Mrval20: I've been reading this post from the day it was created (yes, from 2009), and ALL my questions have been answered! Special thanks to Mr Ajanlekoko, Netotse, Oyb, Wallie, Lekside, Naijababe and everyone who has contributed constructively. God bless you all. I'm in my final year, going for power option..
@Netotse, is this privatisation of the power sector to our (the power guys) advantage? Is this the turn around you've been wishing for? I'll like to have your Email address too if you don't mind, or any other contact you feel like sharing. Thanks.

eventually things will get better, but in the short term I dont think it will change soooo much, there's still a lot to be done especially as concerns the financial part of the privatization. Send me a nairaland PM and I'll reply via email.

tayo_ast: Saw episodes 7 and 8 last night.
I'm beginning to like that Sophie girl; she acts well.
Tiwa Savage, Efa Iwara and Foye are horrible when it comes to acting. Still manageable, though.
I so much enjoyed the scene where Sophie's sis found her passport and the locations she's been to around the world, followed by the accusations that she's seeing MORE THE. ONE aristo. Sophie dashed her one sweet slap like that!
My mom had to ask if there was more to it or why would she slap her like that. I enjoyed the slap!
Sophie finally found out her sis has been doing Solomon, dragged her for a test.
I've spilled enough already... When you guys see it online.

Guy where you bin see am to watch?

pipe dream of the highest order...it appears you don't understand the power sector well enough. As an engineer It's important you are able to see the big picture so you can position yourself, TCN can be a funny place to work.

you have to admit he has been able to get a grip on inflation, plus his stunt with the CRR is helping to reign in banks and their crazy profits.

I agree, TOE shouldnt be abywhere near CBN, I'd go with either Sarah Alade or Aig...

He is alive: Good morning everybody. As we draw closer to our resumption day, I found out that it is very essential to have a secure forum PURELY FOR THE APPOINTED ENGINEERS by TCN where sincere information and technical know-how would be exchanged by the members: which some people had clamored for in the past.

Here it is, I have created the forum, but I need the house to deliberate on the modalities of accepting new members.

Pardon me, are you implying that people that arent imployed by TCN dont have any information or technical knowhow you guys might find useful?

Take my advice for it, you would be better served opening a new thread on NL and naming it 'transmission engineers corner' or something...the best engineers are those that freely share knowledge.

I hate the way people are reacting to this thread. What manner of man, goes to other people's house to beat them up?

Guy...I dont care about the guy, he was totally wrong to have slapped the babe, I agree the OPs sister needs to be careful as he would probably batter her if she points at him too.

that said...OP clearly has anger management issues, I'm surprised a lot of people seem to think she is blameless in this matter

tbh it's impressive she was honest enough to tell us what actually happened.

chaircover: But seriously that man should be watched

. . If he can beat his wifes junior sister like that in her mothers house, he can easily beat up his own wife in bis own house.

and the silly wife who is joining hand to help her husband beat another woman. . her own case is pashon ti won fi na iyale.

we are too violent as a society. everything is bash bash bash

What happened to sitting down and sorting things out. What makes you a strong person is not the strength of your fists, but the ability to keep it together when you are pushed.

God forbid what will he say if during the beating the poster fell and hit her head and died. Go to kirikiri prison and ask people what got them there. You will shed tears when you hear from the horses mouths the minor things that escalated to manslaughter.

Walking away is not cowardice, It shows a lot of maturity and inner strength. If a mopol officer had pointed at him, would he have removed belt and beat him up. We should learn to restrain ourselves.

God forbid what will she say if when she hit him with the kettle he slumped and died.

Both parties were wrong in this case, it's all too simple to dress the woman up as a victim.

@thread
the BIL should not have laid his hand on OP, he has no right whatsoever.

that said, OP comes across as rude to me:

she told the sis she has started something and should be prepared to finish it, isn't that a petty statement?(we all make such statements, I know...doesn't make it right)

She said she didn't know when she started moving towards BIL, if that isn't a provocation, what is? everyone knows those rude girls that stand in your face and shout at you, what are they asking for? love and affection? (once again BIL was wrong to have slapped her).

OP wants us to tell her BIL was wrong and castigate him all the while ignoring the fact that she contributed her fair share to the whole scenario...rubbish and nonsense.

@OP
be the bigger person, apologize for the part you played in the mess(I did not say for being beaten) then stay away from them.

hey pple,

This thread has been largely abandoned, I've contributed to that I cant lie...lol.

Wrote a certification exam with SON(standards org of nigeria) on friday and that exam was tough o...no amount of cramming could have saved you if you didn't understand the principles, their staff were professional, friendly and competent (even though they veered off-point a couple of times during the training). I wont lie, I thought it would be a biz as usual exam so I had crammed the relevant standards (you need to see the mnemonics I used mennnn), hopefully I should pass sha *fingers crossed*.

On the work side, life outside of maintenance has not been easy o...I no longer work crazy hours but my stress levels have not improved and then the politics involved in this role dey tire me, I'm by far the most junior person out of the people I have to deal with most of the time so persuasion is the most powerful tool available to me(I'm kinda used to browbeating people...lol), I am trying to improve on my communication skills though we'll see how that goes...lol.

PGD, you already have a HND why go back to start in year two because you want a Bsc? A PGD is shorter plus you might even be able to work part time sef...my two cents

Hey PPle,

My sleep for the rrst of the night has been killed,

Was woken up a few mins ago cause there was an outage at the power olant means the two product plants would have crash stopped, second time this month and 4th or 5th time this year, wiaiting for them to come and pick me to work to sort some stuff and mennnn I'm feeling the weight now...bigtime. Somehow I cant remember being this tense/stressed when I was in maintenance, I need to go on leave soon o...need to take time to adjust properly.

I can feel the hawks begining to circle...lol.

It's lazyness that has stopped me from contributing to this thread o...(yep I'm locally-trained)...lol.

I'm also guilty of super-aggressiveness, a lot of times I approach issues with a 'if this guy should say the wrong thing...by mistake he will hear it hot mentality. Thankfully more often than not I am able to avoid putting my foot in my mouth but without doubt, pple that work closely with me know I have one or two loose screws tongue

For me it developed as some form of defense so I dont get taken advantage of, not saying it's proper though.

@Boss
We need to catch up o, been a while.

Petro-kini? no o, I'm not chopping oyel money...I roll with his much poorer cousin, manufacturing. Of which, which technical terms are you referring to? me I've renounced technical terms o, these days my weapon of choice is a spreadsheet grin

@thread
Prepared my first forecast from scratch by myself, was pretty interesting...after I was done I was worried about two things:

1. that I will email it to the guy who requested it and he will rubbish it.

OR

2. that it was too realistic and if the plant failed to beat it, na so so red go fill my cost tracking sheet.

The guy seems ok with it(he's a finance guy though, what do they know tongue) as for the second fear, we'll deal with that one month by month.
Career / Re: Welcome To My Office by netotse(m): 8:46pm On May 30, 2013
Hey ppl,

been a while, just haven't been able to get myself to post here...

Got offered the new role in Jan, acted(without letter) for four months and got a promotion letter some weeks back, some people were let go that same day, all in the name of restructuring o...smh, that day I'm sure next to no work was done in all the locations of the company, the whole exercise made me resolve to be more strategic, of which someone said something that day: "you cant be passionate about your job if you've seen a retrenchment"...funny statement, sounds sensible at first until your brain processes the fact that it's actually an excuse not to put in your best.

I'm glad I'm no longer in maintenance now o, equipment seems to be breaking down left, right and center esp in my former section. While the proud fool inside me says "it wouldn't happen if I was still there", another part says "better thank your stars o, which english would you have spoken if it happened?"...I'm especially glad that with the way things are setup here it'll be near impossible for them to move me back to maintenance sha...I'm sooooo done with field wahala. These days fuel levels, forecasts and run hours are more my kinda thing grin

Of course the new position has its own wahala:I live in constant fear of hearing my phone ring with NGC-*** being displayed on the caller ID, had some problems with gas over the past couple of months and everytime it happens my costs for the month are ruined cry. I was set to break a record this month by delivering the lowest unit cost of Power since the begining of operation but a vandalised gas pipeline somewhere down south put paid that cry, God dey sha there is still the remainder of the year for me to break records.

Another fear is a power outage o, if the power plant goes down, the losses in production are unholy even if we restore power in less than 30mins, since production crash stopped it'll take hours to restart and ramp up

On a final note, I can see first hand how not having a working power sector is stifling the Nigerian economy...Power costs are not beans o...not in the slightest.

@My Boss
