how is a jeep different from a suv, beside how much you pay to purchase one?
|
the evolution and adaptation of eep from off road usage (including amphibious) to boulevard cruising is what brought the cosmetically sounding name SUV. Jeep had always been a Utility Vehicle, the word sport was added for yuppies with country homes who wanted to pack golf kitties and kayak and bicycle racks with camping gears along when they go hiking. The Jeep is a perfect match for all that. there was jeep for the traveller, a jeep for the army, a jeep for the fire brigade, a jeep for the butcher.......i could swear even sunday gboku gboku had a jeep hearse.

Is this physics? I cant believe my eyes, "physics in nairaland"! It takes a story on Bini to get you out here. Well, since your roots are in Ife when you see us talking Oduduwa come out and do owambe sometime. ![]() |
Fashola enjoy media....period! He takes pictures with Oba of Lagos even when it would seem pictures aren't necessary. Thats just a personal warmth, nothing more to it. |
This victim must be one of Odenigbo_Arole's people. He is from onballa. odenigbo, sorry for this your loss o, dia nu o. |
nigerians are full of buwlshyyt, i tell ya! before google or wiki, nigerians were driving land rovers (made by Leyland and with jerry can hatch in back), land cruisers (back when it was datsun)..... sport utility vehicle is a hollywood stage name for off-road four wheel drive. Thats what Jeep is! my God! ....we take education do reverse some time for this country. |
Dede1: What a bloody fool. I guess you have never seen a military parade ground in your entire miserable life. Military is strictly regimented and will not tolerate a patchy uniform talk less of wearing uniform out of formal protocol. Nigerian military culture and tradition are rooted in the British armed forces.Canada and America, like Nigeria, were once British commonwealth. Canada and America no longer keep to the British protocol. Britain does not have a licensed right on how or in what format your military apparels are worn. Because Nigerian Army is a conventional fighting force it is bound by crrtain protocols to keep within a degree of complianc but is not as narrow and constricting as you have alarmed it to be. If the regimen are so tight as you portray it, then Idi Amin would have been court martialed for his numerous military uniform and rank violations alone. |
bobobabe: @ OP, this is not jeep, this is LEXUS SUV.owkaay! ![]() |
Damn. Why did they kill him?
ekt, you said why did they kill him.....or you meant "when" did they kill him! Im telling you, gambari and yanmiri were created from the left over primordial soil dumped out from Ile Ife. There is not a distinct difference in their savage nature. |
who is this person called sunny obo? wetin be all this nonsense you dey yarn? why all these propaganda. what exactly do you hope to achieve by it? i tell you what, who is your eze here in nland, is it onlytruth or odumchi? |
Dede1: It is the height of stupidity on the part of governor Obi to spend the money meant for the people of Anambra State on Nigerian army.you love parading your stewpidity in public square. what military convention says you can have one or the other but not both styles? |
NRI PRIEST: Point of correction, big hommie,Anambra is not "cash strapped". Anambra goverment is financially strong. Go figure.listen to this stewpid omanbala @#%. Obi should be rehabilitating all these criminals your state exports to other lands. if he really is concerned about improving security. |
I discovered why ndigbos are psychologically attached to governor of Lagos. His initials, BRF, spelt backwards is FRB, which stands for Federal Republic of Biafra.. yanmiri make una leave Fashola alone o, go spend the energy to find your abracadabra givernor Chime wey don dissapear for 3months and counting. |
gov Obi is buying concessions from the brigade. ![]() |
pagan9ja, You are a bad face for paganism. I have chosen to watch this topic from sideline but I was hoping that if anyone would lead the contributions with educative and informative posts you should be in the top 5 rank, however your contributions are shallow and off mark. You excel at attacking good contributions than you do sharing knowledge and ingenuity. I am challenging you, for all the noise you make attacking cultural beliefs, to now use this great opportunity to teach and inform us on the dark mysteries of reincarnation. |
Ikengawo: Oshun@op, In the field of classical myths, the deities/gods are portrayed as posessing powerful forces and thus different archetypes. There are deities portrayed in one narration as malevolent energy and in a different exposure as a benevolent energy. All people and civilizations that had classical pasts knew this. In this aspect Yoruba myths share commonality with Greek, Roman, Indian, Chinese, Egyptian, ..... Ikengawo, does your culture have a classical past? If it did this knowledge should not be new to you. |
Here is the trail: IFE > 16 Beaded Crowns/ 7 political States (insignia of office = Blade/Sword) OYO > Olofin left Oyo to settle on the coast (Eko) with Olokun deity (insignia = Horse whisk) BINI > Yoruba Crown and State (displaced Ogiso- Edo) (insignia = Blade/Sword) EKO > Olofin needed permanent protection against repeated invasions from Dahomey who was hell bent on posessing the salt mines of Mahin. Oyo could not afford to station cavalry on the coast. Bini responded to the call and chased Dahomey back. Olofin camped Bini forces in Eko. Their relationship of alliance was productive, Bini gained from the salt trade and Eko gained from the security. This is how the Bini prince Asikpa became a permanent resident of Eko and his descendants to date. On descendancy, there are two dynasties in the royal blood today. The first was Akinsemoyin, the second and the one on the throne now is Ologunkutere. |
I already gave you hint on 8th day above in my firstresponse. If i have to go deeper i would need to enroll you in my class. There is a cost. ![]() |
odumchi: Eze Aro is not a religious leader.Odumchi, has your Eze term started? Can you please educate us on the Igbo monarchs, titles, roles and tiers. thank you. By the way, you and a few other people here are only ones I respect as Igbo and will approach to learn from. So my inquiry is a serious one. |
You are welcome ![]() It is both a custom and a celebration. In Yoruba customs there are rites for the born, the living and the dead. Ijo mejo (the 8th day) rites for the dead. Look at number 8 above and what it means. There is also a 40 day rite for the departed and we fry akara. |
Fashola utter some disgusting and reprehensible statements some time. He carries his omoluabi too far out to the edge of foolishness. We need a more Yoruba centric governor. We dont want a governor that sponsors ceremony for Ojukwu burial or memorial: dont want a governor that opens public square for BZM to declare and promote and fly Biafran flag on a land they are hostile to: dont want a governor that honors a man who is. unrepentant and unremorseful about dishonoring Awolowo. Achebe declined a national honor from FG and has published a book dismissing efforts by Nigeria to reunite the warring sides, so what scholarship is Fashola projecting when he blames and condemns FG for Achebes irresponsibility? This man is nursing Presidency and is throwing us under the bus to woo sentiments in East. Eko Ile come defend your foolish governor. Which kin nonsense be dis....is this the new vogue of scholarship? |
I dont know much about the igbo monarchy and their roles...I know the titles but dont have a clue how the titles rank in terms of roles . For example, using the ones I know. Ooni of Ife is a Priest-King title and the overall first tier ruler of Yoruba race. Alaafin of Oyo is the political King of the Yoruba sovereingty (not the race, only the sovereingty) and tributes from all Kings in the commonwealth must go to him. Omo N'Oba will pay tribute to Ife but not to Oyo. Oba of Lagos must pay tribute to both Bini and Oyo. In North, Sultan is the Priest-King of all Emirates (not the fulani race and not the hausa race....just the conquered thrones or seat of political power). Therefore, even though the Kanuris are muslims, they do not pay tribute to Sultan. All the Emirates, including Ilorin pay tribute to Sultan but the Yorubas do not.....this is why they have the Balogun. Each Emirate is autonomous and sovereign and the Emir draws tribute from Sarki (King) of sub domains. So to rank the monarchs as the op requests will be difficult without first understanding their roles, tiers and functions. You cannot lump a Sarki of Gumel for instance with Emir of Katsina. |
decoder dgenius: Diezani Allison Madueke is nextyou no lie! and do you know why all these shenanigans is going on? this is a plot by ndigbo to frame a platform of syndicated terror that is so high staked that the givernment is drawn to a negotiating table and their kidnappin crime is purchased through amnesty funds. i tell you, e no go better for yanmiri. oh, i forgot, ...did you not hear they have an association of kidnappers already? That will be their media mouthpiece soon when they start making demands on FG to buy them out. The same fvkng amnesty criminals, whether of creek or of alaigbo or upper desert....they go carry the money come build mansion for lekki. |
ify dear, how you dey my sister. . |
Yoruba had a number of ancient manuscripts related in what you could call "scriptural creeds". Ifa is one of them. There was a manuscript unearthed in a dig and was supposed to have been retained for anthropological studies but no one know its whereabouts but rumors indicate it was archived in Vatican. I don't know how far this is true. Some scholars here probably can help share more light on that, Id love to learn more about it. Then there is "Edi". Edi, based on several accounts was passed down from Noahdic time. In Yorubaland today, the Ogboni Mystical Order are the stewards and custodians of Edi. Ogboni is an earth order and so quite naturally I would expect Edi to be a covenant. Why do I bring this up? ![]() There are certain numbers or numerals in Yoruba cosmology that are known and proven to be the revelations to life cycles. Those who master them are indeed highly enlightened...illuminated! These numbers include the following, these are just a few of them. 1 .... the origin (the veiled) 2......the earth. (time, space, distance......relativity and so on) 3......mankind (the manifest) 4......mother (fixed, stable, firm, sustenance, nurture) 7......womb (gateway, prodution, prosperity, opening, emergence) 8......resurrect (born again, submission, sacrifice, die, rebirth, transform) 9......father (priest, society, order, heirarchy, growth) ....so it continues...... 40....awakening. This is not a alchemy class but I wanted to just share a bit of the why, how, where and what with you in response to your opening post. Most parents are themselves so far detached from the culture that they lack the knowledge to explain and therefore reinforce the importance and benefit of the 41st day outing of the baby. There is a lot that go into it, including formula computing but like I said, we are not in alchemy and I dont want to start one here. On the 40th day of a new born, there is an awakening in the child. The child must be remanded in a retreat from birth until that day when he/she is brought out for first time....which is the 41st day. It is a ritual. The puff puff is celebratory, a merriment announcing the completion of the retreat and the outing of the new born. Hope I helped. |
