It's lazyness that has stopped me from contributing to this thread o...(yep I'm locally-trained)...lol. I'm also guilty of super-aggressiveness, a lot of times I approach issues with a 'if this guy should say the wrong thing...by mistake he will hear it hot mentality. Thankfully more often than not I am able to avoid putting my foot in my mouth but without doubt, pple that work closely with me know I have one or two loose screws ![]() For me it developed as some form of defense so I dont get taken advantage of, not saying it's proper though. @Boss We need to catch up o, been a while. |
kaboninc: Would like to know what industry you are so I can at least understand you technical terms. Am thinking its the Petroleum industry but I want you to be specific though you may not mention the name of the company. ThanksPetro-kini? no o, I'm not chopping oyel money...I roll with his much poorer cousin, manufacturing. Of which, which technical terms are you referring to? me I've renounced technical terms o, these days my weapon of choice is a spreadsheet ![]() @thread Prepared my first forecast from scratch by myself, was pretty interesting...after I was done I was worried about two things: 1. that I will email it to the guy who requested it and he will rubbish it. OR 2. that it was too realistic and if the plant failed to beat it, na so so red go fill my cost tracking sheet. The guy seems ok with it(he's a finance guy though, what do they know ) as for the second fear, we'll deal with that one month by month. |
Hey ppl, been a while, just haven't been able to get myself to post here... Got offered the new role in Jan, acted(without letter) for four months and got a promotion letter some weeks back, some people were let go that same day, all in the name of restructuring o...smh, that day I'm sure next to no work was done in all the locations of the company, the whole exercise made me resolve to be more strategic, of which someone said something that day: "you cant be passionate about your job if you've seen a retrenchment"...funny statement, sounds sensible at first until your brain processes the fact that it's actually an excuse not to put in your best. I'm glad I'm no longer in maintenance now o, equipment seems to be breaking down left, right and center esp in my former section. While the proud fool inside me says "it wouldn't happen if I was still there", another part says "better thank your stars o, which english would you have spoken if it happened?"...I'm especially glad that with the way things are setup here it'll be near impossible for them to move me back to maintenance sha...I'm sooooo done with field wahala. These days fuel levels, forecasts and run hours are more my kinda thing ![]() Of course the new position has its own wahala:I live in constant fear of hearing my phone ring with NGC-*** being displayed on the caller ID, had some problems with gas over the past couple of months and everytime it happens my costs for the month are ruined Another fear is a power outage o, if the power plant goes down, the losses in production are unholy even if we restore power in less than 30mins, since production crash stopped it'll take hours to restart and ramp up On a final note, I can see first hand how not having a working power sector is stifling the Nigerian economy...Power costs are not beans o...not in the slightest. @My Boss |
AjanleKoko: Easter time, end-of-year time, performance bonus timeI don spend my own finish o. . .na peanuts, na profit sharing I dey wait for now, God is on the throne. @Kaboninc thanks man, will do. @thread Still on the grind, the learning curve isn't soooo steep anymore but there's still a lot to learn. |
~Sissy~:Most def, been busy pretending to be an adult, how's things? |
I tend to agree with Zayhal on this, your relationship with your siblings will play an important part in how you handle favoritism, you can tease the perceived favourite about his/her status, you can player hate on the person or(my personal favourite) you can turn the person into a mule a la "go and ask daddy/mummy for xxxxx you know they will answer you" ![]() |
@Tmama many happy returns. . .Hope you have a "wunnerful" day! |
Hey pple, Mennnn. . .life outside the maintenance department isn't exactly easy, now ALL, and I mean ALL the people I have to deal with on the other side are senior to me in terms of age and experience so sometimes I feel out of place but for most parts it's rewarding(esp when they aren't making snide remarks. . .lol). I haven't done anything remotely related to electrical engineering in my new role, it's mostly cost management and project stuff. I had my baptism of fire last month and I tell you it was hell, we had a failure on a gas valve and had to switch fuels and ended up burning a fuel that was more than 5 times more expensive than my fuel of choice, it goes without saying I was sober for a bit , of course it told on my costs for the month but since I was still under budget I only got one mail querying my decision. These days, the most important thing to me is the unit cost of power for the plants, I barely have the mental fortitude to keep up with the status of individual equipment in the plants, I seriously need advice on multi-tasking, I've taken to carrying an A5 notebook around and jotting stuff down but I've almost lost that book twice. . .smh where's evryone? |
Jarus: I congratulate one of our active participants in this thread, oyb, who was recently elevated to the post of manager. It's been some months now though.@ oyb Congrats o, so you wan code am from boys ehn? |
Hey pple, Works turning out pretty well, even though the past couple of days have been very rough, I can tell I've grown a lot as an engineer in these past two years. Tomorrow I'm supposed to have a chat with our plant manager, he'll prolly offer me my dream position on the plant , if it works out your's truly will be the power plant contracts coordinator for our generation plant. This will be me coming full circle, in simple english, my break from the power side of engineering could be over.Great thing is that I'll be exposed to the biz side of power which ties in nicely with my future plans. We're still short staffed in maintenance so I might have to combine two JDs but as long as I get the power plant position I dont mind. Idont expect them to put me on the coordinator level just yet (make I put half yansh on the seat first, I go fight that battle later ).It is good. |
Another convert signing up...babe you try! |
olabode89: Good day peeps......... i"ve been reading through this thread for more than a year now, I finally got a job as an associate with one of the big 4 bout 2 weeks ago. The experience have been awesome. I'm an engineering graduate who had a change of mind about the Career path to follow (decided to go for accounting(audit) then later switch to finance). Learning and getting used to all dem accounting stuffs and terms has been cool and frustrating sometimes, bout 1-3hrs is usually spent printing, scanning, photocopying, dropping/picking up FS for seniors and managersDude welcome o...abeg try stick around make you dey teach me the lingo, meself don dey plant enter management in the near future...lol |
@jarus My case is not very different from yours I have 3 weeks leave left for this year and I'm not sure how it will play out o... @chamber2, stryda, blood, extremebase, funky medina, hottie, obinoscopy and all the others Welcome to the zones, A childbirth(is that correct?) and a resignation(oyel money calling) has left my dept understaffed in terms of my JD, I'm now the only one available that does what I do, pple think I can cope cos I've been at it longer tha the other two but that'll be possible only if the 'system' works. Now I have to inspect plan and sometimes execute which is annoying enough already. Can I not just do my job well and be seen as competent? Must I carry another person's duties on my shoulder just so everything runs smooth? A plus is that of recent I've noticed my engineering is better than before, so I've actually improved, still feel like there are a million and one things I should know that I dont. Doesnt help that there's this engineering forum I visit when I need more info and it doesnt seem like I'll ever be able to match up with the guys there in terms of depth, but still I'm getting to that place where I'm not scared I might have nothing to contribute when there's a problem in my section. Idon dey become a local champion... ![]() Still scheming and planning for the future though, God is on the throne! |
@saga Which kain jazz you use keep men away from this thread?...lol @carefreewannabe Have you read 'the psychology of romantic love' by nathaniel brendan(I think), you seem to share the same views as the author(love being selfish and all). The book was a nice read I must confess. |
No it's not true...is that what you want to hear?...lol Ignore all the talk, keep applying for jobs and when you get the opportunity, show them how sound you are... If it's the school you went to today, tomorrow it'll be the grades you got, day after, the village you come from...there will never be an end to the things that companies purportedly use to screen workers. |
