One of the very last I'll be creating as our site will soon be live.

Another report has it that the guy wasn't beaten but that he fell off the wall as he was sighted and scared by the prison guards. I'm a Numan resident and this was what one of the guards at the prison told me.

My website developer has traveled down to Lagos among other things to be able to upload the content of my site online. He's called to tell me the internet speed in Lagos is good so within a couple of days, we should have our site ready!

I heard what sounded like gunshots this morning but I ignored it. When I went out later in the afternoon, a lady told me boko boys had attacked Numan prison and freed the inmates. Curious to find out what happened, I took a walk to the prison and when I got there, the heavy presence of security men suggested that something had gone wrong but the prison gates were intact.

Inquiring from residents near the prison, I was told one prisoner attempted to escape last night. He was caught by the mopols guarding the prison and beaten to death. His corpse was then thrown to the other prisoners to serve as deterrent to those nursing the thought of escaping. I gathered that the guy who attempted to escape was one of the boko boys that were recently brought to the prison.

On sighting the corpse of their colleague, the other inmates rioted and attempted to break out. This led to firing of gunshots and the use of tear gas by the mopol and the prisons armed squad to the bring the situation to order. The JTF were also called to the scene and at the time of writing this the situation is under control.

Before I left the prison, the Adamawa state controller of prisons who was in Abuja at the time the incident occurred had flown in and had just arrived Numan prisons to see things for himself.

The corpse of the prisoner who died has been taken to Yola.

As I get more details from my friend who's a guard in the prison, I'll keep you posted. He actually was not in the right state of mind to speak to me on the matter as he was tensed and was busy picking up bullets they fired earlier on.
