The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suffered another attack in Imo State as hoodlums vandalised its office in Isu Local Government Area, IGBERETV reports.

Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, who confirmed the incident in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, said that the attack was the fourth in the state.

"The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State, Professor Sylvia Uchenna Agu, has reported that our office in Isu Local Government Area office was attacked and vandalised. The incident occurred at the early hours of Tuesday, 20th December 2022," the statement read.

"Eight windows were smashed, and burglary proofs removed. Fortunately, the attackers could not access the building. Movable and immovable equipment as well as other materials were not removed or vandalised.

"However, as a precautionary measure, critical materials such as ballot boxes and voting cubicles have been evacuated to another INEC facility for safe keeping.

"Similarly, all uncollected PVCs have been secured, while security will be deployed to ensure the continuous collection of the cards by registered voters in the same premises,” he said.

Mr Okoye said that the incident had been reported to the police and other security agencies for necessary action.

“This is the fourth attack on INEC facilities in Imo State in less than three weeks following previous attacks on Orlu and Oru West Local Government Areas and the State Headquarters in Owerri", he stated.

The federal government on Wednesday, December 21, announced that those using the recently opened Second Niger Bridge will pay toll, IGBERETV reports.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) said the road will remain open till January 1 for inward travelers, and for those on outward journey from January 2 to 15.

Speaking an interview on Channels Television, Fashola said the bridge will be shut after January 15.

“Infrastructure is one of the instruments for economic growth and tackling multidimensional poverty.

“The purpose of the second Niger Bridge is to bring relief to Nigerians who traverse from east to west or west to east.

“Especially during the end of the year, we know that it is a logistics nightmare moving goods and services and people.

“The bridge itself is finished. The road linking it to the Obusi end on the Anambra side is finished, except for the interchange which is at different levels of completion. The road linking it to the Asaba side is the one that we could not finish.

“We know that it is a festive period; the ports are busy, sea and airports. The roads will also be busy. As part of the ember month plan, we decided to open it up and provide a choice for people (to either use the old bridge or the new one). We expect that it will relieve the inconvenience at this time of the year.

“We did the same thing on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

“There is still work to be done there, but we think that it can get better if we remove the construction barriers so that it is a proper thorough fair.

“We did the same thing in Abuja-Kano. On Abuja-Kano, which is 365 km, we have only five obstructions, and they are for safety.

“The current opening (on the second Niger bridge) for motorists is for those going to the East and will end on the 1st of January. It is currently a one-way crossing.

“On January 2nd, we will reverse what we have done and allow people to use it from January 3rd, that is, for those going back from the East to West.

“On the 15th of January, we will shut it down again so that we can finish the 4 km access road that we are trying to build and also complete the interchanges.

“Inevitably, the bridge will be tolled. That is the job of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

“Part of what we are looking at is that we have a bridge that is properly maintained.”

Umahi Orders Arrest Of Cook Over Bad Food Served During Xmas Party For Widows and Elders

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has ordered the immediate arrest of the cook who prepared the food served to widows and elders in the state, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking during the elders and widows’ Christmas party held at State Ecumenical Center, Abakaliki, Umahi said it was terrible for someone to give others what he or she cannot consume.

Umahi who failed to disclose the name of the cook vowed that the police would follow due process in investigating the cook for her to refund the money given to prepare the food.

"We are, therefore, going to repeat this party as we should celebrate our fathers and mothers well. The bible enjoins us to honour our fathers and mothers so that our days would be long on the earth," he said.

"I want my days to be long because I have suffered from my youth. Presently that I have seen light, I want God to prolong my life so that I can partake in the miracles in Ebonyi,” he said.

He declared that he would inspect the food to be served to the widows and elders during the repeat celebration.

"I have directed the deputy governor and my senior special adviser on religion and welfare matters, to make adequate preparations. The celebration must be held on December 20 or 21 as anyone who takes what belongs to this category of people is taking trouble,” he said.

Umahi also expressed dismay over the quality of wrappers given to the widows and elders, describing them as low in quality.

"We gave the civil servants high-quality wrappers and they were happy. The people who supplied those of the civil servants should be ready to supply 10,000 highest quality wrappers to the widows and elders,” he added.

He advised parents to inculcate good morals in their children to check the social vices being witnessed in the country, especially in the south east zone.

Former DMW signee, Yonda, has apologised to his ex-Boss, Davido, to forgive him and accept him back, IGBERETV reports.

A big bomb factory has been uncovered by the police in Ebonyi state, IGBERETV reports.

Ebonyi Police spokesperson Chris Anyanwu who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, December 15, said the discovery followed an operation by the Police during which its operatives engaged in a gun battle with IPOB/ESN members leading to the death of two of the separatist group members and arrest of one of the state commanders.

Anyanwu said the bomb factory was discovered in a camp at Obegu, a boundary area between Onicha-Isu and Ishielu LGAs of Ebonyi State.

The statement read;

“The invasion of the criminals’ den was necessitated by an earlier encounter between operatives of the Command’s Tactical Teams, sequel to a credible information gathered that the hoodlums were operating/wreaking havoc in the State with a Toyota Sienna space bus which they robbed at gun point from the owner within Ishielu axis.

“A quick trail and joint effort with a team of detectives attached to Ohaukwu Division led to the arrest of Sunday Ubah a.k.a Bongo, the State Commander of the IPOB/ESN in Ebonyi State.

“The miscreant who gave revealing pieces of information about the activities and modus operandi of the criminals, initially claimed that he is their PRO and native of Umunnochi in Isuikwuato LGA, Abia State.

"However, a scrupulous investigation aided by his antecedents/profile with the Police Command proved that he is a native of Obegu, Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State and indeed the factional Commander of the outfit in Obegu”.

Anyanwu said a couple of Police operatives sustained minor bullet injuries while two of the hoodlums were neutralized during the shootout that ensued. One of the suspects (the Commander) WAS apprehended while others escaped with various degrees of bullet injuries.

Following the gun duel, a joint team of the Command’s Tactical Teams, the Military and DSS, armed with credible information courtesy of the suspect, swooped on the houses/residences of the Commander and others.

The search warrant which was executed, led to recovery of massive incriminating exhibits.

Anyanwu added;

“The Police bomb expert in the Command described it as a complete Bomb Factory – the biggest in the South-East and that each of the hand grenades (first of its kind) is capable of causing collosal damage to buildings and mass killing of humans,” Anyanwau said

Items recovered include “30 pieces of IEDs using safety fuses primed in non-electric initiator/detonator, Sixty-three (63) wraps of Super power 90mm gelatin, two (02) Solar prime 90mm gelatin, sixteen (16) Danger 90 gelatin, twenty (20) Ideal power 90 gelatin 50mm, two hundred and thirty-nine (239) pieces of plain Non-electric detonators, fourteen (14) pieces of primed nonels, ninety-nine (99) pieces of one-inch safety fuses, and One complete roll of Safety fuse.”

A 19-year-old man identified as Sadiq Safiyanu has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly stabbing his friend, Ibrahim Dole, with a machete while fighting over N200 Indian hemp, IGBERETV reports.

The police dragged both men before the Jimeta Area Court II in Adamawa state for offenses ranging from the disturbance of public peace, inciting disturbance and causing hurt contrary to sections 79, 80 and 217 of the penal code law.

The police say Sadiq, stabbed Ibrahim in the hand on the 10th December, 2022, while fighting over the Indian Hemp.

According to police investigations, Sadiq sent a boy to buy him the banned substance, however, on his way back, the little boy was stopped by Ibrahim who then collected the hemp from him and seized it.

When Sadiq got wind of the situation, he picked up a machete and went to confront Ibrahim. Ibrahim removed the Indian hemp from his pocket and showed it to Sadiq, stating that no man born of a woman will collect it from him. A fight ensued between both men and in the process, Sadiq stabbed Ibrahim in his hand.

Following their arraignment, both men pleaded guilty. After the defendants' plea, the Prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the matter to enable him call a witness for the purpose of corroboration.

The court presided by Abubakar Balarabe, adjourned the case to the 10th January, 2023, for corroboration and summary trial.

Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo has said that the state is safe for those returning home for the Yuletide season, IGBERETV reports.

Governor Soludo stated this while reacting to a viral message circulating in the state, which had warned Christmas returnees to avoid certain roads claiming they had been taken over by criminals.

Dismissing the threat, Soludo assured the people that his government was making every effort to ensure that Anambra was secured during the forthcoming Yuletide.

The governor said that besides checkpoints and security patrols, the state was also putting technology and other mechanisms to enable people to report criminals timely enough for immediate action.

These were contained in a press statement by the governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Sunday.

He said the state was leveraging technology to make it possible for people to make distress calls and share messages and videos of incidents that will enhance security response and services.

The statement read,

“The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to a viral message by an anonymous writer, insinuating insecurity in some parts of the state during the Yuletide period.

“In the message, the author listed some roads and junctions which he/she warned returnees and visitors to the state to avoid for fear of attacks by gunmen. The information is mischievous, misleading, and untrue.

“Soludo assures adequate security in the state during the yuletide and beyond.

“The state is also leveraging technology to make it possible for people to make distress calls and share messages, videos and otherwise, of incidents that will enhance security response and services.

“The governor remains focused on making Anambra State the safest state in Nigeria, and no misleading information or mischievous write-ups will stop him from achieving this.

“In line with this resolve, the governor urges the good people of Anambra, residents, and visitors to ignore any unfounded alarm meant to infuse fear in them or discourage them from visiting the state.

“These are idle engagements which the government has all that it takes to deal with.”

Eleven people died after eating food suspected to have been poisoned in the Ikobi community in the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, IGBERETV reports.

Those who lost their lives were identified to include: Adi Ale, Ochefije Ojo, Maria Ojo, Aipu Ochefije, Aboyi Ngbede Ochefije, Mary Ochoyoda and Ehi Abu.

Others are: Blessing Abu, Peace Ochoyoda, Ojochono Daniel and Favour Edoh.

A man identified as Ochoyoda Abu lost his wife (Mary), two sisters (Ehi and Blessing) and a daughter (Peace).

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Catherine Anene, who confirmed the report to The Nation on Monday, November 21, 2022, said the incident happened last week.

According to the PPRO, a woman had gone to the house of her family members who died of food poisoning three months ago and cleaned up the house only for her to pack some foodstuffs from the house to her house.

The same food was said to have been cooked while those who ate the food were reported to have suffered a severe illness.

"About three months ago there was a case of someone who died of food poisoning at a particular house in the (Ikobi) community," the PPRO explained.

“Few months after the incident, precisely on the 14 of this month (November) a woman who was possibly a family member of the deceased went to the house of the deceased to clean up the house and in the process found food stuff there which she brought to her house to cook.

"Unfortunately, after cooking the food she served some people and after eating the food, twelve people suffered illness and were taken to hospital but seven of them died and the other five who were rushed to the hospital for treatment have reunited with their families,"

Receiving sympathizers in the community on Monday, November 21, the Acting beaded Chief of Ikobi, Chief Musa Audi through the Secretary, Ikobi Traditional Council, Abogonye Ochola John, said the incident remains a mystery.

He added that if not God, there would have been a total turmoil as the situation has resulted to suspicion, hatred and blame game among families in the community.

A Nigerian identified as Tunde has stated that flirting is not cheating after his girlfriend confronted him for flirting with one of her friends, IGBERETV reports.

Tunde got confronted by his girlfriend after she found out he was having improper conversations with one of her female friends via Instagram DM.

Rather than apologize, Tunde put up a defense saying that flirting isn't cheating. According to him, having phone intimacy with girlfriend's friend, and asking the lady for her nude pictures isn't cheating, as long as he didn't have sex with her.

A 45-year-old man identified as Segun Omotosho Ebenezer, was on Sunday November 20, arrested by men of Ogun state Police Command for allegedly beating his 42-year-old wife, Omotosho Olubukola to death, IGBERETV reports.

The arrest of the suspect followed a complaint lodged at Kemta divisional headquarters on the 14th of November 2022, by the elder sister of the deceased, who reported that the Olubukola was beaten and seriously injured by her husband over a minor disagreement.
Bukola was subsequently rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba Abeokuta, by the suspect for medical attention, but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.

Unknown to the husband, the deceased had sent a voice note to her family members, informing them that her husband had used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her, and that if she died, they should be aware that it was her husband that killed her.

As soon as the voice note was played to his hearing, the husband took to his heels having realized that his evil deed had been exposed.

Upon the report and the recording evidence, the DPO Kemta division, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, detailed his detectives to go after the killer husband and fish him out.

He was subsequently traced to Akinseku village Abeokuta where he had been hibernating, and was promptly apprehended.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said preliminary investigation revealed that their incessant quarrels was because the deceased built a private school, and her husband who is a carpenter, wanted to take over the control of the school. However, Bukola who was an NCE graduate refused. This was why he continued to abuse her until that fateful day when he used the iron padlock to hit her on the head, which eventually led to her death.

Abimbola said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

The police in Kwara state on Sunday, October 2, are currently in search of one Abubakar Abubakar over the killing of his 12-year-old brother, Yusuf Abubakar, both sons of one Abubakar Abubakar a hunter in Dutse Gogo town via Kaiama, IGBERETV reports.

According to the police, preliminary investigation shows that the fatal incident happened while Abubakar was testing the efficacy of the newly procured gunshot protective charm.

''This incident happened after fortifying themselves with the protective charm, the elder son brought his father's dane gun and shot his younger sibling, the charm failed and the 12year old Yusuf Abubakar died on the spot.

The culprit escaped into the bushes immediately the act was committed.'' SP Okansanmi Ajayi, spokesperson of the command said.

The police spokesperson added that investigation into the matter has commenced as directed by the Commissioner of Police Kwara State, CP Paul Odama. He called on parents and guidances to monitor the activities of their children and avoid doing certain unsavory activities while their children and wards watches, to prevent incidents of this nature.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has responded to questions about the health of All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, IGBERETV reports.

Umahi who spoke while fielding questions on Channels TV's Sunrise Daily today October 3, said that those who are saying that Tinubu is not healthy are being petty.

He also said that Tinubu's workout video which is trending online, was taken without his knowledge.

Umahi said;

“Nobody is totally well, and nobody is totally sick; this is one point. Another point is that Nigerians are petty; some of us are petty.

“A man doing his workout, you know, is being videoed and circulated on social media without his knowledge.

“And so, a man that has life does not need to show any proof of life. Asiwaju has life, and he doesn’t need to show any proof of life, and you can see that.

“I think we should concentrate on tangibles because life is like being on the bus, and you don’t know where the next bus stop is.

“Some of the people talking about the health of the leaders of the country don’t even know when their bus stop is coming. So, we should rely on tangibles. Every life and health rests in the hand of God; that is how I look at it.”
