The gross incompetence of legislators in passing effective legislation and ensuring that law enforcement agencies do their duties have indirectly led to the sad story below. Why would a person who is not in law enforcement own a gun? the answer is simple, there is no legislative will by our 'leaders' to do the right thing. Story and pic of the killed daughter below: JAMES Igwoche, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Customs (DSC) may be regretting engaging his elder son, Ada, in an argument. Residing behind ECWA Secondary School, North Bank, Makurdi, he was said to have queried Ada, a 100-level student in the Department of Psychology at Benue State University, Makurdi, why he was insisting on going for lectures when the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were still on strike.http://dailytrust.com/weekly/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7399:how-dad-killed-own-daughter-while-trying-to-shoot-son&catid=40:cover-stories&Itemid=26

The completion of Onitsha port would be a major accomplisment which we all should be proud of. We should give GEJ and his administration praises when they deserve it, we must also remember that the project began because of Yar'Adua. Lets wait for official dedication of the port before we start jumping up and down. I was in Onitsha 3 weeks ago and can authoritatively tell you that the 'port' I saw is not ready for full time operations at all. It would be a shame if they've started using that port for bringing in cargo. I wouldn't be surprised if the cargo was made up of contrabands. There are no full time employees in place who are able to process cargo ships. More importantly no computer system has been put in place to handle port activities. Lets wait for the right time to open the port, we don't need another port opened and subsequently shut down after a few months. That port is not ready, I can assure you people. |
@Beaf, you should be praising the critics who expressed their outrage over the news report that Nigeria plans to invest $2.6bn in Indonesia. After the news was reported, NNPC spokesman, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma, declined to make official response, after he had initially promised to respond, further fueling the outrage expressed by Nigerians including NLers on this thread. Why must it take the Minister of Petroleum to make a public denial? At the end of the day, I commend Nigerians for opposing an act which would have been the biggest slap in the face. Beaf, you should do the same, rather than vilify your people. olodo |
Thats what you get when you mess with the vengeful OBJ. Pele o, Otunba. ![]() |
knightride:Pray tell, who is benefiting from the publicity generated by this idiiotic prediction? TD Joshua or God? Was the prediction made to glorify God or TD Joshua? I wonder whether Joshua would have announced to the world that he prayed for success, if Nigeria had won the game. Please tell Joshua to predict when we will have constant power supply. olodo. Better yet, tell him to predict when our electricity problem will end. SMH |
The purpose of many prophecies is to warn God's children of impending danger which can then be defeated through praying about the said danger. If indeed this was a prophesy from God, revealed in Church, why did Malam Joshua and his congregation not pray to reverse the predicted doom? BTW, it is hard to believe that God is in the business of fixing matches. Joshua should watch his back if he was using God's name to take undue risks and making predictions, which if they come true, will glorify Malam Joshua and Joshua alone. False prophets never die well. BE WARNED!!!! |
arsenefc:Let me put it in the most simplistic term that I can: Deregulation is a major part of the solution we need to resolve our power problem. I actually believe that generation may not be that much of a problem, and even think that the amount of power currently generated, is enough to provide at least 70 - 80% of Nigeria with uninterruptible power supply. The problem is that power cannot be stored so as soon as it is generated it must be used. This is the reason why we still send/sell power to Cameroon, Niger, and other countries. We have the most inefficient and archaic distribution system which allows for the loss of power, circuit breaks, and weaknesses, throughout the system. Assume that you live in PH and X MW of power is produced by generation stations in the area, because of the said inefficiency, only X-Y MW of power can be used in PH, the result is that Y MW of power must be returned to the transmission lines and most likely end up in Cameroon! The distribution lines which move power into our homes are not well maintained by PHCN and to make maters worse, our brothers, primarily from Enugu, Aba, and Onitsha, go around stealing copper wires, further compounding the problem. If the distribution sector is deregulated, companies will now own the power lines and will, of course, protect their investments. I hope this simplistic explanation sheds a bit of light to the reasonableness of deregulating the sector. |
@Onlytruth, if you discard your ill-advised notion of actualizing your Biafran nation and become a true nationalist, you'll find out that we have a lot in common. olodo |
tampa1871:If the main point you took away from my posts here, is that "because a problem has persisted for so long then it shouldn't be corrected" as you put it, then I must conclude that you are an intellectual midget with an inability to comprehend simple sentences. olodo If you believe that bulldozing the shanties and turning traders into homeless and destitute people overnight reduces your security risks, then you are more of a dullard than I initially thought. Please crawl back into the hole from which you came. |
Beaf:I agree with you 100% on this one. There appears to still be hope for your redemption. |
You people talking about building theses settlements on railway lines are being disingenious. First of all, the settlements were not on top of any railway line, but close to it. Secondly, where were the government agencies in charge of environment and enforcement for the past 10years when the settlements were established? It seems to me as if the officials in charge of the task force are the ones who should have been fired and locked up long ago, for failure to do their jobs. As legitimate Lagos settlers and non criminal citizens, who run legitimate businesses, these people should have been resettled promptly. |
This is disgraceful!! Imagine PHCN using generators. If they can't provide their offices with uninterruptible power supply, where is the hope of providing the same for the whole country. The government needs to step up the deregulation process and unbundle the whole damn thing. In order to make officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria to be committed to the provision of electricity, the board of the Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies (AES) has called on the presidency outlaw the use of generator in all PHCN offices nationwide. The President of the board, Dr. Ausbeth Ajagu, made the call yesterday during a meeting with Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo in his office at the State House, Abuja. |
Many of the posters on this thread, who live abroad BTW, are expressing disappointing, if not shocking, views, on this issues. What kind of government will destroy the living quarters of her citizens without providing some sort of compensation or resettlement of the displaced? The answer is, an insensitive and irresponsible government. Shame on the officials and the governor himself! This is not the way to exercise a government's right of eminent domain. Every Nigerian should have a right to defend his/her home or business with full force. These victims of government abuse must be set free. |
I'm afraid and disappointed that NL youths have been blinded by tribalism and regionalism to the extent that they view questioning the accountability of their heros as insulting and irrational. I weep for you people. |
Not sure where to post this, Mods please move as you deem fit. RIP great innovator!!! His company had more cash reserves than any other company in the world!! He was only 56. http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/05/us/obit-steve-jobs/index.html |
What a pity!! This guy is definitely a victim. |
@ekt_bear, must you programmers always spoil the fun for gullible people? This is the same way you researched various economic theories and principles just to prove that there is no voodoo in Sanusi's economic schemes. oro e ti su mi. |

To Keep Nigeria One Is A Task That Must Be Done, lest all una kill una selves finish like dem do for Rwanda. |
Onlytruth:olodo, you spoilt your post by writing 'Great job GEJ'. If anyone believes that a government official who is eligible for free health care by the government will not find the funds to fly himself/herself to India, Saudi Arabia, UK, or anywhere else, is delusional. The ban is actually a joke. Anyone who buys the lies must be an eediot. Onlytruth, does the shoe fit? |
hehehehe. Gullible Nigerians. ![]() |
asha 80:shatap dia!! So what?? If GEJ is now appointing people based on qualifications and competence, you people should praise tha man. Abi GEJ is now part of the Northern cabal in the Federal Civil Service mentioned in the article? I maintain that it is junk journalism. |
How North sidelines S/West in civil service * No South Westerner in top ten of federal protocol Written by Taiwo Adisa, Group Politics Editor Sunday, October 2, 2011 Only last week, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed the replacement for Professor Afolabi from the North-East zone, contrary to widespread indication that the president was set to appoint a candidate from the South-West, in line with the desired balancing act in the federation as designed by the constitution.
This is the epitome of junk journalism. If Professor Afolabi is from the North-East zone, then surely Osama Bin Laden's name is really Othello Benjamin laden. |
Onlytruth:Indeed he is a minority, separatists like you and this old coot are typically on the fringe of society. As I told you earlier, the vast majority of the people from your very own village do not believe in separation. You are better off adapting to civilization - come out of the bush and work for the betterment of our nation instead of running around, wishing for the impossible. olodo |
Dede1:I maintain that there is no evidence whatsoever that Murtala Mohammed ordered anyone to commit the attrocities in question or that he personally perpetrated any cold blooded murder. If you accuse Brigadier Adekunle of border line war crimes, I may not disagree with you, for Adekunle, nick named Black Scorpion, was known to personally pull out the teeth of enemies and wayward subordinated alike, with spanners. No one can accuse Murtala of such wrongdoing with a straight face. |
Dede1:I maintain that your anger is misplaced and that the Op's assertion that Murtala Mohammed took delight in killing civilians is completely false. Your attempt at debunking anything I've written has, once again failed. If we assume that soldiers commited cold blooded murder at the order of their brigade commander, only the soldiers who committed the crimes and the brigade commander who gave the orders, would face court marshall. The divisional commander, will not face any court marshall because he has no culpability for the war crime. Stop trying to deceive gullible people here - you know exactly where I am coming from. |
Dede1:You can't really blame Murtala Mohammed for lack of query, even if your statement is true. The millitary police who were not under the command of Murtala Mohammed had the responsibility to deal with issues like this. As long as Murtala was not directly involved in any of these killings and did not give the orders for the attrocities, the anger and vilification of Murtala by you and others, is grossly misplaced. Blame Lt Col. Francis and others, but not the great Murtala Mohammed. |
Dede1:We are finally getting to the truth. At least you are honest enough to admit (see bolded above) that brigade and battalion commanders, other than Murtala were directly responsible for the Asaba debacle. Dede1:hmmm, you may have craftfully dodged the bullet here, but remember that I am watching revisionists closely. |
Dede1:This is another tale by the moonlight which you all believe if you tell enough times, people will start to believe. Where did you get this information from? You of all people should know that it is unacceptable to makeup your own account of historical events. You claim that 300 chucrch worshippers were killed as they attempted to swim across the Niger, well another one of your colleagues statted: "At Onitsha - the 300 strong congregation of the Apostolic Church decided to stay on while others fled and to pray for deliverance. Col. [Murtala] Mohammed's Second Division found them in the church, dragged them out, tied their hands behind their backs and executed them." nwannem, why can't you all, at least agree on the details of the lies you tell so that it will be believable? |
Dede1:If he was a mere signal officer, why are you all accusing him of the killings on Asaba. I must say that I understand your anger, if not hatred for the man. Without Murtala Mohammed, I must admit, secessionists may have achieved their objectives. @Dede1, Odimma, how about you, how dody? |
