Beaf: The origin of the term, core-North is common knowledge, so it seems a bit strange when you argue about a name the Hausa-Fulani gave themselves. They got upset that Obj was giving top posts to Middle Belters and confronted him about marginalisation of the North; Obj simply pointed at the Middle Belters as Northerners in top positions. The Hausa-Fulani then introduced the term, "core-Northerner" as a distinction.
Beaf, stop spreading lies all over NL. Provide a link or some other proof to substantiate your cliam that the Hausa-Fulani gave themselves the name "core-North" or forever shatap and stop making the claim. It is not enough to pass falsities as facts in a dumb attempt to influence gullible people. The OP may be absolutely correct in his/her assertion that Rochas "sells Adapalm to himself". Indeed the Roche Group is a well known company with its tentacles in several countries in Africa including Uganda. The problem is, Roche Group is an Irish company that operates in many sectors from construction and property investment, hospitality and retail, health and fitness to motor sport and related activities. This company has never undertaken any agricultural project.

On its face, this deal is very suspicious. Rochas owes the people of Imo an explanation as to what is prudent about not selling Adapalm to a well establisted agricultural company. I smell a rat!

Based on my conversations with business partners in the North, East, West, and South; conversations with youths from the same areas, who reside in Nigeria, I can conclusively state that a vast majority of them have no interest whatsoever in breaking up this great country. The idea of going our separate ways is one which is romanticized primarily by diaspora residents who have no financial interest or any compelling interest whatsoever in our great country.

These people can rot in diaspora for all we care. As for the rest of us, we shall build a great Nigeria, with or without them.

@IVY-Nerd, I hate to break your heart, but your post above concerns dual citizens.  Some legal minds, possibly including some members of the Nigerian supreme court believe that you lose your Nigerian citizenship when you publicly renounce the same, under oath, in the presence of a judge, while aquiring the citizenship of the USA.

This issue is yet to be settled by the supreme court or any other Nigerian court, for that matter.

Frankly, all traitors who renounce the citizenship of our dear country should be deported immediately. awon olodo.   cheesy

Lete just wait for the supreme court to rule on the issue, hopefully, through Akala's case.  It seems to me as if if you go in front of a judge and declare under oath, and in the presence of a judge, that you renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to Nigeria, you don't deserve to hold any elective office in Nigeria ( but its only an opinion).

@layifioren. No offense, I simply do not believe your story. Is there any way you can prove that you renounced your Nigerian citizenship as stated above?

I don't want us to digress from the original post so this will be the last time I'll post about this. Just remember this, there is more to renouncing one's foreign citizenship than what you quoted earlier. I'll also put it this way, the oath is just a check list. How is it possible for someone to renounce their citizenship at a naturalization ceremony and then go back home with their foriegn passport? Like I said, they (US government) really don't care about dual citizenship as long as it doesn't affect your allegiance to the US
You asked: How is it possible for someone to renounce their citizenship at a naturalization ceremony and then go back home with their foriegn passport? The answer is because of lack of enforcement of laws.  This is not an issue of whether the US government cares about dual citizenship, but an issue of whether the Nigerian supreme court will not recognize the renounciation of Nigerian citizenship as done in a sworn oath, in the presence of a judge, as part of US naturalization process. Time will tell.

BTW, if you are already a dual citizen in the USA, there is a separate and elaborate process of renouncing your citizenship of any country. This is not what we are talking about here.

Look up the law:  8 C.F.R. Part 337 (2008) .

@layifioren. The oath speaks for itself. You are required to take this oath before becoming naturalized citizen, its the last thing you do before a judge "welcomes you to america" My own view is that, the Nigerian supreme court is yet to rule on the matter and to claim that one knows which way the ruling will go is foolhardy.

That right there is a false statement. The only time you have to renounce your citizenship in the US is if you're trying to get a Security Clearance. They (The US government) really don't care much about that as long as your other country of citizenship allows you and also as long as it does not affect your allegiance to the US.
Fact: There are millions of naturalized Nigerians that are dual citizens. Look it up
There is no falsity in my previous post. Most people are not aware of the contents of the oath of allegiance that must be taken by all immigrants who wish to become United States citizens. They take the oath at the last minute when they are too excited to change their minds. Once again the supreme court of Nigeria is yet to rule on the matter. I reproduce the United states Oath of Allegiance below:

The current oath is as follows:
I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God

@IVY-Nerd, things are not exactly in black and white as they seem to you. Keep in mind that one of the requirements of naturalization in the USA is the renunciation of the citizenship of Nigeria, if u are a Nigerian citizen? Since Ajimobi runounced his Nigerian citiizenship before becoming a US citizen, I wouldn't say with the kind of certainty you exude, that the supreme court will rule against Akala. If Ajimobi were the citizen of another country which does not require renunciation, then I may agree with you.

The real question is will the Nigerian Supreme court recognize the renunciation of Nigerian citizenship which is part of the US naturalization ceremony? Note that A Nigerian born in the USA to Nigerian parents has dual citizenship without the requirement of renunciation. I'm sure Ajimobi does not fall in this category. Time will tell sha.

Militants Burn The Nation Newspaper's Van

Mark my words Tinubu will deal with these thugs shortly.  Thug kuku pass thug.  I don't believe mama Awo has anything to do with this, this one is pure thuggery  lipsrsealed

Suspected militants, yesterday morning, in Mbiama, a boundary town between Bayelsa and Rivers states, which is the hub of oil bunkering, burnt a van belonging to Vintage Press Limited, publishers of The Nation, report BISI OLANIYI and ISAAC OMBE

The scene: Mbiama, a boundary town between Bayelsa and Rivers states. Solomon Amajuoyi, a driver with Vintage Press Limited, publishers of The Nation, arrived in the town regarded as a hub of illegal oil bunkering. He is not strange to the area. The time was 4.30am. But, unknown to him, there was trouble.  The first inkling he got was when he heard someone say: “This is one of the newspapers carrying the stories and not supporting us.”

Before he knew it, they descended on him. Minutes later, the Toyota Hilux van with which he was conveying yesterday’s edition of The Nation, Sporting Life and this week’s edition of The News, was set ablaze.

The Hilux van, with registration number XR 264 LND, was first used by the protesting militants to block the East-West Road, obstructing traffic on the road, currently being dualised by the Federal Government, through Setraco Construction Company.

Amajuoyi said the militants collected his N10,500, mobile telephone handset, a pair of sandals, his identity card and the vehicle’s key. A good Samaritan gave him N500 with which he paid his fare to Port Harcourt.

He said: “I have been hearing of militants; that was my first time of seeing them in action. They carried more sophisticated guns, which they were shooting sporadically at Mbiama Junction and the mobile policemen at the nearby check point ran away.”

He added: “I am alive by the grace of God. I am from Abia State and the head of my family. I have been driving The Nation vehicle since 2008 and going to Calabar. I started moving to Yenagoa and Warri route in the last one month.

“I got to Mbiama Junction around 4:30 am and I wanted to drop the parcels going to Yenagoa at the junction as usual, before moving to Warri. I saw a group of boys. So many of them with guns, machetes and other dangerous weapons. As I alighted, they rushed at the vehicle and used stones to break the windscreen and side glasses, when they saw The Nation on both sides.

“The boys were saying ‘this is one of the newspapers criticising and not supporting’ them, declaring that they would burn the vehicle, and me with the newspapers and The News magazine. They ordered me to return to the vehicle, but I refused and they started beating me with sticks and other items.

“As I was escaping into the bush, I saw the boys pouring petrol from a  20-litre can onto the vehicle and its contents. The Toyota Hilux was then driven by one of the youths to block the East-West Road before setting it ablaze.

“I continued to run in the bush, in case they might be pursuing me, because I overheard some of the boys saying ‘where is the driver?’ and asking me to come back and pick my phone, money, ID card and sandals, but I saw it as a ploy to push me into the burning vehicle and I kept running.”

Soldiers in two Toyota Hilux vans later came to disperse the boys. As the soldiers were shooting into the air, the boys were running into the bush, shooting at the military men, who had superior fire power.

The driver said: “Somebody gave me N500 for transport to Port Harcourt when I narrated my ordeal. I paid N400 to Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt and N100 for intra-city transportation to the office at Mile 1, Diobu. If the company replaces the burnt vehicle, I will not be discouraged and I will still continue to drive on the route. I take what happened as one of the hazards of the job.”

The spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt.-Col. Timothy Antigha, confirmed the incident and said the situation was under control, with soldiers at the scene since 2 am.

Lt.-Col. Antigha also described the protesters as a “bunch of criminals”, whom he said were not part of the authentic ex-militants. He said some of the repentant militants, who recently protested at the same spot, disowned the “self-acclaimed” former warlords and were even stoning them.

An ex-militant group, known as the “Third Phase” of the Federal Amnesty programme, Bayelsa State chapter, has condemned the action of the ex-militants against The Nation.

The group’s Secretary-General, Mr. Tonye Bobo, in a statement, said: “We condemn the riot by some ex-militant agitators on the East/West Mbiama road earlier this morning.

“We call for immediate halt to this wanton destruction of property.

“The third phase of the Federal Amnesty Programme has embraced the non-violence approach to achieve our goals for proper documentation and training.”

But  the Amnesty Committee said it was not aware of the Third Phase. In a statement by its Head, Media and Communications, Mr. Henry Ugbolue, said: “Closure has since been achieved in the disarmament and demobilisation phases of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme. A total of 26,358 persons (in two phases) accepted the offer of amnesty at the expiration of the stipulated deadline.

“Given that the clamour for the expansion of the Programme to admit more persons is a distraction that could do immense harm to the Programme, Kuku is urging champions of this cause to desist.”

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy Nathan Egba condemned the perpetrators.

He said: “The  Bayelsa State government wishes to condemn the attack on the circulation van belonging to The Nation by some  unidentified  persons around Mbiama, who accused the paper  of supporting Governor Sylva… Having failed  in their expectations of a negative Supreme Court judgment  before the party primaries  and their hopes of the governor not being cleared at the screening also dashed, these people now seem to have  resorted to violence as we saw  at the PDP Secretariat in Abuja and now the burning of a private  newspaper’s vehicle.”

Kaduna state issues N8.5 billion debut bond

Chijioke Ohuocha
September 6, 2010 05:05PM

Kaduna State said on Monday it had issued a debut 8.5 billion naira bond to help finance infrastructure projects, the first tranche of a 15 billion naira fund-raising programme.

Kaduna, the seventh state to announce bond issuance plans in recent months, said in a newspaper advert that the debt would mature in 2015 and would have a coupon of 12.5 percent.

It said the proceeds of the bond sales would be used to develop a regional water plant, construct a 200-bed specialist hospital, build roads and a new government office complex.

Credit rating agency Fitch in September gave Kaduna a long-term foreign and local currency ratings of 'B+' and a national long-term rating of 'A+(nga)'.

Fitch said the ratings reflected Kaduna's growing tax base and an investment programme in infrastructure, particularly the power sector, which could unlock economic potential.

Local credit rating agency Agusto & Co rates Kaduna 'Bbb-' and the bond 'A+'.

Several of Nigeria's 36 states have said they plan to tap the bond market to take advantage of excess liquidity in the system and low yields for financing long-term projects.

Money markets in sub-Saharan Africa's second-biggest economy have remained liquid, keeping interbank lending rates flat at almost 1 percent for about a month as funds from government revenue disbursals keep markets awash with cash, and driving surplus funds to bonds in search of higher yields.

Nigeria removed all taxes and cut transaction fees for sub-national and corporate bonds in March, further spurring interest in the fledgling debt market.

I disagreed with him then. I don't know if I still disagree. Maybe you may have some points. But my fear is that in the history of Nigeria, Northern army officers never led any truly national uprising. They only rose up to restore the evil status quo ante -Northern hegemony- at each turn. So, I wonder what you have to say about that.
@ndu_chucks,
So, can a Northern led coup for instance install an Igbo as president, like the Jan '66 coup plotters wanted to install Awolowo?
We know that the best Nigerian human resources are in the South.
I’d suggest that you take GenBuhari’s advise very seriously – your tribalism and bigotry is doing more damage to your brain than you realize.
I made a very obvious point but you decided to ignore the accuracy of my statement but decided to introduce tribalism into your analysis. This is why you have become incapable of seeing reason. For your information, I’d welcome any leader who would lead the fight to rid us of the said “owners” of Nigeria with open arms regardless of his tribe. To your question about installing an Igbo as president, my answer is why not, if he/she is qualified and detribalized enough to move us forward. Such an Igbo person could probably be found with deep roots in the West or North. I’m afraid that by definition, those of you who grew up solely in the East and who lack a broad horizon, are out of the question. The Presidency is not a head hunting affair.

Gov Okorocha Sponsors 60 Imo Students To Us - A Waste Of Our Resources

I hope someone can enlighten me about the benefits of this exchange program. I did a mental benefit cost analysis and reached the conclusion that Okorocha’s program is another waste of government revenue and possibly another scheme to enrich the program directors and others.

Okorocha’s people claim that it will create employment opportunities for them after the duration of the internship as the state hopes to attract some foreign investors through the scheme!  WTF kind of foreign investment will an exchange program which sends 60 students to Maryland for 6 month’s generate?

I don’t believe the government should be wasting our money in this manner.  Okorocha should have partnered with the private sector and found sponsors among them for the students instead of wasting state resources in this manner. Many able Imolites live in Maryland and are more than willing to sponsor students for 6 months – did Okorocha reach out to them? I think not.  duk barawo ne.

Sixty students from Imo state are billed to travel to the United States on a six-month internship programme next February. The Special Assistant to Imo State Governor on Youths’ Affairs, Nwabueze Henry, stated this in Abuja weekend while addressing newsmen.

He said the 60 successful candidates would be selected after the ongoing screening of the over 1000 applicants. It is part of Governor Okorocha’s Overseas’ Student Exchange Programme Initiative in the state. It is being done in conjunction with an international organisation, Centre for Energy Environmental Engineering, University of Maryland, USA.

“These youths were selected from Imo state higher institutions. While in the US, each will receive $7,000 as pocket expenses through their training. It will expose them to students from other countries. It is hoped that it will create employment opportunities for them after the duration of the internship as the state hopes to attract some foreign investors through the scheme. The next batch will be Imo state higher institution lecturers,” he said.

According to him, the beneficiaries were selected through the recommendation of their respective institutions based on their academic records.
