Lagos state governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the state Ministry of Justice and relevant authorities to commence the trial of the owner and driver of the container-laden truck that fell on a commercial bus on Ojuelegba Bridge, Surulere area of the state, last Sunday, January 29, IGBERETV reports.

The truck fell on the commercial bus with registration number, KTU 921 YD, killing nine occupants in the process with one survivor.

Among those that died are Miss Blessing Isioma, Mr. Abdurahman Okoya Sunday, Mr. Felix John Ifeanyi, 40, Mrs. Olatokunbo Basirat King, 49, among others.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, after receiving an interim report of the incident, on Monday January 30, directed the police to speed up their investigation.

Addressing newsmen, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the governor gave the following directives.

“That The driver of the truck and the owner, who are in police custody, must be prosecuted; Ministry of Transportation and Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) should meet urgently to find a lasting solution to the menace of falling trucks; and all the laws governing the operations of trucks and related vehicles must be enforced with more vigour and diligence.

The incident of January 29, 2023, is one too many and it shows the irresponsibility of owners and drivers of such articulated vehicles who under the law should care for other road users.

The Lagos State Government has zero tolerance for large containers that fall off trucks and injure or kill citizens, who are going about their lawful businesses.

The driver, Sodiq Okanlawon, and the owner, Wasiu Lekan, of a container which killed three people on the July 26, 2020, on Oshodi/Apapa Expressway, Ilasamaja, were prosecuted and convicted on the February 28, 2022, and sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Okikiolu Ighile.

The State Government will, in a similar manner, ensure that the driver and the owner of the truck involved in the January 29 incident are put on trial for the needless death of our dear citizens.

This, we hope, will send a strong message to all those who have no regard for other people’s lives that Lagos will not condone their recklessness.

They must be stopped, with the strong backing of our laws, because their actions offend our avowed commitment to safety and decency''

The State's Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederick Oladeinde, also stated that the state governor has directed the Ministry of Transportation to thoroughly investigate the remote and immediate cause of the accident so as to prevent a recurrence.

“We are working with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to install Vehicle/Truck barriers on the inward and outward sections of the Bridge.

We share the grief of those who lost their loved ones in the accident and pray that the Almighty will strengthen them at this difficult time.

The Government will continue to implement its Transport Master Plan, which has safety strategies that will ensure that our roads are safe,” Commissoner for Transportation, Dr. Federic Oladeinde stated.

The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, SKB Ogbuagu, has died, IGBERETV reports.

Ogbuagu collapsed on Thursday evening, January 19, 2023, during a town hall meeting of the governorship candidate of the party held at the Ezeagu Local Government Area headquarters.

It was gathered that the meeting had ended and everyone was moving to reception venue, when he fell sick.

Ogbuagu, who was said to be an asthmatic, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he passed away.

An Hausa page posted an invite to a wedding that was called off due to discovery that the bride and groom are both of AS genotype, IGBERETV has learnt.

The ceremony was set to hold on February 10, 2023.

Nigerian crossdresser, Jamesbrown, says the era of his senior colleague, Bobrisky, is over and that he is now in Charge, IGBERETV reports.

A People's Democratic Party (PDP) campaign in Edo Central Senatorial District turned violent as one person was shot dead, IGBERETV reports.

PDP's campaign director, Anselm Ojezua confirmed the incident which occurred at Ward 7 in Ewu community, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

Ojezua revealed that many others were injured. He further said that the incident had been reported to the police for thorough investigation.

It was reported that the Speaker of Edo House of Assembly, Marcus Onobun, who is from the area, and other PDP leaders were quickly evacuated. Other members of the party scampered to safety.

Ojezua said;

“Expectedly, the outcome of the kick off of the campaign, which covered wards 1 to 5 of the LGA was indeed successful, as PDP members and supporters of the party came out en masse to show solidarity to all the candidates of PDP.

“With the same high spirit and in view of the success recorded at the kick off, the PDP leaders decided to take the campaign to Wards 7 and 8 in Ewu, but the campaign had a sad occurrence, because while the rally was ongoing in Ward 7, the sound of gunshots was heard some distance away from where the rally was taking place.

“Disturbed by this sound of gunshots, the leaders of the PDP leading the rally, which was supposed to be the final campaign rally in Esan Central Local Government Area decided to lead their members and supporters to a safe location, in order to avoid injury, and possible damage and loss of lives of leaders and members of the governing party.

“The PDP, as a peace-loving political party, which understands the place of the rule of law in a constitutional democracy, has reported the sad and unfortunate occurrence to the police, for a thorough investigation into the matter.

“We later heard of loss of life in the incident, which has led us, as a party, to put on hold all political campaign rallies, until the police come up with their investigation and findings.”

Ojezua also noted that the campaign council regretted the loss of life, resulting from the incident and prayed for the repose of the soul of the victim.

The village head of Lambata in Gurara local government area of Niger State Mohammed Abdulsafur has been killed during a violent clash among youths on Saturday, January 14, IGBERETV reports.

It was reported that Abdulsafur died from injuries inflicted on him by youths who invaded his residence on Saturday evening.

The late village head, who retired as the State Control Officer in the Leprosy and Tuberculosis programme, is survived by a wife and 13 children.

Following his death of the village head, Niger State Government imposed a curfew in Lambata from Sunday till further notice.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, the State Government, said the curfew would be from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Matane said the curfew will help security agencies to stabilise the situation in the area, save lives and ensure restoration of law and order.

“Government condemn in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that has occurred in Lambata town”, Matane said.

A pastor of Peculiar Generation Assembly Church, Lagos, Chris Mcdouglas has been accused of defiling a 17-year-old daughter of his member, IGBERETV reports.

On Monday, January 9, a businesswoman told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Lagos State, that her 17-year-old daughter was defiled by her pastor, Chris Mcdouglas. The woman alleged that the clergyman had sex with her daughter at the back of his church and in different hotels on several occasions.

The victim’s mother, who was led in evidence in chief by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr Babajide Martins, told the court that the defendant raped her daughter from 2017 to 2020 in the guise of taking her out for gospel ministration.

Mcdouglas is standing trial on nine counts bordering on defilement, rape and sexual assault by penetration, preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.

While testifying before Justice Ramon Oshodi in court, the distraught mum said when she found out about the abuse, she confronted the clergyman. She claimed he bursted into tears and blamed it on the devil.

“Pastor Mcdouglas will come to my house and ask my daughter to follow him for ministration so as to use her talent as a chorister to bless others.

"Unknown to me, according to my daughter, when he takes her out for ministration, he will branch in a hotel and have sex with her.

"When I confronted him with some leaders in the church, he said he was deceived by the devil and told me to forgive him.”

The woman also stated that she recorded her conversation as well as the defendant’s alleged confession on her phone.

“The pastor, whom I trusted so much with my family and saw as my spiritual father, entered my house anytime I was not around to have sex with my daughter. My daughter told me Pastor Mcdouglas would sneak into the house while I was not around, cover the curtains, cover her mouth and force himself on her.

"My daughter said when he sees that she wants to shout to attract our neighbours, pastor will bring out the fairly-used clothes that I sell and pretend to be selecting from it,” she added.

She told the court that her daughter’s alleged sexual encounter with the defendant drove her (victim) into depression, which made her faint constantly. The mother added that the defendant would come to the house and pray for her daughter whenever she fainted. He further told them to sow seed to the church for her to stay alive

“I used my salary most times to sow seed on the instruction of Pastor Mcdouglas and my husband also gave him money to buy supplements for me.

She said sometimes, the pastor will call her to his house to help wash his children’s clothes and ended up raping her in his house. "He threatened my daughter that she would die if she told anyone about it”, she said.

During cross-examination by the defence counsel, Mr Suleiman Salami, the witness told the court that she had known the defendant for more than 12 years and that her husband had been outside Nigeria for 10 years. She stated that the defendant used to collect money from her family and he did not offer financial help to her family.

The woman said she was a member of the ushering department, an administrative officer and a member of the building committee of the church but left the church in 2020. She confirmed to the court that the survivor, who is her first daughter, was depressed from 2017 to 2020.

“My daughter is moody whenever she comes back from pastor’s house, which is inside the church. Pastor does not give me breathing space as he is always in my house.

"My daughter always faints anytime she comes back from ministration and pastor always gives her holy water to drink. This has affected my daughter as she always have suicidal thought because I once received a call from her school that she wanted to buy an insecticide,” she said.

Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal has advised Nigerian youths to refrain from being used as political thugs in the 2023 general election, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking at a recent rally of the party, Tambuwal told Nigerian youths to ask politicians who want to use them for thuggery, to use their children instead. He further said that they should not allow themselves to be used to compromise peaceful coexistence by perpetrating violence and chaos.

Tambuwal said;

A mother and her three children have been declared missing in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, IGBERETV reports.

The woman identified as Chinyere, from Umuokpara Amagu Nachi, and her kids were last seen at about 6:00 am on Monday, January 2, 2023.

According to reports, family and friends have been going round the whole village in search of them with no success.

An Anglican priest in Nnewi Diocese, Anambra State, Rev. Makuo Ogbuchukwu Lotanna, has announced his decision to return to the church three months after he resigned, IGBERETV reports.

Lotanna, a lawyer from Mbanagu Otolo Nnewi, had stated in his resignation letter on September 10, 2022, that he received a divine mandate to float a movement in support of polygamy.

He claimed that the movement, which would be called “Gideonites” was aimed at encouraging polygamy, with a vision to reducing the rate of sexual sins in society.

He also said the place of worship would be called “Gideonites Temple", adding that polygamy is not a sin, contrary to what is generally being preached.

According to him, what God hates is divorce of any type, and sleeping with another man’s wife.

He insisted that God desired men to even marry more than one wife, instead of going for someone’s wife or ladies they were not married to.

However, in a letter dated Monday, December 26, 2022 and titled; “To all beloved in Christ and all it may concern: Rescinding from my pro-polygamy movement,” Lotanna pledged full attention to all God had called him to do.

The cleric apologised to those who may have been disappointed in him and deceived or offended by his action.

He urged the over 200 persons that indicated an interest in joining his proposed new church, to disregard his previous comments on the movement. He also promised not to speak or work against the godly doctrines of his Church.

"I wish to inform the general body of Christ and the general public that I have submitted a letter of apology to my Lord Bishop for resigning from being a member of the body of Clergy Association of Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion). What led to my action was my misinterpretation of the revelations I received on a divine movement for SEXUAL PURITY," the letter read.

I have since pledged to give a full and undivided attention to all that God has called me to do as a priest in obedience to the instituted authority of the Church.

I have understood that for any program(s) to achieve sexual purity, it must of necessity be that which should build the CHURCH OF CHRIST and should be accepted by her. And I can not be numbered among those fighting the Church.

Hence; I, REV. OGBUCHUKWU MAKUO LOTANNA (ESQ) hereby withdraw my humble self from propagation of the POLYGAMY movement and plead with everyone (especially the over 200 persons that indicated interest for us to kick-start a Church, which I personally, never did) to jettison all I have said so far on this movement AS I HAVE BACKED OFF AND I AM FULLY BACK TO MY CHURCH and I have promised not to speak or work against the sound and godly doctrines of my Church.

I have also withdrawn and DELETED all the videos and messages I have preached or posted on the subject from all my social media handles and have CLOSED all the channels.

There are other programs for sexual purity the church will appreciate and be at home with, which will also help to build the society at large. I will henceforth be preoccupied with such programs to showcase my GENUINE INTENTIONS.

I thank those who have handled my case with love, prayers and maturity, and apologize to those who may have been disappointed in me, deceived or offended by my action.
