Because of Abiola 3000 people were sharing 1 phone line in Nigeria!

Devil, stab him with that fork again. Yes, add more brimstone and thorns around his head.

He stole money as a contractor, he was not satisfied. He wanted to be the oga, the safekeeper and doorman at the same time so he can pack everything.

Philantropic because he bought votes with rice, salt, tin tomatoes and tinned milk?
Politics › Re: When Will Insults/tribalism End In Nairaland by nex(m): 10:13am On Jul 26, 2009
You people celebrate tribalism, and religious segmentation.

But when you see an armed robber kill, and when you see a tribal or religious fanatic kill, when you check the difference and you look at the passion and sadism. Even the armed robber will join you in crying.

You people should continue.

As for the issue of insults, Seun should make it compulsory for users to have their pictures, phone numbers, email addresses and contact address. I think people have taken this benefit of anonymity too far.

Is this how we insult each other on Facebook?

Then every thread that is centred on tribalism should be thrown into the racism and tribalism section so that those interested in it can go there and continue their hatred and madness.

Even well meaning threads should be thrown into the thrash can once the tribal crusaders take over.
Politics › Re: Fashola Warns Mend by nex(m): 9:54am On Jul 26, 2009
I am very happy that tribal sentimentalism has taken over this thread.

Ikeyman, virtually everything on that your BBC history memo is a lie.

The Moroccans conquered Spain, Portugal and some parts of Italy in about 700 AD. Spain and Portugal were amalgamated to form Al Andalus (Andalucia) which was not freed till about the 1400s. By the Frankish Crusaders under the blessing of the Pope.

After about a century of the roaming around Northern Africa, those muslims expelled from Spain and Portugal started a Jihad which earned them a home and a Caliphate in Sokoto.

Immediately after their liberation, the Spanish and Portuguese having learnt a lot in sailing and warfare from their colonial masters, started sailing around the world aimlessly till they discovered America and then the trans-Atlantic slave trade started.

So please, take anything these Europeans teach their children with a pinch of salt. The Moors and Berbers of Morocco conquered and ruled Italy, Spain and Portugal for approximately 700 years and it took all the militaries of Europe led by the french to finally defeat them. Europeans used to call those 700 years the dark ages. Some say its called the dark ages because they don't remember what happened during that period. Some say its the dark ages because things were really bad. But the truth is that they call them the dark ages because they were ruled by brown skinned people and after the Moroccans left Portugal and Spain, these became the most success countries in Europe till the jealous british declared war on Spain.

Coming to the Yorubas, no one knows where they are from. Even Oduduwa doesn't know where they are from. When the Binis revolted against the Ogiso (people of the sky) dynasty because of their indulgence in human pleasures, the half human son of the ruling Ogiso and when he reached a place where people worshipped him, the Bini tried to lure him back to rule, but he told them Izoduwa (I HAVE CHOSEN A HOME). In Ife that is.

What you should be asking, in case you didn't know is: was Abiola a good man?

When you can answer that, you can answer any questio about Abiola.

Somebody that studied the average Nigerian he'd impoverished so well that he didn't see need to even buy their votes with money. He used FOOD. Milk, Salt and Rice.

Only God can punish Abiola and anybody that is trying to sanctify him. Especially Tinubu.

I hear that the South African government collects a refundable repatriation fee which will cover the cost of finding and deporting you before they even let you enter their country.

If you return within the time stipulated on your visa, you get your money back. Simple.

The Chinese in Nigeria, are they crying out for help? Why should the Nigerians in China crying for help.
Politics › Re: 1 Million March Protest Against Power Failure (phcn) In Nigeria by nex(m): 8:06pm On Jul 25, 2009
This thread is really getting me very depressed.

A lot of people do not know that Peaceful Protest is one of the tools of operating a democracy.

When a Democratic Goverment is swaying from its duties, the first thing the citizens are meant to do is WAIT. The period of waiting is to ensure that the government has enough time to correct its error if at all it was an error. The waiting period is not decades or years, it is weeks. At most a month.

The next step is to gather in FORUMS. Usually, these forums are held by different Unions. Nairaland though is the largest forum in Nigeria. I always excuse Seun for somethings he may say about our democracy because whether he knows it or not, he has created one of the most important tools of democracy. A place where Nigerians can discuss, share views and decide on action to be taken.

A MEMORANDUM or PETITION can then be passed on to lodge a complaint to the government and let them know what the people expect of them in case they don't know what their duties are.

When nothing is done about the petition, then the citizens call on their parliamentarians through the heads of their Unions to inform that they should embark on IMPEACHMENT of the Executive or RECALL of a Legislator depending on the erring official in question.

When still, nothing is done, then PEACEFUL PROTESTS or RALLIES are held to express how Serious and how Massive the movement against the situation is.

If still nothing is done within a couple of months after the MARCH then we're left with no other option but the REVOLUTION and CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT.

A lot of Nigerians scream that we need a revolution, but they do not know how a revolution comes about. You don't just wake up from nothing to a revolution. You have to fulfil all righteousness.

For those that will do nothing to gain their rights and freedoms, please do nothing. However, what gets me totally out of my mind is when I'm fighting for the benefit of all and some are trying to mock me.

I'll be there. I'm already a member of Light Up Nigeria on facebook, but I feel we should have a way of identifying one another, maybe by wearing the same kind of T-shirt or something so we can easily identify thugs and touts that may want to come amongst us and turn this thing into a riot or looting spree that will bring the police in and cause violent crowd dispersal. You know NPF now.

I think that's very important.

Finally, a man that knows his job. I don't know him personally, but he's the second Nigerian policeman alive who's ever given his email address to the public and actually replied my complaint.

All the same, I see no reason why this should be commended. He's the highest ranking officer and It's only due that he takes the position. Should we also commend Yar'Adua for wearing his clothes before he comes out in public? People get commended for going out of their way to do the undoable.

Politics › Re: Reps Kill Motion To Immortalise M. K. O. Abiola by nex(m): 10:32pm On Jul 23, 2009
I believe Abiola is already adequately immortalized.

When you see Glo or MTN workers digging trenches to bury telecoms cables all over the country, you can't help but remember abiola and how he destroy our right to communicate for decades. Thank God he died before GSM came, if not, he would have taught MTN, ECONET and GLO how to rip us off to fatten his agbada.

How much more obviously can we immortalize Abiola? Why can't we immortalize Babangida who prevented that International Thief Thief from taking total country of this entire country and selling us off to the highest bidder?

Immortalize my brown butt! Instead of looking for how to overkill him. (literally).

Car Talk › Re: Jerking When Trying To Accelerate My 1998 Honda Accord by nex(m): 6:52pm On Jul 21, 2009
I don't even know how to drive, but unluckily for me, a friend had this problem with his car and after all the mechanics from Lagos had been invited to Benin and after Alliance Autos in VI had cashed N1.2 million from us, we had to do it ourselves. We downloaded the service manual then proceeded to work.

There are two possibilities, if not both together. The Mass Airflow Sensor (MAS), or the Exhaust Gas Recirculation sensor or valve (EGR sensor or EGR valve).

We blocked of the EGR pipe from the throttle body using a thin metal plate.

Then we changed the MAS.

Car accelerates like It's on steroids now. In fact, reading about blocking the EGR pipe, one mad mechanic based in the US let us know that blocking the EGR pipe gives it more power and more fuel efficiency than the first day the car was bought brand new.

A lot of mechanics using the diagnostic equipment don't even know how to translate the codes. The last idiot that came translated "DTC" as Damaged Throttle, Change. Meanwhile when we check our Service/Workshop Manual, it really meant Diagnostic Trouble Code, and had no meaning till you add the figures after it. So be careful the kind of mechanic you hand your car to, even when he's carrying a computer.

These trial and error mechanics will make you change everything in the car. We changed virtually all the sensors, we changed filters, changed plugs several times, we even changed the brainbox. However, when we were asked to change the brainbox again, the throttle body and even totally change the engine and convert it to a Camry 2.2 engine, we began to realise we weren't the ones that were mad.

Well goodluck with the EGR and MAS. Be stern with your mechanic. Let him know you know.

Politics › Re: Why Is The Federal Govt Killing Tinapa? by nex(m): 5:56pm On Jul 21, 2009
My people perish for lack of knowledge. Ignorance is what is killing the Tinapa project, not customs officials or the Federal Government.

Tinapa is an Export Processing Zone (EPZ). The words when looked into properly will let you know what it means. The type of free trade that takes place there is one which will facilitate processing of export goods:

1. No import duty on raw materials entering the zone which are to be used for manufacturing goods for export.

2. No export duty on the goods manufactured in the zone which are meant to be exported to other countries.

3. That's all.

Most of the goods you buy cheap in Dubai are either manufactured or assembled in Dubai. They are cheap because they were not taxed. There are also goods that are imported as finished products to Dubai, these are very expensive.

When you create a free trade zone, it is for importation of raw materials and exportation of finished goods. Manufacturing jobs are created, there's technology transfer and the economy grows.

The worst thing any human being can do is to bring in finished or semi finished goods tax free into a free trade zone and sell them to consumers in the country in that form. Where are the jobs created, where is the technology transferred, how has the economy gained. Doing that is nothing short of broad daylight smuggling.

When you set up an institution, it is assumed that you know the principles guiding what you are doing, so when you err, the agencies should not be the ones teaching you your job, they are there to enforce the law.

Tinapa was going quite well under Donald Duke, I suggest Mr Imoke goes to Duke for a full explanation of what the FTZ is aimed at achieving.

You cannot acquire a GSM licence and tax exemption for 5 years, then you begin to broadcast television signals. The government will shut you down.

I am from the Niger Delta, and when I hear about how the Central Government marginalizes us, I laugh because it is our ignorance that marginalizes us.
Politics › Re: Mend (Jomo Gbomo) Speaks About Atlas Cove by nex(m): 5:14pm On Jul 21, 2009
I don't blame these people. It is because Fashola did not bomb Bayelsa state back. They forget that in practising the true federalism they are fighting for, a state has the right to defend itself against foreign enemies and to Lagos state, we Niger Deltans are foreigners.

Look at the rubbish that pork brained terrorist is spewing with confidence. Let them go and bomb an installation in Sokoto state and see what will happen to them. The bloody cowards keep punishing our own people and the friends and supporters of our people yet they claim to be freedom fighters. Whose freedom? The only people that are free from of being kidnapped, free to live their daily lives without fear of being bombed or contaminated with chemicals from bombed pipeline, free from rampaging cultists killing in the streets and drawing danger to their lives are still the people of the North.

If they claim that the plan of the North is to oppress and deprive us, then I see no reason why the Caliphate should not rest now because MEND is carrying on where they left off.

How many times have the Hausas agitated against Southerner and gone to start bombing the Fulani in Sokoto or the Kanuris in Maiduguri?

My greatest fears have been confirmed. We are mad!

Politics › Re: N180,000 Tuition Fees For Nigerian Universities by nex(m): 4:19pm On Jul 21, 2009
Everybody distrusts the government, in Sweden, in the USA, in Iran and in Nigeria.

Look at the demands ASUU and SSANU are making. They want only 60% autonomy, so they can control everything about the school, but the remaining 40% which is revenue generation should be for government. Is there anything like partial autonomy? It will only be compared to dictatorial democracy.

The same very thing happens in NTA where they generate billions of Naira annually, share the money, vandalize government property, throw lavish bonuses and allowances on each other and finally go to the Federal Government to collect salaries when they don't remit a dime of revenue.

An additional demand is that they want to keep lecturing even at 67, 68, 69 and 70 years of age. If Obasanjo want to exceed his tenure, we'll complain just because he's a government official, yet professors want to exceed their retirement age and everyone is showing support. At an age where we're asking all sectors of the country including the government to be rid of the old so that the new can come in, we are watching these old men continue to perpetuate themselves till death. If they take an extra 10 years on their jobs, those unemployed youths waitin to get employment would have to wait another 10 years for professors to retire, for lecturers to be promoted and for there to be vacancies for them.

They want 100% salary increase. Okay, like all of a sudden there was 100% revenue increase for the nation. This is the most pressing reason why the Federal Government is trying to institute total autonomy.

When the private universities came, a lot of us laughed at them, but they're generating revenue, paying their lecturers and building their facilities.

gbubs said that government has no business running educational institutions, but really government has no business even in providing electricity, selling subsidized fuel, selling food or paying rent.

People should know the meaning of the word GOVERN.
Politics › Re: N180,000 Tuition Fees For Nigerian Universities by nex(m):
People want to call Sweden and the USA when talking about economic policies.

In 1999 I was meant to school in UCLA till I totalled the cost of my course and it was $20,000 per session or thereabout. That is not the most expensive school in the USA, but it will let you understand what I'm talking about. So I finally went to UNIBEN where my school fees as at that same 1999 was $10 (N1200) in fact, when I was paying my first school fees at the New Nigerian Bank on campus, I met a 300 level student and she had to ask me to help her spell THOUSAND.

I know a graduate from the AAU and she uses her second class upper honours LLB which Nigeria paid for to raise kids, cook meals and attend parties.

Let's go back to Sweden and the USA. Sweden has a Personal Income Tax of more than 50%. The USA produces 3 times more crude oil than Nigeria and the taxation is much higher than Nigeria's still, but unlike Nigeria, you could spend good time in jail for not paying your tax to the cent. Ask Wesley Snipes.

California has a GDP higher than most countries in the world and about ten times the GDP of Nigeria yet it's this same place that UCLA is and they are charging their citizens good money for education. In fact, as we speak, the state of California is totally broke! Schwarzenneger didn't steal the money. The state cost trillions of dollars to run even where education is not free.

I once told an American that my tuition was $10 and he wished he could school in Nigeria because his tuition was about $8000, but I pitied him not because of the cost he incurs, but because he wanted to come to a school where I was more versed in the courses than 80% of my lecturers.

The issue of University Autonomy started in UNIBEN, introduced by Prof. A R Anao he sold it to the government and they accepted, yet same man turned around and rejected his own plan afterwards because he wanted to raised tuition, but also wants FG to pay salaries.

With autonomy comes the solution.

The only person that has made rel sense here is A-town. Do you people even know the reasons and basis for free tuition in Nigeria? Is it for ou to graduate, marry and sit in your husban's house or travel abroad and use our government funded education to serve another country. Tuition is expensive anywhere in the world. iu see no reason why Nigeria should 'do' father christmas with education and get nothing in return.

we can't sponsor cultists and prostitutes to college just to tuck a certificate somewhere, using our university system as a medium to just grow up. It should all end. Scholarships are there for those that have that much intelligence but cannot afford 180K per session. There are millions of candidates applying for university admission everyday of which only a couple hundred thousands can be admitted. Price will sift the wheat from the shaft and the others will seek and acquire scholaships. What happened to y'all sense of a free economy? So when it favours you it's aye and when it doesn't it's nay? Please be real.

Gbaramatu Youths will collapse in a few weeks - Nigerian Economists.

World economy has completely melted down months ago, is it today Nigerian economy will collapse? Then what has the economy been doing in the past 2 decades? So they felt that the economy has been robust since and it may now collapse in a few weeks. I will love to see that. Economy wey don die since and una dey inside, una no know, na now una dey predict say e wan collapse because hand touch una.

Trained graduate of medicine is working in a Commercial Bank and nobody realised that the whole country has collapsed a long time ago. For over 2 decades now, Nigeria has been surviving on 200,000 barrels per day. Yes. I didn't say 2 million. 200,000 barrels per day! All the extra money from the remaining 1.8 million barrels per day was what went into Ghana must go sacks, brown envelopes (or in our case, cartons), and Peugeot 504 boots. That extra money was what built VGC castles, bought private jets and Hilltop Villas. Acquired live airtime for celebrations and sponsored political rallies. That was the 1.8 million barrels O!

So generally, I care less if 30,000 barrels per day is made to flow into the creeks by MEND, as long as they don't call on any one else to clean up the mess or shout out pollution against the multinationals.

Now we'll manage money the way it should be. Abi did you actually believe that Nigeria was really gaining about $73 billion annually in 2007 from crude oil alone? How come to sign budget of N3 trillion ($24 billion) dey make dem sweat?

At least if we know that we have actually just $3.5 billion annually coming from only 200,000 barrels per day, the masses will bite anyone who tries to even look at that money too lustfully.

To my brothers in MEND, please carry on and as the 13% extra winds down to nothing in total, let's see who will suffer.

Lagosians, pay you taxes and earn those non-oil dollars. Since some have printed Passport others will soon require Visa.

@Jakumo

Thanks man, It's not my doing. I'm just lucky to know that dictator Buhari in toto. A man who would not hesitate to order a Korofo to kneel my 80 year old mother and whip her to a point of unconscious just for collecting change from the bus conductor with the wrong hand.

A man who opened up the avenue through which the horde of military dictators like him plied through to ravage Nigeria into this wasteland it is today.

Is it our fault that during his regime it was actually Idiagbon that ruled. In fact, that would go to show he has no past record which he so boasts of.

The fact that during his first military jamboree, Idiagbon only allowed him enough money to build a 3 bedroom apartment even scares me the more. It only goes to tell you how much more Buhari believes the Nigerian Treasury owes him.

O God! A man who is the main cause of our sufferings today is touting himself still as the cure. He wants to seize Bakassi from Cameroun and go to war. He wants to mobilise battalions from Jos to chase Chadian Touareg rebels to Niamey. We can as well vote George Bush!

Muhammadu Buhari should take his pen with which he was to rebuild the Al Majiri system of Education, and shove it between his lean cheeks. The ones in his trousers I mean.

So ASUU is on strike, therefore Atiku and Buhari want a government that will prioritise education. When NURTW goes on strike, they will call theirs a government that will prioritise transport. Then prostitutes will go on strike one day and they'll talk of how their government will lay emphasis on sex.

We know them. I can only overlook a person who rapes another human being when I'm looking at a person that has raped an entire nation of 150 million citizens.
Politics › Re: Buhari To Float New Party by nex(m): 1:08pm On Jul 12, 2009
He should name the party War Against Indiscipline (WAI). And their insignia should be a triple-mouthed koboko, each mouth facing the 3 different regions of Nigeria and the length defining the amount of torture the people thereof would have to endure to become reformed.

The colours of their flag should be just green and white like he earlier suggested (those are the colours of Islam). Then a white crescent to clearly symbolise sharia which he intends to institute all over Nigeria.

Lest I forget, there should be a silver coloured ironhand gripping the koboko.

Then all his followers MUST have open-teeth. Even if It's not natural, they should file it through just to show their loyalty.

His policy should include merging Nigeria with Niger to form the United Niger Empire. Of course Buhari should not forget to go on BBC Hardtalk to announce this new party, where he will be humiliated back to the real world like the last time he went there.
