Hello my Latvian friend, welcome to our forums. Are you having problems with your Nigerian spouse?

Well I know for a fact that he has only been seeing this woman for 5 months. I came across something on our pc , he left himself logged in on yahoo messenger and they were asking questions back and forth to eachother like. Whats your favourite food? How many brothers and sisters do you have? Whats your father's name? rubbish like that! That was 5 mths ago. Any way I here she's introducing herself to people as his wife! He even took our son to her house without my knowledge at one point! He'll probably be getting our son to call her mummy soon!
This is getting uglier by the second, he left you for a girl he met on the internets. You shoulda confronted him 5 months ago, but then again, he would have branded you a stalker for looking through his private conversations. It all boils down to what should be private and what shouldn't be between man and wife.

I pray your husband comes to his senses soon, hopefully he would. Making it work is a big part of marraige, don't give up yet.

I've never been married but I hate the fact that this lady came to look for help with her marraige on nairaland and no one is encouraging her.

Poster, stick to your man, meet with his family, pray to whoever you believe in, try to please him, please do your best to make this marraige work. If not anything but for your son's sake. I also believe it's a phase he is going through, we all to through things. In my own case, for the past couple of weeks, I've dumped all my hip hop collection in favour of old Nigerian tunes, and this doesn't mean I won't ever come back to hip hop.

@ n-gauge,

good you're looking out for 'em oldies, we've gotta keep to our roots. I used to have a couple of Dr. Victor Olaiya's songs on my PC before a virus crashed the whole system and wiped off all my songs.

Oh well, might i suggest Beautiful Nubia? Dude is of this age, but his style, genre is of the Highlife/Juju legends. I especially loved his Jangbalajùgbú album.

Look out for his hit song - Òwúrò Lojó.
Thank you man. Your reply means a lot, it means I'm not the only one reading and posting in my own thread, since sima is more of a troll.

I will definitely get to Beautiful Nubia soon. I like his music too, he actually makes a lot of sense on record. But for now watch out for my next post, it's a KSA megapost!!!

Come on now be serious. Are you saying that Nigerians are used by the Chinese as slaves. South African Blacks just like their African American counterparts used to work for whites, but that was long ago. Now Nigerians are being used as slaves, this is a shame. What baffles me is that they're being abused by the Chinese.
Just come to South Africa and see how the Chinese are treated, they were even begging the government to classify them as blacks.

This is shame, aren't the Nigerians supposed to be the supreme beings of Africa, the educated intellects who know everything. The clever ones who can con even the most educated in Europe.
Man you need to read the damn article before opening your whiteman's ass kissing mouth. What Nigerians are being used by Chinese men?

On this topic, I've been saying it forever, the Chinese people are hell-bent on taking over the world. And now that the US economy is in red, they are just waiting for the fall of the great American empire. Una eyes go see ouien!

What makes it worse is that nobody can criticize them because almost every country owes them something. Where is opium when you need it most?

Coming up is a bunch of early Yoruba songs, this songs paved way for KSA, CCEO and later on SSP.

First off is a Hubert Ogunde song titled Ibere Ki i se onise, something in the vein of the English saying "The End Justifies the means. "The call and response  scheme is one of the things I like about this.

Watch out for his use of extended metaphors - "The world is a river, a river is what the world is, if the people of the world turn into a river, I wouldn't drown." Translating these metaphors was actually a stupid thing to do, you need to listen to the song in context so as to grab the puns, alliteration, assonance . . . Conclusively, this is what our music should sound like!!!

Hubert Ogunde - Ibere Ki Se onise

The other song here is the song "The King of children" by I.K. Dairo, we run into the same problems with translation in the title of this song. The real title is Okin Omo ni - meaning "he is the Alpha male rooster among Kids,"I know my translation is off but its better that "The king of children"

I will end up getting more early yoruba stuff, I have a lot of digging to do. I want some Tunde Nightingale, more Hubert Ogunde. Some Fatai Rolling Dollar . . . anything you can contribute to this thread will be appreciated.

This thread is crap-free. D'banj's music doesn't appeal to me and this is my thread. He sings about the same sexual things - sex, sex, sex, without making a lot of sense and I don't find him creative. Everyone in this thread is great in their own rights, D'banj . . . not so much.

Should I throw in D'banj and all that crap y'all listen to?

@ sima, yeah whatever you say.
@ opslag, welcome broda, how body?

My highlife post. Highlife was popular in the 50s and 60s. It was mainly a Nigeria-Ghana thing although it was a popular music genre throughout West-Africa.

Victor Olaiya's song Omo Pupa, literarily means light-skinned lady. I don't think this song caused any controversies when it came out, If he sang this song now, all the black and proud girls would be calling for his head. Light-skinned people are part of Africa. I used to hate it when guys made statements like "I only date light-skinned women" but as I grew older, I came to understand that everyone has a preference and preferring light-skinned girls is not necesarily "colonial mentality."

Victor Olaiya - Omo Pupa

I know nothing about the next two songs but I know Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe was one of the greatest Nigerian musicians of his time.

Maybe Sir Victor Uwaifo deserves a post by himself . . . These two songs are his most popular works. The first one Joromi was a party favourite over 9000 years ago and the other one Guitar Boy is also a great piece of art showcasing his guitar skills. Legend has it that he wrote Guitar Boy right after an encounter with a mermaid. The second part of Joromi also tells a funny story about a monkey.

These song titled Shango by Peter King is gloryfying Yoruba gods Shango and Ogun. Peter King went to Trinity College of Music, London with Fela and Wole Bucknor. He calls his music Afro-Jazz ( Guy Warren of Ghana and the group Jazz Maniacs from SA  also claim to be the innovators of Afro-Jazz)

The next song is by Tony Allen. I'm posting this not so much for the message but for the drums on this song right here, mindblowing! J.dilla sampled this for my favourite rapper's song, Heat off LWFC.  Rumours have it that the late Dilla didn't clear the sample. A-SI-KO - Time waits for no man.

He is also accepted as one of the greatest African drummers of all time along with guess who, Guy Warren of Ghana.

This one was quite popular around 1994, I remember the electric drums and who can forget

We are happy people
we make you happy / 2ce
We are H-a-p-p-y, P-e-o-p-l-e
we are happy people we make you happy.

It will be nice if anyone can help me with a song by this same guy. In it he tells a story of going abroad and spitting out of the window while oyibos outside said "f-ck you motherf-cking shit."

The next two songs are short songs from Chief Ebenezer Obey. They were both recorded in London in 1969. The first one is titled Ibadan, a homage to the largest black city in the world. Emafi Ibadan sere. The other song is titled Ore Serere (Friends, Do good).  Watch out for the drums that kick in about 1 minute into the song - simply beautiful.

Watch out, I'm about to unleash the Abami Eda on y'all. Fela is the greatest Nigerian musician, PERIOD. He is also arguably one of the greatest Nigerians to ever walk this planet.

First in line is Lady, my friends use this song whenever we have arguements about Fela being a sexist. I don't think he was, how can you call him sexist when he admits his mother is the greatest influence in his own life and his mother's name is synonymous with women's rights and feminism in Africa.

By the way I saw a broadway musical on Fela over the weekend and they called his mother Funmilayo ANIKULAPO-kuti, the Nigerian in me laughed out loud. The show has been going on for 2 months and nobody corrected them, her correct name is Funmilayo RANSOME-kuti. Anyway . . .

Lady - Fela
http://www.zshare.net/audio/52703495d61b14e5/

Who're you is from the same album as Lady, they are both from Fela's 1970 album London Scene, his first Afro-beat record(?). Some people call the song Epanude - meaning close your mouth in the Yoruba language. Unlike many other Fela song, he sings a lot of this in Yoruba.

Who're You (Epanude) - Fela
http://www.zshare.net/audio/5270356047ec0d9e/

Next up is one of Fela's encounters with the Nigerian Police. It shows Fela's sense of humour and his ability to tell a story right. The story: The Nigerian police came to Fela's house while he was smoking weed, as soon as they came in he got arrested but the strange one did something strange - swallowed the weed. The Nigerian police decided to wait for him to take a shit so they could do a shit-test and find the marijuana. The policeman that was chosen to guard him fell asleep after 3 days and so Fela used another inmate's shit. EXPENSIVE SHIT.

I was addressing nawee, and not you ma'am.

That was a bait to the big idiot and he fell for it, face first. Nawee, you and I know you are not any kind of drugdealer and you are not a mac like you claim to be. Your fakeness is so pathetic and sad, you know big time pushers who hold blocks down like you claim to do don't post online, and people who get as much girls as you claim don't boast online either.

I'm not the only one that sees through your lies, anyone with a tiny ability to reason can see that you've been watching straight to DVD movies and you think that's the way to live. You also come accross as someone who reads a lot about drugdealing as opposed to someone who takes part in it. Your mum is a fucking PhD holder and you grew up soft and you are still soft.

In one of your posts you also mention being soft and not getting girls in high school, guess what you are NOT still getting girls. Real pimps were born that way its not something people learn after being dweebs in high school. You are a big time gay, don't try to act big online.

I was high when I made this thread in the morning and I also posted it from
my highphone (get it?), so that explains the grammartical errors.

All I'm trying to say is that religion was created by man for other men and it was later used by the slave masters and colonial masters to exploit us. Religious arguements should not exist and even if we have them must we be so serious about the slave master's religion?
