For those in Atlanta, use the below information to process your baby US Passport.

" For the US Passport: If you want to leave the US on time. Call the Passport Agency on 1 (877) 487-2778 to book an appointment for your US passport and head to The Atlanta Passport agency, 230 Peachtree St NW, Suite 1000, Atlanta GA 30303 on the scheduled date. Have your application form, baby's BC, passport photo, flight ticket, etc handy. You will be advised on what is needed on phone or you can check http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english.html for details. Your passport can be ready same day if you tell them it's urgent. Max 3 days. Costs about $165 expedited. "

I take a bow.

Please lets all try and take time to read through both part 1 &2 of this very detailed informative thread. Most questions being asked have been answered over and over and over and over.
I am very certain that despite all these info i just uploaded, someone will still come asking the same questions without taking time to read the previous pages. undecided angry
God bless you abundantly for these very detailed information.

Once you have naija passport, you don't need a visa.

When returning to naija, just present both the naija passport and the American passport.

Visa is $350. That's what a couple of pple I know in El Paso paid for it. They used one Edwin guy in Atlanta. But I hear if you go to naija embassy yourself to do it,its less dan $200
Oh ok,been wondering about that.thanks.

thanks newmum15 have search again and found information on Northside hospital.

what i plan was

1. To pay for the hospital bill and get receipt sent to my e-mail if possible so i can present at POE (but did nt get info on anyone who have done this or how they go about it)

2. To get a doctor appointment letter (that i have contacted an ob/gyn of atlanta, they ask me to fax my record, fax was difficult for me, i asked for an e-mail and have send them mail attaching my record, no response from them yet, send a reminder twice, no reply to my mail.

3. As for pediatrician, do i need to book them too.

4. Is a question, the gynecology fee, is it including the blood works, or u pay seperately for blood work r

5. Those that have giving birth, how do they dispose the placenta. just wondering.

I need to finish all these to get prepared for the POE as i have booked my flight already.

this are my worries though for now. pls need advice

thanks all.
I don't think anyone paid Northside before leaving Naija.Just show them at your POE the personal letter that has your name written on it of their price estimate. Then try to get a personalized letter from your Obgyn stating they'll be accepting you and how much they'll be charging.
I really can't tell what your Obgyn package is,some are inclusive of all test and blood works while some aren't.so you'll have to discuss with your Obgyn. There are several Obgyn affiliated to Northside, you can speak with them and decide which works for you.
You can source for your own pediatrician if you want but from what I've gathered Northside would give you one if you don't have any.
As for the placenta disposal, that one pass me o,lol...still on the waiting line.@shawbabe would be in a better position to help with that.
You shouldn't have much problem at the POE.Just have your cash(and cards if you have any)your correspondence from your hospital and Obgyn and you should be fine.

Hello house! Long time. Got back to naija last weekend with my American princess!

So I promised to post the process of getting naija passport.

Naija passport is gotten from only three states in the US - Washington DC, Atlanta and New York.

Please note that baby has to be physically present at their office for photo capture unlike the naija visa that can be posted by mail.

I got my baby's passport in DC. First, you have to go to their website (https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/passport/epassport) to fill an application form and pay $77. Make sure u select the right country and state where u want it processed. You can only pay online with a card that has the same surname with your baby. I haven't done change of name on my accounts so couldn't pay online. It's written on the website payment can only be made online but it's not true. Just fill the application form and print it out. Then buy two separate money orders of $77 and $30 each. Then go to their office with baby's birth cert(original and fotocopy), two passport fotos of baby, copy of both parents datapage, online application form printout and money order of $77 and $30. You do not need 2 book an appointment b4 going.

Wen u get to the office,if you went with money order(didnt pay online),they will collect additional $35 from you and say it is to associate the money order to your application form(in my opinion,it was jst a way 2 get extra money *hisss*).

Then you submit all the documents and wait for baby's turn to capture. They say it takes 2weeks for it to be ready but you can get it same day(expedited). It cost $90 for expedited and it will be paid to their supervisor. They will try to form that it's legal but na lie. No receipt for it and you pay codedly. Naija pple are the same anywhere in the world! Smh. Wait for 30mins or an hour max for the passport to be ready.

There's a business centre at their office where fotocopy is done for $10 per page and they can also fill the application form for you there but don't know how much. It's best you fill the form and print from home and go with all you documents to save cost and time.

Please note that this procedure is for DC office as that's where I did my baby's own.

Congrats to all new mums and safe delivery to expectant mums.

This marks the end of this journey for first baby. Will still be here reading(and laughing at funny posts and fights) quietly. I'm also available to ans any questions.
This is quiet informative. But are you saying you paid $232 for Naija passport alone? How much did you now pay for visa?

Hello house,Pls I have a question for mothers that have traveled back home with those babies,What type of car seat would you advice one to buy?The infant car seat or the convertible? At what point is the car seat collected,do you check it in or its collected at the entrance of the plane.Plsss help!!Thank you.

Shawbabe:
1) Things given for free are: baby food and nipples, maternity pads and disposable panties, diapers (pampers), baby newborn white tees, and a Northside gym bag. Infact u need only go with the clothes u and baby will wear back home and toiletries. Every other thing is provided.

2) What do u mean by work with birth plan? U already discussed that with ur Dr so they should relate it to the hospital. Also note that once u are admitted u should give them ur pediatrician details if not they'll assign u an expensive one at the hospital.

3) BC cost $25 for first copy and $5 per any extra copy u want. I got 3 copies so paid $35. And u pay this at the Vital records office when u go to pock it up. But the hospital will also give u a Confirmation of Birth in writing. Better to request it on the 1st floor b4 u get discharged, so it's ready for u. If not u'll make a trip back just for that.

Any other info? Hearing test is FREE so no decline am. I declined at first until I asked of it's free and they said yes. So ask b4 anything is administered to ur baby even vaccines. If not u go receive bill later oh.
Thank you so much.God bless you smiley

@Newmum15,

@Phema made a valid point, @ ewa2014 's case is different from mine in that I didn't do a fresh application, mine was a drop box renewal... I had to cos my poe is chicago & the fact that they aint smiling at that POE is already a well established fact. cheesy

I sent my letter not as change of intent but as notification/update of intent to both lag and abuja and the two gave me two different patterns of the "generic response"...

Na abuja own sure pass...
I sent my letter as change of intent tho I told them I was pregnant during my interview but I didn't say I was going to give birth in the U.S.The lady only told me to call if I changed my mind about that but it's ok,just like you guys said she shouldn't give all her information to be on the safe side.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by Newmum15: 9:14pm On May 20, 2015
Phema:
You really think they 'update records'?

All she needs now is a letter to show that she informed the embassy.

She knew she was going to US to have a baby but didn't disclose. That can make her visa to get canceled. Why risk it?
No one knows if they don't "update records".She said the question of being pregnant or not didn't come up at her interview.I just feel she's going to be sending a letter that really doesn't contain sufficient information considering they go through the letter at POE.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by Newmum15: 5:25pm On May 20, 2015

Still send the letter, but withold your passport details.

That is what I would do if I were in your shoes. Not everyone is lucky with the 'generic' reply.
If she doesn't include her passport details, how are they supposed to update her record?

Hey dear,Hmmm I've been doing research all day and I've gotten a store where they sell all these things at very affordable rates in Abuja.Infact my husband already got them today. You can check some online store in Nigeria, like Kaymu. The stuff you order are pay on delivery,so if you order and you don't like, you can always return them.Hope you find this helpful. As for the store in Abuja, their office is located in Garki and their website is dispikin.com.

Hope the free shipping includes international shipping.

Like someone else suggested, I say you use sea cargo. The rates are much cheaper cos they don't charge by weight, instead they use the dimension of your items/boxes. It takes longer, but it allows you send a lot more stuff.

I normally use hitechcourier based in Tampa florida. They pick up from me in Orlando and when i'm in naija, I order and ship directly to them. It takes about 4-5wks to get my stuff. Their container usually leaves around the 30th of every month, so I time it accordingly.

You can PM me for details if you're interested.
I'm definitely interested.Ill pm you.Thanks a lot.

@Newmum15,
Howdy? Permit me to chip in something, I saw where you stated that the crib you are eyeing is 125lb(56kg+) which is heavier than a full bag of rice/cement.

Minus the huge shipping cost, won't that be a nightmare to move around the house and even pack up for storage later? Maybe you can reconsider& look for one that will both be pleasing to the sight and still practical.

@Dee&G
i really hadn't thought about that you know,I just picked it cos it has baby wardrobe attached to it.Thanks for pointing it out.

Is Amazon shipping rate cheaper? I think it's safer to use a shipping company o. Since your goods are heavy, why don't you have patience and opt for shipping by sea. The rate should be more affordable.
Amazon ships for free if you're buying anything above $35(so they said, they might have hidden charges tho).I won't mind shipping by sea if I get too.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by Newmum15: 1:06am On May 12, 2015
Thanks guys for all the suggestions.I called a particular shipping agent and he said its $4:50 per pound. The crib I'm considering is 125 pounds alone(without the baby walker and others in it).I think that's too expensive for me.Called their customer service line at Amazon and the guy told me that once the order gets accepted then I would definitely get it.They also have an option of waiting till all your orders are ready before they ship or they ship individually as its ready.Im just skeptical cos I haven't heard anyone send that much stuff to Abuja from Amazon.

@Newmum 15, I think you should try using shipping or cargo companies. There alot of them now who ship things to Nigeria and If you intend to ship it before you get back mayb you can opt for sea freight it's cheaper but will take a longer time. But by the time your baby is here and you are back in Naija your crib should have arrived and been safely delivered to your house stress free.
Thank you so much...I'd start looking around for one.
