In 1984 something happened in Lake Monoun in Cameroun and 37 people died. In 1986, Lake Nyos killed 1700 people. The symptoms of their deaths were no different from those of the victims of Hiroshima. They threw up, scratched their skins and were convulsion. Besides there was a loud bang and a bright flash that morning. Even though this event was not announced by the Camerounian Government, the Israeli Prime Minister arrived in Cameroun with a team of scientists who proceeded to research the results of the event. High concentration of CO2 will not make you scratch your skin off. |
I abandoned Chemistry as a course because of this Lake Nyos incident that happened in the '80s and the way most chemistry textbooks just ridiculously explained it away. At that point in time, I didn't know what really happened in Lake Nyos, all I knew that the story of the lake overturning to release Carbon Dioxide was cooked up. There was a time when South Africa and Israel developed Nuclear Weapons. Where do you all think those weapons were tested? You think Israel has untested Nuclear Warheads? The President of Cameroun knows the deal he struck with the governments of Israel and RSA in 1986 to test Thermonuclear Weapons in the lakes around that area. Nigeria should not be made to pay for the long term effects of their scheming. You people should stop making Nigeria look bad ALL THE TIME. What the Federal Government should do is issue a very strong warning to the government of Cameroun informing them that since it was a military exercise that led to this whole dilemma, if the government of Cameroun and their cohorts do not handle this matter, if the dam gives way and kills Nigerians, it will be seen as a military attack 23 years in the making, which will attract full military retaliation. The way you guys are shouting at the Nigerian Government rather than the Camerounian Government is really amazing to me. It is like citizens of the USA insulting their government because if Malaria is not eradicated from Africa, it could later spread to the USA and kill lots of people. Should the USA shoulder this responsibility or they should prevail on our Government to take care of its business. Please, let's support our government in issuing a strong worded statement to the Camerounian President and we should also back our government in any action it takes against Cameroun in defence of our citizens. They know what they did there 23 years ago, we shouldn't pay billions for it. |
@dremoney may you be abundantly blessed for you post because I was beginning to fear I was the only one who noticed. Mo Gbono Feli Feli by D'banj had a completely messed up. I just saw the video of You Bad by Wande Coal and the video was just "undirected". |
NEVER!!! I've never even whispered it. Loud and Proud. Naija till I die. People claim it and try to believe it, but I know it. Nigeria is the centre of the world. Or why you think everybody is just beefing? |
The government should call on Israel and South Africa to do something because when they were testing thermonuclear devices there in '86, they should've thought about this. |
@Akwasi please read the post by Liedetect. Do recall that during the period of this event, Lagos was still the capital city of Nigeria. Now, hundreds of thousands of Nigerian entrepreneurs being deported back to the country will most likely end up in Lagos and if they find not enough "lebensraum", the government would create it and how best than to eject those from where our people were ejected? I believe people acted without thinking. @Wily-Wily shalt thee not mend thy ways? |
It's nice to see my people mix up so well. Loving the thread more and more cos some of the people I see on Nairaland repping to the fullest are turning out to be from where I is. lol |
I said this two years ago when the N20 notes came out and the cost of minting a unit note was not made public even on a website that list out countries using polymer notes and the details of their production, only Nigeria's N20 note was listed with an unknown price. And people were wondering why the man wanted to redenominate and reprint new currency a few months later. You people think Anambra governorship is contested with grains of sand. However, I don't know why this news is coming up now when the man has shown interest in Anambra? ENEMIES! |
@r231 I get your drift, but the truth is I really am not that desperate and besides, I know a lot of these Europeans get betrayed all the time by Nigerians and I just don't want to be an addition to the statistic. I addition to that, I take marriage as a very sacred institution rather than a means to some ulterior end. Then again, my ex won't appreciate knowing I got married to anyone else even if It's for the best. I've noted your words though and the instant I perceive something ulterior from the Dutch lady (ie she wan use me born another half caste), I'll look into your words again. |
8 room rented apartment (face me, ) with a 3 bedroom flat on the same plot of a large plot on Siluko Road Benin City. Price: 3.5 million Priority: Urgent Contact: nexbestthing@yahoo.com Travelling out of the country or moving permanently back to Lagos at year's end. |
@POSAKOSA1 Your advice is the point at which I am right now. But finding a new girl is kinda difficult for of right now cos I show no interest at all. Just yesterday some girl was showing me a boy/girl text she typed on her phone and I knew she was talking about me and her, but I just told her it was cute and I hope whoever the guy, if comes to his senses. @agabaI23 Thanks man. I'm personally not a long distance relationship person and I know that if we continue to deliberate on the phone for more than two months, I'll let it go. I can even hardly keep a relationship between Lekki and Yaba. Anyway, I'll try to put more effort. Forgive my typo earlier, it's either T9 or thinking ahead me my fingertips. |
@omega25red Believe me, my ex is always thinking of me. Her elder sisters call all the time trying to advice of how to make things work, but she tries to be strong. Last year, she came back to Naija just to see if staying permanently was an option, she even took up a job with Zenith, but she got robbed one morning at gun point and she just put together all her savings, up and went back. I'm actually giving the German chick a chance, but first, since she has a kid by a Nigerian father whom I'm yet to know what happened to, I'm a bit weary about being used as a replacement father. And that aside, I don't know whether she just wants me to give a sister to her son and call it off. Well, It's not like I'm a saint or something, I could work with that, but marriage to me is VERY serious. This chick is 29 and she believes there's no time entering a relationship which will not lead to marriage ASAP. I'm a year older. My ex in the UK is 27 and we talked about giving ourselves at least a year before marriage, but like I stated above, things didn't quite work out. |
@agabaI23 I'm not fascinated by white chicks. I just believe they're manageable. The thing is I have a crib in Benin City and I'm sure she could come but the problem is her son. We bought have to worry about if he wants to be here and the level of comfort he can cope with. NEPA, Water, Traffic, the weather and all that |
I've been hooked on my ex for about 4 years now and we mutually agreed to break up in order not to continue with a long distance relationship which our love turned to since she first travelled to the UK for her masters' program. We still are very much in love, but recently, actually a couple of days ago, we had a very long phone call in which we promised each other to find someone new and carry on. So I'm trying to do just that. I'm looking for a woman with brains, who loves poetry and takes no shit from no man (including me). Someone who's fun to talk to and totally down to earth. A brown skinned woman with class and razz, who's proud to be African and can cook better than me. I'm in Lagos for a bit. Magodo GRA area (not one of them rich playboys), I've been on Nairaland for I while now, and most know that usually I don't come off this way, but I'm just being real. |
I recently met this old Yahoo Messenger friend of mine with whom I used to chat about 5 years ago. She added me on Facebook and after a couple of months watching me live my seemingly simple life on Facebook, she wants us to tie the knot straight up. I've had my cousin check up on her in Germany so she's definitely not a scam, but the thing is, first off, I'm not that mad about white chicks, secondly, she's got a son for some other Naija guy whose story I'm yet to investigate. Most importantly, I know I ain't getting any younger, but marriage seems so overwhelming to me. It always has been, and besides my heart still rests with my ex. We broke up out of mutual understanding cos she was travelling to the UK and I don't know how to keep long distance relationships. Now, another additional problem is that this German chick doesn't want to stay in Naija, and me I'm afraid if I go to Germany I'll be so close to my ex that things could pick up cos we still talk and we still wish every now and then. Hence the dilemma of what to do. |
More Naira to Seun's website. That goes to show how important Nairaland is in the world. Let's be more conscious of the veracity of what we post here. |
What has caution got to do with Soludo for President? Doesn't it even sound like music to your ear? "Soludo For President". Would you rather Oshiomhole or Badluck Jonathan? |
A lot of you underestimate the power of sycophancy in this country. A lot of the crimes Abacha committed, he wasn't even aware of. President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua is definitely unaware of this drama, and honestly, this whole hide and seek game is too petty for him. This Imohe fellow was trying to get in the good books of Yar'Adua, Turai Yar'Adua that is. Anyway, Nigerians should stop complaining either way things go. If you complain when evil is done, then appreciate when It's turned to good. No matter your suspicion. |
When that dictator Buhari was ruling this country like an animal farm, flogging men like beasts, I wonder why he didn't give an official statement that Nigerians would soon revolt. When atiku (I don't even think that coward's name should be spelt with a capital letter anymore) was sitting atop PTDF with a bamboo straw between his lips, sucking this country dry, I wonder why he didn't give an official statement that the 1999 electoral laws with which he came into power would cause a revolution. Olu Falae, that one eyed goat, did he not read the electoral laws before competing in the 1999 elections? So in other words, we'll begin the revolution with those that show so much belief in the system that disenfranchises the people. Buhari, atiku, Falae, keep inciting a revolution, but know that we've got you on our radar; your names tattooed on our cutlass. |
And they say that Yar'Adua was stupid for not attending the last UN General Session or whatever. A temporary seat in useless to us. Nigeria, Brazil, India, Australia and Saudi Arabia are overdue for permanent seats on the UN security council. Their regions have little or no representation. Imagine the imbalance with Europe having about 4 seats while Africa has none, Asia and America have 1 each, the Middle East has none. |
Where's the link to this story? |
I started a very lazy work out program earlier in the year and it has paid off all the same. I was very alarmed when I met a chick with a really hot body one day in V.I and it turns out she's a model from Ivory Coast. I want us to all remember that we were not created to be docile beings. Work out please. |

@Jakumo I'm not saying he is, I'm saying be careful cos he may be. As for Afam, I would never call him anything of such or even insinuate it. The man is intelligent, but these superstitions, they have a way of clouding a man's mind. I just want to two test subjects to be approved as Afam and nex. The primary subject should adorn a spiritual bulletproof, while the subject for the control experiment will be geared with a standard Armed Forces approved Kevlar vest. Then shots are taken in turns. What is so complicated about that? |
