else. Plus he's only been there over a year. There's no disaster as far as I am concerned.

On Emenalo with Torres.

Torres joined 6 months before Emenalo became TD. Torres is Chelsea's biggest investment ever in a single player. One of the highest earners ever in a blue. I an imagine what Romans instructions were to Emenalo, MAKE IT WORK. So if Emenalo is buying players to enable the best in Torres, how has he done wrong? If you want to take anger out on anyone, you need to visit Roman's office. Unless you want to call Emenalo an eediot for not calling Roman's bluff and walking out. Why should he?

Ibime: This sounds like what Wenger has been telling Gayyners for 8 years now. Great youngsters here and on loan yet flopping in everything.

You have just told us why Emenalo is a scout, now tell us why he is a technical director.

We don't want to hear nonsense about next season. You don't talk about next season with proven spine in the team like Terry, Ivanovic, Cech, Cole, Lampard and Mata with 100milla spent ontop. You must be madd!!

We have the players, experience and mentality to WIN this season, if only the TD knows how they fit together and buy the right players to complement them in DM and striking department. Nigel De Jong and Wilfred Bony alone is enough to render this team champions.

We don't give ninjas 200milla to tell us about the future. Nonsense!
Nigel De Jong must have been on astronomical wages. Wages that will not justify his inclusion in the team. While it is easy for City to move him on to Milan and pay part of his wages, they won't do the same for a potential rival in Chelsea. So while you think Emenalo didn't consider that, he may have.

There's nothing to justify that Bony will cut it on the big stage. Kalou was scoring heavily in the Dutch league and bullying them. So was Mateja Kezman.

Chelsea under Frank Arnesen opted for the cheap, age 15 to 20 footballers. Spending cheap and hoping they turn out to be good. We spend over £1m a season on the academy and apart from Josh in recent years who's knocked on the door of the first team, no other player has. The system has largely failed. A new method is being adopted - Under 23s who may come in a bit pricey but are ready to walk into the first team and more importantly have decent resale value. In 10 years, Chelsea made a profit on the sale of only one player - Robben. That's bad squad management. It's not ONLY about winning.

This is why we pay £20m on players and they still may not be able to take us to the next level YET.

About Emenalo being a TD, I will not be the first to call Emenalo a seasoned TD. He isn't. However, what he's done so far, for me, he's done reasonably well.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by nateevs(m): 10:32pm On Dec 17, 2012
I don't see any destroying going on to be honest.

We have a fabulous young goal keeper in Thibault Courtouis. I'm sure you've already seen the links with Barcelona. THe whole of Spain is raving about him.

In defense, a good, strong base in Cahill, Bran, Terry, Luiz, Cole, Azpilicueta and Wallace to join next season. Then there's Tomas Kalas on loan - a very good defender - even at only 19. Nathaniel Chalobah - the impressive young kid at Watford is doing very well.

In midfield, the purchases of Hazard, Mata and Oscar cannot be a mistake. We also have Kevin De Bryune and McEachran doing very well. Moses and Marin and squad players.

This is rebuilding. Not destroying.

Now I know that this is hardly enough as we are poor in numbers in attack and midfield needs a bit of bolstering. We also need strength, experience, balanced with good technique and guile in attack and midfield but hey, that's why it's called rebuilding. You never get it right first time around because it's a phased process. Fortunately for us, we have an owner who is not shy at flashing his wallet so there is no disaster.

There will be more players added, young ones will get more experience and next season will be the season we actually challenge seriously. Let's all calm down.

Calm down ladies. It's the daily mail for heaven's sake. Rebuilding is never as easy as it seems. It became apparent that we had to dismantle and begin again. It can't all be rosy. On the road to a new solid team, there will be pain, near misses and things will be gotten utterly wrong. However, with persistence, there's joy in the end.

So instead of all the name-calling and blaming, enjoy the moment, take the positives and hope for the best. We are doing a good job at rebuilding.

dayokanu: Once again I have shut the pro Torres camp with incontrovertible fact that Torres is useless. The least clear cut chance conversion among top strikers

Torres has the worst minute per goal of all the strikers compared, Tied for the least shot on target with Giroud, , Has the lowest shots off target (What we have been saying Torres is too timid to take shots) The worst min/per shots on targe
Mate, No you didn't. Sometimes it's silly to keep an argument on when it's clear that there will no common ground on opinions. I did ask for facts from A-40 to prove Torres' low conversion rate and the stats were provided to show Torres' low CCC rate. I will not be intellectually dishonest (one for Ibime) and argue senselessly. So I drop that.

However the low conversion rate argument is a digression off the real argument. Is it true that there haven't been enough chances for Torres?

Why does Torres have a low conversion rate? I proved that with my argument. The likes of Van Persie were enjoying 61 chances at scoring while Torres was being serviced a paltry 18 chances within the same period. This is damning evidence which I expect everyone to have a look at. If not for anything at all, at least for the sake of analysis. Analysis that prove I have been right for a very long time that Torres does not get as many chances as his peers in the league.

Following on with my argument that chances create more opportunities for goals and consequently confidence, (which by the way allows a striker to up the rate of CCCs), I am right to keep on arguing.

However, what's the point? We are never going to agree on this issue. So everyone knows each other's positions. Rather than being unruly and uncouth about the issues, we respect each other's positions and move on.

Did you check the time stamps on the posts?
http://www.eplindex.com/7625/premier-league-strikers-comparison-opta-stats.html

These are for last season at the midway point

As you can see from this link Torres's strike rate is in the region of a washed Drogba,Anelka and another flop like Andy Carroll of this world. Even the much maligned Daniel Sturridge has double Torres's conversion rate. Out of 30 strikers or thereabout he is in the bottom 5
Thank you. This proves my exact point that you don't have any stats to hand. You are basically regurgitating what others say. You are pulling up stats from mid-way last season to firstly prove a whole season's point and secondly to prove this season's point.

Secondly, you are pulling up stats that put "ALL OF CHELSEA's strikers" in the same category and using that same stat to beat "ONLY TORRES". Can you see how silly that is? Even though Anelka and Drogba have more minutes per goal than Torres.

Sturridge did not play as a centre man. As a centre man, the area is more crowded. Sturridge didn't have to make a run for a chance, he was THE CHANCE. He and Mata had more possession of the ball in the final third and that's why you will find conversions ratio for Sturridge higher than Torres' . . To prove my point, what's Kalou's conversion ratio? Where did he play?

However, let me oblige you on this one.
So lastly, you cannot prove this point without the all important index - "NUMBER OF CHANCES CREATED". It is only with this index can we actually conclude on how poor a striker really is. This is where you have provided half baked analysis to prove a weak point.

Let's analyse.

RVP Goal conversion rate - 26%
Number of goal scored - 16.

Do you know what this means? It means that the Arsenal midfield created 61 chances for RVP to get 16 goals.

Torres Goal conversion ratio - 11%
Number of goal scored - 2.

This means that the Chelsea team created 18 chances for Torres to score 2. 18 chances?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's the focus of this big argument once again? The Chelsea midfield does not create enough chances.
And you think I am lying? What's even more silly about your defence is that if we had access to the number of minutes played by each striker, it defines the stats even further. However, I will use the minutes per goal stat.

RVP minutes per goal - 90mins
Torres min per goal - 322mins.

EDIT: My calculations were wrong.

Taking chances created into cognisance, this reveals that Arsenal created 0.67 chances every 90mins for RVP alone. You know what Torres's one is? 0.0559 chances every 322mins or 0.0159 chances for Torres every 90mins.*** And you want Torres to be prolific. You guys have no idea what you are talking about.

You guys have a lot to prove.

***Calculations now correct.

dayokanu: My own question is what did Chelsea midfield do differently yesterday that made Torres score.

Was it the vertical passes that he scored from
If that's the same question that A-40 is asking, then I will answer it in one go.

It was almost written in the stars that Torres will score a goal yesterday.
However that feeling did not come about from yesterday morning.
It started from Benitez's first game and manifested in the West Ham game even though we lost.
The method of attack began to take shape. One vertical quick release by Moses at about the 30 yard line freed Torres on to the right on the 18 and a reverse pass found Mata. (For the sake of analysis, it was in the exact position Sturridge was in the screen shots I was analysing with you the other day. This time Moses passed)

Against Nordsjaelland, the same occurred, as evidenced by Torres' first goal. A well-timed, quick release for Torres that isolated him on goal after a brilliant run. You could see how lively Torres was. It was evident the team was playing to get him scoring and when you make your striker feel that way, they get confidence.

This confidence is what gets them trying other things. Like seizing the initiative to take the penalty. Do you think Torres would have done so had he not 3 goals on the bounce?

This has always been the premise of my posts. Create chances, play to your strikers' strength and they will get goals. When they get goals, they become confident to try other things. Confidence doesn't come before goals. If anything, it's a result of goals.

So do I need to prove any other thing to you? NO! On the contrary, you should prove to me that I am wrong and that the chances have always been created but Torres runs into blind alleys. You have no proof. No single one of you can prove it. Instead, you tell me it's what you see every weekend and I am supposed to buy that?

4llerbuntu: But u keep evading the questions.

Which of the goals was laid on a plate or isolated with the last man like you have been claiming is the only way to get torres to score?

The one that was laid on a plate in d 3rd minute mr torres was far away from it.

Rather he scored goals by doing what critics have said he has not been doing yet u still yarning ur usual opata

Its time to change ur argument again as usual. At least we now have evidence that the only way to score is not via switch back switch front, isolate with last man, lay it on a plate.

Hopefully u wont bring it back when the dud ends his purple patch
I am really struggling to know why you guys are asking me this question. Why should I show you that the goals he's scored were laid on a plate for him? Have I or Coogar said anywhere or any place at all, that the only kind of goals Torres can score are ones were he's "isolated with the last defender"?

You guys love to shift the goal post don't you? Our argument has been consistent and based on the fact that chances need to be created. We've built our argument over the years on the number of chances created per game. Only a few games back, Chelsea created ONLY TWO chances for Torres. Some of you were asking why he didn't score from them? In 2010, 2011, I spent a better part of the season showing pictorial analyses of how many passes were reaching the box which in turns translated to chances. We've maintained one point of view. Just one.

On the contrary, you guys said all this.

1. Torres is overrated
2. Torres is shit
3. Torres is a limited player
4. Torres does not make the right runs
5. The passes have always been there
6. Torres does not attack the ball
7. He has MaZaCar so he should score.

The new ones now are

1. He was never attacking the ball
2. He needed to be confident. Now he's taking penalties.

As though "confidence" is like a box of goodies you can buy at a convenience store. When you create a flurry of chances, your strikers get goals. When they get goals, they become confident. Simple resultant effect. We've always stated that. If anything at all, it's you guys who have always moved the post for convenience because it's easy.

After appointing Rafa, he, just like we have over the years, said that Torres is a brilliant player at playing in between the lines. Those who are close to training will tell you the focus and style of play is now aimed at playing vertically. I have noticed this when we play. However, when I said I see an increase in the number of vertical passes, one of you says ain't nothing changed.

We have spent eternity backing up our claims with empirical and visual data. On the contrary, all you guys do is talk. We are supposed to believe what you say because you have said it. No proof, no back up. If Torres' running into blind alleys is as frequent as night and day, it should not take you long to prove.

BlueDiva: Think about it critically, has anybody ever said anything that wasn't true about Torres?
Give people some credit, when Ramires was a flop we pointed it out, when he started performing he got his praises.
Seriously? Only 2 days ago, OMO-IBO said Torres has got 3 managers fired. You wonder how something like that is left unchallenged by all the astute posters on here. However, anything said is good as long as it is in criticism of Torres. Requesting the names of the managers, he said CA, AVB and RDM. Is this true?

CA who had Anelka, Drogba, Sturridge and Kalou as attacking options got fired because Torres did not perform.
AVB who this time last year the likes of you condemned to the pits of uselessness is now widely accepted to have been fired because of Torres. What a massive swing in opinion.

RDM got fired because we were the first champions in history to go out of the CL in the group stages. Primarily because we conceded 2 goals at the Bridge against Juve. Not particularly because we didn't score.

Taking penalties has stopped being the striker's responsibility for as long as I know it. Suddenly you want to blame Torres for not fighting the pack and claiming pens. Anything to blame Torres.
