Piwe Kuchingoro Karamajiji Jikwoyi Deidei Gwagwa Karmo Kado Karshi Orozo Yanya Kurudu Kuje All these god-forsaken jaw-breaking names are places in Abuja. Please don't ask me the meaning because if you ask me, na who I go ask |
A woman can make or mar you. Lamptey's ordeal is another prove to that statement. |
Obiagu1: The question should be: Can Osazie make CSKA Moscow team that Ahmed Musa plays for as a regular?Any day and any time, I will pick Osaze over Musa. For Musa, his final ball or cross is always a disaster and Osaze's ego has no measure. If he can put his ego aside, he can still be useful. Besides, he can play from both wings and play as a lone striker. |
Tolexander: bro, i refuse to believe this award is ethnic oriented but see it as a group that need money from these honourees. Guess you missed where Gov Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna state was honoured or is kaduna in the south east?I saw that too and your submission cant be ruled as well but my case is that most of the awards are given with sentiments based on ethnic lines. This calls to question how credible these awards are! |
Adexymovic: Finally a school with ballsThe highest Fagge and his greedy boys could do is to down their pride and go back to class where they belong. That is the price you pay when you don't put your house in order and speak with one voice. |
Everybody has a price.Just a matter of knowing the price and you see the individual licking your butt. |
Fight, kill, bury corruption and you will be surprised how great this country is. |
This is what you get when your house isn't in order. Many ASUU members are indeed tired of the strike, the reason they want to resume.FG is just capitalizing on the confusion in ASUU.I see FG winning this one because if FG forces resumption and majority of the striking lecturers resume, then the rest will be left with their own fate. When two elephants fight, the grasses suffers. Many grasses have not only suffered but destroyed.I think there is hope for the suffering grasses to resume soon. |
I have observed over time that most awards in Nigeria are given based on ethnic lines and this is not different despite being given abroad.Another case is an award given recently to Punch newspaper where all the winners were yorubas. If you look behind these organizers, dont be surprised that they are Igbos. This shameful habit needs to stopAside the case of Madam Needful,Why give awards to those who have increased poverty in the land?People who loot with reckless abandon and yet we celebrate them. With such trend, there is no how foreign countries will take us seriously. This and many more are the reasons behind the ill-treatment Nigerians get abroad. With the rate at which corruption is going in the country,if care is not taken, this administration will be given a huge space in the Guinness Book of Records as the most corrupt administration ever in the world. There is still time for Jonathan to nip this in the bud. |
Let us call a spade a spade . The two religions will totally prevent their ladies and dudes from going either way. I think this answers your question. |
Uche Jombo Rodriguez is one actress that has grown from the girl next door into a scintillating screen diva. In this interview with Doyin Adeoye, she talked about the transformation in her career, her marriage and style, among other things. WHEN and how did you develop the passion for theatre? It all started when my mother put me in a drama group in church, called the Children of the Lord group. We ministered every Sunday, but I was not really happy about that, because I thought with that, my mother wanted to curtail my excesses, as a tom-boy. Later, when I heard they gave scholarship every quarter, I started competing to win and that was the only time I had an acting experience. I have played every woman in the Bible. So it was a very good starting point for me. How did your foray into the movies professionally begin? It was just about being at the right place at the right time. It was almost like a challenge. I was asked if I could act and I said yes, so I was given a script to read even though that was not what I went to do at the location. And that was how I got my first role from Fidelis Duker in 1999 and eventually the movie, Visa To Hell was released in 2000. Where does the inspiration behind your movies come from? I get my inspiration from people; their true life experiences and also, my environment. This is because I love to make movies that tell human stories, advocacy stories, comedy and many more. You seem to only feature in the high quality movies so to speak, so what makes a good script to you? As an actor, I get scripts all the time, but if the script doesn’t speak to me, I won’t do it. A good script should have impact on people’s lives when the movie comes out. I want situations where people would see me on the street and tell me about how my movies affect their lives positively and that only makes you want to do more. You’ve grown so much in the industry over the years, what were the hurdles crossed at the early stage of your career? I crawled and ran before I got to where I am today. I saw myself through school with the little amount I was being paid, which was over 10 years ago. It was full of struggle but by God’s grace, it’s been a successful story. Now I am a script writer, an actress, producer, and a studio owner. So it’s been splendid. Initially, you played more of ‘Tom boy’ roles, but over time you have grown into a screen diva, how did you achieve that growth? I’m one of those people who would be right if I say I started from a very humble beginning in my career. I did lots of supporting roles and behind the scenes. I think to be consistent at what you do, at a point you should work on yourself more. It was never about money or fame with me. I can’t count how many movies I did without getting paid. So when you pursue whatever you do with a passion and the love you have for it, it might not be that lucrative at the beginning but at the end of the day, every other thing follows. That’s how it’s been for me. What childhood memories have you? My childhood is a huge part of where I am today. I was not an easy child. I did everything teenagers do but probably more. I climbed trees, played football and played cowboy. I was the only female playing football with boys. And at that point, my mum had given up because she felt I thought I was a boy. She was so scared that she had to enroll me in a church drama group and quarterly they give the best drama student scholarship. So three years out of my secondary school fund were paid for by the church. Despite being a celebrity, you seem to be secretive about your private life, how do you manage that? I try to demarcate my personal life from prying eyes. I choose the information I want the public to know about my private life. Desmond Elliot is the closest person to you in Nollywood, what initiated the bond? He is one of my oldest friends in Nollywood. I don’t know anybody as long as I’ve known Desmond in Nollywood, so we are pretty close. [Mrs Rodriguez] Many movie lovers are of the opinion that in recent times, Nollywood movies have lost their touch of creativity, good story lines and originality, and only offer more of just glamour. How would you react to this? I don’t think that is a true assessment of the new Nollywood. Actually in recent times, Nollywood has improved. There is a new influx of smart and intelligent producers, most of whom are actors with considerable years of experience. I now produce movies, I have over 11 titles to my name as an executive producer and those movies have been selling all over the world. Desmond Elliot now produces movies, Rita Dominic does the same. These people have been in Nollywood for years and some of them even went to school to learn more about this profession and judging by the number of awards and accolades we get, Nollywood has left the dark-age. You had a secret wedding last year that it was even rumoured that even your family members didn’t know about it… It is because I don’t want it to be all over the place. The whole point was doing something that is totally unexpected. Also because it has stopped being me and now us, we have to continuously agree to how we want things done. I am from a different background and my partner is from a different background. We just wanted to savour the moment. What really swept you off your feet in your husband, Kenny Rodriguez? I love his positive energy, it’s incredible. When are you planning to have a baby? We are still on it. I’m taking it one day at a time. You left home at the age of 14, what was the reason behind this? Tragedy happened in the family and I just didn’t want to be boxed into the corner. It was a tragedy that turned out to be a wake-up call for me because without that, I think I was heading to self-destructive path. So where did you run off to, because the first thought that would come to mind was that you went off with a man? (Laughs) I ran off to my uncle’s house who was living in Lagos. I stole his address from my mum, without her knowing. I didn’t even know a man at that time. I was running away from a situation, it wasn’t about me as a person so to speak. I just didn’t want to be placed where I saw my future going, so I felt this uncle of mine didn’t know much about my miscreant ways, and I decided to begin a new life with him. What has your career cost you over the years? It has cost me my privacy. People write things about you without getting your side of the story. It’s even worse now because of the internet. Before, we were fighting only the print media, but now, people can publish false stories on the internet. So, I think that is just the down part of the job. But anytime I feel bad about the down part of the job, I always put out the list of what I’m gaining and what I’m not. So far, what I’m gaining is bigger and that is why I’m still here. Have you ever been caught in the web of the media? Yes, it was rumoured once that I had abortion. It was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard about myself. You don’t say someone lost weight because they aborted a six-month pregnancy. That is actually not intelligent because when people are pregnant, they actually add weight. I lost weight for a movie ‘Holding Hope’ and that was what started the whole thing. Also there was another one that they said I did a nose job. Of all the things I could do to my body, is it my nose I would want to fix? Sometimes, you pick up a paper and the only truth you read there about yourself is your name. Would you say the Nigerian movie industry is at its best? We are not there yet, but I think we are getting there. [Uche Jombo] Any role restriction? Yes. I won’t do any role that will compromise my dignity as a person. Because I have principles that have been guiding me since I was a young adult. Integrity comes first in everything I do. What is your personality? Uche Jombo Rodriguez is just the girl next door. I hail from Abiriba in Abia State, while my mother is from Mbaise. Although Jombo is also my real name, those close to me know me as Uche Obi and not the popular Uche Jombo that so many people are familiar with. Educational background? I studied Mathematics and Statistics as my first degree at the University of Calabar and Computer Programming as my Post Graduate Diploma at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. What next step is Uche Jombo taking now? I would just want to continue with what I know how to do best and that is acting and producing. Source: www.tribune.com.ng

If there are jobs, I wonder how many people will be in the Force. Lack of jobs drove many into that. |
Finally, they will say "To God be the glory". Unfortunately, they seem not to have something to replace this sentence. If there was nothing like this in English, I wonder what movie producers would use. |
Whatever Ogbeni's intentions were, I thing he got this totally wrong. Inasmuch as I respect people's views and religion, this merger wont work. It is not APC and nPDP merger, this is entirely different. Ogbeni should maintain the status quo, just as it was, it is now and it shall forever be. Christianity and Islam will continue to fight until end of time. It is a fact and not an assumption. |

DETECTIVES in Ondo State have detained a primary school teacher, Alade Adebayo, for allegedly flogging to death a four-year-old female pupil Elizabeth Wanogha. The deceased pupil was a student of a private primary school, Falaye Memorial Nursery and Primary School, located at Fanibi area in Akure metropolis. The teacher, according to report, accused the deceased of being stubborn in the class. He was said to have beaten the girl to a state of coma. Cries from other pupils in the class reportedly attracted other teachers who rushed to the scene where they found that the girl had fainted. She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital and was admitted but reportedly died later. Police authorities, however, said that the pupil died two weeks after the beating by the suspect. The father of the deceased, Mr Wanogha lodged a complaint at the Fanibi Police station, alleging that his daughter died as a result of the injuries sustained from the severe beating by her teacher. Following the complaint, the teacher was arrested for interrogation. Contacted, the Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, confirmed that the teacher had been arrested. Ogodo however said that people should not jump into conclusion that it was the beating which took place about two weeks earlier that led to the death of the pupil. He pointed out that the autopsy will determine the cause of the pupil’s death. Ogodo said that the suspect is being quizzed at the state Criminal Investigative Department, SCID. He explained further that the deceased was hospitalised immediately after the beating but died two weeks after. Ogodo said that investigation into the death of the pupil continues adding that the findings would be made public. The father of the deceased pupil insisted that the teacher should be prosecuted for murder. Mr wanogho who lived at Adebowale street Fanibi vowed that the matter would be pursued to a logical conclusion to serve as deterrent to wicked teachers who vent their anger on innocent pupils put in their care. He appealed to NGOs to take the matter up by ensuring that it was not swept under the carpet. The proprietor of the school declined comment on the incident. Source: www.nigeriadailynews.com |
Questions you should ask if he's actually voting. -Is he from Anambra state ? -Is he from that particular local govt ? -Is he from that ward ? -Is he from that unit ? If yes, it means he actually has an ulterior motive as an indigene/resident of that area to do this dirty job by justifying his act as a valid voter !
The picture and what El-Rufai said above doesn't portray that the crime was committed in Anambra. I love facts, I mean obvious facts!!! |
Many Christians respect Pastor Adeboye and Pastor Kumuyi. I am not surprised they are not on that list. Why keep these wealth while many Church-goers or Christians languish in abject power? I single out TB Joshua for his philanthropic tendencies. Wish other pastors could take a cue from him. To say Jesus which is the standard in the Church and Christendom didn't amass wealth while on earth but charged disciples to preach and spread the gospel and what we have now is Pastors buying jets and living larger than life. Judgement day will shock many. |

nerodenero: What inspired you to write Ti Oluwa Ni Ile?One of the few yoruba movies that is has stood the test of time. It will definitely outlive the Babawande. |
Kareem Adepoju, popularly known as Baba Wande, is one of the pioneers of the Nigerian movie industry. The actor, who would be celebrating his 50 years on stage on the 24th of November, was at the Tribune House during the week, where he engaged the duo of SEGUN ADEBAYO and JOAN OMIONAWELE in an interactive session, as he spoke on his 50 years of acting, his new movie, marital life and other issues. Excerpts. In a matter of days, you will be celebrating your 50 years on stage as an actor, how do you feel? I feel good. I am very happy. I want to use this celebration to show my appreciation to God for His goodness over my life. Looking back, I know it must have been God who has sustained me despite many problems. It is a great thing to be witnessing my 50th year as an actor, and that is why I have decided to celebrate it elaborately. It is a rare privilege for me, especially when I consider how I started and where I am today. What kind of support have you been getting towards the success of the event? People have been showing tremendous support, but we still want more. Some people have been calling to pray for me, some have given us pieces of advice and some gave us money. If you cast your mind back to those days when you started, so many events would have happened in your life; the good and the bad. Could you tell us which one really touched you most? The fact is that one has to pass through different phases and stages of life to become whatever one desires. To me, anytime I pass through any phase of life, I always thank God for giving me the grace to experience life from another perspective. I don’t feel sad anytime I encounter anything that makes me feel unhappy and I am not always too happy anytime I experience anything that makes me happy because I know that everything in life does not last forever. When I joined a theatre group many years back, my parents felt bad. They didn’t like my decision as of that time. So, what did you do to convince them? I was very calm with them, but I was equally resolute about my decision. After some time, my parents allowed me to follow my passion. Looking back, do you have any regrets? I don’t have any regret about my career. I enjoy what I am doing. People appreciate me anywhere I go because I always make them happy. I don’t even know how to explain the feeling anytime I see people calling my name and appreciating me for what I do. I don’t think about regret. I don’t talk about it. I just want to live my everyday life thanking God for what He has done for me. In your 50 years, what would you describe as your most challenging role in all the movies you have featured? That should be Ti Oluwa Ni Ile. I wrote the story myself and it was financed by Tunde Kelani. The most challenging part in the movie was when we were on the river and the boat suddenly capsized. That means you were almost drowned... No, we already had a rescue team on stand by in case any accident occurred. I was not scared of taking the role because I was even excited about the role before we shot the scene. Have you ever thought of quiting? Why would I think of that? People will not allow me to quit even if I wish to. If I say I want to stop acting, the reaction I will get from people will kill me. Are you not getting tired of jumping from one location to another? I am not tired at all. I am still happy doing what I am doing because I am not tired. What kind of women are you attracted to? A good woman. Who is the most special woman in your life? My wife is the most special woman. But you have more than one wife? Yes, I have two wives. They love me so much. They are happy with what I am doing as an actor. Whether I am on location or at home, they support and show me much love. I love them too. If you have the chance, would you take another wife? I am a Muslim, my religion permits me to have more than two wives. But you are getting old... You are correct, you can say I am old, but my wives cannot tell me I am old. After this 50th year celebration, what are your plans for your remaining years? Only God knows what He plans for me. If I tell you I know, I am lying. I am waiting for God’s direction. Anytime I wake up in the morning, my only prayer is that God should direct me on my next plan. You speak English, did you go to school? Yes, I went to school, but I stopped at the secondary modern school in 1961. One would expect that given the period when you schooled, modern school certificate holders then were the elites. Why did you decide to go into acting instead of taking a job in the civil service? Right from primary school, I have been following Baba Oyin Adejobi in taking part in many of his plays. It was only natural to continue in that path. So, you never attempted to work for government? I never did. Are any of your children taking after you? They help me during production whenever they have the time, but they have their own jobs- some are working with the government, some are still in school and one works at a bank. If any of my children is interested in acting, I won’t stop them. But I won’t advise them to take after me. Are you not planning to retire? Actors don’t retire. I don’t see myself retiring from acting anytime soon. Oyin Adejobi did not retire, Hubert Ogunde did not retire and none of the elders who started before us retired. Even though I don’t like producing movies everytime and I also don’t like appearing in all movies, I won’t retire. What do you do in your leisure time? I read the Holy Quran. Do you consider yourself a fulfilled man I am very satisfied. My children are doing well. My family is doing great and my career is blossoming. I can conveniently say that I am successful and satisfied with my life. When I go out and see people rushing out to see me, I feel happy and sometimes, I feel discouraged. Why do you feel discouraged? You know all these area boys who believe that actors are millionaires. If you give them N1,000, they will reject the money and demand for more. They will tell you ‘don’t you know we buy your films, why are you giving us peanuts?’ What inspired you to write Ti Oluwa Ni Ile? Somebody was telling a story about a town where some people sold a piece of land and died. When I heard it, I was moved and I said that I was going to write a story about it. I did the same thing with Soldier Idumota. I love to write stories on things that people can learn from. Why have you not been able to produce another movie like that after many years? I love this question. In my house right now, I have more than 20 scripts that I had written, even bigger than Ti Oluwa Ni Ile, but I don’t have the resources because I was not happy with how I was treated after shooting Ti Oluwa Ni Ile. How do you mean? I don’t want to talk much about that. What I am saying in essence is that I have not been able to raise the huge capital to produce another big movie like that. Even if a bank decides to lend me money to produce a movie, I won’t take it. Don’t ask me why. Piracy will not allow me to make my money. So. I don’t bother myself about borrowing money to shoot movies. What other things do you do asides acting? In my 50 years of acting, I have not done any other thing aside acting. I don’t know how God has been sustaining my family, but I have never ventured into another trade aside my profession. When you talk about payment in the Yoruba speaking movie industry, it is nothing to write home about. But I just thank God for helping me up till this stage. If I am not at location, I will be busy with other enagemement in entertainment, where I will also make my money. What do you want God to do for you again? I pray for good health. I want Him to continue providing for me like he has been doing for the past 50 years. www.tribune.com.ng

Soldiers, police stop Tinubu, Buhari, others at INEC office Soldiers, riot policemen and other security agencies on Thursday confronted the leaders of the All Progressives Congress during their march to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja to protest against the November 16 Anambra state governorship election. After a strategic meeting in the APC’s new secretariat in Wuse 2 in the Federal Capital Territory, which lasted about three hours, the party leaders took to the streets and embarked on a procession to INEC’s office in Maitama District. The protesters however met a stiff resistance from stern-looking security operatives comprising the Police, soldiers, SSS and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. An Armoured Personnel Carrier, marked NPF 6359 C, measuring about 40-feet long, was used to barricade the entrance to the commission’s office, while the driver of the truck and police officers were pelted with sachets of water by the APC youths. In their separate speeches, the APC national Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; National Leader of the party and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; former chairman of ANPP, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu; and ex-Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), called for the sacking of INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, with immediate effect for his handling of the Anambra State governorship poll and the recent Delta State Senatorial by-election.
