The thing is that foreign media usually find a way to market themselves as having the best life while they market Africa as a jungle. Somehow, we have all bought into that stereotype. |

yorubakid: Nonsense!! I have you shown an example of how UNN are breaking boundaries in medical field and you still went ahead to type rubbish..
Until you show me an example of where UI medical school did made history in medical innovation then you can't compare it to UNN . The problem is your ignorance - don’t understand the difference between medical school and residency. The boundaries you’re talking about have nothing to do with med school, rather they deal with residency, and only impacts people in that field. Uniben has the first stem cell transplant center in Nigeria; does that make it the best? I can start Googling stuff that UI has done, but that’s ignorant, I won’t stoop to your level. What does first open heart surgery do for a med student intending to specialize in dermatology? Again tell me about UNN publication and citation volume and compare that to UI’s. |
Education › Re: UNN Medical Sciences Admit Too Much, Then Trim Down To Quota With Mass Failures by neurosci: 9:08pm On Dec 15, 2021 |
yorubakid: The first open heart surgery was performed in university of Nigeria teaching hospital. Go and read your history boy.. UNN medical school have always been the best. Things like open heart surgeries and other ground-breaking surgeries have nothing to do with med school. If anything, they connect to residency, not med school. Medical students don’t need to be exposed to all those ground-breaking procedures until they get to residency, depending on whatever specialty they choose. Now, tell me, what is the volume of research publication that comes out of UNN? Compare that volume to UI and we can continue this conversation. |
Education › Re: UNN Medical Sciences Admit Too Much, Then Trim Down To Quota With Mass Failures by neurosci: 5:47pm On Dec 15, 2021 |
yorubakid: UNN is far ahead of the three schools..they shouldn't be in same sentence Lol, you don’t know what you’re saying. When you talk about medicine, no school in West Africa is anywhere near UI. UI medical school is one of the best on the continent and among top 400 in the world. Don’t even start that conversation. |

oocyte: Bros that's not true we cover all the syllables upper limb and lower limb ,thorax and abdomen, head and neck with histology and embryology which other topics in anatomy again. Who told you that’s everything they do lol? Have you even seen their syllabi? Don’t forget different schools might have different syllabi? For example, do you do research too, or even internships? And have you accepted your error that you don’t cover something worth of 12 years but rather 9 years at best, when you factor in the first year? |
Education › Re: UNN Medical Sciences Admit Too Much, Then Trim Down To Quota With Mass Failures by neurosci: 3:00am On Dec 15, 2021 |
Bvmsson: Some of these guys that failed really worked their asses out. I Know of a guy last year that is a really good student at anatomy, physiology and medical biochemistry but failed 2nd MBBS last year but he pass this time around.
In medical school you do Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry which some people do separately for 4 years each, so if you calculate it you will spend 12 years studying the 3 courses.
. You made it sound like medical students complete the entire syllabus of a degree in Physio, Biochem, and Anatomy. That is not true. You only do a part of each course, not everything students who major in those courses separately do. Also, it does not add up to 12 years, lol. Have you forgotten that you all do the same thing in the first year? This your exaggeration lol. Medical students spend 18 months from the second year to take the basic medical sciences you mentioned, which, if separated into three degrees, would add up to 9 years, not 12, since medical students already do the same thing as the others in their first year. |

truthsayer009: IMO, even the Ph.D can be very worthless in the corporate America, In recent years IT professionals thrive on certifications and professional courses, if she is in IT & Telecom's industry, it would mean there are many professional certifications she has to do. That 5 years she would spend in school is better off gaining more work experience in Nigeria and writing professional certifications, then plan for One Year Canada PG diploma. Right. A PhD is not a route to make money. PhDs are for people who are passionate about research or teaching. Many PhD holders become college professors are they are grossly underpaid for their worth. Most of their earnings come from their research grants rather than salaries. A computer science professor at Harvard, for example, earns less than a computer science entry level employee at Google who graduated from the same Harvard. I tell people, do a PhD only if you’re passionate about it. That isn’t something you go into because you’re trying to break into the corporate space. |

Gerrard59: Assuming the story is true (which is not true itself, just an assumption), the bold is entirely untrue. Someone in his/her 30s can start from the top by getting an MBA from a top-20 school in the US or getting an L-1 visa from a US-based company in Nigeria and moving to a similar position in the US or getting a JD from a top law school. Or a PhD from a good school and enter corporate America. Going back to school is not starting from the top. A student is not at the top. You get to the top after school, not while you are a student. Top-20 MBA, do you know how much she'd need in student loans which she may not even qualify for? How many years before he/she finishes a Ph.D and then enter corporate America? How many Ph.D's are even in corporate America? How is it starting from the top when you spend your first five years studying rigorously and barely earning minimum wage from research assistantship? |

Brexxit: I guess she's into minimum wage jobs $7.25 per hr over there in the USA.
Advise her to go for skilled or professional jobs, with this she can live comfortably there. If she doesn't have a degree let her go to university or get a skill.
She made the best decision of her life moving to the USA. She went on a tourist visa. Do you realize she is actually illegal and therefore cannot switch to a professional job? She is not authorized to do any type of work, including the minimum wage job she is doing illegally. |
Travel › Re: Not All Countries Are Suitable For Migration As A Nigerian by neurosci: 3:09am On Dec 04, 2021 |
Saynoomore: A majority, just like you, are getting the point entirely wrong! The desperation to leave the country, does not only stem from the desire for greener pastures or wealth, but for social security, feeling of safety, access to basic amenities, social welfare, quality healthcare etc. These basic amenities are increasingly getting out of the reach of not just ordinary Nigerians, but also out of the reach of even wealthy Nigerians as evidenced by the rich members of the society travelling out of the country for medical reasons! For others, the political instability and frequent terrorism from UGM, kidnappings, banditry, herdsmen, etc, raise fears for the future of the country and they want to get their children out of this hell-hole as fast as they possibly can.
So, it's not just for the money and good jobs! It's for the feeling of security, safety, and the assurance that they are in a society that works - one where they can find justice should they decide to seek justice for any reason! Overall, peace and security remains on priority list of most japa enthusiasts, before wealth and monetary gains. Only war torn countries are facing the kinds of challenges many Nigerians are currently battling with. Such countries should be avoided at all costs. Nigerians are not travelling for those things you listed; they are travelling for the money. Simple as that!! And who even told you that you'd get those things you listed in the countries mentioned by the OP? |
Travel › Re: Not All Countries Are Suitable For Migration As A Nigerian by neurosci: 3:03am On Dec 04, 2021 |
adeakin: Unfortunately people will still go to these countries believing their case will be different. Some people are currently heading to libya via agadez right now. Despite all the instability and slavery there. Immigration today is not what it used to be. White women that usually marry Nigerians so they can get papers are reducing by the numbers too. Think am well before you japa People are ready to go anywhere so far it's "abroad" |

Mariangeles: The question you really want to ask is Can I live abroad and have the Nigerian type of marriage?
Dude! You can't have your cake and eat it! You said it all. That's what they want. Those telling him to not go to Nigeria to find a Nigerian wife are those who have never lived abroad. There is a reason why Nigerians who come here go back home to find a wife. In the end, you can't eat your cake and have it like you said. It's not all paradise abroad; there's a price to pay for everything. |
