@Katsumoto,  Look up the law:  8 C.F.R. Part 337 (2008) .

The oath below speaks for itself . You are required to take this oath before becoming naturalized U.S. citizen, its the last thing you do before a judge "welcomes you to America

The current oath is as follows:
I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God

abi you be US citizen ni? This issue has been flogged to death in the past. Call it a lie if you wish, but I'll say that it is wise note that if you state under oath in a foreign land that you entirely renounce and abjure all allegiances  to Nigeria, under any condition, you should not be allowed to contest for any ofiice in Nigeria.

pokur: A case was raised by the Oyo PDP and has been dismissed as incompetent by the tribunal as there are already decided cases by superior courts on this issue as far back as 2004.
In all honesty, you people need to stop this kind of irresponsible pronouncements. Your assertion above is totally false. The case against Ajimomi is not yet over and will be heard again on appeal. The tribunal who dismissed the case did not in any way state that Ajimobi's dual citizenship does not disqualify him from contesting.

The PDP had claimed that the Ajimobi was ineligible to stand for elections having voluntarily acquired the citizenship of the United States of America - an act which required renunciation of his nigerian citizenship.

Ajimobi's counsel had however averred that his client was living in Nigeria and had not relinquished his Nigerian citizenship as of the time he won the election.

The Tribunal noted that the PDP who are the petitioners in the matter relied on documents from the American Embassy in Nigeria, a page on the respondent’s international passport and his social security number.

While reading the ruling, Justice Pindiga pointed out that it is one of the principles of law that averment is not evidence. He stated that despite the fact that the burden of proving the case was on the petitioner, the documents needed to support the claims made (Ajimobi's dual citizenship)were never produced

The story will change on appeal when Akala produces adequate evidence of Ajimobi's US citizenship. Lets wait and see

I am not convinced that this story is accurate. Given current political climate in the USA, it is practically impossible to deploy US troops anywhere in the world, as stated in the story, without the reporting of the event in major news outlets.

If the story turns out to be true, only one body bag from Nigeria will ensure that Obama does not get a second term. Methinks Obama is not insane enough to take such a risk.
Politics › Appeal Court Orders Fresh Trial Of Akunyili’s Petition Against Ngige by nduchucks(op): 4:41am On Nov 17, 2011
hmmm, by the time they finish litigating this issue, Ngige would have spent 5 years in office and Dora will be starting her own term. awon olodo

THE Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu Wednesday ordered fresh trial of the petition filed by the former minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili against the election of Dr Chris Ngige as Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District.

Ruling on the appeal filed by Professor Akunyili, Justice Bode Lokulo-Sodipe said that the lower tribunal at Awka was wrong in its decision in favour of Ngige.

He said that the decision of the tribunal to strike out the case based on inter-locutory applications especially based on none filing of form TF 008  was not in the interest of justice.

The appellate court ruled that Akunyili’s appeal had merit ordering that  the matter should be returned to the election tribunal for retrial to determine the actual winner of the April 2011 Senatorial poll in Anambra Central.

The Anambra State Election Petition Tribunal had struck out the petition of the former Information  Minister in which she alleged irregularities in the repeat senatorial election held in the area in April this year.

Akunyili had gone to the tribunal shortly after the controversial election to challenge the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC arguing that she won the senatorial seat and not Dr Ngige of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN who was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

But the chairman of the lower tribunal, Justice Onajite Kuejibola struck out the case for none filing of form TF 008 and alleged forgery of same document when the issue was raised by the respondent.

Following the ruling Akunyili in conjunction with the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA headed to the Court of Appeal which yesterday upturned the earlier decision of the tribunal.

Politics › BHaram:Peace Talks Initiator Gets Death Threats-Reveals Why Dialogue Is Stalled by nduchucks(op): 2:37pm On Nov 12, 2011
This is quite interesting:

The man who facilitated the September peace talks between a   faction of the Boko Haram sect and former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been receiving death threats from unknown persons who are opposed to any such dialogue.

The representative of the pro-dialogue faction, Baba Kura Fugu, who received Chief Obasanjo in his Maiduguri residence on Thursday, September 15 for the talks was shot dead 48 hours after by the opposing faction.

The peace talks have since been on hold with members of the sect launching co-ordinated bomb and gun attacks in Maiduguri, Damaturu and Potiskum, penultimate Friday. About 150 lives were lost in the mayhem.

But now, Kaduna-based civil rights activist, Malam Shehu Sani, says the country would have been spared this agony if the Federal Government had agreed to  negotiate with the sect after the Maiduguri talks.

Speaking to The Nation, Mallam Sani said: “When we came back from Maiduguri after meeting with the Boko Haram family and they gave   some suggestions and ideas on the way out of this crisis, I believe that the former President took their demands to the government and I suspect that his suggestions were received, but obviously not honoured.

“I believe that there are two forces battling to gain President Jonathan’s attention on the way out of this issue. On the one hand are those who do not believe in violence and are disposed to  dialogue as a way of finding amicable settlement. On the other hand, you have those who believe in the use of the military to diminish and bring down the group.

”By my understanding of this group, I do not believe that the military can bring down this group because they are not a conventional group that is out on the street or resides in the bush in a face me, I face you formation. They act in a guerilla fashion. They strike and withdraw and believe in surprises as a tool in prosecuting their violent campaign.

“We should also understand that in the last three years, the same kind of violence has been used against the group and each time the government thinks it has diminished the group, you see them coming out stronger. Many people do not understand the group; but from my own contact with the group, I have found them to be a highly organised force of young men who are very deadly and determined in what they are doing and at the end of the day, those who will suffer are innocent citizens.

“So, our trip to the group, which I facilitated, I believe is the best way out of this violence. The issue that sparked off this violence was the killing of Mohammed Yusuf and others in 2009 and till today, there has never been an attempt by government to reach out to the families of these people or to address the issue, apart from the belated prosecution of the policemen that carried out the killing.

“I was the first person to make contact with the Boko Haram group. The commanders and family members are dreaded and are seen as monsters who cannot be approached. But I single-handedly took the risk of reaching out to them. I believe all the government needs to do is to support and back up any attempt that will end the crisis.
“However, it appears that the Federal Government is resolute in employing force to dislodge the group. Otherwise, it would have given our initiative some attention.  Despite the killing of Baba Kura Fugu, who hosted us, we were not willing to abandon the initiative because the main Boko Haram group made it clear that they were not party to the killing of Baba Kura Fugu. They have said that they cannot kill one of their own and they are even in support of the initiative, which I have started.
“For that to have happened and nobody is doing anything, all that people like me can do is to fold our arms and watch, because if I can take the risk of reaching out to the Boko Haram group and the government, on the other hand, is not willing to implement some of the ideas and suggestions they were given, there is nothing anybody can do about it.
”What were the ideas they were given towards the resolution of this crisis? First, there was the need to rebuild their houses, their mosques and schools that were demolished from 2009 to 2010. Secondly, there is the need to release some of their members currently in detention.
“Thirdly, there is the need to scale down military presence in Maiduguri in phases, which has not been able to end some of the activities of the group, but has led to gross human right violations and turned the people against the military and other security agents in Borno State.
“If you go to Borno State now, people have more fear for the security agents than they have for the Boko Haram group. The next thing we have said is that the government should symbolically honour the court ruling that says it should compensate the family of Mohammed Yusuf.

“Now, if they had started implementing these suggestions, which were part of our agreement with the Boko Haram group, you could then have a way out. But the government is only giving credence to the use of force and the implementation of the Gatalari Committee, which the Boko Haram’s main stream, led by Shikau, has said they don’t want to have anything to do with.

“If the Boko Haram group said they are not opposed to my own initiative but are opposed to the committee set up by government, all they need to do is to support this initiative. I have nothing to gain other than bringing an end to this SinParty of violence and restoring peace in this country. But for now, I can tell you that I do not think that the government has taken President Obasanjo’s submission seriously. They are just interested in the use of force”.

He, however, still expresses hope in the peace process in spite of government’s refusal to dialogue with the group, saying: “For now, I have not ruled out the possibility of continuing with the talks. But there is no way I can continue with the peace initiative if the government has not shown much interest in what I am doing.”

Sani said he has received various forms of threat as a result of his peace initiative, adding: “I have been receiving threats and it has to do with the fact that I initiated a peace process that will bring an end to violence and the threats are very specific, that I should end the process of bringing the government and Boko Haram to end this thing.

“I do receive text messages and calls telling me this is what it is. I do not think that this is something that my family members agree that I should get involved in. In fact, many of them believe that I should just sit back like others and watch. My take is that there is a socio-economic and political implication to what is happening now. It is not human to fold your hands and see hundreds of human lives being wasted; neither is it human to sit back when you know that you can make an impact. It is not human to see violence take over your country and you sit back when there is something you can do.

“What I feel is that this is my own contribution. Other people, especially in this part of the North, have chosen to remain silent either because they don’t like the government and the saying that the enemy of your enemy is your friend or because they are afraid of voicing out or taking any initiative or for the fact that they are simply not concerned. They may think that the Boko Haram group will target them if they are opposed to them.

“I know that the Boko Haram are well organised and can reach their target anywhere at any time and they may not be used to passing through the normal channels where their cars will be checked. As an organisation, they have their leader and a parliament called Shura and whatever they do, it is not just one person directing the affairs. They reach a collective decision on what they want to do, which is approved by their own parliament, which is the Shura.

“When you are dealing with such a group that also has spread across neigbouring countries, you should know that you are dealing with a very serious problem, which needs a very serious approach to handle”.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about any meaningful US millitary intervention in Nigerian affairs before 2013 (after their presidential elections). The best they'll do is send a handful of observers who will remain impotent as far as defeating Boko Haram, MEND, and other terrorists is concerned.

Many of the fools on this thread who are hoping that the US Army will come to Nigeria and wipe out the Northerners, will be in for a very rude awakening.

Only a single dead US soldier will ensure that Obama does not get a second term. If you people believe that Obama will put our terrorist problem ahead of his second term ambition, then you are as daft as the handlers of GEJs who are yet to advise the president to declare a state of emergency in some states and deal with the issues at hand.

@Ndu chuks

Yes you are right about the Igbo spirit.

But what would even interest you is that among all the southern Nigeria civilisation, the Igbos were the first to case bronze.

In fact do you know that there was a finding that suggest that in Ala Igbo ( Igbo land) there was a lost empire found in present day Enugu and Anambra.

Very interesting read, I would post it when I have time
You are quite right. Too bad a mjority of the new generation of Igbos who post on NL have been weakened by bigotry and misinformation, coupled by preoccupation with a lost war. Quite sad.

It is possible that the inhabitants of Igbo-Ukwu had a metalworking art that flourished as early as the ninth century (though this date remains controversial). Three sites have been excavated, revealing hundreds of ritual vessels and regalia castings of bronze or leaded bronze that are among the most inventive and technically accomplished bronzes ever made.

The people of Igbo-Ukwu, ancestors of present-day Igbo, were the earliest smithers of copper and its alloys in West Africa, working the metal through hammering, bending, twisting, and incising. They are likely among the earliest groups of West Africans to employ the lost-wax casting techniques in the production of bronze sculptures. Oddly, evidence suggests that their metalworking repertory was limited and Igbo smiths were not familiar with techniques such as raising, soldering, riveting, and wire making, though these techniques were used elsewhere on the continent.

The Yoruba people have a nick name for Igbos, namely Aje’kuta ma mu’mi, meaning person wey dey eat rock without the need to wash it down with water.  I think those who gave Igbos that name were spot on.  These people are some of the most stubborn human beings I’ve ever met. I say stubborn in a good way.   These people lost a war 45 years ago but are still fighting the same way today (olodos). As some Ijaw posters claimed, they captured Igbos  and sold them off into slavery.  The story below shows that even when the Igbo slaves arrived at their Georgia destination, they decided to commit mass suicide instead of remaining in slavery. For that act of touchness I say, Igbo Kwueze nu!!!

Ebo Landing (originally Igbo, also Ibo) is a small moment in the historical southem past. The legend that remains is a reminder of a life and the tradgedy of slavery. Women and men from the Ebo tribe were brought from southern Nigeria, in the western part of Africa, to Savannah, Georgia to be auctioned off as slaves. Two families from St. Simons Island, Georgia purchased these slaves and had them shipped to the Island on a ship named Morovia.
The captain's own slave was the first to commit suicide by drowning in Dunbar Creek. Then the Ebo chief began chanting, "The Sea brought me and the Sea will bring me home." There was no questioning the chief's decisions. They all began chanting together. Chained one to the other, they came into port and were lead toward the dock. But, instead of walking onto the bank into a life of slavery, they all turned and followed their chief into the depths of Dunbar Creek.

http://www.glynncounty.com/History_and_Lore/Ebo_Landing/
Hmmm - more

Ebo Landing is located in St. Simons, Georgia. It is said that the chanting of Igbo people can still be heard at the mouth of Dunbar Creek. The creek is near Sea Island on the southeast coast of St. Simon Island. In the 1850s a group of chained enslaved Igbo people were being held on the beach. They had just arrived to America on board the slave ship, The Wanderer, which crashed when the vessel ran ashore. While being held on the beach, the slaves made a suicide pact. Instead of living the rest of their lives in chains, they ran, chained to each other, into the water and drowned. The site is supposedly haunted by their ghosts. No one should be surprised at the upsurge of violence such as we are seeing with Boko Haram - this is just an effect of GEJ's st.upidity and cluelessnes. Since you are a blind mouse, I will reproduce an effective solution which I posted elsewhere for you. Let's hope our president has the wherewithal to implement such a solution. olodo

Terrorists have murdered Christians, Moslems, Pagans, and other innocent Nigerians in cold blood.  The President is yet to address the nation in any meaningful manner up till now. Mr. President, this terrorist act is tantamount to war and you need to respond appropriately unless you welcome the obvious consequences of such terrorist acts.

I'm sad to say that GEJ is not fit to rule this country. Undoubtedly, he is a good man, but he is not a competent leader. The security problem is getting worse on a daily basis. The President does not need to wait until a bomb explodes in Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Oyo, and Enugu, before understanding that a very urgent and decisive response is needed.

Its time to declare  state of emergency in a couple of states, send troops in by the thousands, just like we do when we lead ECOWAS forces to other African countries, and clean up the mess.  What da heck are they waiting for? Are 176 dead Nigerians not enough reason to do this? SMH

Mr. President, you don't need to wait until 5 suicide bombers ram the NASS and kill a few senators before you act. Every Nigerian's life is precious.

@Beaf, what kind of gun are you going to use when you "shoot back" the Nigerian police during your protest against corruption? Do they now have guns powerful enough to reach Nigeria from the comfort of your 1 bedroom shack abroad?   cheesy

My dear Aboki, let me just inform you that we Imolites know how we roll; WE voted him; WE put him there; and the money belongs to US; so whatever outcome is OUR concern, and not yours.
You sound like another hate-filled and lost Imolite. You are probably a bigot and uneducated as well, since educated people believe in constructive criticisms. Mgbo piafuka gi isi
