The whole of the ND (including the Igbo's) needs to come up with a policies in relation to the US, as well as regional progress. There is no better time than now.
If Nigeria wants to squander itself with ugly tribal politics, then let the ND (and surrounding areas of interest) who have always borne the brunt of inhumane actions try to get the best they can out of US policies (which lean in our direction anyway).

Rather than scale back, we need to dramatically escalate and intensify cooperation in the ND. Cooperation is already exemplary, but needs to be strongly focused toward set goals and landmarks for both the region and surrounding areas.
Unfortunately, the US is not ready to deal with regional faction, but prefer to deal with the federal government who currently controls the oil fields. The Nigerian government will not welcome US "poke nosing" in her internal affairs.

I agree with you that cooperation between SS and SE will only serve to improve the lot of all parties.

Why is your attack always tailored towards Ndigbo?. I do not mind you attacking Ndigbo but it should also be to other ethnic groups in Nigeria. It seems IGBO scares life out of you.
Please point me to a post where I tailored an attack towards Ndigbo. I don't believe in bashing ethnic groups, my observations above state that I was describing a trait common in a few minority of Igbos like Onlytruth. Here is an extract from my post in case you missed it:
The minority Igbo people who share his mindset (they are the loudest in internet forums such as this),   tend to feel inordinately inferior to other people and, like most neurotics, seek to seem superior to other people - hence the insinuations he made in his post.
Three forumites do not make a whole tribe.

If you are seeking a tribal fight from me, you will end up doing the fighting alone.

Are you insinuating that the Igbo man will turn out to be the most qualified in most spheres of society?
Don't expect a straight answer from Onlytruth. The minority Igbo people who share his mindset (they are the loudest in internet forums such as this),   tend to feel inordinately inferior to other people and, like most neurotics, seek to seem superior to other people - hence the insinuations he made in his post.

The Igbos like him, do not like their felt inferiority and compensate with desire for superiority. They feel an obsessive-compulsive desire to seem superior to their environment and acts as if they are superior to other people. They tell other people lie about themselves; they tells tall tales that would seem to make them seem superior in other people’s eyes. They hope that they have deceived those they are lying to and that they have accepted their make belief stories of success.

You will find the traits I've described in one form or the other in forumites like OnlyTruth, Professor dede1 (his posts read like extracts from PhD thesis),  Eziachi (He is the only one that fought in the civil war and single handedly killed 5 lions and 4 turtles), and many others.  But not to worry, Ndu_Chucks is here to keep them honest smiley

I thought you spent hour trying to tell the world that Igbos wanted grab the whole Niger Delta but according to you the same victim of the grabbing is now maltreating, marginalizing or murdering the presecutors.
Eziachi, you of all people should know that I raise my voice against injustice metted out to Nigerians regardless of the victims' tribes or states.

What I find interesting is that people like you are willing to overlook the attrocities I pointed out because of the prize (ND oil fields) in your new biafra.  I stand proud to be a Nigerian and will battle seccesionists like you, who have not learnt anything from the civil war, to submission.

I know you are not a ND indigene of the Igbo extraction, so I'm not surprised that the lives of the Igbos that have been killed by MEND and other terrorists in the ND are not worth a darn thing to you. Shame on you!

We all should condemn violence against any Nigerian, and it should not matter whether the violence and injustice is carried out against the almanjiris, the ogonis, ndiigbo of delta state, or christians from Kaduna state.

Here's the article, titled "Igbos of Delta State and Crisis of Identity" :

http://www.nigeriansinamerica.com/articles/2846/1/Igbos-of-Delta-State-and-Crisis-of-Identity-Part-1/Page1.html

Extract:

If there is any separate and distinct tribal group that has been contributing a lot to the development of Nigeria, it is none other than the Igbos of delta state. I believed that if  IBB’s regime had given  us our cherished Anioma State, we would have fared better than under the present gang-like hegemony of the Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ezon, Isoko and Ijaw. We  never bargained for this present raw deal with IBB. In fact, we were better off under the Benin Kingdom than under the present Urhobo ‘Korokoro’ arrogant domination and hegemonic tendencies.
More, read the rest yourselves

The irony of this act of impunity is that the same people  who are fighting for injustice in the Niger Delta are deliberately and consciously denying the Igbo-speaking people justice in Delta State. The ubiquitous James Ibori, as a former governor of the state, was virtually operating from Warri, leaving Asaba in the most despicable state of disrepair. How can you be crying foul against the Federal government and fighting for justice when your stock is virtually denying Igbos in Delta State the same justice?

As to the claim that ibo constitutes about 30% of ND indegenes, many in ND believe that the number may be close to less than 5% rather than the 30% you are claiming as fact.  Please provide supporting evidence to substantiate your claims.  White lies will not cut it here.

Beaf, your newly found supercilious attitude is very unbecoming.  You seem to no longer have any respect for your fellow Niger Deltans that have a differing opinion,  you now believe that any Niger Deltan that does not share your view is a yoruba, hausa, or even latino.  This is the kind of superiority complex that was characteristic of Adolf Hitler.

Learn to accept that some of your relatives will sometimes disagree with you, and when that happens, try to present your points instead of accusing them of being outsiders.

Note that Ijaws, like many other ethnic groups in Nigeria, have also been fighting among themselves and againsts the Itsekiri, Yorubas, Urhobos, Edos, and etc. These conflicts are a fact of life that have been managed, thankfully, without escalation.  For you to come here and call the killing of Igbos by millitant elements in the Niger Delta tall tales, is dishonest and disgraceful.

You should apologize to the Igbos on behalf of MEND and other millitant elements who have perpetrated these crimes against the Igbos of the Niger Delta.  Be man enough to admit that the killings took place, condemn it, and move on. This has nothing to do with some divide and rule principle - what is bad, is bad, whichever way you slice it.

I await your apology - l however do not expect it.  I leave you with the follwing Igbo adage "Ubochi aka ga-akpara Eze Udene, o kwuo ndimmuo chiri ya eze" - The day the King of Vultures will be apprehended, it will reveal the spirit that crowned it.

It is better to focus energies on the real enemy, rather than pursue quarrels with the Ijaw. The time to forget the past has come and we can see that with quite a few powerful Igbo's already making telling statements, especially in these trying times. Don't listen to tall tales about MEND killing anybody, it is very well known that MEND avoids civilian casualties and always offers apologies when they occur. Don't fall for rumours spread by the vipers amongst us, if MEND's attacks have never been secret.

It is in the interest of the SS and SE to remain united.
Beaf, there has been reports that 973 (and likely more) Ikwerres have died between 2003-2008 because of attacks by militant groups such as  MEND.  Are you denying this on behalf of MEND?  If you are calling these killings, tall tales, then shame on you.

I would have expected you to issue an apology on behalf of MEND and continue to pursue the interest you say the SS and SE have, to remain united.  One of the requirements of Unity is to be brutally honest and not be in denial when it comes to issues such as this.

I don't think the relatives of the Igbo victims of these MEND attacks will appreciate anyone who deems the senseless attacks as tall tales.

@Onlytruth, you are typically not lazy when it comes to digging out the truth in several matters. I wonder why you are being lazy in this case and are quick to dismiss claims that MEND killed Igbos, hundreds of them.  Might it be because, you are willing to overlook the affair because of the ultimate prize your people will win, once your new biafra, which will include the niger delta oil fields, is formed? smiley

I never even knew that the MEND is killing some south south Igbos. I hope this is not true because it would really mean the end for them. Ndigbo don't even need to fight them. All we need do is stand back and give green light to the federal government. There is too much urgency in Abuja to deal ruthlessly with MEND once and for all. This topic is really educational.
To be frank, I was suprised to learn that the bolded portion above may be true, prompting me to post extracts from one of the articles that reported the killing of Igbos by MEND. I am still waiting for our in-house MEND apologists, and well meaning South Southerners alike, to tell us the truth or be bold enough to admit the truth. So far, it appears that they'd rather sweep the issue under the carpet and claim that all is well.

I repost an extract from the said article below:

What about the native Igbo groups of the Niger Delta? Ekpeye, lkwerre, Ogba, Egbema, Ndoni, Etche, and other other groups? Well they fought and died on both sides of the Nigerian civil war too. People like Elechi Amadi (clearly Igbo) fought against Biafra. He was viewed as a traitor by the Igbo people and he helped start the "independent Ikwerre ethnic nationalist movement" to exclude themselves from the Igbo people. Many other Igbo people in the "South-South" excluded themselves from the Igbo to avoid discrimination. However, these efforts have been a blatant failure. These "Igboid" groups in the region, are still being discriminated against. That is why Anioma people or Midwestern Igbos want to create an Anioma state. The leadership crisis between the Ijaw and Igbo groups in Rivers state and the "South-South" has been very bad. After the war, Southern Igbo communities were divided and carved in the new Rivers state and disclaimed their Igbo heritage. Rivers Igbo communities like Obigbo becoming Oyigbo, Umuola becoming Rumuola, Umueme becoming Rumueme, and etc. While the trend continued, Ijaws held control over Port Harcourt (Igwe Ocha). However, when Bayelsa state was created in 1996, the Igbo groups have been dominating Rivers state. This has led to political and cult battles between Igbos and Ijaws in the state. Even in Bayelsa state the dominant Ijaws are discriminating against Igbo groups. Edwin Clark, Tam David West, MEND, Atiku Tom, and other Ijaw nationalists and extremists were against Odili (former Rivers state governor) in his campaign for 2007 presidency because of his Igbo background. Recently, there has been a report that 973 (and likely more) Ikwerres have died between 2003-2008 because of attacks by militant groups such as MEND and Atiku Tom. Aren;t these militant groups supposed to be fighting for justice? Why are they killing native Igbos in the Niger Delta? It seems that the Ijaw rebels are fighting for their own selfish interests against Nigeria and the West.
Politics › Re: Why Are The Ibos Hell Bent On Claiming The Niger Delta Even Tho It Aint Theirs by nduchucks: 3:02pm On Jan 15, 2010
What seems clear is that there has always been conflicts between tribal groups in every part of Nigeria. It will be foolhardy to believe that there are no tribal conflicts or disagreements between the Igbos/Ijaws .

I'd be very much interested in being educated on the relationship that exist between Igbos and "Niger Deltans". I read an account in an article by Akobundu Anyiwo, which I find quite troubling. I will post an extract of that article so that more knowledgeable people can help us understand the regional dynamics of the area.

Extract
In the May issue, we discussed how the relationship between Igbos and Niger Deltans have been destroyed by colonialism. However, I did not get into enough details about native Igbos in Niger Delta and the ongoing bloody conflict between them and their Ijaw neighbors over land and oil. It is not only the native Igbos the Ijaws have a problem with, they have also been fighting among themselves, against the Itsekiri, Yorubas, Urhobos, Edos, and etc. It seems that the Ijaw militant groups want the Ijaws to control all of the Niger Delta region's resources since they are the majority. It also seems that too many Igbos aren’t ignoring this. I'm not sure how you want justice if you are doing and ignoring the injustice of others. This applies to both sides of the conflict- both Ijaws and Igbos. In this article, we will look at the conflict from both sides.
He continued:

In part one of this article, we discussed Isaac Adaka (Igbo name) Boro, the Ijaw rebel against the regional/federal Nigerian governments and finally Biafra in the the late 1960s. We have also already discussed how he was used by the Nigerian government against his own Igbo neighbors and was later killed by the federal government. Though there were (and still are) several Ijaw supporters of Biafra like Frank Apugo who selected the name Biafra, the majority of Ijaws and other non Igbo groups in the riverine areas opposed Biafra in fear of Igbo domination. But why would they fear "Igbo domination"? Well for one, the Eastern Nigerian government dominated by the Igbo, denied minorities of Eastern Nigeria statehood.

Notice how Isaac Adaka (Igbo name) Boro, the Ijaw rebel, rebelled against the regional/federal Nigerian governments and was arrested by the Ironsi regime in 1966. It has been said that the Northerners took advantage of this and funded Boro's revolt. When Gowon (military head of Nigeria at the time) divided Nigeria into twelve states, they gave the eastern minorities statehood. This bought numerous support by the Eastern minorities especially the Ijaw elements in the old Rivers state and the Federal government used this divide and conquer technique to their fullest advantage. The federal government freed Adaka Boro the day before the war broke out to help them against Biafra and the federal government eventually killed him in 1968. The Biafran troops did commit atrocities to non-Igbo groups including Ijaws during the war. Particularly during the midwestern invasion from July to August 1967 in retaliation of the anti-Igbo sentiment. So you can see why many Ijaws (Edwin Clark especially) and other non-Igbo riverine groups (including Ken Saro Wiwa who humiliated Igbos on a daily basis in the 1970s in the newspaper and among his Ogoni people) threw their support to the federal government during and after the war.
More,

What about the native Igbo groups of the Niger Delta? Ekpeye, lkwerre, Ogba, Egbema, Ndoni, Etche, and other other groups? Well they fought and died on both sides of the Nigerian civil war too. People like Elechi Amadi (clearly Igbo) fought against Biafra. It seems that the Ijaw rebels are fighting for their own selfish interests against Nigeria and the West.
Conclusion

So what are Igbo people doing about this? Besides MASSOB and others, Igbo people are standing aside as this conflict goes on or are just ignorant. In fact, few Igbos, like many others including Ijaws, are benefiting from the oil exploitation of the Niger Delta region. Former Rivers governor Odili is no exception. Many Igbos either do not care, see the injustice against the Niger Deltans as payback for betraying them in the war, or are against the idea of using necessary force against the Federal government and the West. Many of the Igbo people who support the Ijaw militants, are unaware or do not care what they are doing to their Rivers Igbo kith and kin. That people are ignoring this, is actually ridiculous. I understand that that we need to look at the bigger picture-- imperialism is the real enemy and has been the enemy since the slave trade. However, ignoring the murders of our people by our people is out of the question.

All Igbo people in the South-South who are denying their Igbo blood need to stop because it doesn't make any difference. Us Igbo people need to re-civilize ourselves and drop this failing individualist colonial mentality and reunite within ourselves and our neighbors. Ijaw and other Eastern minorities need to wake up from these anti-Igbo and Igbophobia feelings and realize they really need Igbo people's support the most. The masses of Niger Deltans need to understand that not all Igbo people want "Igbo domination" but Igbos like MASSOB, Igbo Kwenu organization, and others want justice and freedom for all of our people. Oil has honestly been a curse because the native people are not enjoying it but rather suffering and fighting each other while foreign strangers and their allies exploit them. You cannot call Igbos greedy if your own people like Edwin Clark, corrupt state governors, tribalistic militant groups, and other native oil thieves are the real number one enemies. "Igbo domination" is no longer a threat if militants are injustly killing Igbos while the rich Western elite are taking advantage of both of us. We need to take responsibilities of our own actions and not blame others for our misfortunes. If we want justice, freedom and peace we have to find it within ourselves and live by it. Until then, things will continue to get worse because we are dividing ourselves while fighting the same struggle against a common enemy.
Comments, analysis, and alternative views are welcome.

The only thing that can be confirmed, from a source who was in court was the ruling that Jonathan has right to perform all duties on behalf of sick President Umaru Yar'Adua without any formal transfer of power.

My source said there was pandomonium in court after the ruling, to the extent that the verbal order to swear Jonathan in with immediate effect, may have been drowned out in the ensuing confusion and noice.

In my humble opinion, given the ruling, Jonathan should immediately sack the Attorney General and take the bull by the horn. He has the power to do it , the order is not being appealed - he can checkmate the AG only by sacking him tonight, not tommorrow.

Talking from both sides of the mouth is duplicitous and dishonest. What you said is racist, period!
I have better things to do than argue with a racist who isn't man enough to own up.
Beaf is not known to run away from superior arguments unless he has no counter point. racist ko, white supremacist ni. We are all of one race in Nigeria unless you or your ancestors are not Black. If you accuse me of tribalism, you may have a locus standi; but this ya racism accusation is irrational.

React to my criticism of Jonathan unless you are incapable of criticising him because you are one of his kinfolks.

I have always said it that you think "olodo" is the same thing as fullstop.
Please answer my question (you seem to have narrowed it down to ND now), do you think Niger Delta people are inferior to you?
It terms of human characteristics, I absolutely do not believe that I am superior to any human being on earth. Don't be ridiculous.  I will however admit to you that I have encountered many of ya people and my people who are intellectually inferior to me. You yourself be intellectual midget.  smiley

Back to point, in case you conveniently ignored this, let me repost it here:

From all indications, Jonathan has already squandered several opportunities to take the bull by the horn - its quite a pity.

From the court judgement/ruling:
Furthermore, the court observed that on the basis of the delegation by the president, the VP can exercise the powers of the president which he has been lawfully discharging in the interest of good governance for the nation pending the return of the president.
Jonathan will be my hero if he does the following:

(1)Use his authority to sack the Attorney General with immediate effect
(2)Find a judge to swear him in as acting president, and let the chips fall where they may

once again, unless he is a coward like some of his kinfolks.

Who is trying to confuse you?
You made an incredibly racist comment which you have no shame to take back. The only way you can recognise that as not racist is if you think that the rest of Nigerians are inferior to you. So stop twisting, do you think the rest of us Nigerians are inferior to you?
Racist statement? That's a stretch. I, like Jonathan also have kinfolks who are cowards. Please go and read my previous post which I have since edited and respond to important points.

I may be more of a Niger Deltan that you yourself are, olodo.

First of all explain how "he is a coward like many of his kinfolks".
Beaf, I know you are aware that I am not one of those you can dribble in an attempt to confuse.  Go and reread my statement, I never wrote that Goodluck is a coward. Additionally, cowards exists among any group of kinfolks you examine - that's a simple fact.

Now, you give us the same courtesy and tell us what is very painful to Hausa/Fulani, as you put it.

The court has told Jonathan that he is free to act as President, and the court additionally ordered that Jonathan should be sworn in immediately.

Jonathan now needs to be a man and take what is rightfully his, that is unless he is a coward like many of his kinfolks.

What exactly does "immediately" mean in this instance. Is it tomorrow, two days time, next week? We need to know.
"Immediately" means just that.  The question is, do we have any judge with the guts to swear in Jonathan? I suspect that the attorney general is preparing an appeal to the case as we speak.

Jonathan needs to use this new found power to get one of the appropriate parties to swear him in.

I have never been evasive in my perception of Nigeria; an abominable colonial contraption, the most artificial country on the planet, the country with the largest concentration of dubious spineless hypocrites who want to go to haven without embracing the reality of death (I am not excluding myself here). In a nutshell, we are in this cesspit because we chose to. It is not about the "elites'' , unless someone is telling me the so called elites "holding us down" were imported from another universe. However, the situation is not entirely hopeless because we have options.
Someone finally mentiond the "elites holding us down". Er, for this new nation of yours to become a reality, you must first wrestle political and economic power from the so-called elite and mobilize the masses against them.

What are your realistic plans of doing these things? How do you plan to chase the likes of OBJ, IBB, Ibori, Tinubu, Ojukwu, Kalu, Soludo, and others, who do no share your vision, out of the country. These people will fight you to the end to prevent you from your dream of Southern Nigeria.
