Katsumoto:

That is assuming that there is no inverse relationship between the poor management in government and good management in telecom/finance industries.

For instance, bad leaders create monopolies and duopolies in certain industries. The financial strength of those companies in such industries is not down to their competence and ability but due to the relationship that exists between government and certain individuals. For instance, Carlos Slim is the world's richest man and made his money from Mexican telecoms but yet, his firm is never used as a case study for management and innovation simply because he controls the Mexican telecoms industry. Many such examples abound in Nigeria.

there is no field more accomodating of competition and elimination than in politics......particularly with the constant scrutiny and worship by the media.

if you cross them over and bring these political leaders into industries they will perform well. they have layers of checks and balances and accountability is hands-on.

if you take the industrial leaders and put them in political office they will fail. the layers of checks and balances in government is refined on paper but very loose and has no teeth in practice......it is hands-off approach.

thats not an attribute of poor educatiin.

....here we go, it's another rainy season starting grin

the igbo paranoia with "victimization" syndrome is about to start with it. ....from now until they hold new yam festival we will hear whines of hatred plots to wipe igbo out

Ohaneze is the apex igbo socio-political authority worldwide. The presidency has advisers of igbo blood. There are igbo people in the cabinet of this president. Igbos are represented in the senate and house.

So the youth wing of the body that is the voice and face of igbo worldwide has been invited by presidential adviser reuben abati and none of the igbo government officials are involved in the coordination? Why did these youths not contact ahead and inform their constituency leaders in Abuja of the invitation and ask for liaisons and guides to facilitate a successful meeting for them?

Fhemmmy:

And what is education?

In absolute terms, the answer is broad. To stay within topic i will narrow it down and say Fashola made the cimment in context of academic scholarship; by which he meant if our leaders had sound "academic training" the Nigerian political situation would be better evolved and prospered.

In the financial sector our leaders are doing good. In the industrial and services sector our leaders are doing good and so in the telecomms sector. The people that lead these sectors of our general economy sat in the same classroom and received the same tutoring as our leaders in politics. Si what's the differentiator, why is one side performing and the side is failing?

Zero accountability! Indiscipline!! Poor judgement!!!

If our political office holders have something to loose the instinct to self-preserve will stimulate them to serve us in faith......as it stands they have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

I disagree. Poor judgement and lack of vision is the root of our endemic poor leadership, not poor education. Nigerian leaders received far better education than the leaders in say, Tanzania or Zambia or Niger. Thos three countries perform far better for their people and their countries.

ABUJA — The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, the apex social-cultural cum political body of Igbo people world over, Chief Gary Enwo- Igariwe, has said that the position of the group on the proposed amnesty for Boko Haram Islamic sect by the Federal Government in Kano State last week was wrongly presented in the media, saying the option of amnesty was treated in isolation. Speaking with Vanguard Sunday, Chief Igariwe regretted the embarrassment the issue had caused him, pointing out that the group’s position was that Ohanaeze would support any option of the Federal Government to bring lasting peace in the country to guarantee a healthy atmosphere for economic activities. His words: “The statement on amnesty should not be taken in isolation. What was on ground was the issue of anything that can be done to bring peace because our people want to live in peace in their environment, everything, including every option of government. That was my statement. Igbo will support anything that will bring peace.”

....so why the re-dedication of loyalty and peace to Kwankwaso and Bayero They did same thing during Ladipo stalemate bringing Rochas and an Eze in tow to dedicate peace to Fashola in Lagos.

Everyone wants peace but I dont see Yoruba leaders, with their Oba in tow, going North or East to dedicate peace and tribute and neither is North going West or East. So why are Ibos doing this? Tell your Ohanaeze and Massob to stop this nonsense. Hausa should be coming with their Sarki to your land to beg forgivenes...not the other way around.

ndu_chucks:

Are you declaring that OPC is in possession of illegal weapons and that your Obas are accomplices in the criminal acquisition of those weapons? Being the law abiding citizen that you are, we hope you will understand when those criminal elements of OPC and their Oba sponsors are incarcerated.

first, who determines what weapon is illegal?

see picture of OPC on a parade. after this event in public witnessed by all the law agencies and statutory authorities the question of legality should have been raised if indeed there existed a conflict or violation. it is on record no sanctions, arrests, warnings, raid or prohibitions were issued against OPC.

it cannot be said that these agencies and authorities are ineffective in interpreting the law because we are always reminded of that in the way they raid, arrest, prohibit and sanction massob in SE and everything remotely connected with group meetings or street protest or parade is closely watched and surveilled for illegality and crime. Going by number of arrests, lockups, seizures in SE, it is fair to say these law and security agencies are competent in interpreting "legality". massob is not within legality. that rule does not apply to OPC.

moreover, we have also witnessdd on numerous occassions where OPC had mounted surveillance on suspected activities and through proaction of its involvement criminals have been arrested, in some cases crimes were even prevented. OPC is a detterent force and a response force as well when required. Their formations is structured after the old Oyo Force, with a front deployment and a reserve squad. The community vigilante work has produced commendable results and the backing of community leaders is a testimony to that. Their work is also recognized and acknowledged by DAWN and Afenifere.

any other question?

ndiofeajoka: Following the threats made by northern leaders yesterday about their readiness to break up, Afenifere Leader, Dr. Reuben Fasoranti, has cautioned the Northern leaders against their threat that the North is not afraid of the breaking of Nigeria.

A leader of the Arewa Elders Forum, Prof. Ango Abdulahi, on Wednesday said the North was prepared to go alone if the nation breaks up, adding that the North would not, however, champion the disintegration of the country.
Fasoranti told our correspondent in an interview in Akure that the news came to him as a shock.

He said, “I strongly appeal to the Northern leaders against such move because it would never be in their interest.

Only a fool would head up North, there is no tactical advantage. You go to the capital, that is where the devils planning war on Biafra are located. Banjo did well for Biafra, but his refusal to see his mission to the end was a major error, NO intelligent general would have passed up that opportunity to end the war by striking the snake at the head. He must however be noted for the successful liberation of the Mid West.

you did not go north because you feared hausa, choosing instead to go terrorize small communities of people who were neutral. well the capital is in north now and for all the ibo massacres since how many times have you punched back?

God forbid that Yoruba should camp tent with an IMPOTENT, COWARD tribe.

the civil war was an opportunity for ibo to face off with its oppressor, instead of heading north to the enemy territory where they were massacred they headed west and south, first planting a biafran flag in ijaw/ogoni land, then erecting another in midwest complete with a new ruler of ibo extraction. Were they really interested in ending their oppression and massacre in north or were they greedily seeking to occupy and own lands they have coveted for decades? They sabotaged their own cause.

Yoruba cannot afford to be on battlefield with these saboteurs.

While all around them - relatives and friends - blindly supported genocide, and still do, they spoke up against evil. God bless them. A memorial must be created for them in the Biafran relm after the demise of Nigeria.

add Victor Banjo there. Plenty Yoruba struggled so you can be freed from your oppressors. You fvkd up when instead of heading north to fight your oppressor you headed west to fight a friend, ended up with a new enemy and the demolition of biafra.

rhymz: which OPC is ranting? These igbo smoking and shekpe drinking ruffians with the heart of a chicken na im wan defend Lagos? With what exactly? Blunt matchets and egg bombs and petty charms?
How exactly do they intend to defend Lagos? Through reprisals on innocent Hausa people?
Seriously, the mob mentality in Yoruba followership is begining to give impetus to every Jester to assume to speak for the Yorube tribe.
Killing innocent Hausa people is not a form of defence, somebody should tell Mr Moronic Adam, he seem to want attention by all means, no wonder serious Yoruba leaders are not paying him any mind.
Anyone that thinks killing innocent Hausa people in Idiara, Apapa and the likes is an act of courage is an ediot that should not be taken seriously. There are tonnes of Yoruba people in Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Adamawa and many other Northern states, may be those morons in OPC should remember them before making inflamatory statements just for effects and attention. BokoHaram menace is not some form of tribal fight with the people involved revealing themselves in the process, their method of attack leaves everyone in the vicinity dead including themselves. You don't fight a sect like that by killing men from their tribes cos they will gladly do so if those same men openly went against them.
Yoruba leaders and the likes of Tinubu and Adams need to be carefull with their sychophant utterances, politicizing the the kind of crimes that BokoHaram commits and downplaying them as minor is a slap to those innocent victims, let alone prescribing a niger-deltan styled amnesty. It is like that ediotic Tinubu has lost all sense of morals in his sychophantic pursuit for power, he is ready to tell his masters anything they want to hear to win their support including trivilizing the havoc that the BH sect has been wrecking. He that refuses to listen should be made to feel it. Yoruba leaders need to stop some of these stunts they pull to curry favour from the north, winning elections and being in the opposition does not neccessarily grant you some political genius or a clean moral slate. The erratic nonsense they say at different fora indirectly gives impetus and some kind of tacit justification to the BH sect and their wicked act. On what ground will the BH sect be given amnesty? What exactly is the injustice they are fighting for; killing innocent by-standers in cowardly attacks and hiding at the borders is no cause.
How can anyone in their right senses label what Bokoharam does as minor and call for them to be spoilt silly with gifts of money and sorts. Na the kind politicians way majority of SW people dey follow be this? No wonder APC is dead on arrival, with desperados like this one who will want to join.
Yoruba people make una use una head and call ina elders to order when they go about inflaming the country just to curry favour, that style of politics is defeatist and does no one any good. Enough of the follow follow abeg!

Why do Ibos call their oppressors "innocent"? Are your brothers massacred in North by Hausa not innocent?
