Omeegodd! InterC on the edge of collapse? Am so surprised, honestly back in the days it used to be graduate's delight for a work place. My cousins who where in InterC(dat was hw they calld it in my hse then) wldnt let us hear word with their plenty yarns!
I hope all other naija banks aint secretly failing too o, cos i cant imagine hw many graduates wld be jobless if they do,
Minwhile, pls is Afribank still in Naija? Used to be one back i soooo hated back then in Nig.
Business / Re: Only Four Nigerian Banks Are Strong by Nezed(f): 11:56am On Jul 07, 2009
Well, methink that First bank cannot be disputed as been strong as even CBN and 'blind Bartimaeus' know that!
The other three(3) i have no fact or knowledge to agree or disagree to their inclusion in that rating.

But Oceanic bank shaking? Holy mother!
Intercontinental, i dnt really knw but back den in naija-like 2yrs ago, they were like the Bomb, had this happy bank logo or sumfin and everybody wanted to open an account with 'em or get a job there and their staff were kind of 'Bigz boys and galz'-i dunno  if its still same today (though i wouldnt be surprised to learn that some financial reports/records of banks are doctored).

Let those in the know come in and throw some enlightenment on this some banks are strong, weak, shaking, and might be swallowed by other banks-i find this last category especially funny gist cos i can still remember sumtime in the past how some banks went under are some piple till 2day aint recovered their Gees while some departed to the yonder as they couldnt bear the loss. we dnt want dat happening again, u knw, this piple work damn hard for their money for chrissake,

Dear Redfox and Aristocrat,
O' my  dearest brothers, why the fighting and name calling?
The issue been debated here is that of an analysis given by Market report which Red fox brought to our notice either for us to argue for or against the motion that some of our dearly beloved banks are not strong or are distressed.
Aris-tee, redfox was not the originator of the comment/findings, he only brought it to our notice and he even went further to lay out his source of info(punch newspaper, page 2 of 30th June,2009).
Aristee, u shouldnt have used such strong language in ur first post, though i feel u are a banker and may have felt slighted by that findings as ur bank might be very strong and was listed otherwise. Not to worry, we all know the scenario in Nigeria were awards and ratings are given to institutions/persons thet we feel are 'less deserving' and  keeps u thinking all thru the night about were and when such research was carried and the authencity.
Redfox, u may have been angered by Aristee comments, but u need not go down to his folks and engage in verbal artistry as u may have simply pointed out his strong words and taken exception to it or call the attention of the moderator(s).

Having said that dear brothers, let bygones be bygones and lets all contribute positively and intellectually to this 'research findings by Market report/world bank' and either agree to their findings, or tell 'em to go Bleep OFF!

Let the debate begin!

Well, cheating in all its entirety is a NO-NO for me, and would probably drive a wedge btween my hubby and i though i could learn to forgive and give him a second chance.

But him cheating with an ex?
Lawd, dats the height of it all! (Thats what is called 'insult upon injury').
Family / Re: Guys, What Would You Do If. . . by Nezed(f): 3:14pm On Jul 06, 2009
Even irritated by just reading the story as i can picture the scenario in my head,
Honestly speaking, there are women like that! Shameless things without respect for anybody, trust me, dat woman does not even come from a better home than the conductor. Her type fights all the neighbours and nags her husband to death!
The painful truth is that, retaliating would only bring you down to her 'class-less' level, and on-lookers would probably think less of you, but their are times when a man gotta do what a man got to do! period.

But by God, if it was my Husband, infact lemme come a little step down, my Boyfriend and a Dirty, sleazy swine dares slap him, without any wrong on his part and he doesnt give her a single neat dirty slap to bring her back to her senses, as soon as we get home, that relationship is over!

No, am not encouraging women violence here, get the picture, some woman just raises her hand and slaps a 'Man' without any provocation just because she feels she is a local champ in her ajegule area?
I dont know about y'all, but am an african woman and in Africa, we RESPECT our MEN!
Its not about been a doormat to a guy/man or watever, its about the repect for the male EGO!

Holy mother!
Are those comments from nigerian women? Gawd, we are losing our touch oooo!
Imagine Abosede and mrs. Jones reply,
Naija women should not over westernize and forget wat makes dem african( just pack ur load and ur children go ur papa house). Imagine the impetus, the insult!
Just kidding, grin grin grin.

But seriously, Condom? in my husband's pocket?
His pyjamas pocket abi His suit pocket? P.J pocket is cool by me,afterall i know why it is there but in his suit pockets? Did i go over to his office during lunch for some afternoon loving? If i cant remember doing that, then, someone has some explaining to do oh, and he better come clean with me.
Even if he cheats on me, he should respect me enuf to take care to wipe off the tell-tale signs! Dont rub it in! Afterall, u know i do ur damn laundry

Business / Re: American Hawks Gala On Lagos Highway! by Nezed(f): 5:46pm On Jul 02, 2009
whatalife:

American Hawks Gala On Lagos Highway!

Alsilski
An American, Mr. Sean Alsilski, was seen hawking a particular brand of snacks called Gala at the Ojota area of Lagos State.

He easily drew a large crowd as people laughed and wondered what could have made him to hawk Gala in Lagos, and on a sunny day too.

But Alsilski, unperturbed by the people watching and giggling at him, continued to sell his stuff to motorists and passers-by who were eager to buy from him, some just for the fun of it.

He rebuffed people trying to ask him why he was out in the streets selling snacks, saying he was too busy to talk to anyone. After much prompting by the writer of this report, he opened up on why he was out selling Gala on Lagos streets.

Alsilski said he came to Lagos to carry out a six-month research project on hawking and street trading in Lagos, and the best way to get the answers that he wants was to get involved in the real business rather than be an observer.

He said he had already spent five months in Lagos, hawking snacks at different parts of the state.

“I am here to do a research on hawking and street trading. I was billed to be in Nigeria for six months as part of the Fullbright exchange programme.

“I have been here for five months now, hawking. I have one month to go. I am going to give a presentation to the United States Embassy about my research,” said Alsilski.

Born in the city of New York, the United States, Alsilski lamented that from what he had observed, government was harsh on hawkers and street traders.

“Hawkers here are under stress right now from the government and I am studying what the government is doing right now. We can make some recommendations.

“Government is harsh on them. Some of them have had their goods taken away. I am not sure that is the best way to go about it.

“In some cities, hawkers and traders are given licences and allowed to go to certain areas to hawk. But hawkers should not be allowed to hawk in places like Oshodi,” he stated.

Alsilski’s hawking business has taken him to Yaba, Ojuelegba, Mushin, Ojota, Mile 2, Apapa, Lagos Island and Agege.

Now, they want to document us aiight? why is the U.S embassy interested in our 'street hawkin' business?

Family / Re: Where And How To Meet Guys Ready 4 Marriage by Nezed(f): 2:24pm On Jun 29, 2009
Hi everybody,
How is everyone doing and i hope y'all had a great weekend? Mine was awesome,
Am so amazed and humbled at how a simple thread turned out to be so entertaining and enlightening.

Entertaining how, u may ask?

It stated on June 22nd, 09 with just a simple question: Where and How to Meet Guys Ready 4 Marriage
The responses started streaming in slowly. 6mins after the question was posted online, Ifyalways from Belfast came along giving a funny and hilarious response, then Mr. crackles supplied us with his teeth and lafta, then came fhemmy with history of how that’s the funniest thing he has heard since after the days of Idi-amin.
Theolar mama, suddenly came up with her criteria (boy, I had a gud laff there) then Real Truth responded…, and since then, life has not remained the same for the two! Infact, nobody else existed on NL or on the thread except the two of ‘em with their question and answering session.
Chinesedoll and Chaircover were on hand with some nice/useful tips.
Then came my sniffing self and while it was meant to be a simple response to a question on NL, I couldn’t help noticing a tiny spark of embers from Real Truth [/b
Then came the poetic flair of gen2genius
, the research compatibility proposed by Chinese doll , the wedding bells been awaited by Rubi, Kelexworld interested in ashebi, Busybody making arrangements for the day and choosing to be the mother of the day, chykeo proposing to buy the ‘couple’ a deep freezer (God bless u), coolfaced8 with her artistry and kind words, etc.

How was it enlightening?
This is personal, but as an avid follower of this thread and a ‘promoter-kind of’ I noticed three things:
1. People are interested in love and marriage (how do I know? Check this thread)
2. Most people on NL would love a loving relationship, but only few like Theolar can voice it out
(Hackney, tnx for the insight).
3. You can very well achieve your entire dreams, if you’d only make a bold step!

At this juncture, I wish to say I need REAL TRUTH AND THEOLAR to be real…
Is this a serious relationship between you two or u are both fulfilling our NL fantasy?
1. If there is something interesting between you two (even if its just an affection), you can count on us (NL-THEOLAR’s THREAD MEMBERS) to be real and supportive.
2. If there is no sparkle between you two, don’t push it or try to amuse us, we will understand (no be by force, una must marry).
3. Importantly, if you guys think you are been rushed by us, you can tell us. We will give you two enuf rooms to do your thing and at your own pace then you can come back and give us the end note.

Finally, I submit here that if this union between Real truth and Theolar works out for real, I will personally attend wherever-(naija or outside), and whenever the wedding comes up! Even if it will entail using up my total bank account.

If it doesn’t work out, then it was sure one hell of a thread…, grin cheesy wink
God bless.

@blacksta:
You can say that again! Very apt!

@texazzpete:
if you enter a nigerian Uni at 18 years of age

who told you the official or normal age for entering University is 18yrs?
Back in the days, without the strikes, it used to be 16yrs(at 10yrs/11yrs, you should be in J.ss 1) and there are 15yrs in Uni for those who jumped primary six(6) as well as those with 'double promotions' and 'skipped' certain grades or classes.
Nigeria needs to move forward, not backward,

Am seriously hoping u are in Nigeria, cos i nid u to do some research.

2. with the strikes in secondary and primary skool, who enters Uni at 18yrs?
3. FYI, medicine is still a course, innit?

Politics / Re: Indefinite Strike,what A Shame To Nigerian Universities by Nezed(f): 4:29pm On Jun 23, 2009
This is actually sad,
While i was still at the university in Nigeria, i encountered about four strikes: ASUU strikes, cultism strike, salary increment strike, solidarity for sacked Uni-Illorin lecturers strike, etc.
The situation is pathetic and though i may be out of the university, i have a younger brother in the university back in Nigeria and so, ASUU still affects me.
You can imagine down here in the UK and in the U.S, we have 21, 22, 23 year olds applying for varying masters degree programme, whereas in nigeria at that age you are still battling with strikes in secondary school(this is the worst of it all- pri and sec skools going on strike) and wen u finally get into the university, the same story continues!
Then u keep faith and try to graduate only for job vacancies to specify-not more than 25/26years old and a 2-1. How does one make a 2-1 and remain less than 26yrs in this crisis and inceasant strikes conditions? not to mention the poor state of our educational facilities. What a nerve!

what does the the hapless graduate do? he goes and falsifies his age, bribes some officials/staffs and gets a job, next he keeps rubbing palms until he gets to the top and then he begins to except such acts of greasing his palms from new graduates/subordinates(afterall, he greased some other persons palms as well) and there a cycle is formed!
Bingo! it keeps going on and on and spreading to all other sectors, facets and institutions of our economy,

Is anyone still in doubt on how corruption thrives in Nigeria?
Gawd, we need a miracle!
Politics / Re: Ministerial Nominee fails simple questions. by Nezed(f): 3:42pm On Jun 23, 2009
I agree with most of the posts on the ability to communicate and articulate properly, esp wen undertaking a leadership position, but i beg to differ on the ground that because u are been considered for a particular position u should be an expert of all fields.
Yes, adequate knowledge of happenings in your country and around the world is necessary, but that doesnt mean he needs to be able to explain everything or know all.
Secondly, he is an ambassador to Togo and now to be made a minister of housing, wat is his background? its possible he is from the education sector or watever, afterall, Nigeria is fond of appointing ministers in sectors dat is alien to them. how do i know? ask Mrs. Dora Akunyili.
Also, i may not know the difference between deposits and equity and the likes, but i sure like hell know what 'climate change' and 'sustainable development' is all about cos that's my sector.
Thirdly, for pete' sake he was asked to explain an acronym! do you know how many baseless policies and the likes are introduced everyday in nigeria that if you try to keep up memorizing wat they stand for u may develope a heart condition!
Fourthly, the people questioning him, do they know better? aint they all a bunch of illiterates who happened to have shoved their way into the senate.
Fifthly, someone pointed out Obama's phonetics, but i guess we shouldnt be in a hurry to forget that Obama had practically zero-experience of the military/defence sector even wen Mccain and senator Clinton( as den was) tried rubbing that fact in but was that enuf to stop him from becoming a president? No.
His job is to be the General Overseer, but wit competent and the right people in those sectors in which he was deficient and work wt them!

In conclusion, while am not saying people with less knowledge or incompetent persons should be put in places of authority, i think putting credible people who have shown records of making watever sector they are in work, is most desirable( as an ambassador wat was his achievements),
Again i say, Ask. Mrs Akunyili and rebranding( she never studied journalism or mass comm).

Let's learn to appreciate 'humility' and ' the act of seeking forgiveness'.
While the gal may have thrown caution to the wind and slept with a senior colleague in ur 6weeks absence, i think her humility in acknowledging her error, her gracefulness in telling you before u hear it from outside and her spirit of seeking forgiveness, should be taken into account.
Rememba she told u about the incidence even before u heard about it? her saying she cant keep it any longer to herself is a guilty heart wanting to be free and be in peace. Also, a heart that does not want the insult/gossip of her act embarassing you in public,
THAT IS LOVE!
She has been honest, she has asked for forgiveness,
Show her forgiveness, ur post said uve always known her to be a gud gal; dnt let her 'one' foolish act mar a future that could be beautiful between u two!

For all have sinned and,
To err is human, but to forgive is 'DIVINE'!
