Deborah’s Killing: Tambuwal Declares 24-Hour Curfew In Sokoto Metropolis

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has declared a 24-hour curfew within the metropolis in a bid to prevent a curtail further spread of civil unrest trailing the death of Miss Deborah Samuel.

He announced the curfew on Saturday at the Government House in Sokoto, the state capital.

Deborah, a second-year student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, was killed on Thursday following an allegation that she had blasphemed Muhammad (SAW), the prophet of Islam.

According to the governor, the curfew has become necessary as the only option left for the government to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.

“Following the sad incident that happened at the Shehu Shagari College of Education on Thursday and sequel to the developments within (Sokoto) metropolis this morning till afternoon, by the powers conferred on me by Sections 176(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Section 1 and 4 of the Public Order Act, and also Section 15 of Sokoto State Peace Preservation Law, I hereby declare, with immediate effect, a curfew within (Sokoto) metropolis of Sokoto township for the next 24 hours,” he said.

“I appeal to the good people of Sokoto state to kindly continue to observe law and order and calm down (on the) restiveness currently pervading in the metropolis. Everyone should, please, in the interest of peace go back home and observe this measure with a view to the re-establishment of peace, law, and order in the state.

“It is not in the interest of anyone for us to have a breakdown of law and order. I, therefore, appeal for restraint and, for people to observe and respect the rule of law.”

Deborah’s death has sparked outrage from various individuals and groups across the country, including the Christian community who demanded that her killers be brought to justice.

The President has reacted to this, a statement which was issued earlier condemning the action.

The swift reaction of the Sokoto State Government and also the Sultan of Sokoto is highly commendable. Their swift reaction to the situation clearly demonstrated the outrage of millions of Nigerians and also demonstrated the desire of everyone to ensure that the perpetrators are quickly apprehended and prosecuted.

As the President said, there’s really no excuse for anyone to take the law into their own hands no matter the provocation, there are set processes for ensuring that we are able to redress whatever wrongs that are done against us.

I can't imagine how her parents, siblings and members of her family feel, not just about her death, but the very horrendous nature of its occurrence. Popular Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh has shared a screenshot showing the names she used in saving the contact details of some men in her phone, IGBERETV reports

The actress named the men based on their private organ.

One is saved as "Community d**k". Another is "snake d**k". There is also "small pr**k (waste of time)" and "big d**k (good times)".

She added that she decided to address the men in her life as they should be addressed.

"Everyone has a name," she wrote.

A 39-year-old food seller, Seun Sola, has been arrested for stabbing her ex-boyfriend in the stomach during a fight in Ondo State, IgbereTV reports.

It was gathered that the victim identified as Lomi Alara Akinbinu allegedly pounced on the suspect and started beating her after she told him their relationship was over.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the relationship between the two lovers turned sour after the single mother of twins started receiving attention from a new lover.

A source in the area told the publication that the victim had visited the suspect's home at Iyalaje market area in Ondo West Local Government in early hours of that day but met her twin children and gave them the sum of N500, then left.

The source said the victim returned to the house in the evening only to meet Sola and her new lover. She told him to leave her house as she was no longer interested in him.

Irked by the development, Akinbinu demanded the return of the N500 he gave to the twins and insisted that he wouldn't leave without collecting the money.

Sola said she refunded the money however a fight ensued between the two old lovers and the man was stabbed in the stomach.

"My ex-boyfriend came to my house in the afternoon and gave my twins five hundred naira for feeding. In the evening, he came back to my house and said he would come and sleepover at my place in the night," the suspect explained.

“But I told him that I am not interested in him anymore. Then he requested the money he gave my twins and I gave him the money immediately. Suddenly, he started beating me

"He beat me because when he came to my house, he met my present boyfriend with me. He was angry and started beating me. So, when I knew he had overpowered me, I used a knife to stab him in his stomach."

The victim was rushed to the Trauma Centre for treatment while the suspect was arrested and charged to court.

Married prospective female Corps members have been directed to report for registration at the orientation camps in their husbands’ state of domicile, irrespective of the states indicated on their call-up letters, IgbereTV reports.

National Youth Service Corps spokesperson, Emeka Mgbemena in a statement released on Wednesday March 23, said Director-General of NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave the directive in a nationwide virtual address to the 2022 Batch “A” Stream Two prospective corps members.

Mgbemena also said “the information is already contained on their call-up letters.” Married female NYSC members are to report to camp with their marriage certificates, evidence of change of name in a national newspaper and other valid marriage documents that were uploaded online during registration for service.

Noting that the policy was initiated to enable them to have a seamless service year, Ibragim however warned that any corps member caught presenting fake documents either on marital or health grounds in camp would be handed over to the law enforcement agents for prosecution.

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has said that he is not worried about the recent court judgment removing him from office, IGBERETV reports.

On March 8, a Federal High court sitting in Abuja ordered the removal of Umahi and his deputy, Eric Igwe, over their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Wednesday March 23, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, the Ebonyi governor said it is against the constitution for him to have been sued in the first instance.

“I’m not worried, because in the first place, there is no constitutional provision that says that the governor can be sued. So, I’m not suable, But a court judgment is a court judgment. I’m not interpreting it, but I can speak to the constitution and the constitution says that once you’re elected, you enjoy immunity.

As supreme court says, votes cast in an election belong to the candidates. And that’s why you have qualifications of a candidate and not qualifications of a political party. So, I’m not worried.

God allowed it so that where I couldn’t reach in terms of my consultation [on contesting the presidency], this situation has made it possible for me to reach those places, and to truly see that Nigerians love me and they want me and that is the reason for that.

And I want to thank the PDP and even the man that boasted that he did that hatchet job. If the people that crucified Christ knew that it would bring salvation to the whole world, they wouldn’t have done that.

Police in Mwiyala in the outskirts of Kakamega town, Kenya has arrested a 32-year-old woman who served her two children with food laced with poison leading to their death, IgbereTV reports.

Pherine Maero, a nurse by profession, poisoned her two children, aged 7 and 9, on Saturday night, March 5 and later called her estranged husband, to “come and collect the bodies of your children.”

Charles Akhonya, a watchman at the apartment where she lives, said the woman approached him at the gate at 3am, urging him to open the gate for the ‘husband’, but on following them to their house, he learned of two children lying dead on their bed.

The woman, who tried to stab herself with a knife on the neck, was rescued and is receiving treatment at a Kakamega hospital, even as police investigate the matter.

Neighbours who spoke to the press have divulged that the woman has been chaotic since separating with her husband, at one point smashing her husband’s car which was parked at the apartment.

Kakamega Central OCPD Valerian Obore confirmed the incident, saying the suspect, who is in critical condition at the hospital, will be arraigned for murder upon recovery.

The bodies of the minors were removed to the Kakamega County General Teaching & Referral Hospital mortuary.

A Nigerian clergyman, George Izunwa, has advised ladies against introducing a man that hasn't proposed to them to their parents, IgbereTV reports.

While speaking to his congregation recently, Izunwa advised ladies against introducing boyfriends to their siblings and friends.

According to him, such actions may block other people who are interested in them from approaching them.

In his words;

''Stop taking somebody who has not proposed to you to your parents house. Stop introducing somebody who has not proposed to you to your sisters and brothers. Don't assume relationship. Keep the person at arms length. Stop introducing the person to many of your friends. If somebody is dating you, let the person date you. If they ask, you say I am just going out with him. He is a date. Don't make it serious.

One of the reasons you shouldn't make it serious is because maybe somebody is 'eyeing' you. The person may think you are ocupied when you are not occupied. That you are dating somebody doesn't mean you can't take a date from another person. If he hasn't proposed, you can move.''

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Thursday, stormed the residence of fast-rising singers, Oniyide Azeez popularly known as Zinoleesky, and Ilerioluwa Oladimeji also known as Mohbad.

The singers are on the label of Azeez Fashola, artiste popularly known as Naira Marley.

The personnel of the NDLEA subsequently arrested the singers alongside three of their friends.

The arrest of the artistes was made known by a live video which has since gone viral.

However, in an exclusive chat with Daily Trust, the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest of the singers.

He stated that personnel of the agency found illicit drugs in the house of the artistes and this led to their arrest.

He said, ” Yes, they have been arrested because we had reliable information that they were in possession of drugs. We moved in on them and recovered drugs. That is why five of them were arrested; three males and two females.

“When their house was searched we found in their possession molly and cannabis. The investigation is still ongoing but we have to trace where they are getting these substances from.”

Their record label, Marlian Record headed by Naira Marley, is yet to react to the news of the arrest of their signees.

However, shortly after the arrest of his signees, Naira Marley took to his Instagram story to tell his fans that he was very angry, he simply wrote, “I’m so angry right now.”

Singer Paul Okoye of P-Square suffered an injury shortly after a performance in Liberia, IgbereTV reports.

Big Brother Naija stars, Tope Adenibuyan aka Teddy A and Oluwabamike Olawunmi aka Bambam have announced that they are expecting their second child, a baby boy, IGBERETV reports.

The couple shared the news in an episode of their TV show, Uncut With BamTeddy.

In the video, Teddy A amd Bam Bam visit the gym, where Teddy proceeds to regulate the exercises Bam Bam can engage in.

He says: "I’m a little particular about the type of exercises she does right now because she’s still in the early phase of our little prince coming."

Bam Bam then says: "I kind of like how protective of me he is; he’s always like oh don’t do too much baby, don’t break your nails.

The couple met as housemates on season 3 of Big Brother Naija. They began dating in the house and continued their relationship after they exited the show.

They announced their engagement on August 4, 2019.

Their traditional wedding held on September 7, 2019, and their church wedding took place on November 16 2019, in Dubai, UAE.

They welcomed their first child, a daughter Zendaya, in 2020.
