I am still waiting for proposals and/or solutions to the problems that are responsible for our backwardness, as stated by posters. @Kilode?! I like your last post, but it comes short of providing solutions to the issues below, just like Chicago bears will come short on Sunday: * An inappropriate system of government. (democracy cannot work where over 50million electorates cannot read or write. 1bad of rice = 50votes e.t.c) * Corruption * Ignorance due to lack of basis education of the masses * Flawed cultural values * Brain drain – Most of our intellectuals are abroad * Oil curse * Foreign Intervention * Lack of Determination * Unpatriotic Citizens Your comments are anticipated. |
Let me state that I completely agree with the assessment of Mr. Onno Ruhl, the World Bank’s Country Director in Nigeria who stated: “I Don’t think it (corruption) is Nigeria ’s problem. I think corruption is important but I really don’t think it is the only thing or may be not the decisive thing” . How could anyone disagree with the statement. Many who are arguing that corruption is or is not the bane of Nigeria did not read the OP’s initial post and are probably responding to the deceptive title of the thread. Now, you people have succeeded in identifying some causes of our backwardness including the items below:
[li]An inappropriate system of government. (democracy cannot work where over 50million electorates cannot read or write. 1bad of rice = 50votes e.t.c)[/li] [li]Corruption[/li] [li]Ignorance due to lack of basis education of the masses[/li] [li]Flawed cultural values[/li] [li]Brain drain – Most of our intellectuals are abroad[/li] [li]Oil curse[/li] [li]Foreign Intervention [/li] [li]Lack of Determination [/li] [li]Unpatriotic Citizens[/li] [li][s]Nigeria not copying the Igbo spirit and trying to suppress it.(courtesy onye ara Onlytruth)[/s][/li]
Incredible value would be added to this thread, if our highly esteemed forumites who by definition are brighter and more intelligent than their ruler, or so they claim, proposed practical solutions to the said items. Take you pick and lets hear your solutions. |
@Sapeleguy, I submit to you people that the said powerful and rulers are Nigerians just like you and are probably of superior intellect than most of you. These people are a reflection of you – why do you continue to allow them to constantly beat you into submission while you respond with internet warriorship or outright escape out of the country?? You guys sound brilliant enough to seize power from them! Don’t give me the old story – they have the money/big guns e.t.c. Tunisia has taken that argument away from you. |
@Sapeleguy, are you insinuating that there is some genetic predisposition that makes leaders do those irrational things you itemized? Your leaders from East, West, South, and North, exhibit this mental inferiority. |
Kalu Akanu:Who are these people of yours that target innocent Christians? It appears you can’t help yourself – continue to wallow in ethnic and religious bigotry and it will consume you. In the maintime, Flee flea!! mumu |
katsumoto: Lets put some things into perspectiveThe financial times report sited by you and 234next published their article before the bonds became available for subscription – their source of information was dead wrong. According to WSJ “Order books for the debut offering were around 2.6 times subscribed and was sold primarily to U.S. and U.K. investors”. Read the WSJ article here European funds and US funds were the main subscribers as opposed to individual investors. If the main subscribers were individual investors, no one would expect WSJ to omit that information in their article. If you have any evidence to support your claims lets have it. By the way $500million is not small at all, for us here in Africa. |
The topic of this thread is a bold face lie. The said offering were 2.6 times subscribed and was sold primarily to US and UK investors. Nigeria is not doomed as most of you seccessionists hope. |
To put the icing on the cake, this coalition must bring APGA and possibly ANPP into the fold. If CPC, ACN, APGA, and ANPP field only one candidate, I'm confident that PDP will be defeated. sai one Nijeria |
It is interesting to also note that with Nwodo's removal, South East has lost out in the zoning of offices in the ruling party. Besides the position of deputy senate president occupied by Ike Ekweremadu, the South East does not hold any other prominent position whether in the PDP or in government. Its time for the South East to rethink their support for GEJ. Time to ask him, what's in this thing for Ndiigbo GEJ may be taking the support of the region for granted. |
@texazzpete, lol, you've now concluded that people who disagree with you don't pay taxes. I will come back and deal with you when I get close to a PC. o |
Onlytruth:If you truly believe that the action of a few bribed PDP delegates is indicative of the notion that the North can be divided in the manner you've assumed above, then you'd be in for a rude awakening, sooner rather than later. Only an unsophistacated observer would have expected a result, other than an overwhelming victory for GEJ, out of the PDP convention. |
Litmus:Are you insinuating that Nigerians have superior minds that are not as weak as those of Japanese, or Tunisians who essentially ran their dictatorial leader out of the country by protests triggered by a selfless act of self-immolation? I tend to think that you people who allow your leaders to hold you as hostages and continue to r.ape you of your funds without any fear of protest or revolt, are weaker. |
@fstranger1, looks like you are looking for attention or some sort of validation. I'm afraid you'll get neither from me. Flee flea!! |
@Beaf, by the way, why do you think GEJ and his economic team chose to borrow $500million through a 10-year bond offering at this point in time? Do you believe this is reasonable, sensible, and well-timed? |
@Beaf, cjfavour said you lied, you protested and he said he is sorry. You then insinuated that his morals may be lacking and he responded in kind. You are now using his response to your response, as an excuse to stop conversing with him. How convenient! Why can't you just accept his apology and continue to answer his questions? Do I detect you chickening out of possible superior arguments or debating points? If so, that is not typical of you, but I can understand why you'd rather not answer cjfavour's questions. |
Eziachi is speaking words of wisdom, let he/she who has ears hear. ![]() |
@texazzpete, what's the matter with you? No one in his right mind is saying that they should let people continue this extremely unsafe act! The least they could do is provide enough supervision and organization to ensure that these people will not be able to ride the trains in an unsafe manner in the first place. It is not difficult to do that. They used to have conductors effectively for these purposes. For those who are wondering whether we have train services, please note that as far back as the late 1960s trains used to go From Lagos all the way to Kano, Jos etc. on a weekly basis. Thieving thieves have since destroyed the system. |
@Rhino.5dm, stop looking too closely else you'll see what has hitherto been obvious to a few people. GEJ is in charge, ka ji ko? |
https://pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Train-Agege.jpg When are they going to arrest and prosecute the government officials who have spent(stolen) Billions of naira budgeted for transaportation infrastructure and yet cannot provide it safely. The prosecutor, Insp. Moses Uademevbo, told the court that the accused persons on Jan. 14, 2011 unlawfully sat atop a moving train from the Ebute-Metta Terminus to Ijoko in Ogun. |
@OP, no vex. Haliru Bello from the North-West geo-political zone takes over as the new National Chairman. Ndigbo is being relieved of their important positions one by one, thanks to GEJ. Zoning may be dead in the PDP - we watch the implications. |
@Imeobong, was the statement that PDP confirmed Halliru Bello as national chairman manufactured by you for sensationalism? What is your source? |
Why is it that, Igbo people put in very important leadership positions end up disgraced out of the position either because of corruption or by other Igbo leaders orchestrating their demise?? I find this trend quite disturbing, we saw it in senate leadership positions, and now in political party leadership positions. Is this a sign of what will happen if we ever get a president from the Ndigbo extraction? Will a Igbo president not be impeached by proceedings initiated by his own people? Do Igbo leaders have what it takes to lead? Our people talk say: Agadi nwanyi da ada ugboro abuo, agu a ihe obu n'ísi onu (If an old woman falls twice, the number of things things she is carrying on her head must be rechecked) |
naijaking1:naijaking1, you of all people should know that there is a difference between religious riots and the protests in question. Most of the participants are youths including many college graduates, but you choose to refer to them as almajiris. That characterisation is unfortunate, unnecessarily inflamatory, and outright wrong. May Okwute Palestinians piafuka gi XYZ, where it will be painful. |
Litmus:Your assessment is quite wrong. Every unsuccessful suicide bomber who was caught, arrested, and tried has never been proved to be insane. These people are anything but insane, they know exactly what they are attempting and do it with a sane mind. |
Onlytruth:Instead of posting utter rubbish, you would have been better off supporting people who were peacefully protesting their disenfranchisement at the hands of PDP. Their peaceful protests turned into riots in certain areas as a result of the failure of the authorities to keep the crowd under control and unnecessary provocation. If more Nigerians protest such disenfranchisement instead of simply rolling over for more, the country will be better off. olodo |
@Litmus, The issue is not just suicide, which is typically a result of some underlying medical/mental problem, but a suicide carried out by a sane person, in protest (of the government). Nigerians are incapable of doing this. Frankly suicide rate in Nigeria is the lowest in the world. |
To be honest with you people, To keep Nigeria One is indeed a task that must be done. For those who are ignorant, the motor of the Nigerian Army during the civil war is "To Keep Nigeria One Is A Task That Must Be Done" From the posts on this thread, one can easily see that, the breakup of Nigeria will lead to many of the barbarians in the southern part of the country, annihilating themselves, tribe by tribe, clan by clan. sai One Nijeria!!! ![]() |
According to CNN, "The popular protests in Tunisia that have caused upheaval in the government were sparked by Mohamed Bouazizi, a 26-year-old unemployed college graduate, who set himself on fire in protest". There is a concern that demonstrators are turning to self-immolation in Egypt, Algeria, and Mauritania. I don't think Nigerians should worry about this new trend, we Nigerians are either cowards or are too much of cynics to carry out such protests. Even Mutallab ensured that his attempt failed by intentionally not following through with his insane act. Acts like that are simply un Nigerian! The day that we have Nigerian Kamikazes is the day that the moon will turn purple, and both Mohammed and Jesus Christ will return to earth in a space ship sharing the same cabin. We are just too smart for our own good. |
asha 80:Indeed. Shekaru will take a very substantial number of Kano votes out of play to the benefit of GEJ and the PDP. |
@Katsumoto, many forumites take pleasure in revisionism as long as it serves their dishonest purposes. PhysicsHMD does not come across as dishonest, I suspect that he is simply ignorant of the events you sighted. He made this statement: Ultimately , I feel it should have happened. The future of Nigeria (our present) would have been immensely different.Thats good enough for me because that is the point I was making from the beginning. |
Beaf:I'm not sure what you mean by the article being a "northernization" attempt. Everything that Zik was said to have done in the article is completely accurate. I'm sure you'd prefer that history repeats itself and no coalition is formed that will pose any threat to GEJ's candidacy - that preference of yours is not surprising since you are a staunch supporter of GEJs. |
So nobody disagrees with what @ndu_chucks laid out? If those are the facts, then how is Zik not an absolute jackass? Not trying to be disrespectful, but what he did seems absolutely selfish, shortsighted, and spiteful.
I challenge anyone to provide information that will dispute the facts as I’ve laid them out. I did not start the thread to insult Zik, Awo, or anyone else. The thread was started to educate some ignorant forumites about historical facts. I believe that history is going to repeat itself once more. What a shame! |
