all4naija: I still disagree. The suspension is not actually what you would see in a suspension bridge. Even without the ones on IKoyi Bridge most of the bridge can still stand. The pictures posted by Jason123 is a testament to that. The point where the cables are in contact with the bridge just tens of meters away have supports. Take a closer look at the first and last picture by Jason123.No mate. Those pics do not illustrate what you are talking about. To begin with, those pic do not show the platform in place with the pylon. Those pics also do not show the cables in place. Secondly, it is very possible that that support you see between the Pylon and the rest of the deck is just a temporary platform to get the deck over the pylon in place and install the cables. How else do they install it. Before you call it fancy, you need to show us a picture of the deck over the pylon and cables installed. Thirdly, unless you are sitting on a boat right on the side of the Pylon, you are making an error in judgement of distance as a result of optical illusion. The distance between the support on the base of the Pylon and the next support (if it is a true support) is unknown to you. Also the downward force exerted by the weight of the deck and the estimated maximum load applied on the deck (weight of Cars, buses, pedestrians) is also unknown to you. Unless you know the next support is placed at the right spot; which then acts as a counter force for the maximum downward load exertion, you cannot assert that the cables are just fancy. To say that it is, is a clear indication that you do not have any idea about engineering. And I suggest that if you do not know, then refrain from making such comments. Have you asked why the deck on the Pylon is parabolical is shape? Have you asked why there seems to be a hollow in the in the deck approaching the Pylon - a feature not continued over the entire length of the bridge? Have you also asked why the construction seems to be converging at the Pylon end - which seems like the middle? If the Cables were fancy, the whole construction could just be done left to right of right to left, past the Pylon and then they come back for the cables. Since there is, according to you, no load bearing on the pylon, why waste money building the upper part of the pylon with concrete when aluminium will suffice? |
4llerbuntu: ok, but the part i doubt is the wages. dude the kinda wages being paid these days man, i doubt if pple like hulk and hazard will be on less than 100k. but then Drogba's wages alone will offset hulk and half of Hazards.Dude. Mostly, a wage increase is a function of previous wage earned. Are you actually suggesting that Hulk will go to Chelsea for more than quadruple his wages? Your fantasy is bumping beyond known boundaries. You think clubs just throw money around as they please? Not even in the era of FFP. You citing the example of Van Persie is nothing short of ludicrous. VP is probably on 100k hence the insistence on 130? Hazard is 21 and just signed a first professional contract only 5yrs ago . How much do you think he earned at Lille? Why can't Hazard and Hulk be less than 100k? Did you think Mata will sign for less than 100k? After claiming the signings will not see the light of day but the Daily Mail pages and hinging the reasons on FFP, you are here contesting wages. I will be absolutely gob-smacked if their combined wages is more than £160,000 - Hulk and Hazard. |
It's officially. . . Terms have been agreed with Eden Hazard. http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~2797352,00.html Now 4llerubuntu is really going to choke. |
4llerbuntu: has that nucca spewing thrash all over the european football board infected you with his malaise?Alright bros no vex. But na you dey run ya mouth. Your comments made me go hard on you. Like you said, you are not one for financial arguments so why are you having one? FFP allows for a club to make losses of 45m Euros over 2 seasons. Last season Chelsea made £220 in revenue with £65m loss. That's with back-to-back seasons of dropping out in the QF of the CL. This year Chelsea won the CL, total revenue from the CL alone is already in excess of £50m. Estimated revenue post-CL triumph could take total earnings up to £80m, i.e. Sponsorship, TV money, gate revenue from the extra competitions - Super Cup, World Cup Championship. Increased revenue from TV pot for the Premier League clubs. (As winners, we are joint top-earners with Man City). Regarding transfers, players transfer values are never added as a lump figure in any single financial year. Instead, the amount is amortised over the length of the contract. Meaning, £32m for Hazard and £38m for Hulk and £7m will not be added as £77m in the next financial year. For that reason, Chelsea are now signing players on longer contracts - typically 5 years as seen in the length of contracts of Torres, Luiz, Ramires and Mata. So will it be for Hazard, Hulk and Marin. With a longer contract length, the amortised figure is less. So a £32m Hazard signing will show up as just over £6m. The total transfer value of £77m will reflect as just over £15m in the financial year. With the total estimated increased revenue, do you think an amortised figure of £15m will kill us? Portuguese wages are low and heaven knows Hulk may not be more than £30,000 a week. A transfer to Chelsea will double that and still put him in the wage bracket of Mata, Ramires, Luiz, Cahill and I reckon Marin, Hazard will fall in that bracket and in line with the new wage structure being implemented at Chelsea. (Never mind what the media want you to believe about Hazard). So will others who join. Players like KDB will earn much less yet provide a credible amount of work to the team. With the fusion of the youth players like Josh, Kakuta, Bertrand, Hutchinson, the overall wage bill is going anywhere but up. Especially with the release of Drogba, Anelka, Alex, Kalou, Bosingwa and subsequent releases of Malouda, Essien, Lampard and Ferriera. Does it really sound to you as though Chelsea are in any bit of trouble that you paint a picture of being so skint we can't afford to make £30m transfers? With the all important clause in the FFP rule stating that "the club needs to be showing efforts to reduce spending", you were having a hard-on for nothing. Exactly why I cam down hard on you. Bone FFP, Chelsea are in good shape. |
Tony Spike: I'm not a civil engineer. But with my background in engineering design, this type of bridge is called a SUSPENSION BRIDGE. The fulcrum of this type of bridge usually supports the bridge weight via "knotty" steel cables, usually at the center or at 2-3 intervals as the case may require. The array of these cables may form a parabolic shape required for systemic weight distribution. Although this particular design doesn't seem like a complete suspension bridge, because I can see that the horizontal slabs (or span) are also simultaneously supported by columns (piers). So, I could say the weight of the bridge is being supported by both the columns (piers) and suspension cables. From what I see, the cables suspend the weight of the platform (about 100m on either side of the pylon). As far as I can see, this horizontal part is not supported anywhere else. Therefore, the vertical support for this portion is provided by the cables. If look at the pictures in the previous page closely, you'll see the suspension cables were already in place as soon as the platform was installed. If the cables were to break, this platform will collapse. |
I didn't read the other stats. I just read the 'chances created' one. 6 goal scoring chances created - twice more than any English player. Malouda is under contract and unless a club values Malouda more than we do, I doubt he'll be leaving. |
Gary Cahill's been ruled out of the Euros. |
ritchboy: You use tissue for your burst arteries?Come on Man! Do I have to explain this? ![]() Like me saying "Get some glue, you might burst an artery" and you asking if I use glue for my burst arteries. ![]() |
BlueDiva: ^^^Regarding Bosingwa and Kalou, Diva read this. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/9305918/Premier-League-club-by-club-guide-to-released-players.html |
4llerbuntu: building castles and mansions in d air I see.Absolute joker laying the inner thought of his fearful mind bare and hoping that FFP can provide justification for those hallucinations. I bet you can't even explain how FFP affects/doesn't affect transfers. When you see Hazard and Hulk next to the Chelsea club secretary, buy some tissue quickly, you might burst an artery. |
Remember squad rules people. There cannot be more than 17 foreign players in the mandatory 25-man squad. We currently have 13 foreign players with Drogba left and the duo of Kalou and Bosingwa who have been released. We probably will sign Marin, Hazard and Hulk. That makes 16. We have just one more spot left for a foreign player unless we move one of Benayoun, Malouda, Essien and Meireles. I believe we will buy a foreign right back and that will be it. No Dembele and no other CM unless, he's English. Unless I'm wrong and it works the other way round - One foreign CM and no RB/English RB. |
1025: lol, wenger has finally brought shame to himself and family. how can a small boy like RDM be winning these two big trophies and wenger winning zero. i feel like crying in french language now. What's the meaning of this? Bros please stop with all these yarns jare. What do you mean by Wenger has brought shame to his family? |
Lampard out of the Euros. |
Naptu2 Have you very well verified that it is legal for you to do this? |
Welldone NN if they really did this themselves . . . but meh this is a boat! |
I tell you what. I have an idea. While we are changing names of everywhere and everything, why don't we just change Aso Rock to Jonathan Rock? I mean it's just a name-change. |
I like the way you have articulated ur argument but I need serious answers here:Thanks. I hope to do my best. Are you telling me that the students who went on the street yesterday were there because they had all this intellectual analysis and dissections in their head?I do not know. There will be hundreds of Students who possess way better intellectual analysis. The only way to discover though is if the decision followed due process. If it did, we might have had Year 1 students make meaning of it all that gives the 'moral arbiters' a second thought. Do you think the Brits will go on the streets if Oxford or Cambridge is changed to Wiston Churchhill?Trust me dude. Brits love history and tradition. They will lock down the whole of the UK until the name is reversed. Do you how many people love to look down on people and just mention that they went to Oxford for the sake of it? Brits went to the streets when taxes were increased. There were riots, looting and burning down of buildings when a Policeman killed someone in Tottenham. Bikers closed down the M4 (main motorway to Wales) when EU rules threatened the importation of spare parts. Students closed down the whole of Central London and prevented people from going in and out when Universities were allowed to charge the maximum £9000 from £3000. People protest. Because it doesn't make worldwide news does not mean Nigerians are evil for doing the same. Do you really think majority of Nigerians care about the MAU name change? How do you know they don't if you don't ask them? Do you know the reactions have completely rubbished the June 12 legacy? That's a personal opinion. Until you bring people into a forum of discussion, you cannot discern their inner thoughts on/about the the Legacy. Also as the likes of Kobo and Dayo have clearly stated, June 12 had more to do with the fight for democracy than the fight for Abiola. In other words, if Abacha happened to be in the same situation as MKO, the perception would have been the same. Do you know only Nigerians place premium in emptiness like these?Another personal opinion. Lemme break it down to you. People depend on that name - past, present and future. Like my earlier analogy, people are more likely to be employed if they have a degree in Architecture form Cambridge than they are from Westminster even though Westminster in ratings is regarded as the best Uni offering the same course. Why? Prestige. Tradition. History. It's the same for Unilag. The same for all iconic institutions around the world. People attribute a certain of culture to the name. Maybe not because it's the best at what it does but just because of the name. A typical backlash is the Uni receiving less than half it's annual applications thereby losing revenue. Why? Because believe it or not, people want to go there just for the name. Whether that's right it a topic for another day. It's an ICONIC place. You cannot change at will. Do you know how many countries, cities and universities have changed names all around the world since the last 1000 years and still happening?Ofcourse there have been name changes. How Iconic were these places before the changes? That's the more pertinent question. I am priviledged to have done some IT work in a ton of Victorian age buildings here in the UK. As simple as Hotels, that have been built as early as the 14th century, they still stand till date. Many of these buildings are listed buildings, meaning: "They have been placed on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest". These buildings cannot be changed. They are protected by law. Except for safety fittings - like fire alarms, cameras. You cannot change anything regarding the outside walls of the buildings. The external walls are the exact same walls from the 16th century. Some of them have joists, columns, windows, doors, frameworks, pictures, even a wall-framed picture of a newspaper all from the 1600s. Don't tell me this is rubbish. You need to pay particular attention what is historical and Iconic and protect it with all you have. It defines a state, it defines a country, it defines a people. PS.I never went to Unilag neither did any member of my family. |
Beaf: Incandescent bulbs should be banned. Thats similar to whats happening in developed countries. You are congratulating a President for "launching a light bulb" . . Is this how low we have sunk? |
edicolove: It is nothing new really. The SW has always been known to betray even their own for a morsel of gbegiri. See how they have rubbished Abiola and June 12 for ever. The legacy wiped out in just 24 hours. What they do not realise however is that they are the real loosers here. Mark this day in history because we will make reference to it.This has nothing to do with region, hero and what not but to do with 'brand and history'. You cannot claim that Abiola to the SW is biiger than Winston Churchill to Britain. What reaction do you think will emanate out of a knee-jerk action to rename Oxford or Cambridge University to the Wisnton Churchill University? That's exactly what GEJ is doing here. Please note that I am not drawing any sort of parallels between Oxford and Unilag, I am just painting a picture of relative importance. What happens if the the next government decides to change the name to Bola Tinubu University? And then the one after changes it again. That's anarchy. In order to forestall such, due process must be pursued. Iconic Institutions, their traditions and history must be protected and exempt from radical changes. Because people past and present identify with the brand, you cannot leave changes like these to the perceived interest of a powerful. It's wrong. PS: I never went to UNILAG and no member of my family did. |
Ibime: My recommendation (bench Torres) already won us the Champions League!Hehehe. So we won the CL because we benched Torres right? Funny! If I remember correctly, we won the CL because we equalised on 88 mins. Torres came in and seemed to provide the only meaningful attack in the whole game and in the process helped win a corner-kick. That corner scored us the goal that kept us in the tie. You know what was unique about that corner-kick? It was the 'only one' we had in the game. 2nd goal against Barca - that calmed our nerves and made sure Barcelona were all but out? -------------------------------------------------- I quite understand when folks get into arguments about how well Torres has done all season. However, to suggest that we won the CL 'primarily' because he was benched? Perspective guys, Perspective! |
I read the Torres report as well when it broke. At this point though, there isn't a lot of mistakes you can claim Emenalo has made. Stop following these low-lives who always like to act like they are in the know. How do you know tat Chelsea don't know their manager yet.? Because you and I don't know does not mean the Manager is not somewhere planning his team and tactics for next season. Hazard, Marin and Hulk are not tiki-taka players. They are all vertical moving, counter attcking players. Only Mata fits the bill of a tiki-taka player. That said, we've all seen how Mata fit last season perfectly into counter-attackiing instances. KdB is not a tiki-taka player. Neither is Ramires. We are being linked with Andre Schurrie and he isn't either. Lampard isn't Danny isn't . So to claim that Emenalo is trying to build a tiki-taka team is highly inaccurate. If we wanted to, we'll go tempt Alcantara, Sergi Roberto, Llorente instead to join their spanish conterpart. |
Ibime: So he bought Hazard, Marin and Mata to "defend on the halfway line whilst waiting for opportunity to put Torres clear through"?Why do you believe the story anyway? You need to stop this glorifying these idiots that assume everything and just write to sell stories. You cannot just swallow hook, line and sinker. It's the flipping Daily Mail for pete's sake. The writer is talking a tactic he heard about in Chelsea now "empty" training ground. A tactic that intends to integrate the likes of "Hazard" whose only affiliation to Chelsea at this moment is via a single sentence on Twitter and "Marin" who is yet to be unveiled by the club as a signing. Then you go on and abuse your own people. Exactly what they want you to do. Emenalo may not be a high profile technical instructor/analyst, he may not look and talk the part, he also may not be as stupid as you always make him out to be. There's a reason why he heads the Chelsea world-wide scouting network. |
Good points raised about strikers playing with their backs to goal. That exactly is why I believe we are signing the likes of Hulk and perhaps keeping Lukaku. If Emenalo and the technical team was not thinking about options of play, we won't be signing the likes of Lukaku and Bamford who are, although not proven yet, able to play with their back to goal. With that, we still buy the smallish ilk of Islam Feruz. Let's not also forget that even Sturridge, if he can get his acts together can play CF. I really believe they are doing a good job. We are not doing away with strength hence why the likes of Malouda, Essien and Ramires and being held on to. We might need to grind out a result at some point. Throw Ramires on the right, Malouda on the left and Lukaku in the middle. Football will be very ugly but we could get a result. Also I do not believe Hazard is weak. |
Ibime: Abeg. . . Mirallas is Odemwingie's junior at LilleNot when you have a midfield and forward line that includes Mata, Hulk, Hazard, Marin, Torres, Lukaku. I am not the dispelling the tactical importance of a target man however, if the tactical set-up is right, the team can score an unprecedented amount of goals from corner-kicks, free kicks, penalties (because they keep forcing defenders into errors in the box), long range shots. With the right type of players, it's very possible. Now a target man, I very much will want. If you ask me, I will approach Atleti and attempt a Torres swap + £20m for Falcao. However, I will prefer my team to have the capabilities of setting up and winning without a target man - we'll become tactically unpredictable as anyone can play anywhere. That said, one thing I tried to explain about players being able to play different roles means that Hulk can play across the front line. ulk can play as a target man and I believe it's one of the reasons we are buying him. My point is, it will cost a lot of money (if we cannot offload Torres) to buy a striker that can adequately replace Drogba. For FFP sake, after shelling money out on Hazard, Hulk, possibly a RB and another CM, it'll cost a fortune trying to find a striker. We are building a team that 'could' increase the number of chance created by up to 3 times. Torres will find his feet. If not, Lukaku will. If not, Hulk will and there's still Patrick Bamford who can do a job. I do not believe there is a pressing need to buy a target man. -------------------------------------------- Regarding Mirallas, mate, just confess you have not been following him at Olympiakos. Plus I have asked him to replace Kalou not to come and create all the chances. He's definitely head and shoulders above Kalou. |
Since we are in the business of singing Belgians, I am hoping we can sign Kevin Mirallas as a replacement for Kalou. |
dare2think: Dont really like his childish antics, it makes me really wonder if he has a strong, mature mental capabilities!I quite like the idea of Sturridge having things to worry about. Danny is a very talented player I will not want to let the opposition have. To have Danny worried is to have him fired up. I love talented fired up players. More importantly, I like the fact that our forward line is really evolving. Marin, Mata, Hazard, Hulk (possibly), Sturridge, Torres, Kakuta, are all technically sound players that can all play more than two positions across the forward line. Tactical flexibility. The next manager has no excuse. |
afrodoc: and pls u guys should recall josh Mc,better for him not to make d bench in chelsea than for him nt to make d bench in swansea.I believe he will not be sent out on loan again. Romeu, Josh, Meireles, Benayoun may have huge roles to play next season. Depending on the manager of course. |
afrodoc: also on soccernet.at least he was truthful abt d team being in blue while jerking everybody around.so it remains hulk now abi?Yep! Hulk to follow. I believe there will be two more signings - One CM and perhaps one RB. And we'll be ready for the challenge. |
Get In!!!!!!!! Welcome Eden. |
BlueDiva: @nateevsThe Academy is taking a new turn next season. Chelsea have signed up for the U19 next-gen series commencing next season. It's the European CL replica except for the youth players. The Idea is to keep young players at their clubs and promote their chances of getting first team appearances. The clubs have the opportunity to keep the players and culture a system that permeates through the academies. As such, the system doesn't seem alien to young players if/when they are called up to deputise for first team players. As part of the agreement, the club will play some of their home games in the home stadium with capacity crowd. The is in an attempt to simulate fans' atmosphere and pressure. A limited number of overage players will be able to join them. On the local front, the U18 and U21 leagues will kick off from next season. This is in a drive to keep and groom young players, and promote the competitive edge clubs usually hope players get when they go out on loan. Many times it stunts the development of a kid as they may not be used at the loan club, which could affect their confidence/athleticism after being out for a while. Many kids never recover form it. Others are stunted by the tidal wave of different styles and tactics and formulae thrown at them by different loan clubs they go to. e.g Bertrand, Van Aanholt, Kakuta. I leaning on the side of this having a positive effect. I am excited to see what this brings. I do have a feeling that this will increase the chances of young players breaking into the first team. I will be attending a lot of youth games next season to see for myself. |
BlueDiva: Ok. Wasn't sure if it was a 2year deal.As Afrodoc stated Diva, DeBryune's loan move is ended and is set to join up with the squad in the summer. However, he is currently injured and is set to miss pre-season. Meanwhile Ulises Davilla is also back but I reckon he will be back on loan as well and he's got work permit issues. As to why he got so few games, the manager of Vitesse explained that Davilla is a strong technical but classic No 10 player who definitely did not fit into the system he wanted to play. This is the same team Tomas Kalas has had a very impressive spell. At 18, he's a confirmed start in their CB pairing. |
coogar: but chelsea need this dude more than united/city.To be honest, I have the feeling it's going to happen. The links are very strong and they all point to Chelsea 'only' especially Hulk. However, this coming season, I am more interested in the players who could step in should those four not be available for any reason. In previous seasons, we not been bad because of the first team, but the steep decline in quality of the backup players. The best I can come up with for now is ------Lukaku------ Marin DeBryune Sturridge Lampard Mikel in a 4-2-3-1 line up. Now that's not a bad line up if our first team attack line is out. I just have not seen DeBryune play in the hole. However, in a typical 4-3-3, then we can line up like, Marin/Kakuta---Lukaku---Sturridge De Bryune/Josh--- ----Lampard/Ramires -------Mikel------- Not frightening by any means. No experienced presence up front. Exactly why we need a manager who can bring the best out of relatively young players and still sustain. Unless something changes. It's going to be a busy season with 7 trophies up for grabs and we need that squad. Back to the main point though, ------torres----- -hazard-mata-hulk Eledumare, this will send fears down the spine of any manager. |
