Politics › Re: Success In Nigeria - Minister Ojo Maduekwe by nex(m): 4:53am On Oct 29, 2009
I don't like the man personally, but I know Ojo Madueke is one of the best and most experienced diplomats anywhere in the world today. I still wonder how he didn't make Minister of Information, though I feel Foreign Ministers suits him all the same.

And please the amn said a lot for the little time he had and in line with the questions asked.

Nigeria's role in global security
The African Continent showing appreciation to Nigeria through the massive votes
Preventive Diplomacy to avoid violence is what Nigeria wants to see the UN engage more in
Providing solution for injustice, electoral failure, and pandemics
70% of issues discussed at the UN are about Africa, so we should have a permanent member.

@naijamini

how is it possible for you to say the man didn't say much? Abeg, he repped to the fullest.

We have seen several of these money spinning alarms blown in Nigeria every once in a while. You all remember the Staphylococcus scare that came from these trado-medical doctors. What about when Aloe Vera made waves round the world. It was like if you weren't consuming Aloe Vera in a form or another, you would soon die.

When Thabo Mbeki became President of South Africa, he said it that HIV AIDS was not the main immune deficiency syndrome affecting his people. But when the condom manufacturers and ARV drug makers realized they were about to lose their greatest market, they turned to their media who made Mbeki into an ignorant illiterate monkey who everyone should run away from. But we all know Thabo Mbeki is no fool. The ignorance of the masses would have overwhelmed him if he hadn't withdrawn that statement.

Let's be careful what we believe from the Western Media. There was a time the WHO called on all nations towards the eradication of Malaria and Mosquitoes, by the time every country had contributed efforts to this, they eradicate the mosquitoes in their area and finally said they'd found out it wasn't possible to eradicate Mosquitoes in the world. Even the countries that wanted to continue on their own were banned from using the chemical of choice, DDT for many reasons their research turned up. In addition to that, I stumbled upon a document which showed that Mosquitoes were even helpful in checking population of 3rd world countries.

I sign out jare. Oyibo sef don tire me.

NTA staff are better trained and more experienced than these other trial and error journalists all over the place.

The thing is that NTA journalists cover stories their bosses want them to cover and the private practitioners cover stories their bosses want them to cover.

Have you ever heard Silverbird staff carry a story about Ben Murray Bruce sleeping with Stella Obasanjo? Have you heard MBI carry news that Chris Oyakhilome has not accounted for all the money he makes in his Christ Embassy or that his miracles are suspicious?

So what are we saying here? Which journalists are better trained and know what their jobs entail?

The complete destruction of NTA was mainly with Tony Iredia as Director General.

@agathamari

when we say something is a fad, we're not saying it doesn't exist. We're saying it being for more exaggerated by a million times than it really is by some particular people who have something to gain from its propularity, and the ideology is being bought en masse by the gullible public.

Did you not know how dangerous bird flu was when it was in Asia. The Western Media presented Bird Flu just like Ebola. When Bird Flu got to France though, and the French saw the effect it would have on their economy, they revealed to the world that chicken was safe to consume as long as it was cooked above 100 degrees Celcius. So where's the almighty bird flu today? Just a fad.

Yesterday it was Global Cooling, today It's global warming, and the next decade, they will be alarmed that the Global Climate is Too Steady.

Are not the same people who scream about global warming all the time the same ones who endorse bombing of the moon by their government? Where was Al Gore and all those stupid Green Peace clowns? Don't they know that the moon affects earth's weather? At least the rising of sea tide for one.

Abeg Climate Change na scam.

You should watch Silverbird entertainment news where almost everything is about the Silverbird Galleria, the Silverbird Group, or an artiste or company that has paid a fine fee.

I really don't know what they teach at the NUJ if at all these clowns passed through any such institution.

Everyday, there's a new story from one of their sources. No concrete facts.
Politics › Re: Yar'adua Threatens To Shut Down AIT by nex(m): 4:20pm On Oct 28, 2009
Fellow Nigerians, what is this all about?

What Yar'Adua did is the most diplomatic thing. He could sue AIT and with the laws of any land, he'd win. This is just simple out of court settlement. If AIT knew they would win a court case, they'd have called the President's bluff.

"The preliminary freedom extends as well as to the false as to the true; the subsequent punishment may extend as well to the true as to the false. This was the law of criminal libel apart from statute in most cases, if not in all"

"The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man in falsely shouting fire in a crowded theatre and causing panick, The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such a way as to cause a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantiative evils that Congress has a right to prevent"

"The Constitutional guarantees of free speech and free press do not permit the State to forbid or proscribe advocacy of the use of force or of law violation, except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such actions."

"The people shall not be deprived or abridged of their right to speak, to write or otherwise publish but false facts, affecting injuriously the life, liberty, property, or reputation of others, or affecting the peace of the confederacy with foreign nations."

None of the laws I've quoted above are from any Nigerian military decree or law, they are from legal documents guiding the USA. These laws are not always called upon so many transgressions of Fox News are overlooked but when there's a clear and present danger, you will all be witnesses.

CNN was almost like that, talking all sorts of crap about George Bush's policies, however, there was a time when the Iraqi was started and CNN, in trying to make us be the first to know, showed some dead bodies of USA soldiers on the streets of Iraq. George Bush had to threaten them to conformity.

When claustrophobic people are locked up in small spaces for extended periods, they tend to want to take their own lives.

What exactly has Nigeria to do with this?
Politics › Re: Is Climate Change For Real Or A Fraud? by nex(m): 3:34pm On Oct 26, 2009
Let's be real here. Were the dinosaurs driving fast cars and flying in private jet made in coal powered factories before the climate changed on them?

Nobody is saying the climate won't change, it will. Just like the weather will change and the Season will change, climate will change. It's natural. But what I can't stand is for that endangered species consuming Al Gore to tell me we're the ones causing it. We're definitely not.

We've seen this all before. When the western nations need money they don't deserve, they spread lies and embark on a new project: slavery, colonization, world war, space travel, missile defence system, cold war, world power, foreign aid, european union, millenium bug, WMDs, global warming.

Recently, Al Gore asked Obama to invest $400 billion on "Green" electric grid. Something that would not normally cost more than $30 billion.

Global warming is natural, but some people have hijacked it to milk the world of money.

Remember the millenium bomb, do you honestly believe that software engineers could not have taken a computer and set the date to the year 00? They saw the results were nothing serious, but they needed to make money and they had the support of their media and government. They did swerve Nigeria of a couple of billions through that scam. Now viewicte come again.

The green economy with green jobs, green factories, green cars, green power and a green government will only put some green in the pockets of some countries.
Foreign Affairs › Re: South African White Couple Produced A Black Looking Baby Girl - Sandra Laing by nex(m): 2:40pm On Oct 26, 2009
This happens and I've heard South Africans talk about such occurrences in their country.

If one Oyibo man crosses with one African woman to produce four children, phenotypically, 1 child should be totally African, 1 should be totally white and 2 should be mixed. Now, if the two mixed-looking individuals from the first filial generation are crossed, we're meant to have genetypically, 1 pure Oyibo, 1 pure African and 2 half castes.

Now, that pure Oyibo still has some recessive African genes which will show up when crossed with another pure Oyibo individual with the same kind of history, will most likely produce such a child.

PS: I hope you liked biology.
Politics › Re: Yar'adua Threatens To Shut Down AIT by nex(m): 1:50pm On Oct 26, 2009
Inciting and Misinforming the public are crimes in almost every country of the world. It is not Speech, Expression or Press. It is a very grievous crime.

During Obasanjo's first tenure, there was a journalist who claimed Obasanjo made $1 million for every trip he made abroad. He was shocked when the charges were being read to him in court.

Some time back, Channels Television announced the death of President Yar'Adua. Do you know the kind of turmoil such news could have thrown Nigeria into? So you people don't know there are laws preventing journalists from turning the USA to Somalia.

And as expected, I got banned for saying what I said. Nairaland'll never change.

Facebook too much jare. In as much as I don't break the rules, nobody can ban me on Facebook. And as much as I'm continuously being banned on Nairaland for no offence whatsoever, it gives me much pleasure cos it just goes to prove what I say. YOU GET BANNED ON NAIRALAND FOR SAYING ANYTHING CONTRARY TO WHAT THE OWNER AND MODERATORS WANT TO BE SAID.

Nairaland, change O! change! Change so you can be like Facebook. Be democratic. I don't know how Nigerians can come on a website that practises dictatorship and discuss the democracy of their country Nigeria.

PITY.

PS: Ready to be banned jare. Peace.

@Truequest

you must be an INEC staff. Now you know how the counting goes on.

@fyneguy

it is obvious that you're not a card carrying member of any political party in Nigeria and have never voted.

@smile4kenn

I guess you're trying to endorse do or die politics by mentioning the way Funsho was died down in order for AC to carry Lagos in 2007.

@All

I wonder if It's not the same people who claim that the PDP are always rigging so there's no need to vote, our votes don't count. How come the PDP has not simply rigged the elections in Kano and Lagos, rather they're busy wasting their time trying to garner support. Y'all are just double mouthed.
Nairaland General › Re: Nairaland Versus Facebook by nex(m): 3:46pm On Oct 23, 2009
@Moses

if you want to start a discussion or pursue a cause on Facebook, just like you start a thread on Nairaland, you can start a group on Facebook.

I started about 3 groups on Facebook (Enyimba, Lagos, and Vote Reprudencia Sonkey as Miss Africa United States), I'm a moderator in 2 groups (Album Review, and Naija ADs), and I'm a member of about 50 other groups (sundays @ d bay, Nairalanders on Facebook, Taruwa, I watched NTA 2 Channel 5 when I was a kid, Light Up Nigeria, Naija MAC Users, Edo Girls are Hotttt, , and several more)

there's even a Facebook Group I'm in that is more than ten times larger than the entire Nairaland with more than 5 million members ( Feed A Child With Just One Click).

We post notes, have discussions, organize events, mobilize members, sponsor activities and have discussions.

There's a Facebook event of one of the groups am in, It's going down on Sunday (Sundays @ D Bay). Moses, if you attend Sundays at the Bay just once, you will sing Facebook praise and worship songs forever.

Most people just come on Facebook to post photos, status updates and leave. Then tomorrow, they say Facebook is boring. Can you even compare Mafia Wars with any of the games we play on any other website?

I don't know why people should get offended when someone says one website is a waste of time to them. There are times when all you want to do is watch time pass while you give yourself some form of activity to ameliorate the boredom. That's wasting time and I do that both on Nairaland and Facebook sometimes. So I don't see why insults should arise.

The only website I know so far why insults are so brazenly thrown at innocent bystanders and lies are blatantly upheld as truth, with moderators stealthily awaiting unsuspecting, rule abiding members of the forum for banning, that site is called NAIRALAND!

Politics › Re: 2011: "PDP Must Win Kano, Lagos’" by nex(m): 6:26pm On Oct 21, 2009
In the 2003 elections in Lagos, Bola Tinubu of the AD defeated the PDP's Funsho Williams with just about 100,000 votes.

Prior to the 2007 elections, it was clear that there was not another candidate from any party in Lagos that could defeat Funsho Williams and at that time Lagos state was the only state in the hands of Afenifere. If Funsho Williams had been allowed to run for Lagos on the platform of the PDP, where would Afenifere have run to? So they had the man killed and named an avenue in his memory.

Without the murder of Funsho Williams, AC would never have won Lagos. Who knew Fashola when the entire Lagos was screaming Funsho? Even Tinubu was not bold enough to speak negative about Funsho.

So it is very upsetting for anyone to come here and say the PDP could never win Lagos.
Politics › Re: This Is Why I Hate Nigerians. by nex(m): 6:07pm On Oct 21, 2009
This is the kind of ignorance you see everywhere in the world.

The British came to Nigeria to extract everything they could and repatriate everything possible, including hardworking and intelligent human beings among the natives over to Britain.

The Boers, Scottish and others who went to South Africa went there to settle down, build a home and settle down and they've been there since the 16th Century.

This Joe is an idiot and I hope himself and his party never comes to government else they sell us to the Oyibo man again in the belief that we will have development. Idiot!
Politics › Re: Ecowas Suspends Niger Republic by nex(m): 5:50pm On Oct 21, 2009
Yar'Adua has promised that he will not let that man perpetuate himself in Niger. If they want to have elections with irregularities, they should have, but third term? God forbid!

I don't know if this ECOWAS suspension will have enough effect on the president of Niger. Sanctions which will affect the presidency and top government officials who will benefit from the third term have to be placed rather than those which will punish the masses of Niger only.

Niger Republic can hold Nigeria to ransom by putting a hold on one of them trans-Saharan gas projects.

If I want to be happy, or I'm happy, or want to remain happy, I'll stick to Facebook. If I'm angry, or trying to get angry, or want to remain angry, I'll go straight to Nairaland.

Facebook doesn't take sides in an argument or start to skew arguments by deleting posts.

I just chatted with my classmate from primary school on Facebook.

There are various platforms through which I meet Facebook friends face to face.

There are groups that can be formed to pursue common interests on Facebook.

You can meet a lot of people in society and even if not add them as friends, at least give them a decent piece of you mind on Facebook (without being rude of course) you can't do that on Nairaland because even Yar'Adua will deny his own ID.

People are more honest and real on Facebook while on Nairaland, people claim what they cannot do.

I now get some news earlier through status updates on Facebook than on Nairaland, but I believe for more detailed comprehensive news, It's Nairaland.

I've been offered more than 5 jobs on Facebook while on Nairaland, I've only been offered one job and I've been on Nairaland far longer than Facebook.

You can add friends on Facebook, Nairaland, no!

On Nairaland you can easily buy or sell cars, on Facebook, It's not that easy.

On Nairaland you can go crazy and behave like a beast from the jungle while on Facebook you have to civil.

On Nairaland, the "Seun" can always come and harass members while on Facebook there's no fear of Mark Zuckerberg.

On Facebook, you get to choose who you interact with while on Nairaland, you get assualted and insulted by every Chuks, Ade and Hamisu.

I joined Facebook after I was permanently banned from Nairaland for simply saying "To some, Hitler is a hero". I've never been banned on Facebook cos I keep to the rules of whatever I do.

Ignorance is boldly imposed on others on Nairaland while on Facebook, people stick more to what they know.

Nairaland is important, but I prefer Facebook a thousand times.

The fate of Africans and all people of African origin rests on Nigeria.

Every other regional power hates the rise of a new regional power in any region. You may want to ask yourself the real reason they hate Iran and China so much. India will soon join the hate-list, then Brazil.

We're going where we should be and nothing, no one can stop us. We will make a home of pride for our African brothers in Europe, the Caribean and the Americas just as it was written, so shall it be done.
