THE embattled Anambra State commissioner for special duties, Chief Vincent Ejikeme Ezenwajiaku, who was declared wanted by the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, of the Nigeria Police for allegedly obtaining N10.6 million by false pretence and forgery has announced his resignation from the Anambra State Executive Council. He has also sued the Commissioner of Police in charge of Special Fraud Unit, SFU, as well as one Chuks Mgbenena of NIMASA and CSP Okposiakpo Elolor for N250 million over what he described as an attempt to damage his reputation. Ejikeme Ezenwajiaku, Addressing reporters Thursday in Awka, Ezenwajiaku, who looked sober, said the import of what the people were doing was just to take his pound of flesh because he was appointed a commissioner by Governor Peter Obi. According to him, the amount involved was not N10.6 million naira, adding that Chuks Mgbemena and SFU just want to put him in bad light, to smear his hard -earned image that had taken him time to build and perhaps, to lose his job as commissioner in the state. He said: “Since my life, I have never been involved in fraud, or arrested or detained by the police on anything concerning any form of illegality because it was a vow I took after my National Youth Service Corps. “As a result of this raging fire, I am going further by resigning my position as the State Commissioner for Special Duties and I am going to tender my letter to Governor Obi first thing tomorrow morning (Friday), because I do not intend to embarrass this government. “This is to prove my innocence until I clear my name of this mess. Whatever it will take to do it, I will do it”. In the suit instituted at the Awka High Court, Ezenwajiaku is urging the court to restrain Mr. Chucks Mgbemena, the Commissioner of Police in charge of SFU and CPS Elohor from arresting him or continuing to harass him, pending the determination of the suit. In the suit No A/MISC/2013, Ezenwajiaku said he decided to go court to enforce his fundamental human rights in suit No: A/MISC. 130/2013 at the Awka High Court. Going down memory lane, Ezenwajiaku said: “This matter is a commercial transaction between two brothers from the same town, in 1992. I established a company, Bio Plastics Limited, which I funded and promoted with my money without any bank transaction at the cost of N37 million”. “The industry produces containers for packaging of cosmetics and we went into production in 1995. This Mgbemena man was my wedding sponsor and I told him what I was doing and he declared interest in it.” “He also stopped me from bringing in another brother of ours, Chief Jude Ezechukwu, the owner of the Defunct Jasper Football Club, into the company. “The issue of owing this man came up in 2004 after the meeting of the board of the company and it was agreed that I should pay him N7.5m which I agreed to do. We have never quarreled. Things went had because I was bed ridden for a long time and that was what delayed the payment. “All I know is that I owe Mgbemena N7.5millon of which I have already paid N1.5 million, remaining N6million which I have promised to liquidate. I do not know why my brother has taken this small thing too far.” The issue also came up at the State House of Assembly for deliberation, but it was later stood down, apparently for the lawmakers to get the true picture of the matter. The issue was raised by Mr. Ebele Obi representing Idemili South constituency under matters of urgent public importance. |

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has tipped Super Eagles forward Victor Moses to play a key role in the club’s counter-attacking plan this season. Table-topping Liverpool host Southampton tomorrow at Anfield with the Reds boss keen to unleash the Nigerian star on the visitors in their bid to maintain their lead on the table. The on-loan Chelsea winger scored in the 2-2 draw against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night and has been assured of a starting role in his home debut by Rodgers. Speaking to the club’s website, Rodgers said that the forward’s counter-attacking conversion had been borne out of preparation on the training pitches at Melwood. “He had a couple of moments where you could see why we brought him in,” Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com. “He can take players on. He’s got a wee bit to go yet to get up to speed with the intensity; but his goal was terrific. “We did a bit of work in the week on counter-attacks – we felt there would be moments in the game here when you’re not going to have the ball, but when you do get the ball can you flood forward? |

Madam Waziri, you can't fool Nigerians all the time, but sometimes ago. Nigerians are well informed of how the then Minister of Justice, Aonduaka, worked and used you to frustrate and derail the prosecution of Ibori by the EFCC. We know the dirty things EFCC under you did to always take the wrong side in order to actualize ur game plan, which was also the game of the FG then. We know how it took the UK government to prosecute Ibori, when the Courts in Nigeria, in clandestine connivance with the EFCC under you, thwarted the course of justice. Madam Waziri, pls wise up. Obasanjo is not your class; If he says your appointment as EFCC chair was orchestrated by Ibori, as a former President of the country, he is in a position to know the inside things in the government. |
President Goodluck Jonathan has reshuffled his cabinet, dropping nine ministers. The ministers affected are Ruqayat Rufai (Education); Zainab Kunchi (Power, [state]); Buka Tijani (Agriculture [state]), Shamsudeen Usman (National Planning; Ita Okon (Science and Technology); Olugbenga Ashiru (Foreign Affairs); Ama Pepple (Lands) and Hadiza Mailafia (Environment). Nigerians had long expected President Jonathan to rejig his lackluster cabinet which has largely failed to deliver services to the Nigerian people. But while the expectation mounted, Mr. Jonathan repeatedly dispelled speculation that he had plans to fire non-performing ministers. Last August, he unveiled a rating procedure known as Performance Contract Agreement for ministers but said he would not use the result of the assessment in considering who to fire. Mr. Jonathan said the assessment would only appraise his administration’s performance and delivery of targets to Nigerians. “I read all kinds of thing in the media, that the president wants to assess the ministers so that he would know who would go and who would stay. That is not the purpose of this. “We would have done it probably in the first week when we came on board, but the key thing is that we have given ourselves points that we think we will get at, we believe that if we get at those points or even if we achieve 70 per cent of that, at least it will be better off for our own country,” the president said. According to the president, the exercise was to ensure enhanced performance, transparency and accountability in governance, adding that it is not a witch-hunting exercise. “I want to assure every one of you who has taken part in the exercise that this is not a witch-hunt targeted at anybody,” the president said in his remarks after the signing ceremony. |
We should know that every church member, starting from the Head Pastor or Bishop, the pastors and workers through to the members are human and therefore prone to making mistakes in the course of their volunteering efforts for which God only can reward. We cannot because of the mistakes of a few in a big Christian organization like Winners Chapel begin to cast aspersion on the entire members of the chruch. You are not being fair to the over 90% that have not hurt you in any way. Moreso, is the fact that we go to church to worship and serve God and not the person heading the church or the erring members. We must not go to church to find faults in others as the major or only reason why we go to church. And we must remember, you don't talk ill of the Lord's anointed. So castigating the Pastors or the entire members as a bunch you hate would not do you any good, instead, as a member of the Church, don't become a spectator, but get involve in the scheme of things and you could change so many things to the right way or 'Godly' direction(s) that you crave for. Thank you and God bless you all. |

Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi has dismissed claims that he had anything to do with Sunday Mba’s proposed move to AC Bastia. The Warri Wolves player was believed to be on his way to the Ligue 2 club only to see his dream move to a European club stall at the final hurdle. Reports in Nigeria alleged that the 25-year-old’s move did not materialise because of a disagreement between Keshi and Warri Wolves boss Amaju Pinnick over how the transfer fee would be shared. Keshi has, however, denied any involvement in the scuppered deal and insists he is mostly surprised that Mba did not seal his move to the Corsica club. “I have absolutely no idea about what this is all about,” Keshi told SuperSport. “My attention was called to the story and I am as baffled by the insinuations of it all. This story has all the hallmarks of people sponsored to cause disharmony in the camp so that we will fail and then Keshi will be blamed. "It is still a matter of great surprise to me that there are people charged with our football that would rather the team failed first." Mba, along with the rest of the Super Eagles squad are currently based in a very rainy Calabar as they prepare for their crucial World Cup Qualifier with Malawi and Keshi insists the team is fully focused on getting a good result. "Everyone in camp is determined, no distractions of any kind at all mentally," the AFCON-winning manager added. "Only thing we are praying is that it stops raining because it has been raining for the past two days and heavily too.". My vervict: does this reveal to us that National team coaches are indirectly involved in transfer of players in the national teams? Air your view, please. |

Information Minister addressed the press at the end of the FEC meeting. The Federal Government on Wednesday chided university lecturers, ASUU, over their ongoing indefinite strike; saying if all sectors of government decide to down their tools until all their problems are solved, the country would shut down. Ms. Rufa’i said ASUU should take the initiative to address some of the issues it wants the government to resolve. Some of the demands of the university lecturers include increased budgetary allocation to education sector up to 26 per cent, payment of Earned Academic Allowances to lecturers, and provision of critical infrastructure to universities. Many of the demands were resolved in an agreement signed between the federal government and ASUU in 2009. However, while ASUU demands a full implementation of the agreement, the government said it cannot implement all and is seeking a re-negotiation of some part of the agreement. The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, gave the government’s position on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the end of the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, in Abuja. “This country belongs to all of us, if we all insist that every sector problem must be completely solved, we will down tools we will not work, then the country will stop working,” he said. “If we say because of every particular problem we face in this country we will not work until it is resolved, then I’m sure there is no sector that will work.” The minister directed his remarks to university lecturers, ASUU, who have been on a nationwide strike for over two months; insisting government implements a 2009 agreement it had with the union. “We are partners with ASUU, we are friends. They are our patriots and we understand the critical role that the universities teachers are doing to create a new society that we are hoping to have. “But at the same time, this is a reality question that we need to look at and we have to put the nation first,” he said. Mr. Maku, who said the federal government has spent a lot on the development of tertiary education across the country, appealed to the lecturers to have a rethink on its demands by considering the fact that there are many other competing demands from other sectors. He said outside of security, education is one of the sectors the government had expended a lot of money on. “I know all of us desire more from the system but the truth is that there are limitations and from the limitations we have, we believe that ASUU really needs to do rethink and ensure that we reopen our universities because really we are feeling the pain of our children being at home and this indeed is completely avoidable,” he said. “Don’t forget that in 2010 we announced a 53.4 per cent increase on public salaries across board which affected all people in the public service, that has still left a huge deficit in the annual budget of the country. “I just want to say that it is unfortunate that our students are still at home. It is very sad because the federal government has done so much in the last three years for education.” The minister mentioned the completion of 37 projects in University of Benin, multiple on-going projects in the University of Port Harcourt and University of Jos, as well as many polytechnics and colleges of education as some of the actions of the federal government in the education sector. “Government has priorities. Education remains number one priority and will continuously remain the number one priority of a developing country like Nigeria. There is no way we can avoid it, the quality of human capital is going to determine the future of our country. But at the same time, when you look at the environment today, we are dealing with the question of power, railway that had broken down how years,” the minister added. “We are dealing with the issues of roads, of creating the enabling environment for industries to prosper. There is no area today that you touch that you do not have major urgency for government to deal with.” “There is no government at this time that is funding education the way we are funding, we will continue to do more as funds come. This is aside from the N100 billion that president has set aside to address some the infrastructure deficits in the university system. So it is our responsibility but when you look at this nation at the moment and you look at the various challenges that we have had to confront in the last two years including insecurity that is induced in some northern states. The money we have spent dealing with Boko Haram and other avoidable crisis that have been generated could in fact provide all the infrastructure for universities but we have to address them.” In her statement, the Minister of Education, Ruqayyat Rufa’i, said the government already made its stance clear. She accused ASUU of portraying the federal government in a bad light by claiming the government was unwilling to implement the 2009 agreement. What do you think of the stubborn positions of both the Federal Government and the striking lecturers? |

ABUJA- CRISIS rocking the Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP , Saturday, took another dimension as supporters of the Chairman, Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Senator Andy Uba, his brother and a chieftain of the party, Chief Chris Uba and those of the party’s candidate, Tony Nwoye, engaged in a free-for-all. The Eagle square, venue of the convention was literarily turned into a boxing arena as Anambra delegates threw away decorum and engaged in fisticuffs before delegates from other states. Vanguard gathered that the Ubas, the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, and other delegates were seated at the Anambra State pavilion when Tony Nwoye came in at 11.15am with his supporters, which added fillip to the already charged atmosphere. In a twinkle of an eye, a fracas ensued between supporters of the two governorship candidates that emerged from separate congresses in the state last week. The fight lasted for over thirty minutes as the Aviation Minister stormed out of the pavilion with her aides. |
That's according to E247mag. Here's how they are telling the story. A fortnight ago when star actress, Lola Alao, got married in far- flung Atlanta, United States of America, USA, to Adewale Yakubu Adewale Ajibola, the couple, literally, could not contain their excitement. Lola was positively glowing in her creamy wedding dress while Yakubu sporting a bespoke grey suit, wore a disarming smile. Though not an opulent wedding, they exchanged marital vows, flaunted the marriage certificate and the pictures that went viral online generated mixed reactions. There are fears too, solemn fears: Lola's new hubby is plagued with an ugly past - a credit card scam that kept him 'inside' in a Kuwaiti cell. According to an insider, this isn't the first time the 'Nigerian big boy' has been on the wrong side of the law. His claim to relevance and easy bait for unsuspecting women who wanted love and affection, has been his American citizenship’s status and his dashing looks, a reference to what in Yoruba parlance is called Faworaja, (meaning a person who lives off his looks). When he was arrested in Kuwait for the credit card scam, Yakubu, was able to answer the police questions adroitly, but the authorities were not convinced of his claim that he was innocent. A ring of 'scammers' had some months before his arrival, operated in the same manner and went away with their loot in the Middle East commercial city. Unsuspectingly, Yakubu walked into a "orange"y trap. While Wale Yakubu Ajibola, the Nigerian-born American citizen served terms for one year, the Big Sam turned the other cheek. Lola, who is hell-bent on getting a husband, was not too lucky last year when her hatched plot to marry another Nigerian based in Europe was thwarted by her first husband, Dare Ogunlana, who unleashed a media attack on her. Meanwhile, Lola found a close ally in another actress, Bukky Wright, also married to a US-based Nigerian, Wale Onitilo. Lola and Bukky seem to be best friends in real life because their chemistry comes through effortlessly. Since her marriage to US-based lover and car dealer, Dare Ogunlana, broke up, the Kogi-born actress has met a few men but she has not been quite lucky to have one of them put a ring on it. Bukky, we reliably gathered has been concerned and busy setting Lola up on dates with non-famous friends and some buddies of her current hubby. She wanted Lola to have her kind of relationship that will guarantee American citizenship status. When Yakubu walked in, it was a willing and desperate Lola he met and, trust her, she quickly hung on tight. Sources disclosed that while he was cooling his feet in the Kuwaiti authorities' cell, Lola scampered for his release by consulting marabouts widely. They were constantly in touch on phone and gradually they built the affection. On release some months ago, after serving terms in Kuwait for one year, she sent him a ticket to come home, made few appearances at functions that were private and they bonded before he returned to the United States to prepare for the August wedding. While Lola has taken the highroad by walking down the aisle with Yakubu, brimming with broad smiles that she has found love and a good match, observers of Nollywood marriages and the rate at which it dissolves, feel Lola may have finally found a big catch to perfect her plans for an American citizenship status. Yakubu, E24-7 MAGAZINE'S checks revealed, has never been married but he has three kids, including a set of twins from two women among his strings of ladies. From his profile, though he claimed to be an ICT expert, he is not quite buoyant financially and his recent incarceration in Kuwait has not helped. There is no record of an apartment in his name; the newly married couple are guests in one of the hubby's relations' house in Atlanta. Prior to his ill-fated venture in Kuwait, he is said to have been living off his relations in California before life threw terrible storms at him and he moved to Houston. In his bid to survive, he crossed to Atlanta where he allegedly joined the credit scam racket popularly known as 'Track 1, Track 2'. For Lola, it has been a tortuous and lonely journey with her 10-year- old daughter, Omowunmi from her first marriage with Dare. As she stepped out from the depths of despair to happily ever after, it is not clear if Dare will not sue her for bigamy as their marriage consummated in Nigeria has not been officially dissolved. Lola and Yakubu are expected in Nigeria soon. |
A birthday party organised by a student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Niyi Adelana, ended up in tragedy as his girlfriend bathed him with hot water over a minor disagreement. The 19-year-old lady simply identified as Yetunde, a National Diploma 1 (NDI) student of Science Laboratory Technology, was said to have lost her temper when her boyfriend invited other ladies to the birthday party. The ugly incident occurred last weekend at Miracle Hall, BHS area in Iree where Yetunde and Adelana reside as off-campus students. It was gathered that Adelana, who celebrated his birthday last Saturday, invited some of his friends mostly ladies to his birthday party, a situation that did not go down well with Yetunde. However, when the party ended, Adelana decided to pacify his lover but met a resistance as she out of anger, reportedly poured hot water on him. The agonising scream from Adelana drew the attention of neighbours to the scene of the incident and he was quickly rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the town. The matter was later reported to the Police who promptly arrested Yetunde alongside her father for interrogation. Investigations conducted by The Guardian showed that Adelana received severe burns on his chest, neck and right hand. According to a source, the victim had shunned Yetunde during the birthday party while attending to other guests but later in the evening, he decided to visit her but the visit turned sour as his lover poured hot water on him out of anger. Sadly, when the news of Adelana’s ordeal broke, his ailing father was said to have slumped and died after hearing his son’s predicament. When contacted for reaction, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Tope Abiola said that the incident took place outside the school premises hence the management could not interfere. He said: “It’s very unfortunate and we sympathise with the victim and his parents. It is a criminal act, the school does not have power over it because the incident happened outside the campus.” If any lady is so insecure about her man then it is best for her mental help to dump him and remain single as she works on her self confidence. So sad. http://m.naijapals.com/forum.php |
