Wish we could know the parameters used for awarding these awards. An independent body could have made the awards more credible and appealing. Whichever way, congratulations to The Punch. |

I don't think the President is ready to terminate Stella's appointment. Her case seems too complex and has attracted too many sentiments. |
kingthreat: Why is Keshi still looking for a team when he has more than enough. I see confusion settling in. It's pertinent he sticks with what he has and builds a team out of them. They need experience from playing together on the field. This really mattersEagles were slightly vulnerable against the Azzuris.I think this was what informed his decision. It isn't a bad idea.Anything that will give us a good performance in Brazil is a yes-yes for me. |
Aspetta: Well, I don't know what happened 'cause I wasn't there but if there is one thing we can't escape, it is death. If someone did it ,the same will surely happen to him/her sooner or later.Death is surely inevitable as it can come in whatever forms.Just that we simply refuse to remember that it can come anytime as if we do,it will go a long ward towards making us a better person. |
You can't be a stranger in your own land.No place like home. |
I am really saddened by most comments I read daily on this forum. The ethnic abuses is greatly alarming and l think just as I feel bad about it,Seun himself is helpless.Every issue is attached with ethnicity bigotry. We need to move away from such mentality and collectively condemn who ever has done something wrong. If this trend is maintained on this forum, many will be forced to stop visiting.@the topic:It is really appalling that the Monarch died the way he did.Alas, those that killed him cant play a smart one on Mr.Death when it comes calling. |
Promises are made, some fulfilled and many denied.Predictions are also made and we all know for sure that it is based on probability as it can go either way.Enyeama said he will run nude should Eagles win the AFCON,we won and his boxer remained firmed to his waist. It is a choice and not an obligation to go nude. |
The first and only Nigerian coach that took the nation to the 2002 Worldcup was Chief Festus Onigbinde and after that no other coach has been able to achieve this feet.Fast forward to 2013,the country looks set to send another indigenous coach to join the best coaches over the world in the next worldcup.Going by the Foreign Technical Advisers we have had in the past, the likes of Clemence Westerhof and Jo Bonfrere stands out with each winnig a major title for the country.Aside these two wonderful coaches, the rest have been very poor.Listening to Channels television this evening,I was stunned when Minister of Sport said and I quote 'if Keshi needs a foreign assistance,we would be glad to present one'.The Minister added that the worldcup is a different ball game and all hands must be on deck in order to achieve a decent performance.Inasmuch as I hope the Eagles put up a decent performance at the Mundial, the issue of a foreign assistance should not even surface.Though the Minister said he is satisfied with Keshi but something tells me that it is just a matter of time before we hear people clamouring for a Foreign Technical Adviser owing to selfish reasons.I think there are other issue the Minister could channel his effort towards like Keshi's salary than this poo.Let us join hands together to say NO to a foreign coach.Keshi has done well and deserves a trip to Brazil. |
Another step towards clinching the world's best again. |
I am happy we have a Nigerian heading such a global organization and just hope that in no too distant future,he would come home and help the already dying aviation industry. One thing is certain and that is if invited to head the Aviation industry, he might end up failing woefully except corruption is eradicated.I dont see how people living abroad with vast experience in various sphere of life can thrive well in a country like ours where corruption is termed normal. |
I hate unconfirmed reports. Why make mockery of such profession where we have people who genuinely work tirelessly to get news at our door-steps?News like this makes me give-up and I am forced to ask 'Gosh!!!did you just released such a report?'This is purely trash! |
Knowledge9000: I couldn't agree with you anymore..you are right. It's a combination of bad roads and very stu$pid/mentally unstable drivers. What do you expect from some of these drivers when they live their lives on excessive alcohol, "paraga" and weed? |
E be like say NFF head don dey correct now. Make dem do pay Keshi im salary oooo. Manu and Keshi don do the nation proud this year. |
Lordlexyy: No doubt, mikel is a world class player but the absence of competition in his position made him a bit complicant. Over all, we had a good outing. Ideye, though hasn't given us much to cheer, but hope he will pick up. Onaze so far has proven to be trusted. I believe subsequent friendly matches will give us reasons to determine who is fit, any judgement pass now would have been hastly done.Complacent |
You live to die another day. If true, it is indeed a miracle. |
fatwallet: I'm Ignorant?you are an I.diot to say the least, just go jump off the London bridge with your s.tupid traditional wear or look for an empty cold alley and stab yourself with a rusty knife. The dude you just told you the obvious. We are Africans and Nigerians at that.We are smart despite all our challenges. We might have succumbed to the white's man bullshit in the past, but we have identity and we know what is best for us.Your views dont represent the general feeling of the majority.I suggest you align accordingly with ours. |
It is good that you are passionate about the people and the Country. As I have said before, I agree with some of your points about instituting changes where needed but there are some areas I totally disagree with you. fatwallet: this is 21st century and there's nothing to gain by holding on to such repressive ,Restrictive and backward cultures which encourages tribalism and bigotry. we should only read them in history booksI agree with the fact that ethnic bigotry is one of the challenges that has brought us to this level. In fact, it has reduced our national growth. fatwallet: our new culture is suit and tie and EnglishThis is one area I totally disagree with you. Why dump your own culture calling it names like "repressive ,Restrictive and backward cultures" while celebrating the white man's culture? Do you think the white man will take it easy if you call what they believe repressive, restrictive and backward? For crying out loud, do you think a white man will have this kind of mentality of yours, dumping his suit, tie and his language for our own babariga/agbada or ewu ati buba and embracing our local dialect? As I have said, we are on the same page based on some issues but some I totally disagree. |
Nigerian politics is filled with unnecessary sentiments drawn along ethnicity. In the case of Anambra, the people believes so much that APGA is an Igbo party and for that reason, APGA should return to the seat of power. They also believe that APC is a yoruba party and being in alliance with their greatest foe (Hausas) automatically ruled them out of contention. PDP came from the back door despite all the challenges facing the party came 2nd in the election though inconclusive for now. The points raised above are peculiar to all states of the Federation and not Anambra alone. What this portray is that for us to achieve that meaningful democracy that we have been clamouring for over the years where leaders are chosen based on what they can deliver, we must, first of all, rule out sentiments in our Politics. Like what happened in 2011 Presidential election where Nigerians troop out in large number to vote for Uncle Jona of PDP, he was voted for not because he is from South-south or a christian, but that Nigerians believed the Shoeless-President would deliver dividends of democracy to the common man. Has he been able to achieve that is a topic for another day. I think we should emulate the Presidential elections of 1993 and 2011 where people removed sentiments and other affiliations to vote for a candidate of their choice. Now is the time to start and imbibe this great attitude so that we can move forward. |
ujoinme: Yeah,If God wanted everyone in the world to look the same, dress the same, speak the same language etc. he would have created us all the same.Well said.We aint saying all is well with how the country is being run but the truth is there is no place like home. The OP that spewing poo,how much has he contributed to achieve these desires as stated?Rome was not built a day,American got to the level they are today going through what we are going through today.Nigeria can be great but all these thing takes time.My last take is we should celebrate our own,our culture, our language and everything about us while giving room for positive change. We should now work together to eradicate corruption and ethnic bigotry as these two monsters are responsible for where we are today. |
fatwallet: Thats why other countries dont take Nigeria seriously.you have a president wearing cowboy hat and gown from 18century ,the soccer players jerseys are extra large and obstructs flexibility, the police uniforms are extra large for the skinny officers,Most Nigerian police officers have very bad body odour.Chairman, slow down jooo!I agree with the fact that there is need to transform, remodel, repackage and reconstruct to make the country admirable and attract people but most of the point you raised is a no-no for me.I think you have issues and serious one at that.Inferiority complex has eaten deep beyond your bone and straight to your bone-marrow.If you are not proud of who and what you are, then you dont need to be alive.Permit me to call you a racist. |
trixandra: This is the real reason why Nigeria will neva progress. How can you be wishing your country bad luck and you claim to be patriotic. We are just hypocrites. You know why other countries progress more than us is because they have that tiny element called faith with hope and even in the midst of losing, they have hope that they will overcome. Let us stop being hypocrites. We should support our own and not others who do not even give a dime about you..Well said! |

donigspain: I'll give them a C (average). To be candid, the super eagles were just lucky to have conceded only two goals and miraculously scored two. We were literaly out-played in every section of the pitch, ermm, okay maybe not in goal keeping.I agree with some of your points but not all. That was how they also got lucky and defeated us by 2-1 in USA 94.We didnt play well in the 2nd half but we did the needful to get a point.Possession don't win football, goals does. |
The positives from this game is just too numerous and these are-Eagles are getting better despite playing badly in the 2nd half, they were able to secure point. It shows the team has character.Another thing is that Keshi has indeed worked on the team and has given us a formidable team.Gone are those days when Eagles score and afterwards take a back seat but now they go for the jugular.A draw is a bad result for them, but a good one for us both for our confidence and ranking. The Azzuris almost shattered Enyeama's record of not conceding for many games now but thank God,it wasn't to be tonight.I suggest we play more Grade A friendly matches with countries like Brazil,Spain,Portugal,German,Belgium,Argentine etc as this will better prepare us for the task ahead. |
khalids: I never see this kin match before..........them one kill them self for field.........Abi no bi friendly match be dis..........O boy na wa oooooo |
khalids: I never see this kin match before..........them one kill them self for field.........Abi no bi friendly match be dis..........O boy na wa ooooooFIFA ranking na im be the bone of contention.A bad result for them while we just shot upward our ranking. We played badly in 2nd half but we got the result.Again, that is a hallmark of a true champion |
Eagles just shattered my earlier prediction of 1-1.What a way to go boys.Go get that desired win!!! |
After leading the Eagles to secure the 2014 World Cup ticket Saturday, Keshi said his immediate challenge was how to assemble a strong squad for the .campaign in Brazil and surpass all previous achievement by Nigeria at the World Cup finals. “My immediate challenge is to ensure I assemble the strongest squad possible to represent Nigeria creditably at the World Cup. That is why I am calling on all hands to be on deck. The project is huge and we have to go to Brazil and do well there.” He said to achieve that, a lot of players who were either dropped or have not been invited during the qualifiers would be given a look in and be given the opportunity and be part of preparations before the tournament in Brazil. “Nigeria is blessed with top quality players all over the world. All of them will be given a chance to represent their country. That is my immediate challenge. “My target for the tournament proper is to go there and improve upon Nigeria’s past performances. We want to make a good impression at the finals. Every country that qualifies for the World Cup is a potential champion. Out there, it is an open affair. Anything can happen,” Keshi said. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/world-cup-challenge-keshi/#sthash.MU99o3WK.dpuf

The Chief Returning Officer of the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, Prof. James Epoke, has explained that the election was declared inconclusive because it did not meet certain requirements of the Electoral Act. Epoke said the Electoral Act required that for a winner to be declared in an election, the difference in the total voting population of the areas, where election was cancelled, should be less than the difference between the votes scored by the candidate with the highest votes and the votes of the candidate with the second highest votes. In the Anambra case, the returning officer said the total voting population of the areas in which election was cancelled was 113,113, which is higher than the 79,754 difference between the leading candidate’s votes and the second highest candidate’s votes, the commission had no choice but to declare the election inconclusive. “The rule guiding this election is that for a winner to emerge, he must have majority of votes cast and the required spread of 25 percent of votes in two thirds of the local government areas. “We observed that due to many reasons there were a lot of canceled votes that make it difficult for a winner to emerge,” Epoke said. He said the winner of the election would only be declared after election had been conducted in areas where the election was cancelled. Epoke explained that election was cancelled in the respective polling units where they were cancelled for a number of reasons ranging from snatching of ballot materials; delivering of coded ballot materials to wrong collation centres; the non-arrival of election materials at polling units. A Civil Society Organisation, Transition Monitoring Group, on Monday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to expose those who compromised in the Anambra governorship election. These errant officials, they said, should be made to face the wrath of the law. The organisation also asked INEC to improve on the areas of transparency and accountability of the electoral process ahead of the 2015 general election. Speaking with journalists in Abuja on the outcome of the Anambra State governorship election, the Chairman of TMG, Mr. Ibrahim Zikirullahi, expressed concern over the level of irregularities recorded during the process. He said, “TMG salutes INEC’s courage for accepting responsibility for failure of their officials, whom they claimed was working for outside interest; and whom they said has been handed over to the police for investigation. We challenge INEC, the security agencies and the Federal Government to expose the outside interest. “Some officials are alleged to have erred and compromised, but that is not enough. INEC must move beyond that; Anambrarians and indeed Nigerian people deserve to know the identity of the alleged collaborators and those they are working with. “We have observed the entire electoral process in Anambra State gubernatorial election and have identified critical issues based on reports from our citizen observers which they sent via coded text massages and the revelations were that there were serious shortcomings.” Source: www.punchng.com |
