Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) has stated its position on the quest for Igbo presidency in 2023.

OYC said after the coronavirus crisis is over, it will commence a persuasive approach and aggressive consultative negotiations.


The body listed those to be engaged as President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, Atiku.

A statement on Friday by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, OYC President and Okwu Nnabuike, the Secretary, on Friday, warned power brokers, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other stakeholders of the grave consequences of leadership imposition on Nigerians.

It reminded of the need to respect “the gentleman’s agreement of rotational presidency between the North and South,


The socio-cultural group said though the agreement is unwritten but must be respected for the future and sustainable peace”.

OYC described Nigeria as a nation threatened by the personal gains of a few political leaders against the collective interests of the people.

“Any attempt to ambush Igbos legitimate political interests to produce a President either from South/South or Southeast in 2023, will strengthen the agitation of self-determination across the country.


“Oduduwa and Biafra referendum and independence will gather international recognition and make the future of Nigeria bleak.”

The statement admitted that every Nigerian has the right to ascribe for the highest office in the land, but posited that collective interest supersedes the individual quests.

OYC disclosed that it would approach former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, to lead the search for a unified Igbo presidential candidate ahead of the next general elections.

“God has kept General Yakubu Gowon alive for the singular reason to cement the unity of Nigeria by facilitating the emergence of a Nigerian president of the Igbo stock in 2023, 50 years after the Biafra War ended”, it added.

The Champlain College Board of Trustees on Tuesday announced Benjamin Ola. Akande as the ninth President of Champlain College. Mr Akande will assume the role effective July 1, 2020.

Laurie Quinn, Champlain’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academics, has been serving as Interim President since July 1, 2019.

“Dr Akande is an agent of change and a visionary leader with a global perspective. His enterprising mindset and commitment to student success will be essential as he leads Champlain College in an evolving higher education landscape. We look forward to welcoming Dr Akande to Champlain and supporting his work to advance the College’s strategic position and build on the strength of our distinctive academic offerings,” said Champlain College Board of Trustees Chair, Charles Kittredge.

Mr Akande currently serves as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Affairs-Africa and the Associate Director of the Global Health Centre at Washington University in St. Louis.

Named one of the city’s “Most Influential Leaders” by the St. Louis Business Journal, Mr Akande is an accomplished economist and scholar educator, as well as a recognized civic and business leader. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Oklahoma and served as a tenured Professor of Economics and Dean of the George Herbert Walker School of Business and Technology at Webster University in St. Louis from 2000–2015. As Dean, Dr Akande was instrumental in securing the $10 million naming gift, the largest in the institution’s history.

As the 21st President of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri from 2015–2017, Dr Akande strengthened the college’s infrastructure and financial sustainability, transformed academic offerings and reimagined marketing and communication strategies to build the college’s brand identity.

“I am humbled and honoured by the opportunity to lead Champlain College during this period of great transformation and even greater opportunity. While the challenges we currently face as global citizens are daunting, they also sharpen our focus and urge us both individually and as a community, to lead from wherever we are,” said Dr Akande. “The commitment to educating adaptable thinkers, daring change-makers and inclusive innovators who shape professions and inspire communities is what sets Champlain College apart. The selection of Dr Akande was the result of an extensive national search conducted by a broadly representative search committee comprised of students, faculty, staff, Trustees, and a local community member. Neale Lunderville, Trustee and Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, shared, “I want to offer my sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to each of our committee members. Explain what you mean by alliance with the north? Did the Igbos form same party with the north? It’s on record that the east have always contested independently against other region.

In 1960 we practiced parliamentary system of government as done in the UK. The NCNC has the highest number of votes while the NPC has the highest number of seats. This ignited the constitutional process for a coalition. That’s was why we had a joint government of the NPC/NCNC.
Now, while the NPC produced the Prime Minister, the NCNC produced the President. So where did the east aligned with the north?

I’ve heard some funny talks about Awolowo visiting Azikiwe for a joint coalition? How can that be possible when the ball was in the court of NPC who won the majority seats. If really Awolowo had such intentions he would have convinced Zik earlier before the 1958 election to form a mega party with the AG where both would go into the elections under one party. For instance a Southern People’s Party as the merger. In this case Zik would have become the leader of the party while Awo emerges the Prime minister or the other way round. But such never happened, because of the cross carpeting of the NCNC stalwarts to the AG in the western region. And Zik never trusted Awo ever since that incident.

Second in the 1979 elections the Igbos stood with Azikiwe’s NPP, the same way the west stood with Awolowo’s UPN. The NPP won the Imo, Anambra, Plateau and Borno states but lost Rivers and Cross Rivers to NPN. Awolowo’s UPN won Bendel state.

Shagari’s NPN got their redemption in states such as Rivers and Cross Rivers who has some form of Igbophobia post civil war and voted the north enmass. It was from this victory that the NPN compensated Chief Joseph Wayas from Ogoja with the Senate Presidency. So tell me, where was the so called alliance with the north.

Even Azikiwe’s NPP got a higher number of votes than Awolowo’s UPN in 1979 and by virtue of that produced the Speaker of the house. Again how did the Igbos align with the north. The first time the Igbos truly aligned with the north per say was in 1993 with NRC Tofa. And even that alliance is disputed because of how Abiola got a large chunk of votes in Igbo states.

No sentiments here just facts. Awolowo also did all the horse-trading in the world, including killing and insulting Ndigbo just so he can be in the good books of the North, he failed severally at the national level.

That Tinubu emptied his treasury to grease the palms of 306 house of reps members to elect Gbaja cannot be replicated at the national level. Alumajiris will collect your 'kaffir' money and still vote their own, the East will also collect your money and stick to their electoral belief.

Do not be too confident, amala politics starts and end in your enclave.

it all boils down to what I have been saying on this thread. I am not arguing about Tinubu's sagacity in the west. Before you term somebody greatest in Nigerian politics, the person should have follower ship in at least two thirds of the country not only your region. He doesn't control the hausa fulani, he doesn't control Igbos neither does he control Niger deltans so what's all the fuse about being greatest.

Tinubu had no choice than to collapse his structures with Aketi because he can't work against APC as he has already lost at the primaries. He is a good politician because to him the party comes first and he is not a vindictive politician. In politics, u can never win all. Some would rather sponsor a candidate from another party.
For mimiko, he became powerless after pdp lost at the centre and at the same time pdp had two factions, his annointed candidate and sheriff's candidate Jim oh Ibrahim. A divided house can never stand as we have seen this period as APC lost many states due to internal factions.
Giving Tinubu the commissioners slots does not mean that Tinubu contributed even 50% to his emergence.Sometimes things are done for peace to reign.

Wait oo… Out of the 36 states, how many of them does Tinubu have a say. If I can remember even in the SW he has no influence in Ekiti, Ondo and OYO. Then how do those illiterates just wake up and begin to give him and imaginary crown that doesnt even exist.

When will this dingbats realise that the Northern cabals used tinubu like a sanitary pad. This Northern Oligach has taken full controy and if Tinubu dare mess up will be dealt with.

How long will the SW stop living in dream land and realise that their 2023 ambition has a dark hope. How can a large group of people chose to be naive? The last time I check most Tinubu appointee has been booted from their job, e.g the guy in FIRS and others.

And lastly I will like to remind my SW brothers that politically they have made a grave mistake burning their southern bridge. Now if eventually a SW man pick the APC ticket in 2023 how can a win a divided north with and opposing south? How? How?
