I used to think not all mods get paid and it's a free service. Check around and ask

I'm also aware Nairaland is highly ranked on Search engines index and uses this as an advantage to attract adverts which people make payments for

This is inspite of operational costs like very expensive AWS cloud hosting services

I'm also a tech guru and these things are more a matter of nonchalance over expenses Sir
The emboldened is not true. Contrary to the above, there's an upward shift in the networth, patronage and number of users.

On whether they get paid or not, they do.

The organisation can't overstretch its budget just to massage the ego of some individuals.

What is happening on nairaland in terms of intelligent discourse is not different from twitter and Facebook.

On a trending topic on Twitter, always go through and count the number of intelligent contributions. They're mostly filled with unnecessary adverts and insults in the name of being savage. Don't let me even mention facebook, to these guys, as long as they keep smiling to the banks, they are cool. The end justifies the best approach afterall.

If he increases the Mods per section from two to five, he will have more hands. There are millions of idle people who would be willing to take the job. With proactive botnets and increased human administrators this can be resolved in just a week.

First, anyone who abuses gets a banned instantly without fear of favors

Anyone who disses a tribe, whatever tribe it is gets a ban

Anyone who gets intellectually beaten hands down and calls another a scam because of the issue gets a ban. All accusations of calling people names like scam without substantial evidence gets a six months ban

If there is no goal shifting, sanity will be restored while putting these to action.
Your suggestions are very valid but would increase the overhead of the company. Profit first I think?

If only an holistic enquiry could be launched to ascertain the veracity of these claims, most often, mods act according to the rules of the forum but as humans who detest rules and orderliness, we cry foul where there is none. Deep inside, we know what we're doing.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Biased Moderators by Nexus25(f): 10:48am On May 05, 2020
Without iron hands, what is left of nairaland would be trashed into the dustbin of history. Apart from tribal innuendos in politics section where I frequent, mods have lately upped their games. The job could be frustrating when acclaimed intelligent people on nairaland will be wittingly and cleverly throwing tribal tantrums.

Forum members have their own responsibility as well. We put all the blames on the mods forgetting we are the architect of the whole thing.

Sadly, whe mods act to protect the sanity of the forum, different threads like this will be springing up to either bash or blackmail the mods.

Dear Moderator,

Do all that is necessary to protect the forum, don't listen to blackmailers. Do your work but honest feedback should be clinically reviewed.

This is the right thing to do. They should beg Tinubu and Obasanjo. That way, they move closer to achieving the lofty dream
Politics2023: Ohanaeze To Meet Buhari, Obasanjo, Atiku, Tinubu Over Igbo Presidency by Nexus25(op): 6:51am On May 02, 2020
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) has stated its position on the quest for Igbo presidency in 2023.

OYC said after the coronavirus crisis is over, it will commence a persuasive approach and aggressive consultative negotiations.

The body listed those to be engaged as President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, Atiku.

A statement on Friday by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, OYC President and Okwu Nnabuike, the Secretary, on Friday, warned power brokers, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other stakeholders of the grave consequences of leadership imposition on Nigerians.

It reminded of the need to respect “the gentleman’s agreement of rotational presidency between the North and South,

The socio-cultural group said though the agreement is unwritten but must be respected for the future and sustainable peace”.

OYC described Nigeria as a nation threatened by the personal gains of a few political leaders against the collective interests of the people.

“Any attempt to ambush Igbos legitimate political interests to produce a President either from South/South or Southeast in 2023, will strengthen the agitation of self-determination across the country.

“Oduduwa and Biafra referendum and independence will gather international recognition and make the future of Nigeria bleak.”

The statement admitted that every Nigerian has the right to ascribe for the highest office in the land, but posited that collective interest supersedes the individual quests.

OYC disclosed that it would approach former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, to lead the search for a unified Igbo presidential candidate ahead of the next general elections.

“God has kept General Yakubu Gowon alive for the singular reason to cement the unity of Nigeria by facilitating the emergence of a Nigerian president of the Igbo stock in 2023, 50 years after the Biafra War ended”, it added.

I lost my mother to cancer this year January. She was loving and caring. She was accommodating and could allow just anything to pass.

I kept crying when she was on admission, on several occasions, I couldn't stay for long in the ward because the pain she was passing through was unbearable.

It was an advanced case of pancreatic cancer and I had already knew only God could save her. But she kept asking me if she would not die? Answering such a question was a big burden. I couldn't lie yet I couldn't tell her the truth.

Four days before she died, she wasn't eating and she wasn't talking to anyone. She wasn't even feeling the cancer pain.

Her thought flashes my mind every day.

I love you Momma.

EducationBenjamin Ola. Akande Appointed As President Of Champlain College In America by Nexus25(op): 4:50pm On Apr 21, 2020
The Champlain College Board of Trustees on Tuesday announced Benjamin Ola. Akande as the ninth President of Champlain College. Mr Akande will assume the role effective July 1, 2020.

Laurie Quinn, Champlain’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academics, has been serving as Interim President since July 1, 2019.

“Dr Akande is an agent of change and a visionary leader with a global perspective. His enterprising mindset and commitment to student success will be essential as he leads Champlain College in an evolving higher education landscape. We look forward to welcoming Dr Akande to Champlain and supporting his work to advance the College’s strategic position and build on the strength of our distinctive academic offerings,” said Champlain College Board of Trustees Chair, Charles Kittredge.

Mr Akande currently serves as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Affairs-Africa and the Associate Director of the Global Health Centre at Washington University in St. Louis.

Named one of the city’s “Most Influential Leaders” by the St. Louis Business Journal, Mr Akande is an accomplished economist and scholar educator, as well as a recognized civic and business leader. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Oklahoma and served as a tenured Professor of Economics and Dean of the George Herbert Walker School of Business and Technology at Webster University in St. Louis from 2000–2015. As Dean, Dr Akande was instrumental in securing the $10 million naming gift, the largest in the institution’s history.

As the 21st President of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri from 2015–2017, Dr Akande strengthened the college’s infrastructure and financial sustainability, transformed academic offerings and reimagined marketing and communication strategies to build the college’s brand identity.

“I am humbled and honoured by the opportunity to lead Champlain College during this period of great transformation and even greater opportunity. While the challenges we currently face as global citizens are daunting, they also sharpen our focus and urge us both individually and as a community, to lead from wherever we are,” said Dr Akande. “The commitment to educating adaptable thinkers, daring change-makers and inclusive innovators who shape professions and inspire communities is what sets Champlain College apart. I look forward to taking this journey with you and thank you for the trust you have placed in me to further Champlain College’s mission together.”

The selection of Dr Akande was the result of an extensive national search conducted by a broadly representative search committee comprised of students, faculty, staff, Trustees, and a local community member. The committee was supported by Koya Leadership Partners, an executive search firm specializing in mission-driven organizations. Neale Lunderville, Trustee and Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, shared, “I want to offer my sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to each of our committee members. Their extraordinary efforts over the past many months produced a strong result: Dr Akande will be an exceptional President for our exceptional College.”

The Board of Trustees and Champlain community are deeply grateful to Dr Laurie Quinn for her service as Interim President. Dr Quinn will return to her role as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academics at the conclusion of her term on June 30, 2020.

Dr Quinn shared, “It’s my honour to congratulate and warmly welcome Dr Akande to lead the Champlain community as our next President. Complex times test great leaders, and we are fortunate to be a strong community with a great new leader transitioning in at this time. I’ll be proud to serve on Dr Akande’s team and to chart Champlain’s future together.”

Born in Nigeria, Dr Akande came to the United States at the age of 17 to pursue a college degree. His parents, Samuel and Comfort Ola. Akande, held a deep respect for and belief in the value of the American higher education system that they instilled in their children.

This respect serves as an inspiration to Dr Akande, whose professional success is motivated by the power of education to change lives. Dr Akande and his wife, Bola Taiwo-Akande, a pharmacist and entrepreneur, will relocate to Burlington this summer. They have three adult daughters.

When he received his first salary, I knew but he lied they never paid him. It's more than a year already, the money I borrowed him, he has refused to pay. He instead bought a big car.

I had my wedding ceremony February this year. I sent my account number to him because of the money he's owing me, he didn't reply my message and never attended my wedding.

PoliticsRe: The Igbos And Yorubas Should Live With This Truth: by Nexus25(f): 7:51pm On Apr 09, 2020
UdechiHD:
Explain what you mean by alliance with the north? Did the Igbos form same party with the north? It’s on record that the east have always contested independently against other region.

In 1960 we practiced parliamentary system of government as done in the UK. The NCNC has the highest number of votes while the NPC has the highest number of seats. This ignited the constitutional process for a coalition. That’s was why we had a joint government of the NPC/NCNC.
Now, while the NPC produced the Prime Minister, the NCNC produced the President. So where did the east aligned with the north?

I’ve heard some funny talks about Awolowo visiting Azikiwe for a joint coalition? How can that be possible when the ball was in the court of NPC who won the majority seats. If really Awolowo had such intentions he would have convinced Zik earlier before the 1958 election to form a mega party with the AG where both would go into the elections under one party. For instance a Southern People’s Party as the merger. In this case Zik would have become the leader of the party while Awo emerges the Prime minister or the other way round. But such never happened, because of the cross carpeting of the NCNC stalwarts to the AG in the western region. And Zik never trusted Awo ever since that incident.

Second in the 1979 elections the Igbos stood with Azikiwe’s NPP, the same way the west stood with Awolowo’s UPN. The NPP won the Imo, Anambra, Plateau and Borno states but lost Rivers and Cross Rivers to NPN. Awolowo’s UPN won Bendel state.

Shagari’s NPN got their redemption in states such as Rivers and Cross Rivers who has some form of Igbophobia post civil war and voted the north enmass. It was from this victory that the NPN compensated Chief Joseph Wayas from Ogoja with the Senate Presidency. So tell me, where was the so called alliance with the north.

Even Azikiwe’s NPP got a higher number of votes than Awolowo’s UPN in 1979 and by virtue of that produced the Speaker of the house. Again how did the Igbos align with the north. The first time the Igbos truly aligned with the north per say was in 1993 with NRC Tofa. And even that alliance is disputed because of how Abiola got a large chunk of votes in Igbo states.
Enugu 284,050, 263,101 won by Tofa

Abia 151,227, 105,273 won by Tofa

Imo 195,836, 159,350 won by Tofa

Anambra 159,258, 212,024

The election of a Northerner against a Southerner, above is the result from the brothers down south.

What a solidarity, a unity. A group demanding for the support of those they have betrayed on several occasions

it all boils down to what I have been saying on this thread. I am not arguing about Tinubu's sagacity in the west. Before you term somebody greatest in Nigerian politics, the person should have follower ship in at least two thirds of the country not only your region. He doesn't control the hausa fulani, he doesn't control Igbos neither does he control Niger deltans so what's all the fuse about being greatest.
You are wrong, Edo is not west but he was instrumental to the emergence of Oshiomole.

Kogi is not west but he handpicked his boy(Faleke) from Lagos to deputise the late Audu

Kwara is not west but he used his otoge media creation to sweep the "Almighty " Saraki away from Kwara.

Bayelsa is not west but the sacked governor paid him homage the second day he was declared winner.

I just highlighted few of the instances, I could go on and on.

The real political players in Nigeria know his worth.

You think if was by mouth Buhari conceded to all Tinubu's request in the last election?

Tinubu had no choice than to collapse his structures with Aketi because he can't work against APC as he has already lost at the primaries. He is a good politician because to him the party comes first and he is not a vindictive politician. In politics, u can never win all. Some would rather sponsor a candidate from another party.
For mimiko, he became powerless after pdp lost at the centre and at the same time pdp had two factions, his annointed candidate and sheriff's candidate Jim oh Ibrahim. A divided house can never stand as we have seen this period as APC lost many states due to internal factions.
Giving Tinubu the commissioners slots does not mean that Tinubu contributed even 50% to his emergence.Sometimes things are done for peace to reign.
Tinubu singlehandedly nominated the second and fourth citizens in the country.

Being the greatest is debatable but as the most strategic, advanced and sophisticated politician, no individual comes close in this republic

Yes, election didn't end at the primary as alluded to in your earlier post. Mimiko was a political giant in the state, those of us in APC feared him. Tinubu collapsed his structure for Akeredolu to win the election.

Are you aware Akeredolu sacked about 5 of his commissioners nominated by Tinubu because of the fear of the next election? If Tinubu didn't contribute to his victory, would he had given Tinubu any slot?

Akeredolu has been parading Bourdillion since the beginning of this year trying to curry Tinubu's favour. You ask to what ends If BAT doesn't wield a significant influence?

When will this dingbats realise that the Northern cabals used tinubu like a sanitary pad. This Northern Oligach has taken full controy and if Tinubu dare mess up will be dealt with.

How long will the SW stop living in dream land and realise that their 2023 ambition has a dark hope. How can a large group of people chose to be naive? The last time I check most Tinubu appointee has been booted from their job, e.g the guy in FIRS and others.

And lastly I will like to remind my SW brothers that politically they have made a grave mistake burning their southern bridge. Now if eventually a SW man pick the APC ticket in 2023 how can a win a divided north with and opposing south? How? How? How? .this are the question to be ask instead jumping around shouting Tinubu is the greatest bla bla. Let me also add this picture of who the SW is calling their messiah
Southern bridge never existed.

Awolowo lost in most Igbo states when he contested

Igbos didn't vote Abiola, instead, majority of their votes went to Tofa.

Again, Yorubas tried their luck in 1999 again by favouring Olu Falae, they didn't vote him but supported a northern candidate in Obj.

If on those three important occasions, your brothers didn't think of southern unity, why are you thinking about it now?

Yorubas were betrayed on those three occasions by their imaginary southern brothers.

So far as Borno state politics is concerned, Tinubu is nobody there, the real godfather there is Ali Modu Sheriff. For Ondo case, pdp was already in tatters and it was obvious APC was going to win regardless of who emerges winner in the primaries. The real battle was in the primaries where Oyegun worked against Tinubu's interest that led to the emergence of Aketi. It was so obvious that APC would win that Mimiko has to agree to work for APC so that he would be given a soft landing and not be probed. Even if there was Tinubu's impact, it was almost insignificant considering the situation of things then.
About ondo state primary election, Tinubu had a very massive influence. He only overplayed himself. Too much smartness kills atimes. From Tinubu's camp alone, three leading candidates contested. Tinubu personally bankrolled Segun Abraham, he funded Borrofice's campaign through his wife(Remi Tinubu). Then Sola Oke was supported by Aregbesola on the instruction of Tinubu. Aketi narrowly won Segun Abraham with 11 votes then Oke and Borrofice with less than 100votes each. Tinubu's camp had more than 65% of the total votes from that election.

Why they didn't support a candidate remains one of the greatest Tinubu's political mistake. This he said without mincing words

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri – Abuja

ABUJA– Barely three hours after it adjourned proceedings for the day, the Court of Appeal in Abuja, has notified parties that it would hear the appeal challenging the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, by 4pm today.

The court had earlier on Monday, said it would hear the two separate appeals marked CA/A/187/2020 and CA/A/188/2020, at a date that would be communicated to all the parties.

A three-man panel of Justices of the court led by Justice Stephen Adah, had after they concluded hearing on other appeals on the cause list, told Oshiomhole’s legal team that another panel would return to hear his case.

However, about five minutes after the Justice Adah-led panel retired to their chambers, a clerk of the appellate court came back and informed all the parties that they would be notified of the new hearing date.

Meanwhile, a member of Oshiomhole’s legal team, told Vanguard that the appellate court subsequently made a U-turn and summoned all the parties to return by 4pm for the appeal to be heard.

Oshiomhole had in his four grounds of appeal, applied for an order to set-aside the interim injunction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory that suspended him from office on March 4.

Akeredolu didn't even score up to 35% of the total votes in the primary election, he couldn't have been the choice of everyone. Tinubu disagreed which is actually democratic. Democracy gives room for divergent views and opinions.

Obaseki is the one playing god here. He wants to impose himself over others but Oshiomole is insisting on direct primaries for all the aspirants. Who is more democratic between the both of them?
