Politics / Re: BREAKING : Niger Delta Avengers Blow Up Agip Oil Line This Morning by NavierStokes(m): 11:44am On Jun 10, 2016 |
Built2last: A friend and I had this morning explored the Iran angle, my leanings as from the onset has been tending towards that and each attack makes it clearer. Government will not unmask/ triangulate any IP address as suggested by some. Their press releases seem like translated texts, they call the technical names of assets/facilities rather than locations and then wrongly spell the local names of these facilities, the bolded seems trivial but to me is the biggest pointer to something being run from outside. Truth is the government doesn't yet know what it is up against, the oil companies have less than 10% of their production in Nigeria and will benefit greatly from rise in crude out there, Iran will increase her market share to pre sanction levels while settling scores with Nigeria and her Islamic coalition aspirations or ambitions. Government should as a matter of urgency get the locals on their side by going the way of fiscal federalism. Negotiations will not work at the moment because no body knows who these guys are, even the accused tompolo, mend general Africa and co are bewildered at the level these new kids are operating. Nigeria has everything to gain, these boys have virtually nothing to lose. It's not enough for government to brandish an unfortunate electrician with wires and battery as an avenger coordinator. Government can roll out their tanks to decimate communities, but truth is I doubt even the communities understand what is happening currently. Government doesn't understand so why should the common fisherman then understand what the powerful government doesn't understand. Mankind amazes me, they struggle over tasks with even the most simple solutions. Maybe we will all drown in this one, and the few survivors will then think in retrospect how stupid every one was at the time. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Built2last:Yes my brother, I have studied their mode of writing which sometimes seems like a translated text. This thing obviously doesn't originate from here, just as an example them calling the Agip line obi obi is something i doubt any one conversant with Niger Delta oil and gas business will do. OB/OB this is apart from so many obvious errors in nonmenclature I see on their tweets. Points to one and only one thing, the perpetrators are on ground, the tweets are arranged by someone possibly elsewhere or a foreigner on ground as well. Let's see how things go, but right now it's really messy, I think the boys are beginning with the soft targets and government should do something before they move offshore. Because imagine having an explosion on an FPSO that will be a disaster, unlIke land that can be easily contained with almost zero loss of lives. Government act now, anything that makes these boys leave onshore and swamp to offshore becomes a global disaster. 2 Likes |

Can agip withstand this? I see mass redundancies. With tebidaba cloughcreek brass out Now obiafu obrikom to brass also out . That's zero production for Agip. Avengers at this point "I take God name beg ona, na bayelsa plenty pass for Agip thats mass sacking of your brothers oh". Please give government time to respond to your requests and please come down from your high ground, let's try fiscal federalism and see how it works, keep sovereignty for another day pls. I believe I speak on behalf of all reasonable people.because as it stands now the oil companies have a lot to gain from rise in prices in the intl market, since I doubt anyone of them makes 15% of their global production from Nigeria. They obviously have nothing to lose but everything to gain from rising prices in the market. 26 Likes 3 Shares |

Good move and a welcome development. For those who brand everyone that criticizes the govt as "wailers". Where the government does what's good or makes good appointments, they will be applauded by all because it will be evident for all to see. The opposite scenario is where you have Gray areas or ambiguous policies or policies with possible adverse effect, then be sure to get criticisms or "wailings". This man has proved himself worthy of the office and it's a case of a round peg in a round hole. Congratulations on your appointment Sir and please start working on at least a 5- 10 years plan for Nigeria rather than the year on year rolling wave plans we have been used to. 51 Likes 3 Shares |

blackpanda: And hasn't the system been running since members of the last set were recalled? At a time of economic gloom such as this which obviously is an emergency, I think making appointments such as this is the last thing the hungry man I see everyday, wants to hear. Whichever way we try to argue it doesn't take away the fact that the timing of the appointments is insensitive considering what the country is going through, or did the president just realize he needed to have representations out there? |

DTaj: You must be the most unwise person to ever be on this forum, ever heard of sensitive decisions?, things should be done at the right time, most of the missions had their ambassadors recalled a long time ago, have the missions not been running? It's a good thing being done at a very bad time my friend, a time all hands should be on deck to get our economy moving is the best time in your "wise" opinion to deliberate on this silly issue. Just take a look at yourself again and see the definition of what uou called me. |

Goke7: At the bolded part of my statement, I am sure you saw the word "relative", like I said boko haram had relatively little effect on the economy, every one was going about their activities and crying for the loss of lives, right now bro the effects of these guys is yet to be felt, cos the reduced production when not available for export in the coming months will see our forex reserves dropping much further, deficits biting deeper, military spending increased etc. Allow fiscal federalism and see each unit becime more efficient, in the areas they possess comparative and absolute advantages. Each state can focus on what she does best and overall efficiency increases with more returns to the centre. I am not surprised that the opposite is the case because MEDIOCRITY ALWAYS FEARS COMPETITION. 2 Likes |
Politics / Re: Foreign Refineries To Stop Buying Nigeria’s Crude Oil Due To NDA Attacks by NavierStokes(m): 12:34pm On Jun 09, 2016 |
Goke7: Boko haram was strategic? What is my learned friend drinking , and may I have a little of that pls? Boko haram has waged a war for several years with relatively no effect on the economy, these boys are striking at the very core of the economy. We all wish it never came to this, I mean destruction of assets. But I put it to you that you are already aware that no form of deliberations in this national assembly will bring about the desired outcome. How many south south legislators are there, even with their minority numbers INEC has seen to most of them being indefinitely out of the chamber by refusing to recognize or reconduct their elections. Machiavelli says the end justifies the means so the government can chose to do the right thing which everyone agrees is best of they can chose to make every one suffer like they didwith the currency since lAst year only to change their mind later. No one defeats an idea whose time has come and you can never defeat an idea with force, but with a superior idea. The way I see it these boys have time like the government and have carefully prepared for this in the years of peace, while government was expanding her armoury on boko haram. 2 Likes |

"Manufacturing" more political appointees to drain the little change we have left in the system. This government has a very good knack for "majoring" in minor issues and "minoring" in major issues. 16 Likes 1 Share |

Goke7: That is not true, there are various groups in the struggle at the moment, Avengers are not in talks with anybody and they have said it " if the government is negotiating with anyone, they are on their own". That corruption statement is highly laughable, if it did happen I see it as some politicians who view this as a golden opportunity to do some bargaining. My colleagues and friends from the onset have said these boys want to be settled but the way this appears it's bigger than we all can see, cos of they were after some pounds or dollars they will not cause damages to this extent. I strongly believe that if government dangles fiscal federalism before them, they can come down from the high ground of "sovereignty". If you will be honest with yourself, these boys are nothing like we have ever seen almost the world over. All their hits have been strategic, imagine one hit taking out all of agips swamp area production, one hit taking out eroton, aiteo, newcross and energia's productions. The government can keep living a lie but I think at this point even tompolo and mend both understand and agree that there is a new kid on the block. 5 Likes |

I was singing here on nairaland since June of last year. Clean-up exercise amounts to 1 billion dollars within the first 5 years , the NNPCs share of that is 550 million dollars, where is the loss making NNPC or FG going to get that amount from. The oil companies have always been ready with their share, the government rather chose to play politics with this exercise leveraging on the very long projected timescale of the exercise (30 years). Below is a recent quote: NavierStokes: Well, at the bolded, the IOCs obviously decided to not succumb to this dangerous dimension of propaganda and politics being played by this government for political points. Every well meaning Nigerian should appreciate them, rather than the zombies above me who are trying to pass on the blame to the western world. 33 Likes 2 Shares |

druboon404: I am just a compassionate Nigerian a Nigerdeltan though who as things would have it, has been exposed to those communities and their plights, it's not a good thing to behold (i mean the conditions in those communities). I also think some of us on here in nairaland have this mentality of "us against them", we all want a country that works, Is just and fair to her citizens, we may have different views though but then there is always that beauty in "intellectual and ideological" diversity. Ps: just a quick one, ever been in the delta region? |
