The striker, who was declared missing on Friday, has earned a move to England after helping his country claim glory at the Under-17s World Cup earlier in November with six goals Nigerian wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho will sign a deal with Manchester City, according to the player's father. Iheanacho was named the best player at November's Under-17s World Cup after scoring six goals, including one in the final, as his country triumphed in the United Arab Emirates. He has since been linked in his homeland with moves to Porto and Chelsea but his father, James, claims that the Etihad Stadium will be his next destination. "As I am talking to you, I have chosen in my mind that Kelechi is going to Manchester United," he told Super Sport's 'Monday Night Football', before appearing to correct himself by saying: "I have told you that he is going to Manchester City." Iheanacho senior later confirmed to MTNFootball.com that the player's family made a joint decision on where he would go in a meeting on Monday night. "We prayed [on Monday] and, after due consultations with family members, we came up with Manchester City, believing he has a future there," he explained. "That is where he will be uplifted." The young striker had been declared missing by his father on Friday after he had left his home in Owerri without alerting his family but returned early on Monday morning before a decision on his future was made. James has been integral in his son's fledgling career, with rumours that he had valued the starlet at €1 million (£840,000), though he denied those claims, declaring: "No, those people are my enemies. I never said that." Source: Goal.com

One of the major challenges facing Lagos in drainage blockage. I was at Ogba-Ikeja over the weekend and it rained. The rain was a little bit heavy and within a short period of time, the whole road leading to Berger and Agege was filled with water. Many had to roll up their trousers, remove shoes and walking bare-footed in the dirty water. It is high time these challenges are put to rest asap. While thanking the Lagos Government towards fighting this challenge, I know there is still room for improvement. |

Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra on Monday said that neither All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) nor himself rigged the Nov. 16 governorship elections in the state. Obi spoke to State House correspondents after the launch of the third phase of the Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YouWiN) programme by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa. “Let me tell you, in the election in Anambra State, I can go to any where as a Christian and tell you there was no issue of rigging. “Those who wanted to rig were prevented from rigging and they are crying,’’ he said. The governor said APGA as a popular and acceptable party in the state would floor any opposition party in any election. He also faulted the calls for the cancellation of the entire elections by the opposition parties. “Go to the people of Anambra State, if you repeat that election 10 times, they will never win. “What are they even talking about cancellation, the regulation, the rules or the law says that you have to win at least 25 per cent in two-third of the local governments “In the Anambra case, it is 14 local governments that make up the two third and only APGA can boast of that because we won in 18 local governments. “The nearest, which is PDP, won in nine local governments, APC is seven, and I can tell you that even those results they are shouting about, their own are those that are doubtful. “Everything for APGA is real. I cannot be part of rigging, I don’t have money to pay for people. You know those who spend money and I am not one of them. The election conducted on Nov. 16 was declared inconclusive by INEC. The national electoral body had also fixed Nov. 30 for the conduct of supplementary election in the state. INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had openly admitted irregularities in the conduct of the polls and apologised on behalf of the commission. Some stakeholders had rejected the supplementary election proposed by INEC and called for the outright cancellation of the polls. A series of medical tests have revealed a thigh problem and the Real Madrid forward is unlikely to feature against Galatasaray in the Champions League Real Madrid have announced that Cristiano Ronaldo has suffered a lesion to the posterior compartment of his left thigh. The prolific attacker was forced to leave the pitch after 54 minutes of play in Madrid's 5-0 Liga win over Almeria at the weekend and underwent a series of tests on Monday morning to determine the extent of the knock. "Following a series of tests conducted by Real Madrid's medical services at the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital, Cristiano Ronaldo has been diagnosed with a lesion to the posterior compartment of his left thigh," an official Madrid statement reads. It remains unclear as of yet how long the 28-year-old will be unavailable because of his thigh injury, but it seems unlikely that he will feature in this week's Champions League match against Galatasaray at the Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid currently sit top of Group B with 10 points from four games and need a draw on Wednesday to qualify for the knockout stages. Source: Goal.com

The Super Eagles booked their ticket to the 2014 Fifa World Cup with a 4-1 aggregate win over the Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia in Calabar. Attention will now be switched to preparing and making a big impression on football’s grandest stage in Brazil. It was an arduous qualification campaign and after all these months of fielding several players, Nigeria head coach Stephen Keshi should have a mental composition of his squad by now. A raft of players were invited for the lengthy but worthwhile journey to the showpiece event and some have impressed while others are not likely to be on that flight to South America next summer. The sure bets to be in the squad include the three goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim. Godfrey Oboabona, Kenneth Omeruo, Efe Ambrose and Uwa Echiejile look set to be the fulcrum of the Eagles defence while Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike will certainly keep their place in the 23-man squad barring injuries. Players like Brown Ideye and Ahmed Musa are important cogs in the reigning African champions’ team but the inconsistency in their recent display leaves room for marked improvement or even replacements if/when available. Also, John Ogu, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Sunday Mba, Nosa Igiebor, Victor Obinna and Nnamdi Oduamadi have shown glimpses of brilliance, but a recall to the team for Joseph Yobo, Kalu Uche, Ikechukwu Uche, Reuben Gabriel, Osaze Odemwingie & Obafemi Martins should provide stiff competition. The national team is still very much a work in progress as we saw against the Ethiopians. The Eagles found it difficult to kill off the game in the second half with the attacking quartet of Emenike, Ideye, Musa and Moses struggling to get the better of the opposing defence with their final pass always lacking a cutting edge. Musa with all his pace hasn’t improved on his decision making; his crosses into the box still leave a lot be desired while Ideye who has proven to be a perfect foil for Emenike is far from clinical in front of goal - a trait which can jeopardize the chances of a side looking to become the first African side to reach the semi-final stage. Keshi still has a lot of ruminating and hard decisions to make regarding player selection. After the thrilling 2-2 draw with Italy at Craven Cottage on Monday, the Big Boss has just two exhibition games before he chooses the gladiators that will battle it out against the world's finest teams in Brazil next summer. Shola Ameobi showed why the coach has so much faith in him after his impressive performance in the first half-setting up Bright Dike for the equalizer and notching a goal to put Nigeria in the driving seat. Dike scored on his second start for Nigeria and certainly didn’t fluff his lines in his ongoing audition for a place in the national team. The American-born striker has proven to have both an eye for goal and prowess in building up play. Keshi's conundrum will be whether to stick with the misfiring Ideye or give the relatively inexperienced Dike a chance. Ikechukwu Uche has made a blistering start to the Liga season with Villarreal and his form shouldn’t go unnoticed by the Super Eagles gaffer. Cardiff City striker Odemwingie has always performed well in the green & white jersey and his experience will be important for a tournament of this magnitude. A player that didn’t do his chances any favours was Oduamadi. His all important goal against Kenya and the three he put past minnows Tahiti at the Confederations Cup are still fresh in the memory; but those are the highlights of his Eagles career so far and against Italy he looked out of sorts; misplacing passes much to the advantage of Nigeria's more illustrious opponents. Egwuekwe put in an average performance in the friendly as he couldn’t cope with the movement and strength of Mario Balotelli but should be on the flight to Brazil. Players like Solomon Kwambe & Benjamin Francis showed glimpses of their potential in the first half but their lack of experience at this level was exposed after the interval as they were always caught out of position by Andrea Pirlo’s cross-field passes and the runs of Christian Maggio and later, Alessio Cerci. Both could still be peripheral parts of Keshi's squad as cover for Echiejile and Ambrose. Joseph Yobo could also play a pivotal role coming off the bench just like during the AFCON. The Fenerbahce defender remains an experienced backup and should be a contingency plan to offset the loss of Oboabona & Omeruo should either of the pair pick up injuries. It will be a painstaking selection process for Keshi with some fringe players performing well against the Italians, but it’s a challenge the former Togo coach will relish. Source: Goal.com

ajas baba: i think you should include taye taiwo.because we dont even know which world he is nowTaiye Taiwo played all 90 minutes for Bursaspor in the 1-1 draw at home to Kasimpasa on Saturday. It was the left back’s 12th league game and he has scored once. Bursaspor are 10th on the log with 15 points from 12 games. |
For me, I think the contenders will between Mikel John Obi, Victor Moses and Vincent Enyeama Mikel John Obi - Won AFCON - Won EUROPA - Was a masterclass at the Confederation -Mikel Obi started his fifth league game for Chelsea over the weekend and played brilliantly as the Blues won their second away match by beating West Ham 3-0 on Saturday. It was Mikel’s seventh league appearance in which he has scored once Victor Moses - Won AFCON not forgetting is brace against Ethiopia in AFCON and another goal at the just concluded World-Cup qualifier - Won EUROPA - Absent at the Confederation Cup due to injury - Over the weekend, he came on as a substitute for Joe Allen in the 69th minute in Liverpool’s 3-3 away draw to Merseysiders, Everton on Saturday. Moses had the opportunity to win the derby late on but he could not keep his header down from a Luis Suarez cross. . The Nigerian winger has played as a substitute in the last three league games and has scored once in eight appearances. Vincent Enyeama - Won AFCON too and put up a decent performance and since then, the Keeper has not looked back. - Put up a decent performance at the Confederation Cup. -The clean sheets for Vincent Enyeamaand Lille continued on Sunday as they beat Toulouse 1-0 to make it 855 minutes without conceding a league goal. The last time Lille conceded in the league was September 15 at home to Nice but have since kept nine straight clean sheets. Before the match, the Nigerian goalkeeper was presented with the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award for October. My take: I think Mikel John Obi, judging by his performance so far deserves the award and it should be in the following order: 1. Mikel 2. Vincent Enyeama 3. Moses What is your own take? You can add more players to the list and state why they deserve the award. |
I feel seriously aggrieved reading careful through the submission. This is just our problem and it is so-so true. As usual, we would all come, read through, abuse each other on religious/ethnic terms and waka pass. So many articles have been released like this in the time past and we just read as usual. Wish I could enforce the needed change so that we can enjoy what the land has to offer which I believe it is more fertile than so many developed countries. I just wonder for how long we have to wait before the "needful is done". |
Long life used to be the norms in those days but now it is a great privilege to live this long. It is indeed a rare achievement. Happy birthday to her and wish I would live long too but not too long as to have my body totally shut down. Again, happy birthday. |
