Why is it after I've left Lekki that a thread like this gets started. The sandflies wouldn't let me be.

I'm in Benin now, but I hit Lekki every once in a while.

Why did they have to kill him?

This is really sad. Ultimately, he would have been killed all the same, but we need to see proper police work.

I'm just tired of this whole situation.

I was just reading the story with complete indifference till I reached the part with the poetry and lyricism.

Kai! Journalists dey lie sha. "Like the dove to the pigeon"? This was definitely made up by a seasoned journalist.

But why all this propaganda at this time? Why all this confusion and lies right now?

During a bloody coup, there's nothing like volunteering to die. Once they come to where you are, so shall you die.

I don't know what this bedtime fantasy story is now supposed to do.

What an intelligent question.

I'm sure you don't know that Lagos just like Delta and Bayelsa is one of the states that generate more revenue that the Federal Government allocates at the end of the day.

Anyway, I'm not here to argue, but please limit your use of curse words.

I've lived in the Lekki/Ajah area for about a decade and the sandfly/blackfly scourge has terribly had a toll on me.

I suspect symptoms of Filariasis, or Leishmaniasis.

I've been on a short dosage of Diethylcarbamazan earlier, but there's hardly any improvement.

Is there a cure?

If we do not want to keep Nigeria the way it is right now, I'll suggest we either bring in all those ethnic groups found in Nigeria but living outside Nigeria back to us so we can have an even border covering all our people.

So rather than joining Benin Republic, I believe they should be the ones joining us, the Northern Benin which are Fulanis will also join their brothers in Sokoto, the Adamaoua in Cameroun can join the Adamawa in Nigeria and the Hausa in Niger Republic can also join their Hausa brothers in Nigeria. We will become a greater Nation bring all components that were shaved off by European colonialists back together.

Otherwise, let everybody go their own way. Every single tribe in Nigeria should form their own nation because obviously, if we can't all live together, then even some can't live together.

Fulani, Ilaje, Auchi, Kanuri, Itsekiri, Tiv, Igbo, Igbira, Efik, Hausa, Calabar, Yoruba, Ijaw, Benin, Urhobo et al, they should have their separate nations. After all, Equatorial Guinea just near us has a population of less than a million and they've not died.

We either stay completely together or totally apart.

Grant the Universities Autonomy now, then privatize them in the nearest future. At the most, by 2020 all universities in Nigeria should be in private hands.

Ah! Sorry people. I've not treated my library on foreign reserves since this economic crises.

Nigeria's is about $40 billion while USA's about $78 billion.

What I was trying to say anyway, was that we could cut down our reserves by $500 million rather than borrow.

How much have our external debts grown to anyway?

Politics › Re: Nigeria Secures Another $500m Loan World Bank! by nex(m): 11:36am On Jul 30, 2009
Their time is coming. Why should we borrow ordinary $500 million from world bank when we have more than $72 billion foreign reserves in various banks all over the world? How are we sure it is not from our $72 billion that World Bank will source the $500 million they want to loan us at a higher interest rate?

Must we borrow? Must we save up unnecessarily large sums as foreign reserves? Even the USA does not have half the foreign reserves of Nigeria. Is it for decoration or prestige? Or so that anybody that want to import all sorts of jargon to Nigeria can be assured that there are adequate reserves of Nigeria worldwide to pay for it.
Politics › Re: Stop The Senseless Killings Now by nex(m): 11:04am On Jul 30, 2009
Muslims in the North are being killed by Soldiers and Police who themselves are mostly muslims from the north. The massive death toll is to act as deterrence so that they don't think there will be any leniency on that kind of matter anymore. I have always advocated that people involved in Religious and Tribal violence should face quick death.

I don't see anything that Southerners should react to. Unless they are the contractors that built the mosques which are being pulled down by the military. Aside from that, I see nothing for us to react to.

@importanti

from the kind of message you've just posted, it is clear that the cheap and free education in our higher institutions needs to be scrapped.

From the way you expressed yourself, it is obvious that while in school, you have not supplemented you lectures with tutorials from the internet and other sources.

You are literate to an extent, but miseducated.

When JAMB results come out and they publish the list of the top performing candidates, what has that got to do with whether someone's parents are rich or poor? When WAEC results come out and you see the top performing students, what sold has the wealth of their parents got to do with it?

So when you apply for a scholarship with 9 distinctions and a JAMB score of 320, they will take it and give to a rich dull kid? How many really rich people did you know applied for scholarship? Please get your head straight. First you people say the children of the rich have gone to school abroad, then next you claim they are the ones getting all the scholarships in our Public Schools. Can't you guys stick to one story?

This idea was not invented by the Federal Government in 2009. It was the AUTONOMY that was sold to the Obasanjo administration by a council of University VCs, led by the Vice Chancellor of the University in about the year 2001 as the only means to save Nigerian universities. The only disagreement the Government had with the schools is that if they were going to be charging so much and deciding how it should be spent, then there should be no need for the Federal Government to be paying staff salaries anymore. That was when they dropped the plan.

Are you saying that the Professors and VCs who came up with this idea, the same Professors who educate you are stupid? If so, then I can understand why you are no different.

Just the way you argue here, there are people arguing that government should make Pilgrimage to Mecca and Jerusalem free by paying ticket fares, accommodation and feeding. I hail thee!

Politics › Re: Yar’adua Could Be Nominated For The Nobel Peace Prize- Imoke by nex(m): 8:55pm On Jul 29, 2009
Nobel Peace Prize?! No. They should also give him Nobel rug.

What is the matter with Liyel? He says the amnesty should not be politicized but he mentioned Nobel Peace prize which is the last tool of resort for Western government to turn any leader into a mumu.

If intimidation doesn't work, bribery doesn't work, promise of aid doesn't work, use of insurgents doesn't work and threat of war doesn't work, it is time to bring the ultimate vanity tickler: the Nobel Prize. Is that not what they promised Gowon that made him allow the civil war linger for longer than necessary?

What has Yar'Adua done for peace in this world? Has ended the war in Sudan?

Absolute rubbish!

Obasanjo that ended more than 3 conflicts in Africa and overturned coups single handedly wasn't even mentioned in Nobel circles.

Even if Yar'Adua is nominated, he should humbly decline by telling them he hasn't done enough to deserve it.

Nobel Peace prize ke? Somebody that just slaughtered 300 Nigerians just this week. Abi because they're not Niger Deltans, It's okay?

Or is it Nobel Peace prize that will raise Nigerians from one dollar per day to 2 dollars? I'm ashamed that a man like Liyel Imoke rather than tackling issues based on reality, is pursuing vanity as the grand solution. Duke would never do that.

Politics › Re: Why Do Nigerians Hate Their Country? by nex(m): 8:03pm On Jul 29, 2009
I love my country O! The condition is really bad in Nigeria. It is bad. But I don't hate Nigeria, It's Nigerians I really despise.

If y'all can just rapture one day and leave me here by myself, in three years time, some of you will beg to be deported from heaven back to Nigeria.

Someone mentioned that if Nigeria goes under, the whole of Africa is finished. If you don't believe that, then you have no idea what happened to Ethiopia.

Why do you think Western nations did so much to help Eritrea break off taking the entire coast of Somalia with it? Why did they forment war there for so many years?

If Nigeria continues in this path of destruction, every other African country will lose hope and just surrender for recolonization by Europeans.

You may notice that a lot of Africans hate Nigerians because they just know that there is something naturally special about us that they don't have. But beneath that, they put a lot of hope for their continent's future on us.

If China should fail, the entire Asian countries will become useless in this world including South Korea and Japan. By the time the USA finally collapses, you will see the Venezuelans cry.

There was a time US intelligence was spurring India to go to war with China, spreading all sorts of negative stories about China only because they knew that was the beacon of hope for the whole of Asia, including the India they were instigating to embroil themselves in a never ending war with China.

When President Obasanjo ceded Bakassi to Cameroun, Nigerians did not know how much wisdom it took to do that. All the Western countries never believed it could ever happen in Africa. They had already piled up all the sophisticated weapons they would ship to Cameroun on one side and the 1930 'shakabula' they were going to sell Nigeria on the other hand.

I pity Nigerians because they don't know whom they are. I'm very sorry for the way you useless your heritage and how you make a mess of my country. I HATE BLACK PEOPLE!

You seem to be from another faction of Boko Haram because the main body has spoken that they want their kids to be educated in a system that they built hundreds of years ago before the British came and tore everything down.

What you fail to understand is that prior to colonization Maiduguri had a higher institution which taught Law, Agriculture, History, Warfare, Philosophy, Psychology, Mathematics, Arabic, Accounting, Sociology and Islam.

The Al Majr system was a mandatory boys scholarship program ensuring that everyone of them was educated. The British came and tore down the structures or turned them to colonial government offices, converted the tax paid by the citizens to common wealth of the British Crown. And turned the scholars into beggars which continues till today. You see an Almajiri today as a little beggar, but the literal translation of the word itself, Al Majr means THE SCHOLAR.

In the name of Osun, the British have destroyed and arranged according to their taste, but now they're gone. We can re-arrange things back to our own taste. The bad things the British threw out, let's keep them out. But the good things they threw out, we can bring them back in. Then the useless things they imposed on us like Military Rule, Centralization of Power, Federalization of Resources, Casualization of Labour, Minimizing of Salaries, Pegging of Exchange Rate, and even this Amalgamation is beginning to look very dubious in the eyes of Nigerians.

If you're so sure MEND does not want us to share our oil with the rest of the country, why should Boko Haram want their people to share their heavenly education with the rest of us?

If you have ever heard of the Touareg Rebels in Niger Republic, you will realize MEND is walking in their footsteps. They are all fighting for their rights.

We go to schools that are acceptable to us, I don't see why we should stop others from attending schools that are acceptable to them.

HOWEVER, NO OIL, NO VIOLENCE! Else 300 more dead.
Politics › Re: Do U Think Yar Adua Is Leading This Country With Bias Against The South? by nex(m): 2:37pm On Jul 29, 2009
No! President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua is definitely not biased against any particular people. His office however greatly overwhelms him. The man is completely lost.

However, I see no difference between MEND and Boko Haram.

MEND is out to regain control of resources which belong to they and their people. The resources are their people's and should be handed back to the people of the Niger Delta for their personal benefit, the good of their children and unborn children.

Boko Haram is out to reinstitute faith based education which focuses on morality, decency, ethics and knowledge.

MEND is not fighting for their resources to be spread to all Nigerians; just their people just like it would have been if the colonilists had not come to centralized our resources under their 'crown' .

Boko Haram is not fighting for their system of education to be spread to all Nigerians; just their people as they had been educated before the colonialists came to secularise their education under their crown.

Some of the tools MEND utilize in reaching their goals include the Expiration of Human life and wanton destruction of property.

Boko Haram applies same as above.

MEND use the name of their people's struggles for personal profiteering.

Boko Haram tried to use the name of their people for personal profiteering, but I really don't think the events of the past couple of days went quite as planned.

MEND is a terrorist group.

Boko Haram is a terrorist group.

I really see no difference between them. In fact, I believe all these terrorist groups in Nigeria will have to one day unite on all fronts to unleash grand terror on the Nigerian Government and people.
