You may not have experienced because it has not presented itself at your position. Personally, I did experienced it when I was in my early 20s. In a night journey from, I met a girl from Lagos to Benin(we sat at the back seat of the bus), we were discussing untill we were approaching Ofosu when she suddenly told me that she was cold and that she needed something to cover her body. As a little boy, I did not know what to do, untill she put her head on me and even asked me to cover her with my arms. Bros, the rest is history.

Night travel may be fraught with a lot of dangers in Nigeria as highways are not in good condition and robbers use the bad state of the roads as an opportunity to ambush inter-state commercial vehicles.

But in spite of these inherent dangers, there seems to be no reduction in the number of people who choose to go on night journeys. What is the motive of some who travel at night in luxurious buses? Find out below...

Investigation by Punch's Ademola Olonilua showed that attraction of some of the passengers to the night travel was more bizarre as much as it was almost unbelievable. When Punch visited some parks to investigate, it found out passengers preferred night travels for different reasons.

At Jibowu, an area of Lagos where luxury buses load passengers to the Eastern part of the country, Chidioke Ekezie, a motorboy attached to a bus of one of the popular transport operators in Lagos, gave an insight into life on night buses, which he explained could be very vibrant and “interesting” as a result of the duration of the journeys.

“There has never been a time that those taking night journey reduced. The thing is that a lot of people just like travelling at that time simply because it is traffic-free,” Ekezie said.

Asked to elaborate on the “interesting” part of the journey, which he had earlier mentioned, the motorboy said, “A lot of people make new friends and many young people who board the buses as strangers become couples during the journey.”

When asked whether there is any se*ual activity during these journeys, Ekezie smiled mischievously and said:
“It is a known fact that it happens. Some people are just quite stupid. Most couples wait till we get to our designated bus stops to have intimacy. 
“For instance, on a journey from Onitsha to Lagos, the bus sometimes leaves at about 10pm and later stops at Benin so that the passengers can stretch their legs, buy refreshments and ease themselves. This takes a long time. 
“I have seen a lot of passengers get down and go around a corner to have sex. It happens. I have also seen some passengers enjoying their time in the bus while others are off the bus. When this happens, it is a problem for the man and woman involved. We don’t condone such acts in the bus. 
“We could decide to drop the involved passengers there and leave because it is very silly for people to engage in this in the bus.”
A 23yrs old student, who preferred to give just his first name, Chukwueloka, was booked on one of the luxury buses to his home state of Imo, when our correspondent visited the park. He said he always took night buses anytime he went home.

“Night buses are interesting. A lot of things happen there,” he declared, when our correspondent had a chat with him on why he favoured night travel that much. A lot of things like what?

He went into a narration. “There was a time I went to Yenagoa (Bayelsa State capital) in 2005. I boarded the bus at Mazamaza and got a seat beside a fair lady who was also going to Bayelsa. The journey was at least seven hours and we took off around 6pm.

“I had been chatting with the lady since we left Lagos. About four hours into the journey, she yawned and said she was sleepy. She rested her head on my shoulder and there was no way she could be comfortable if my arm did not go around her shoulders.

“My arm brushed her breast mistakenly and she did nothing. It turned out that by her body language as the journey went on, she wanted something. I had heard about such things happening on buses but I did not immediately understand her intention.

“She later made it clear when her hand went to my zippers.”

Chukwueloka laughed as he narrated this unusual escapade. He said he would never forget it for the rest of his life. “I just wanted to experience it. She sat on my lap and other passengers were asleep in the bus. It was also dark,” he said.

Having a intimate encounter with a complete stranger may be a no-no for many people but Chukwueloka told Punch that he used protection. (How true? was he going on a journey with a condom?)

At Oshodi, another lady narrated a funny story that her aunty told her. She said, “My aunty boarded a luxury bus from Jibowu. The last bus stop was at Aba and a man came out of the bus complaining that his wallet, his wrist watch and the handbag containing his laptop had been stolen. My aunty said when the young man explained what happened, every other passenger of the bus made jest of him.

"What happened was that when all other passengers in the bus were asleep, he made intimate advances at the lady he sat with. They started handling each other even though they were strangers when they boarded the bus. The lady later offered that the man should suck her boobs. The lady must have rubbed a sleeping portion on her boobs because the man slept off afterwards.

“The lady stole all his belongings and disembarked from the bus before it got to the last bus stop.”. Is this a mere fabrication or it happens? Drop your experiences and/or views.

You are right, but what could be the reason that gives some female folks comfort being with the male counter part, but abhors or find it irritating staying with a female like her? Please, I crave for your views to enable me understand what some girls mean when they tell a guy that they prefer to keep male friends instead of female friends. I have had the chance of having various female friends, majority of whom were just casual friends, but among these girls are some that you hardly see with female friends, except may be their class or church mates and nothing connect them more than issues about the duo. Just yesterday, I was discussing with a girl and another girl came into the meeting to exchange greetings with us and left immediately. When she left, the girl I was with just told me plainly that the girl is not her friend, but just looking for a way to get close to her and that she is not interested in the relationship, the reason being that she does not like female friendship, instead, that she is more comfortable with male friends. I have encountered this similar position from so many girls. While some adduced varying reasons ranging from 'the gossip' aspect of the female folk, some will say a girl to girl friendship breed 'jealousy', 'boy friend snatching', and so many other reasons. Not far from the truth. Some of the Nigerian students in foreign institutions in countries like Cyprus, Ghana,etc, went there not because these schools are better, but mainly for three reasons: 1. Majority of them could not withstand JAMB and even some don't have upto the required credit passes in O'levels. 2. Some went to these countries to school in order to fall into the 'aristocrat' category of Nigrians that had their university education outside Nigeria. This is because of the erroneous belief that certificates from foreign schools, even if it is Afaghanistan or Bangladesh, are better than those obtained from Nigeria schools. Thirdly, some of these students went to foreign schools, with an eye not neccesary on the certificate that they will obtain, but an eye to either 'work' their way to remain permanently in such countries or transit into Europe from there, for greener pasture.

The two games will be played 48 hours apart in mid-November

Super Eagles’ head coach, Stephen Keshi, has invited 25 players to execute the two big games against Ethiopia and Italy that the African champions will execute in Calabar and London, UK, 48 hours apart, in mid-November.

The first match will be the 2014 FIFA World Cup final qualifying match against the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia, at the U. J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Saturday, 16th November. Super Eagles lead Ethiopia 2-1 from the first leg in Addis Ababa on 13th October.

The African champions take on four-time World champions Italy at the Craven Cottage ground of English Premiership club, Fulham FC in a high-profile friendly in London, two days after the Ethiopia match.

Coach Keshi has recalled brilliant young defender Kenneth Omeruo, a key component of his 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winning squad, as well as the rugged and attack-minded midfielder Reuben Gabriel.

Both men were out injured for months. Omeruo dislocated a troubled shoulder at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil in the summer while Gabriel would be happy to be fully fit after sitting on the bench all through the Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Stand-in skipper Vincent Enyeama is called alongside goalkeepers Austin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim, while South Africa-based defender James Okwuosa and strikers Obinna Nsofor and Uche Nwofor also keep their places. According to an article on Space.com entitled: “How to Safely Observe Sunday’s Solar Eclipse”: “Here is a helpful reminder for new eclipse chasers: be safe. A fraction of a second of magnified, unfiltered sunlight will sear your eye’s retina irreparably. Imagine a horrible sunburn on your eyeball. Your eye cannot grow new layers and (peel off) the (burnt) ones like your skin tissue can, so staring directly at the sun is dangerous without the protection of safety equipment used by veteran sky watchers and astronomers.”

We are appealing to governments to deploy their media and orientation outfits to mount a massive civic education of the populace because it will not do if after the eclipse we have a new batch of avoidably blinded citizens. The private media, religious and advocacy groups should also key into this public enlightenment.

It is time that the specialised glasses needed to observe eclipses are made readily available, while corporate organisations and social groups should organise observation centres and invite interested citizens to come and safely participate.

For the avoidance of doubt, the eclipse is likely to be partial in the Southern parts, from Calabar to Lagos, while in the central areas like Abuja and Kaduna; it is likely to be a full eclipse.

We call on youth people and students to allow the momentum of the eclipse to fire their renewed interest in science and technology, especially space research. They must get ready to join their peers from other parts of the world to become equal stakeholders in these areas in future.

In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa.

This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium.

An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity said that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week.

The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level.

It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point and he will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike.

A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements.

Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.

According to report, the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail.

It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Hope Uzodinma, on Wednesday said the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) purchased  two armoured vehicles for Aviation minister, Stella Oduah and another two for its Managing Director, George Uriesi.
Mr. Uzodinma spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of the investigation into the purchase of two armoured vehicles by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for Aviation Minister Oduah.
He said that FAAN Managing Director, Mr. Uriesi, told the committee on oath that his agency purchased 202 operational cars and two bullet-proofs cars for the office of the managing director.
“Uriesi did confirm that among the operational vehicles they purchased, four of them are armoured vehicles, two for the managing director and two for the minister.
“We told them to go back and put everything in writing and make comprehensive statements on all vehicles purchased.
“They bought a total number of 202 vehicles for different operations so until they come back on Monday we cannot rush into conclusion.
“The managing director of FAAN said they did a funding arrangement with a commercial bank,’’ he said.
Senator Uzodinma, who said investigations were still ongoing, promised that the committee was committed to undertaking a holistic probe to ensure that all anomalies were corrected to reposition the sector.
He quoted the FAAN managing director as saying that the Ms Oduah gave approval for the purchase of the armoured vehicles.
The Senate Committee on Aviation had on Oct. 29, queried FAAN over the purchase of four bullet-proof cars for use by the managing director
Mr. Uriesi told the committee that the vehicles included two Lexus Limousine cars and two Prado jeeps.
He said that contrary to insinuations, the limousines were purchased at the cost N60 million each and not N70 million.
Mr. Uriesi, who said that he did not have details of the cost of the Prado jeeps, however, said the vehicles were still in the custody of the bankers which funded the purchase.
The committee ordered the managing director to appear before it on Nov. 4, with comprehensive details of the transaction and the documents for all the purchases.
This new revelation came to light while a shocked nation is still investigation the purchase of two armoured cars for the aviation minister by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
The cars were bought for a whooping N255million.

ABUJA – The Nigerian Police Force Wednesday, tear-gassed  members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Abuja branch as they mobilise for their protest into the streets of the Federal Capital City, Abuja.
Eyewitnesses said that the lecturers had gathered at the mini-campus of the university at  Gwagwalada for the protest when suddenly policemen and plain clothes security personnel took over the entire arena and prevented them from the embarking on the protest.
Speaking to journalists, the zonal Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Clement Chup said ASUU sent a letter to the Commissioner of Police at Gwagwalada to notify  him of their  protest but was surprised when they were prevented by Police from entering into campus.
According to him, “We members of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU of University of Abuja had actually planned to carry out a peaceful demonstration today . What we planned was to have a community marching just to march through some major streets in Abuja, to sensitize the public on the essence of our strike. You will agree with me that the strike that has been on for the past four months now is a cause for worry for everybody. We wanted to tell members of the public we are on strike because  the Federal Government have refused to implement the agreement they had with our members since 2009.
“But unfortunately when we got to the campus this morning (Wednesday), we were prevented from entering the campus by Policemen. When they prevented us from entering the campus we sat down helplessly outside the gate, just chatting and trying to put heads together, the Policemen came around and tear gassed us several times to disperse us”.

Chup continued, “We were wondering why, a security agent that are suppose to provide security for law abiding citizens would turn around and begin to oppress the same people they are suppose to provide security for. It was really a cause for worry, even as they threw over 13 canisters of tear gas at us. Some of us were soaked in the tear gas and one of us who has asthma condition was rushed to the hospital.
“We insisted that it is our right so at the end of the day we were able to carry out our protest at a point in front of the university gate. When they tried to stop us and they didn’t succeed they now allowed us to carry out our protest at the gate., where we displayed our banners, sang our solidarity song and left”.

The House of Representatives committee on Aviation, this afternoon began hearing on the purchase of two armoured cars for the aviation minister, Stella Oduah, at the cost of N255 million.
The hearing was earlier scheduled to hold on Tuesday but was postponed to allow the minister, who was away in Israel for a bilateral air service agreement signing, to return to the country.
PREMIUM TIMES’ National Assembly correspondent, Ini Ekott, provided these updates as they unfold from the hearing room.

Another Coscharis official: Armoured cars are in levels; Level B7 is the highest for any civilian/VIP armoured cars. More than that is for military tanks.
Coscharis: The controversial cars are level B7. The BMW 760 series, bought by NCAA, goes for 418 thousand Euro from factory without shipping cost, taxes, etc.
Coscharis offers to demonstrate a powerpoint to show how it arrived at the cost. But is disallowed by committee.

The two cars were imported through Tin Can Port 2; Imported from Antwerp Netherlands.
The vehicles were cleared 19/6/2013.
Coscharis imported the cars without paying import duties since there was a waiver from the ministry of finance.
Coscharis obtained the waiver claiming the armoured cars were part of 300 vehicles imported for the Sports festival in Lagos last year, and therefore the beneficiary was Lagos state government.
The due import duty should have been N10.1 million.
The cars had an End User Certificate from the NSA office in the name of Coscharis.
The waiver obtained by Coscharis was for one year; as such the time of importation this year was covered.
Customs admit its laws requires that it enforces duty on any item for which waiver was obtained, which was not used for the purpose stated-in this case, for Sports festival.

Car dealers as well as end users of armoured cars are mandated to seek authorization from the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, before ordering or importing such vehicles into Nigeria.
Last week, reliable sources at the office of the NSA told PREMIUM TIMES no authorization certificate was ever issued to either Minister Oduah or the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to procure the controversial vehicles.

I weep for you guys, who are trying to trivialize this issue. That a Minister is hardworking and should therefore sqander tax payers' money on mere cars, whereas millions of Nigerians are out there suffering? I wonder what the cost of President's Jonathan's cars would be if a Minister can buy only two cars at over 200million Naira, especially when the money was not budgeted for. Bros wake up and face reality.
