GenBuhari: I hate ObasanjoThen, go and hug transformer. You will never equal 1/4 of his success story in life. |
redsun: Another one for the taken by devious obj. Evil family. Are you in your sane mind? |
The best and youngest Eaglets ever. They made me feel like a true Nigerian. |
Merkki: Fallacy and myopic thinking! The fact that u can't sustain pure friendship with female folks doesn't mean others can't. My best friend when i was in school was male, he had a girlfriend too. We were close for 5 years with no strings attached. Discipline is key. U need to work on yourself bro.you appear absent minded in your comment. I put it to you and I stand by the position, that some thing is wrong somewhere for a girl to prefer males friends to female friends in its entirety. Am not saying its a crime or its wrong anyway, but there is always element of intimacy between some of the male friends and the girl, whether the girl is willing or not, especially when such friendship is based on no visible professional, religious and academic link. Go and do your research detached from your perspective or experience of the issue. I don't want to have the illusion that you might have been a victim of this. Comment wisely sis. |
Smartie gurl: Well, most gurls seems to be more comfortable around the male folks, while others feel so shy around the the male folks, but then again, as a gurl, is good to be spending more time with a gurl like you....because you two share a lot in common. You are right, but what could be the reason that gives some female folks comfort being with the male counter part, but abhors or find it irritating staying with a female like her? I feel, the only excuse is that such female in this category would have at one point or the other had intimate relationship, either willingly, accidentally or otherwise with half of the males she goes close to. So I don't think this should be encouraged at all. |
Please, I crave for your views to enable me understand what some girls mean when they tell a guy that they prefer to keep male friends instead of female friends. I have had the chance of having various female friends, majority of whom were just casual friends, but among these girls are some that you hardly see with female friends, except may be their class or church mates and nothing connect them more than issues about the duo. Just yesterday, I was discussing with a girl and another girl came into the meeting to exchange greetings with us and left immediately. When she left, the girl I was with just told me plainly that the girl is not her friend, but just looking for a way to get close to her and that she is not interested in the relationship, the reason being that she does not like female friendship, instead, that she is more comfortable with male friends. I have encountered this similar position from so many girls. While some adduced varying reasons ranging from 'the gossip' aspect of the female folk, some will say a girl to girl friendship breed 'jealousy', 'boy friend snatching', and so many other reasons. To my mind, I feel any girl that prefers keeping male friends to female friends will also be highly vulnerable to a lot of male intimacy, because experience has shown that majority of males find it practically difficult to sustain a casual relationship with a girl for a long period of time, without in one way or the other bringing the intimacy aspect it. I have personally experienced it, so I don't know what you may think of this. Is it right for a girl to keep so many male friends and abhors relationship with the female sex? Your views please. |

Not far from the truth. Some of the Nigerian students in foreign institutions in countries like Cyprus, Ghana, etc, went there not because these schools are better, but mainly for three reasons: 1. Majority of them could not withstand JAMB and even some don't have upto the required credit passes in O'levels. 2. Some went to these countries to school in order to fall into the 'aristocrat' category of Nigrians that had their university education outside Nigeria. This is because of the erroneous belief that certificates from foreign schools, even if it is Afaghanistan or Bangladesh, are better than those obtained from Nigeria schools. Thirdly, some of these students went to foreign schools, with an eye not neccesary on the certificate that they will obtain, but an eye to either 'work' their way to remain permanently in such countries or transit into Europe from there, for greener pasture. |
christlyke: Trash!!! Abuja eclipse, where are thou? |
Koikoi: Anybody with correct info should please give us the answer. ThanksUnconfirmed reports say it is expected to start at 3pm, but the time it will last, I don't really know. I think it does not normally last more than 30 minutes to 1hr. |
Well done Moderator for the review and editing.great job |
Because of the sensitivity of this issue, can the Moderator kindly put this on the front page? I believe all of us can duly be educated and informed of the eclipse, especially for those that have not experienced it before. |
Strictly for the information of Nairalanders and our families. Pls spread this news and let your loved ones and friends get informed about it: How are you Preparing for Sunday’s solar eclipse? According to an article on Space.com entitled: “How to Safely Observe Sunday’s Solar Eclipse”: “Here is a helpful reminder for new eclipse chasers: be safe. A fraction of a second of magnified, unfiltered sunlight will sear your eye’s retina irreparably. Imagine a horrible sunburn on your eyeball. Your eye cannot grow new layers and (peel off) the (burnt) ones like your skin tissue can, so staring directly at the sun is dangerous without the protection of safety equipment used by veteran sky watchers and astronomers.”- See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/preparing-sundays-solar-eclipse/#sthash.KTNc2t2V.dpuf . In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa. This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium. An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity said that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week. The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level. It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point and he will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike. A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements. Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan. According to report, the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail. It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Hope Uzodinma, on Wednesday said the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) purchased two armoured vehicles for Aviation minister, Stella Oduah and another two for its Managing Director, George Uriesi. Mr. Uzodinma spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of the investigation into the purchase of two armoured vehicles by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for Aviation Minister Oduah. He said that FAAN Managing Director, Mr. Uriesi, told the committee on oath that his agency purchased 202 operational cars and two bullet-proofs cars for the office of the managing director. “Uriesi did confirm that among the operational vehicles they purchased, four of them are armoured vehicles, two for the managing director and two for the minister. “We told them to go back and put everything in writing and make comprehensive statements on all vehicles purchased. “They bought a total number of 202 vehicles for different operations so until they come back on Monday we cannot rush into conclusion. “The managing director of FAAN said they did a funding arrangement with a commercial bank,’’ he said. Senator Uzodinma, who said investigations were still ongoing, promised that the committee was committed to undertaking a holistic probe to ensure that all anomalies were corrected to reposition the sector. He quoted the FAAN managing director as saying that the Ms Oduah gave approval for the purchase of the armoured vehicles. The Senate Committee on Aviation had on Oct. 29, queried FAAN over the purchase of four bullet-proof cars for use by the managing director Mr. Uriesi told the committee that the vehicles included two Lexus Limousine cars and two Prado jeeps. He said that contrary to insinuations, the limousines were purchased at the cost N60 million each and not N70 million. Mr. Uriesi, who said that he did not have details of the cost of the Prado jeeps, however, said the vehicles were still in the custody of the bankers which funded the purchase. The committee ordered the managing director to appear before it on Nov. 4, with comprehensive details of the transaction and the documents for all the purchases. This new revelation came to light while a shocked nation is still investigation the purchase of two armoured cars for the aviation minister by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. The cars were bought for a whooping N255million. (NAN) |
ABUJA – The Nigerian Police Force Wednesday, tear-gassed members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Abuja branch as they mobilise for their protest into the streets of the Federal Capital City, Abuja. Eyewitnesses said that the lecturers had gathered at the mini-campus of the university at Gwagwalada for the protest when suddenly policemen and plain clothes security personnel took over the entire arena and prevented them from the embarking on the protest. Speaking to journalists, the zonal Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Clement Chup said ASUU sent a letter to the Commissioner of Police at Gwagwalada to notify him of their protest but was surprised when they were prevented by Police from entering into campus. According to him, “We members of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU of University of Abuja had actually planned to carry out a peaceful demonstration today . What we planned was to have a community marching just to march through some major streets in Abuja, to sensitize the public on the essence of our strike. You will agree with me that the strike that has been on for the past four months now is a cause for worry for everybody. We wanted to tell members of the public we are on strike because the Federal Government have refused to implement the agreement they had with our members since 2009. “But unfortunately when we got to the campus this morning (Wednesday), we were prevented from entering the campus by Policemen. When they prevented us from entering the campus we sat down helplessly outside the gate, just chatting and trying to put heads together, the Policemen came around and tear gassed us several times to disperse us”. Chup continued, “We were wondering why, a security agent that are suppose to provide security for law abiding citizens would turn around and begin to oppress the same people they are suppose to provide security for. It was really a cause for worry, even as they threw over 13 canisters of tear gas at us. Some of us were soaked in the tear gas and one of us who has asthma condition was rushed to the hospital. “We insisted that it is our right so at the end of the day we were able to carry out our protest at a point in front of the university gate. When they tried to stop us and they didn’t succeed they now allowed us to carry out our protest at the gate., where we displayed our banners, sang our solidarity song and left”.

The House of Representatives committee on Aviation, this afternoon began hearing on the purchase of two armoured cars for the aviation minister, Stella Oduah, at the cost of N255 million. The hearing was earlier scheduled to hold on Tuesday but was postponed to allow the minister, who was away in Israel for a bilateral air service agreement signing, to return to the country. PREMIUM TIMES’ National Assembly correspondent, Ini Ekott, provided these updates as they unfold from the hearing room. 15: 07 Coscharis’ Maduka: To the best of my knowledge, we followed all due process. We were interviewed by SSS. We were interviewed by the National Security Adviser. Every due process by law was followed. “We do business with morality,” he says. Another Coscharis official: Armoured cars are in levels; Level B7 is the highest for any civilian/VIP armoured cars. More than that is for military tanks. Coscharis: The controversial cars are level B7. The BMW 760 series, bought by NCAA, goes for 418 thousand Euro from factory without shipping cost, taxes, etc. Coscharis offers to demonstrate a powerpoint to show how it arrived at the cost. But is disallowed by committee. 14.55 Coscharis’ Maduka: “People have spoken, different media have written, I kept quiet. Nobody has called me to ask anything. But I thank God for this opportunity to state my own side of the story.” “People have called me from US embassy to ask when did you start money laundering.” He says the whole controversy is “politically motivated”. He pleads to be allowed to speak. Mr Maduka said the matter is so important that his Uncle died and will be buried tomorrow, but he has to attend the sitting. He said he is prepared to give details how Coscharis arrived at the price. 14.46 First Bank asked to step aside. Coscharis takes over. Coscharis chief, Cosmas Maduka, calls the car scandal “very controversial matter that has made newspaper headlines for two consecutive weeks” as he takes the hot seat. 14.37 First Bank cannot explain how the loan given to NCAA for all its 54 cars climbed from earlier stated N564 million to N643 million. The bank claimed earlier that the difference was because the two armoured cars were not included-apparently untrue because of the cost. Under questioning by the committee, the bank now says only the NCAA can explain the difference; the bank says it was only concerned about what the NCAA as a customer asked for. “Our job as financier are based on what the customers are asking for” 14.29 Interaction with First Bank representative continues… First Bank: The armoured BMWs were not part of the first order from NCAA which comprised mainly Land Cruisers totaling less than N600 million. House chair, Nkiruka Onyejeocha: So could it be that the BMWs were an afterthought? First Bank: That’s for the NCAA to answer. 14.24 “Absence of the minister is a slap on the face of the House,” Jerry Manwe, a member of the committee from Taraba state said, apparently angered by the minister’s absence. 14.23 First Bank official, Seyi Oyefeso, that oversaw the transaction addressed the House committee on behalf of the Executive Director of the bank. First Bank was invited to make proposals alongside other banks and tender was opened publicly on 21 of May, 2013 in the presence of other banks and media First Bank was afterwards shortlisted alongside 7 others. First Bank granted a loan facility of N643 million for purchase of assorted cars. 14.19 The Customs representatives at the hearing said Coscharis lied to the Ministry of Finance and NSA, making them to believe that the cars were for Lagos state government, for the National Sports festival. The NSA office issued End User certificate without knowing that it was doing so for cars to be delivered to Stella Oduah or the NCAA. So, in a way, the NSA office is right to have told PREMIUM TIMES it did not issue end user certificate for any bullet proof cars for Minister Oduah and the NCAA. 14.11 Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, Manasa Daniel Jatau, said the following The two cars were imported through Tin Can Port 2; Imported from Antwerp Netherlands. The vehicles were cleared 19/6/2013. Coscharis imported the cars without paying import duties since there was a waiver from the ministry of finance. Coscharis obtained the waiver claiming the armoured cars were part of 300 vehicles imported for the Sports festival in Lagos last year, and therefore the beneficiary was Lagos state government. The due import duty should have been N10.1 million. The cars had an End User Certificate from the NSA office in the name of Coscharis. The waiver obtained by Coscharis was for one year; as such the time of importation this year was covered. Customs admit its laws requires that it enforces duty on any item for which waiver was obtained, which was not used for the purpose stated-in this case, for Sports festival. 13.53 Car dealers as well as end users of armoured cars are mandated to seek authorization from the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, before ordering or importing such vehicles into Nigeria. Last week, reliable sources at the office of the NSA told PREMIUM TIMES no authorization certificate was ever issued to either Minister Oduah or the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to procure the controversial vehicles. 13.50 Nigerian Customs confirmed that the two cars were imported and cleared at Tin Can 2. The Customs said the import duty on the two cars which should have been N10 million plus were not paid because there was a waiver note issued by the finance ministry. Customs also confirmed there was an End User certificate issued by the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA. 13.43 The hearing, proposed to start at noon, started 25 minutes late. The minister is absent at the hearing. The committee said it will take a position on that later. |
When they protested that the Nigeria Law School should have campuses in their domain, their prayers were granted; when they protested that a higher petroleum training institute should as well be established in their domain, instead of having it only in Effurun, Warri, their wish was granted, ditto the refinery, which has no business being in that part of the country. Now, when will atleast, a campus of the NDA and NMS be established in another part of the country? Haba mallam! |
gregg2: Stella remains the best minister of aviation in the last 20yrs.I weep for you guys, who are trying to trivialize this issue. That a Minister is hardworking and should therefore sqander tax payers' money on mere cars, whereas millions of Nigerians are out there suffering? I wonder what the cost of President's Jonathan's cars would be if a Minister can buy only two cars at over 200million Naira, especially when the money was not budgeted for. Bros wake up and face reality. |
It is a nice development, but the name should be changed to Aero Nigeria, at least to reflect the Nigerianness in it. |

tomzman: Source? The students appealed to the lecturers to call off the strike. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Friday barricaded the Asaba axis of the Niger Bridge for more than two hours. The action, which was jointly carried out by some university students and their polytechnic counterparts, was in protest against the protracted strike by ASUU. The aggrieved students blocked the bridge at about 1 p.m., which resulted to a traffic gridlock that stretched from the bridge to Okwe junction about five kilometres to Asaba Town. They also lamented the recent decisions of polytechnic lecturers under the auspices of ASUP to also embark on a similar strike, saying it would further cripple the education sector and send a wrong signal to the international community. NANS National Public Relations Officer, Victor Ola-Ogun, said that the students were tired of the strike and appealed to ASUU to call it off. He said that the students had embarked on the peaceful protest and taken it to Kano and “now they are in Zone B, that is Delta and the Anambra area of the country.’’ He said that if the lecturers refuse to call off the strike, the association would further move the protest to Zone C and D, comprising the middle Belt areas and South West of the country. “We do not want a situation where our ladies will become prostitutes and the men armed robbers. “We are always there to fight for the lecturers’ welfare and now that the Federal Government has decided to meet some of their demands, they should consider for our sake and go back to work,’’ Mr. Ola-Ogun said. The students, many of whom were drawn from different parts of the country are expected to leave Delta to their various destinations on Saturday. The ASUU strike has been on since July 1.
