@Onlytruth, why did you remove GEJ's quote included in my write-up when you quoted my post? Let me guess, obfuscation and lame attempt to put the wool over people's eyes.

Look if investigations lead to some elements of MEND, then so be it., if it leads to religious extremist - same same. Deal with the culprits promptly. shikena

@Onlytruth, I'm glad most forumites are brighter than you, in that they would not reach the same conclusion as you, concerning the notion that I am trying to link  MEND with Al Qaeda.  I am free to explore all information available to us to reach whatever conclusion I want.

Let me remind you of GEJ's remarks after the Abuja bombing:
"The preliminary analysis of the explosives so far used in Nigeria, the one used in the 1st October explosion has the same characteristics with the ones that happened in Port Harcourt, Warri and some parts of the Niger Delta, it has been classified."
Now the FBI is telling us that they “conclusively found  that the signature of the bomb matched other blasts by the Al Qaeda terror network.”

I'm sorry to inform you that GEJ already made the association you are accusing me of attempting to make. His Interior Minister even criticised him for it, but GEJ is privvy to more information than the said minister.

Your attempt at falsely accusing me has fallen on its face as usual. olodo

@eku_bear, lets hope for the best.

@Akhenaten, I hope the culprits are found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I for one, cannot say who or what group is responsible but I have enough faith in the FBI that the culprit will be revealed.

I additionally hope they will provide us with drones to destroy their camps, be they in the North or deep in the creeks of ND. Insha Allah, they will not succeed in destroying our dear nation.

@eku_bear, I agree with you that its starting to sound bizzare. The story in my last link seems to attempt to link Okah with dealings with Al Qaeda. I  honestly don't want to believe the story. We'll find out the truth soon enough. I wonder whether Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo is Shiite or Sunni.

It suffices to say that the government needs to nip this problem in the bud, pronto.
You'd think this would get coverage in the US media or something, if true. Not saying I don't believe, but just seems a bit odd. . .
I'm sure more details will become available soon. It is noteworthy that "a link between Al Qaeda and the Henry Okah's flank of MEND is currently giving investigators and prosecutors in South Africa a serious concern as to the strength, dynamics and connection of the Nigerian militant group. Okah is said to have arms deal with Al Qaeda network."  http://www.pointblanknews.com/News/os4086.html

There is no doubt that Al Quaeda will use religious extremists, MEND, or any other group to achieve their goals. Let's pray that this story is not true.

The rest of the story below:

Lagos State Government secretariat workers also panicked at the news that another bomb was planted in the secretariat.

Governor Babatunde Fashola got to hear about it at about 3:30 p.m. during the commissioning of phase two of the modern taxi cab scheme in Ikeja, where he was represented by his Deputy, Sarah Sosan.

The state government allayed the fears by saying that the security operatives are on top of the situation and urged residents of the mega city to go about their businesses without panic.

But elsewhere, the police also had to dismiss as a mere threat, report of the presence of a bomb in Motorways building in the Ikosi area, which anti-terrorists officers cordoned off.

Police Commissioner, Marvel Akpoyibo, said it was the handiwork of trouble makers to create fear in the minds of residents.

He appealed to Lagosians to ignore the rumour.

On Wednesday, police anti-bomb squad began the screening of cars at the Lagos Airport, sequel to the bombings in Jos on Christmas eve and in Abuja on New Year’s eve that killed several people, and heightened tension over insecurity.

Officers used metal and mine detectors to search cars at the general aviation terminal, on the directive of Airport Police Commissioner, Moses Onireti.

It was learnt that the exercise was supposed to be a 24-hour affair but did not last that long, probably because of lack of manpower in the anti-bomb unit.

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Managing Director, Richard Aisuebeogun, said security at the airports is being taken seriously, and that the FAAN has met with security agencies on the new procedure.

He reiterated that, “Every airport where you have the conglomeration of people means a lot to us, lives and properties are involved. Therefore, we are taking seriously the security of airports. Just yesterday, we had a meeting with (Onireti) and I also met with the Chief Security Officer (CSO).

“As we speak, in another few minutes an airport security committee meeting would hold. We have also directed that a similar meeting, which usually is monthly, should hold on urgent basis."

“We have put in place security procedures that we are currently implementing, so as to ensure we do not have any breaches within the airport environment.”

Aisuebeogun added that the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Harold Demuren, who is currently out of the country, is very concerned about security at the airports – and this will necessitate a larger security meeting to review the step taken.

He said efforts will be made to see that Nigerian airports comply with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) security regulations.

“We believe that we can put in our best and God will surely bless the efforts. That is what we are doing right now and I want to tell you that (Demuren) is very concerned.

“He is currently abroad, and as soon as he comes back, we will hold a larger airport security meeting again to quickly review what our officers and men on the field have done, so as to ensure strict compliance with ICAO security regulations and procedures.”

No wonder, FBI arrived Abuja promptly. This problem needs to be dealt with very promptly!!!    shocked shocked shocked

America disclosed on Tuesday that Al-Qaeda, the Islamic terrorist network, was the financier, the planner, and the executor of the bomb blasts that killed and maimed in Abuja on New Year’s eve.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) probing the explosions said in its preliminary report that local affiliated terrorist cells provided support on the ground.    shocked shocked shocked
FBI agents made the connection  after  they “conclusively found  that the signature of the bomb matched other blasts by the terror network.”

According to  counter-terrorism experts, every bomb – like art – has the signature of its maker or group-based on funding, sophistication, and objective.

“Some bombs are made to serve as warning with little damage while others are made to achieve  as much collateral damage and deaths as possible, which is the hallmark of Al-Qaeda,” an official stated.

Homeland Security Department officials and Pentagon sources added that based on the FBI findings, President Barack Obama has approved a request by Nigeria for a permanent  FBI counter-terrorism unit in the country.

“These agents normally do investigations after a blast but  their job in Abuja may now include preventing  these blasts through better security coordination and surveillance.”

They will also train Nigerians on how to detect and deal with local terror groups.

Based on the FBI recommendations, Abuja has awarded a contract for the installation of close circuit security cameras at sensitive  locations countrywide, including airports, bridges, roads, hotels and other places determined by officials.

The  cameras are emerging as an important tool in detection and prosecution of  terror suspects.

The government has agreed to  also  keep an eye  on  Islamic scholars visiting Nigeria from  the Middle East whose teachings are deemed inflammatory.    “Groups like Boko Haram are being influenced and financed by  extremist foreign  religious leaders and groups with the intention of overthrowing the Nigerian Government.

“It is the responsibility of the government to cut such ties and funding in the interest of national security,” Homeland Department officials warned.

The prodding of the Americans also led to the directive given by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that all banks should tell their customers to update their data.

“It was discovered that thousands of fictitious accounts are being used by  suspected terror groups to move vast amounts of money to finance their training and operation. Hopefully the policy will  close that window and cut off the funds.”

Besides, the FBI recommended the setting up of  a  new terror unit, independent of existing security agencies, because of fears dozens of officials may have been compromised by  bribes.

Back in Lagos, daily activities were disrupted in Alausa on Thursday as a result of another bomb scare through an anonymous note dropped in the toilet of a company.

It claimed that a bomb would detonate in about six hours’ time.

The note, signed by a group called Concerned Nigerians, urged the evacuation of workers and visitors to the premises.

News of the impending explosion, which started mid-day, spread like wide fire and soon attracted the police Anti-bomb Squad.

GEJ and Uduaghan got more than they bargained for. Regardless of the declared winner, this election should be classified as one of the freeest and fairest election in Nigerian history - relatively peaceful too (minimal fracas).  Warri was quite calm throughout, with the exeption of one or two disorderly conducts by ineffective thugs.

Ogboru appears to be poised to upset Uduaghan, but its too early to count Uduaghan out. It will be a close one by the time its all said and done.
A good election all in all. Kudos to INEC and Jega Jega, it would have been 100 times worse under iwuruwuru.

Aisha, Beaf might not have passed his message across in a politically correct way, but he was right in labelling the OP's intentions as daft.

Ndu_Chucks was the one that politicisized his own thread and all Beaf did was to try and bin that insensitivity. This is not the first time that Ndu_Chucks is employing this tactics. He enjoys trying to score political points out of other people’s misery as he did with his ARABA thread. I had some form of respect for him until I saw that thread and understood the level of his moral decay.

I am sorry about your sisters and I hope they get well soon.

RIP to those that fell where they stood.
FACE, First of all Beaf was not referring to the OP’s intentions as daft, he said the threads was daft. He wrote the following Very daft thread.. Where was the reference to my intentions in that post?

Secondly, if you think that my observations about GEJ’s pronouncement was to score a cheap political point, then you are very wrong. In fact GEJ’s own Minister of Interior, made the same observation that I made regarding GEJ’s irresponsible reaction on Tuesday.

Here is a link to the Minister’s remarks title “Minister Faults Jonathan’s Comments on 2nd Abuja Blast” http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/minister-faults-jonathans-comments-2nd-abuja-bomb-blast No one believes that the Minister’s comments are politically motivated or daft. I wholeheartedly agree with the bolded part above.  The barbarian nature of  Nigerians may not be conducive to the kind of  federalism which its proponents are screaming.  Additionally, most of their leaders are thieves as you can see from the actions of governors, reps, senators, presidents, vice presidents and LG officials.

There is a lot of truth to Aminu's pronouncements, Nigeria is not UK, US, Germany, or even a developed nation.  We need to come up with a system of government that takes into consideration some of the very real issues raised by Aminu. Effeminate emotionalism will not resolve any problem. You people need iron hands that will force you to sit up. Jakumo:
The ascension of Jonathan Goodluck, to become Nigeria's FIRST EVER president with ancestral roots traceable to the Niger Delta oil fields, must be recognized as the SOLE inspiration behind the recent mass disarmament of the Niger Delta's numerous militias.  Given that President Goodluck ALSO happens to be the ONLY Nigerian leader that proved bold enough to lock horns with the criminal gang that has deliberately deprived Nigeria of electrical power since the late 1980s, the nation simply can not afford to grant success to ANY of the other desperadoes currently seeking to replace Jonathan Goodluck, for the reasons mentioned above.
The bolded is the most unfortunate phrase ever written on NL by Jakumo. What if the will of the people is to throw PDP out and replace its candidate, GEJ, with one of the presidential candidates from one of the non PDP parties?

PDP has started to implode already, and its candidate is unlikely to win the next election. You may want to rephrase the bolded text above.

You and your heartless ND thugs who are responsible for the bombing, as your uncle has started to admit, will be severely dealt with. bagworo has a point. MEND is the culprit. The President now seems to be admitting that MEND is responsible for the Abuja bombing, contrary to his earlier statement.  We know that they arrested MEND operatives for the Oct 1. bombing after publicly claiming that MEND did not do it. He has repeated the same blunder again.

This president needs to sack all his handlers. How can he tell us that the bombing was religious based yesterday and within 24 hours say that it was carried out by the Oct 1, bombers aka MEND? This incompetence is embarassing.

PRELIMINARY analysis into the New Year’s Eve bomb blast in Abuja which killed more than 20 people has shown that it is identical to the recent ones in Jos, Plateau State.

President Goodluck Jonathan who revealed this Saturday said recent bomb blast in the country starting from the 1st October has been classified and from the preliminary analysis carried out so far they bear resemblance with the ones that happened in Jos.
The classification, the president further said, has helped to narrow down the probable direction the attack is coming from and this he also said would help the security operatives to get those behind the attacks.

Victims came from various tribes.

Another account of how it happened: Mr Kunle Salako, elder brother a victim, the late Olarenwaju Nurain, said he was informed that his brother’s wife went to the market to buy some items, while her husband stayed back to assist her in the place since business was at its peak.
He said one man came in to drink a bottle of beer and left without collecting his bag under the table he sat.

“When the late Olarenwaju discovered the bag after 30 minutes, he held it up to tell other nearby shop owners of what he had just discovered. In a swift there was an explosion from the bag. He was killed,” Salako explained.
Among the injured was Esther Mbalisi, who went to Mammy Market to make purchases. Her right leg was amputated. She sustained broken head, badly bruised face and brutalised back.
Loyede Oyetunji, a civil servant, was also seen wriggling in pains as his face and body had severe burns.

Father, mother, daughter are victims: A sergeant in the Nigerian Army, Simi Fafunre, his wife, Folake, and their only five-year-old daughter, Adeola, are all writhing in excruciating pains at the Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja, after suffering from the New Year Eve explosion in the Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja.
The sergeant has lost his two legs. His left hand is also badly

His wife told our reporter that she did not see him up till late in the night. She tried phoning him but his line could not connect.

She said it was around 12:00 midnight that she heard from neighbours that there was a bomb explosion. By the time she got to the hospital, it was 3:00am and behold she met her husband covered in blood.
She said her husband told her that he spotted an object spinning and digging a hole in the earth only about a metre away from him. The device suddenly shot out and then the big bang,

May the lost souls RIP

The explosions at the Mami market of Mogadishu military barracks in Abuja on New Year’s Eve occurred shortly after the departure of two strange gentlemen in dark suits from a ‘drinking parlour,’ one of the victims has said.
The victim, who was receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Asokoro for bruises she sustained during the blast, told Sunday Trust last night that the unknown men had arrived at the bar after 6pm and shortly after they left, the explosion occurred.

The women, who wants to be identified as Mama Hajiya, explained thus: “We went to the opposite side of the bar and ordered for ‘roasted fish’. While we were waiting to be served, one of the men, both in black suits, moved round and came to where we were. He touched my friend (a lady) on the shoulder and said he admired her attire. He said he loved Nigeria and had been living abroad for some time. The men appeared well-behaved and spoke very good English. Because of that I found it difficult to trace their tribe or ethnic group in Nigeria,” the victim explained.

The surviors said the man returned to the bar where his colleague was sitting and, after a couple of minutes, they left the market place.

“Few minutes after their departure, a huge explosion occurred at the spot they sat. I was tossed to the sky by the explosion and when the smoke and dust resulting from the blast subsided, I saw several bodies on the ground in the pool of their blood. I sustained bruises in the head and cuts in the leg. I was also dumbfounded when I discovered that I was in torn clothing when I recuperated, almost naked. My pregnant sister-in-law, who came from Jos to visit me, and was lying near me in pool of blood. Later, we were brought here (hospital) for treatment,” Mama Hajiya said.

Ndu you need to change your user name to stop making folks think you are Igbo instead of a thoroughbred Northerner. smiley
However I think we should wait a bit before arriving at the verdict of who actually did the bombing. But whoever it is, I believe he belongs to the camp that wants to make Nigeria ungovernable by GEJ as promised last year by some Northerners. The perpetrators may have a religious or economic agenda but the sponsors definitely have a political agenda a la desperation to upstage GEJ and be sworn in on may 29.
One should question the judgement of anyone who uses a username to determine a poster's tribe/ethnicity. This is cyberspace for crying out loudly. As for me, a substantial percentage of the blood of the 3 major ethnic groups in Nigeria, runs through my veins.

The sad truth is that, we may never know who is responsible for the bomb blast.  I am not even convinced that it was a bomb, a couple of grenades from the Army barrack next door to the market, is sufficient to do the damage.

@calaway, you obviously have no idea what a good strategy or propaganda means during the war. Trust me, when Jihadist decide to strike you, the will go for your churches, and ensure that there will be no mistaking who they are after.

This attack is either from GEJ's own people themseleves, to start trouble, other politicians, General Togo or MEND,  but not from any Jihadist group or aggrieved Fulanis whose grazing land have been usurped by others.
