Politics › Re: Civil war not against Ndigbo — Gowon by nduchucks: 1:39pm On Feb 13, 2010
Before you people start another cyber civil war, there are a couple of things about the article that should be noted.

(1) The only quote attributed to Gowon is: “Nigeria as a country would have been a failure if the Igbo race had been allowed to leave the country Nigeria because  they have contributed immensely to the growth and development of this country”

(2)Why did the reporter not include Gowon's statement which states that the civil war was not against Ndiigo?

(3)I suspect that the article is a delibrate attempt at selling the story - I mean, doesn't the quote attributed to Gowon above, in direct conflict with the title of the article?

I'd withhold my own judgement until the above issues are resolved to avoid sounding like a loser waiting for another opportunity to cry, if I were some of the posters to this thread.
Politics › Niger Delta Youth Coalition Opposes Jonathan - To Seek Injunction by nduchucks(op): 1:12pm On Feb 13, 2010
Who are these misguided people? There is a time to simply take a sitdown look position, and a time to seek attention. Foolish boys.

Court urged to void VP’s position || The Niger Delta Youth Coalition yesterday opposed the resolution of the National Assembly empowering Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as acting president; the group described the development as illegal and unconstitutional.

In a press statement signed by its national coordinator Prince Emmanuel Ogba and national secretary, Dr. Joe Amachree, the group also vowed that it would move for an injunction restraining Jonathan from being acting president.

The statement reads, "We shall move for an injunction restraining Jonathan’s illegal adoption as acting president.

"We the members of the above body wish to call on the two chambers of the National Assembly to retrace their adoption of the vice president of Nigeria until the infringed aspect of the constitution is respected.

“In an emergency meeting held on Thursday, 11th February 2010 in Port Harcourt, we resolved the following:

"That so far as the Sections 143, 144, 145 and 146 of the Federal Constitution of Nigeria demand that transmission of power from sick President Yar’Adua to the National Assembly must be done through a written document and not through a so- claimed broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation. (BBC), we give two weeks ultimatum to the National Assembly to prevail on Yar'Adua to transmit a written transfer of power to the National Assembly, or impeach Yar'Adua for failing to do so, which amounts to gross misconduct and disregard of the constitution.

"Such could begin by providing to the nation the real health condition of our president by setting up a panel of medical experts.

Yes o. Let's enjoy the thread before the haters arrive.

Even the U.S.A Congratulates Jonathan, Approves Of His Acting Status.
The United States government on Friday congratulated acting President Goodluck Jonathan and said his appointment as interim leader until Umaru Yar'Adua recovers served the principle of democracy.

"The US government congratulates acting President Goodluck Jonathan," US ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders, said in a statement in Abuja.

"We believe that the principles of democracy have been served well in Nigeria through the leadership shown by the National Assembly, the Governors’ Forum, several ministers, and the courts in finding a way out of the political impasse," she said.

You lot are jokers.

What was so complex about the loans given out by the failed banks?

Complex financial instruments ko, complex measurement instruments ni!

Structured products are structured over underlying assets, unlike in Nigeria where banks structure products over thin air and other intangibles such as "trust" and "personal relationship". grin grin grin

CBN has just commissioned a contract with someone I know for work on a 30-year-yield curve for Nigeria to help develop the corporate bond market. Naija companies have historically been unable to raise capital by issuing corporate bonds. Guaranty Trust bank has been the first bank to successfully issue corporate bonds just last month while the rest of yall sit on Nairaland raking dust about Northern agenda. I guess these forward looking measures by CBN are all part of retrogressive thinking by Sanusi in his pursuit of a "raw cash" economy.
These people are jokers indeed. They conveniently ignore the massive theft of shareholder funds and value by the CEOs of these banks. The books of the banks have been cooked for years and that fact was bound to become public sooner or later - it was a well known secret.

Time will tell whether Sanusi's actions are prudent. Anyone without as much information as Sanusi does, who comes here to condemn the man's actions, is probably narrow minded, ignorant, or both.

I need someone to enlighten me if I am wrong. I think the Senators actually took us for a ride and carefully set a time bomb to help their ulterior motives (Don't  trust Nigerian politicians).
1. If Yaradua had stayed away for such long period without officially writing for that effect, I think constitutionally, they are suppose to begin a process of impeachment; or was it not the same hurdle Alamasegha tried to skip by all means for him to come back into Nigeria in a wrapper?
2. The constitution stated that the president must write a letter to the lawmakers if he is on vacation, I may not interpret constitution rightly, but I don't think the whole country should be blinded enough to replace a written document with a few seconds' controversial radio interview or has something changed about the Nigerian law that can make us to replace a sworn affidavit with an interview?
3. Since it is FEC that has the constitutional right to declare the governor incapacitated to hold his office, don't you think someone will come up very soon and go to court for all of Jonathan's actions to be nullified? Remember Shonekan's case?
3. Are they not carefully putting a rope in Jonathan's hand to commit a constitutional suicide and then turn back to lower him into the grave?
I'm not a lawyer but can someone just tell me that my thoughts are unconstitutional, then I will have to pay my lawyer for a day's lecture tomorrow  grin angry cool
Jonathan appears to be quite smart and I hope he understands that he'll have to rigorously protect his interest if he is to survive.

I know many of his handlers read naija forums such as this and hope they will advice him to use his newfound power by forcing the FEC to do the right thing and declare Yar'Adua unfit for office, once and for all.

That bold step will endear him to Nigerians even further.

The guy will be sacked in due course. If he is sacked now, idleness may enable him to start trying to file a lawsuit that could be problematic for Jonathan. If the former AG has any integrity, he should resign. Barawo banza.

Words of wisdom again from you. I hope edoyad learns from what you've written.

I know several Yoruba and Igbo people that should probably have more claim to Kaduna than people like edoyad. These people have lived in Kaduna for generations, many were born there, went to school there and have worked there for ages. These people should have equal rights to run for office, own land, and participate in government just like the gwaris, hausas, and "middle belters" who have lived in Kaduna for ages as well. The same equal rights should apply in every state in Nigeria. This is the main reason why I attempted to highlight the Adamawa senator.

edoyad is obsessed with my state of origin and I promise to tell him my state of origin as soon as he posts his home address, wife's (or GF's) name and address, place and date of birth, and the date he graduated from primary school. smiley

By the way, a Nigerian has a father. The Nigerian's father had a mother who is half Igbo and half Idoma. The Nigerian's mother had a father who is half Yoruba and half Fulani. This Nigerian was born while his father was living as a diplomat in Russia and he speaks the russian language fluently.

This Nigerian speaks, hausa, igbo, yoruba, and idoma fluently and he has very close relatives in just about every region in Nigeria. This Nigerian is married to an Ijaw princess.

edoyad's homework: Which tribe should this Nigerian claim? What should be his state of origin? What about the children of the Nigerian, what is their state of origin? Pray tell, olodo.

Ndu_chucks is certainly enlightened; so is edoyad.
Edoyad points out a statement he disagrees with; Ndu_chuck concedes (or seem to) at first but later puts on his argumentative and defensive coat when a certain aboki comes into the picture.

Somewhere in the verbal bouts, ndu_chucks advises against attack on personalities only to turn around and call Beaf and sapeleguy thugs.

@Ndu_chucks,

I've been following your posts on Nairaland and I have reasons to believe that you are an inconsistent fellow who speak from both sides of your mouth. You are pro-Northern domination but pretend to be pro-democratic one Nigeria.

I must concede however that you are a great Nairalander. keep bias aside. BE A DETRIBALISED NIGERIAN.
I'm glad that you've been following my write-ups, please continue to do that. I also welcome constructive criticisms because they help make us better people.  In due time you'll find out that I criticise people who blame all of Nigeria's woes on Northerners, while they continue to ignore their own leaders who are perpetrating worse crimes against them, including theft of billions of naira on a monthly basis.  Most of these apologists, are not from the North. If a Northerners comes here and does the same, I will criticise him/her as well - you see, there are thieving governors and elite in the North as well.

I am also very passionate about not allowing people to come here and revise our history by telling lies without being challenged. Again I criticise such acts with a passion, unfortunately based on statistical realities on NL, you will not find as many of these revisionist traits in NL Northerners as you would NLers from West, East, or South.  That is probably why it may appear as if I am not detribalized. It will become apparent soon enough that,  tribe is not an issue for me. The betterment of Nigeria and all Nigerians is what's most important to me.

As to calling Beaf and Sapeleguy, internet thugs, this is not an issue at all. These 2 guys are some of my favourite sparing partners, they are my whipping buddies and I enjoy exchange of ideas with them. They are sophisticated enough to know the difference between an insult and a friendly name calling, designed to fire them up and get their views out in the open.

I thank you for your observations.

What impeachable offence has Yar adua committed? The Nigerian constitution that dealt with succession did not declare that the president should be impeached if the President fails to transmit a letter of absence to Senate President and Speaker of the House. The senate has no power to jump start impeachment procedures without culpable of offence committed by the President.
I have to agree with you that the president's failure to transmit a letter of absence  does not in of itself constitute an impeacheable offence.

Now, Section 143 subsection 1 through subsection 2(b) of the Constitution of Nigeria provides in part, as follows,

“The President or Vice-President may be removed from office in accordance with the provisions of this section. Whenever a notice of any allegation in writing signed by not less than one-third of the members of the National Assembly:-

(a) is presented to the President of the Senate;

(b) stating that the holder of the office of President or Vice-President is guilty of gross misconduct in the performance of the functions of his office, detailed particulars of which shall be specified…

Section 143 subsections 10 and 11 provides further, and states as follows…

(10) No proceedings or determination of the Panel or of the National Assembly or any matter relating thereto shall be entertained or questioned in any court.

(11) In this section -

"gross misconduct" means a grave violation or breach of the provisions of this Constitution or a misconduct of such nature as amounts in the opinion of the National Assembly to gross misconduct.

In my view, Yar'Adua's continued absence from presidential duties for about 80 days without explanations constitutes gross misconduct.

I bet we can find two-third of the members of the National Assembly who will agree that the power vacuum created by Yar'Adua's continued absence could result to an onset of violence, anarchy, coup, civil war and complete disintegration of Nigeria, all which have been speculated, feared and rumored.

I suspect that when an impeachment proceeding begins, Yar'Adua's transmission letter will promptly follow - i.e. if the man is capable of writing or signing any letter at this point.

Maybe lawyers in the house can help me out on this, "Acting President" to me is like, delegation of authority in companies, he should have limitations, I dont think power to expressely hire and fire is included.
Acting Presidency also comes with executive powers including firing and hiring. The only issue is that the president can come back and reclaim his office. This is why I believe the senate should start an impeachment proceeding immediately. If Yar'Adua is impeached, then Jonathan will not be an acting president, but a President.

I used to have the impression that the North was the problem of Nigeria, but somehow this Yaradua episode has made me have a rethink. I think the problem is more complex than we see. I think it is a combination of historical, cultural, religious and social problems. Why have you not asked, that apart form a very few Nigerian elites like Barrister Femi Falana, and the leadership of NBA and very few religious leaders. All other leaders have kept mute or at best spoken from two sides of their mouth. Even though the PDP controls most of our political spaces, there are a few other political parties in our political space. How come they have all lost their voices. Even the media had been rather tame. Except the mild dissent raised by Dora, no other government official had raised the issue since Yaradua's absence. The North cannot be the only set of people that is comfortable with the way things are, the south-south, west and east had not shown any opposition to the current arrangement. Except we are saying that everybody is afraid of the North.

I think it boils down to the culture of our elites selling their people out to the highest bidders, the Obas and chiefs sold their own people to slavery for monetary gains, they sold their people to the British during commercialization, they sold out to the Military, they sold out to OBJ (remember, most of the power brokers today were rabid supporters of third term - including Yaradua), they are selling out to Yaradua today and would be ready to sell out to the highest bidder tomorrow.
The bolded statements above, are some of the most reasonable and accurate statements I've read in the political section so far.  The common enemy is the elite who come from North, South, West, East, and Middlebelt (I'm sure edoyad would be pleased with the inclusion of middlebelt here).
Politics › Re: Jonathan Is Now President by nduchucks: 2:44pm On Feb 09, 2010
I'm afraid that Jonathan may find himself in a trap. If the AG decides to challenge this senate resolution in court, I'm afraid the AG will have a very strong case and the backing of the constitution. You don't address an illegality with another illegality.

The senate has the constitutional power to impeachment the president, they should start that proceeding immediately to checkmate any funny business from the AG. The senate resolution is legally worthless, useless, irresponsible, and shameful.

I suspect that as soon as an impeachment process is started, we'll see a letter to the senate from Yar'Adua promptly. Jonathan should refuse to be sworn in on the basis of this useless resolution.

Edoyad,

I ask you, does your grouping as a political entity to be explored by politicians and religious zealots alike, change the fact that the so-called middle belt geographically remains in Northern Nigeria? The answer to that question is an emphatic no!  Your recent posts have helped to ascertain this fact as well, read your own posts.

I maintain that you are a non Hausa/Fulani Northerner.  There is absolutely nothing you can do to change that. What you can change is your behavior to your neighbors - you people need to learn to live with each other instead of killing each other like cows in a barbaric manner.
Politics › Re: Yoruba Woman Is Adamawa Senator by nduchucks(op): 1:19pm On Feb 08, 2010
Edoyad,

The only thing I accept about your rants is that you are not Hausa/Fulani.  However, you cannot change the geographical location of Adamawa based on your ethnicity. Adamawa is in the North East zone, period.  Admittedly, many Adamawa citizens are non Hausa/Fulani northerners.

I know you have deep rooted hatred for Hausa/Fulani  and probably vice-versa. There is also religious hatred eating you people up. Imagine the city of Kaduna that used to be a melting pot, being divided along ethnic/religious lines - an affair that is as shameful as barbaric. Will you claim that Northern Kaduna is in the middle belt as well?

I noticed that you dodged an important question you were asked: when was middle belt created?and what was the manouver behind the creating of middle belt? who created middle belt?  I hope you are informed enough to provide us with answers to these questions.

Based on your logic, we might as well start using ethnicity for geographical expressions. You are a bloody non Hausa/Fulani northerner, deal with it! olodo.
